Lots of reports saying that Rooney has withdrawn from Uniteds pre-season and will complete a deal by end of the week. Seen different types of deal but latest ones are pointing to a free. He was never going to rejoin us at the top of his game and I don't think he is an automatic starter, but no one can deny that he is bringing much more than on the pitch performances. Plus, I'm hugely looking forward too seeing the best player I have seen in blue pull on the colours again.

Not sure if this is a good thing or not, time will tell I guess. Other question is "what position will he play? "

i called this earlier on this was jose himself who blocked waynes return hoping we would pay 20 30 mill for him or they would sell him to china i guess but as many of you pointed out waynes not the type to uproot his whole family and. from when jose decided he no longer wanted him it was always going to happen. i hope he proves his critics wrong even if i can't see it myself, dare we dream of a whole new eleven i mean seriously walshy koeman and moshiri i have nowhere left to pinch please stop or move time forward so the season starts coyb.

In answer to what position will he play. I think the No 10 role. Now a days he is best coming from behind the ball.

some people need to take a step back with rooney, seen some awful comments on the web, from blues fans. reality is since the arrival of martial and then the emergence of lingard and rashford rooney has been played in a variety of positions, and been sub'd to make way for youngsters add to that the constant change in managers utd have been thru over past few years, and the manager they have now, who let's face it is the crown prince of buying players. well we've all seen they're results recently leaves utd in a position of needing / wanting to buy players 100mil plus, then they need to offload. i am sure that waynes age will not be a factor for at least a season or so cause he will have desire and heart to carry him thru and i am sure if he gets the wedge he wants from utd i am sure he would play for efc for free we all know he won't but he would i am sure if it was the only way to the neh say'rs your saying no to a player who despite his history loves everton he is a leader a winner and am sure will wisen a lot of our younger players quicker what is there not to like. whether on the pitch or on the training ground he will be a massive influence you just can't buy love like rooney has for us i would expect us to be a position higher in the table because of him altho not sure we will do much better than last season but hoping for more.

The guy is still quality, just lost his mojo at the man said. He will go all out for us in an effort to get back into the England squad for the World Cup. May only last one season, but what a season it could be.

Take your blue blinkers off. I'm an evertonian for nearing 40 years. Right here, right now, team for team what are people expecting?
I think we still need some time to now gel as a team. Where as I am over the moon at the full 4 days of the window so far (Never known anything like it before as a blue) I cannot see us winning the league (which I've heard if other blue sites).

I see us pushing the top 6 harder (maybe even overtaking one or two of arsenal) the gap below is I think will get even greater. We are DEFINiTELY going in the right direction.

Bit of pre season optimism is healthy for everyone an the buzz around us at the moment can only help us. Imagine the atmosphere first game of the season. Wow the old lady is going to be rocking that Saturday afternoon an i for one one cannot wait an I do believe with the structure we have started we are capable of anything we want wih hard work.

Everyone slating us and saying we have signed "average players" that no-one else wants. We have improved on every area of the team in the players we have brought in. We finished 7th last year so we had to strengthen the squad to advance on that position. I genuinely think other teams and fans are getting slightly nervous and jealous of the fact we are making improvements and with good young hungry players who have the same ambitions as our new owner and manager. We aren't title challengers but we should be looking at Europe and a cup win this season, and what's wrong with a bit of optimism instead of the same old Everton response of moaning! Rooney may be 31 but he is a massive improvement on Niasse, Kone and Valencia. We need quality players to increase competition and I reckon we are closing the gap on the Sky6. UP THE TOFFEES.

04 Jul 2017 23:11:04
Look ed I know you don't Rooney back and I'm not to sure I do myself but surely him coming back would give him a bit of life knowing if he doesn't succeed he will be down as a failure. He will be bursting inside to play the last couple of seasons at goodison. He would be a top class mentor to the younger players like Davies. like big dunc and Kevin Campbell was when Rooney was coming through. I just think the experience is vital as who knows where jags Baines Barry ECT will be come next season I believe he has still got it in him to give us a couple of season i'd be happy with 10-15 goals and a few assists a season with europe coming up aswell.

Agree1 Disagree2

{Ed025's Note - i can see both sides of it duncan, yes there will be positives but for me its a massive gamble if he sticks to his word of not taking a pay cut, i also think he is past his best and would rather see tom davies who is hungry and sharp in the side to be honest, but of course thats just my view mate and if he comes and does the business then great, i have ate a lot of humble pie in my time and would love to be proved wrong..

04 Jul 2017 23:34:04
Yes of course a BIG pay cut is needed. And i'd love to see Tom playing in the same side as Rooney to be honest. Rom is going and hopefully we could get 80m+Rooney. An also sign Giroud. Rooney sandro giroud ross/ gylfi klassenn bolasie DLC lookman Davies gana shniderlin besic. I like the sound of them apples ed. COYB! one last thing when is everton European draw?

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2017 00:13:02
I can see what you mean about Rooney being past his best but even though we are moving forward, if Rooney was still at his best we would still not be at a level to sign him the fact he is declining is what has given us the opportunity to get him which was the same with Barry. I believe he will bring an extra level of experience in those forward positions and it won't hurt our shirt sales either.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - im sure RK will take no notice of my views anyway AL, if it happens it happens mate and i will support him the same as anyone who dons the shirt, its fine to have different views on things mate..

04 Jul 2017 20:31:50
What do you reckon ed either giroud or Rooney can't see us going for both as they don't have any pace to play in the same team. Would rather see giroud and dembele Rooney lad wage would probably pay for there wages.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - giroud for me eddy or if not dembele..

04 Jul 2017 21:14:40
Me too ed Koeman liked pele at Southampton and giroud is the same type of playe he also gets goals but I can't see him moving out of London to be honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - that could be a problem eddy, but if he has any ambition he will come to a team who are going places mate and not the soft option of a west ham to stay in the capital or stay at arsenal as a bench warmer mate..

04 Jul 2017 21:42:57
Don't see it myself with Giroud. Wrong age for me, a bit too slow and a bit route one for me.

Giroud would be perfect for a couple of seasons and a boost to the squad and is proven in the Premiership, another young striker would be good as well.

Brendan Galloway and Tyias Browning are currently on their way to Wearside to undergo medicals ahead of season-long loan deals.

Sunderland are also close to agreeing a permanent deal for Aiden McGeady.

Ed any more incoming in defense for Everton seeing that Youngsters are being loaned out?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - it looks possible if we are loaning them out beastie but i have no names at this time mate..

04 Jul 2017 14:12:40
just seen this Sky sources: Sunderland are on the verge of a double-signing from Everton this afternoon. We understand defensive duo Brendan Galloway and Tyias Browning are currently on their way to Wearside to undergo medicals ahead of season-long loan deals.

In addition, Sunderland are close to agreeing a permanent deal for Everton winger Aiden McGeady, which would take the Everton arrivals to three.

However, the Republic of Ireland winger's move is less advanced than the other two, but Sunderland remain in advanced talks with Everton.

04 Jul 2017 17:18:44
yeh he would not be in my thoughts if i was buying players for fut either dunno why i have become his advocate either don't really have a view of this player never paid atten. to him in his 1st season at sunderland and the same last year if i'm honest. young footballers don't loose talent over night i personally think sunderland chairman gave ok to his move last year and whilst the deal was being finalised moyes came in and said no your staying. rightly or wrongly this affected the way he viewed moyes and sunderland and his game mentally but he is still capable of stepping up and maybe ronny is the man to help him. just a thought . don't care if we get him or not. i do remember tricky trev going thru something similar with us before joining rangers sometimes a team over relys on a player and that player gets tired of it all.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2017 19:57:50
Hey Floats, wait til we return the favour for Kone and you get Mcgeady, cannot believe we are getting a transfer fee for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2017 20:46:46
Did well for thir manager at PNE, so perhaps at a lower leval he can produce the goods, but think we should pass on Kone, an attitude problem, rather than a lack of ability,

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2017 11:23:51
As I sit here poolside by the beaches of South Carolina I cannot believe that this is my Everton. I believe that one more forward player who can score goal is all we need and we are much better than last year.

I watch some highlights of Dembele from Celtic play and it seems he tends to score only one of the defenders are falling backwards. He appears quick but that may just be the quality of the defenders and the Scottish league.

It appears we have a great group of young forwards ready in the next 1 to 2 years to play a big role in the Premier league. For me I would rather have Oliver Giroud as he is a known quantity and will make us instantly better with very little downside in the next 2 to 3 years.

And as I have seen some posts on other sites I don't care how much Everton spends and nor do I care what the resale value of a player is in 3 to 4 years.

In six weeks I think the top four should be more afraid of us then we will be of them. COYB.

Who's next then eds? Rooney? I can't see wjy he won't sign a two year deal worth 150k then go to USA or China and make the mega bucks. And we need to spend at least 40m for sigurdsson.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I can't see Rooney in China at all. And even in the MLS I don't think it would suit him. Obviously a return to Everton is something that could be viable - but potentially a mistake in my view. I appreciate it would be a fan pleaser but he is on a downward slope in his career now, and really Everton should be looking for the next Wayne Rooney or at least someone younger who can be counted in the plans going forward as the team is rebuilt.}

04 Jul 2017 10:00:42
ed i think andre gray or josh king would be better option to rooney, but can see why some want him, think the revenue for club could be good and also think the younger players of the squad would benefit from his experience and his advice, think we should go all out for sigurdsson aswell, anything on barley aswell ed seen him smiling in training yesterday.

Agree4 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - gylfi would be a great addition djr, swansea are desperate to keep him though so getting him wont be easy, i dont think ross knows what ross wants to be honest, maybe he was expecting all sorts of top clubs queuing up for his services when in truth there has not been much interest at all, unless someone comes in late with a panic buy i can see him staying and seeing out his contract mate, with the players we have now i dont see a future for him at everton to be honest and i think he has been poorly advised..

04 Jul 2017 10:25:07
Hard to disagree with the opinion that Rooney is on a downward slide. With so many young players coming in though, I believe he could be the player with the experience and the passion to drive the project forward.
Just imagine that winning goal in the 90th against that other lot.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jul 2017 10:34:00
I'm with you ed, for me spending a lot of cash on Rooney would not be my preference. I agree that he would be good mentor to the younger players but we already have Barry Jags Williams and Baines for that. If Rooney was cheap and didn't expect massive wages then maybe but wee need to stay within our FFP budget and signing Rooney may just hamper the signing of a younger player in his prime.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im with you mate..

04 Jul 2017 10:37:30
I want us to go all out for Dembele to be honest - he's the one that excites me. Him and Sandro could be amazing.

On a commercial and dressing room point of view Rooney is a good option of course he's not the dynamic goal machine he was but brings so much more.
I would love to see Dolberg sign he looks very classy and a worker

SA90 - Baines, Williams and Jags have a total of 1 trophy between them. That being when Swans won the League Cup.

Barry has won a couple, but for the youngsters to learn from Rooney is a different ball game altogether.

I am personally not bothered whether we get him or not, there are pros and cons to both outcomes. What I do like is the fact we are in a position to say whether we "want" him, rather than "need" him.

Still can't get over the fact we have signed 5 players before the first week of the window has passed.

If we can get Sig that would literally be the cherry on top for me, he was the number 1 player i wanted us to get before the window/ buying started.

Does anybody know of any decent strikers we can get in, that are within the realms of possibility and going to elevate us?

Agree2 Disagree0

04 Jul 2017 11:27:04
Agree 100% with Ed. Rooney is the past and as great as he has been, and he has, we should continue to build for the near future and beyond. Target players in the 22-26 age range who can make a difference over a number of years.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2017 11:28:59
I think a big signing will be coming soon too, also Chicquarito is available for 13 million, no brainer that, once Lukaku goes use the money for Dembele and Chicquarito.

Agree1 Disagree1

04 Jul 2017 11:28:37
I'm also of the mind that I wouldn't be too upset either way. If it was a choice between Sig or Rooney, I'd take Sig. But both would be good - we get to be greedy now boys!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - greed is good tadpole.. :)

04 Jul 2017 11:39:14
I agree with ed that rooney resigning would be a big mistake his best days are well and truly behind. I think like every everton fan I want to see us sign gylfi even if it took up 40 mil or more but that doesn't mean Swansea are going to sell unfortunately. If lukaku dose finally leave that would mean us needing to look for 2 strikers to replace him in my opinion I think the giroud would be great signing as he would have proven premier experience and as for the second striker I am not to sure about think gray and king might not be good enough to to push to champions league places but if koeman and Walsh think there good enough then that's fine by me.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - gylfi would be the player i want as well duke..

04 Jul 2017 13:00:27
Spot on JMW

Rooney would be an excellent addition because he is a winner. He won't get into our starting 11 but will add a lot off the pitch. I think a 1 year loan suits all parties.

The only player in our squad to have won more than 2 major trophies is Funes Mori (Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana, Argentine Championship) .

Beyond that we have 4 FA Cup winners (Joel, Jimmy Mac, Barry, Morgan) , 2 League Cup winners (Williams, Lennon) , 1 Premier League medal (Barry) and then a few trophies from Greece (Kev) , Belgium (Rom) and Holland (Stek)

Rooney has the around same number of winning medals from major trophies as the whole of our squad combined (5 Premier League, 1 FA Cup, 3 League Cup, 1 Champions League, 1 Europa League, 1 Club World Cup) .

As much as I want to break into top 6, we need to start winning trophies, and Rooney gives us a better chance of doing this.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jul 2017 13:02:06
Its like your Mrs walking out on you because the other fella is richer and more successful than you, then years later when he doesn't want her anymore you take her back because she is abit wiser and can help the kids!
Sentiment aside, Wayne is not what he was and that's why United want rid, we should be setting our sights on overtaking United so therefore not take there cast offs, that was what we needed to do in the past, Gibson, Neville, Cleverly, that was the Everton of then, the new look Everton of today wants bigger and better because remember, Nil Satis Nisi Optimum, Nothing but the best is good enough.

Agree1 Disagree1

04 Jul 2017 13:32:19
Rooney has got more trophys than all our squad put together eh? Well Geoff Hurst has a world cup winners medal but we don't want to sign him do we? Past achievements don't win upcoming games!

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2017 13:41:38
brian you're right, past achievements don't win upcoming games. But a winning mentality does. And instilling it in our young team what it means to win, and the sacrifices it takes will win us trophies in upcoming years.

Even if Rooney plays 5 games all season I think he's a worthwhile signing. A winning mentality is a major piece missing from our squad and even our new signings so far (even though they've all been quality! ) .

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2017 15:09:01
I always remember signing Phil Neville not the best player we have signed but he had a winning mentality that spread throughout the team that's what Rooney would bring and anyone saying he is passed it needs to take their heads for a wobble he needs a new challenge and moving to us could just give him a new lease of life.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jul 2017 15:11:09
I'm of the view we should sign him. I think that whenever he plays, he will put in a solid shift, and i think its safe to say he will score 10+ goals in a season which is something we need. Apart from Rom, no other player came close to double figures and that's something we really need to address.

I wholly understand the cons about signing him too, its a very split opinion for so many reasons. Maybe I'll say instead that i'm in the middle ground, if we sign him i believe he will be a benefit and I'll be a happy bunny. But if we don't sign him its not something I'll be overly fussed about, i won't look back mid season regretting we missed out. Does that make any sense?

198 Premier League goals and 101 Premier League assists.

The biggest club in the world (arguably) - top scorer of all time.

England national teams top scorer of all time.

Hahahahah I know everyone is entitled to an opinion, but Jesus Christ!

You are telling me that it was ok a matter of months ago to bring on the likes of Kone, DCL, Valencia, but you wouldn't want to bring the above on to pull something out of the bag.

How do you know he isn't dying to go someway to repaying us for leaving. Which don't get me wrong broke my heart, but he went to go an play under the greatest manager ever at one of the biggest club ever and win everything there is to win in football.

He achieved all that, and secured his families futures for generations. How can you knock him for that.

You telling me you wouldn't leave your job to go and earn 300k a week . yeah alright.
