Hi ed, some great insight lately, glad to have you back with ed001 and our ed. Now pre season has begun, I was just wondering if you could provide a brief update on ins and outs and the viability of them. And with the players we are interested in, are we still waiting for some more outgoings before we bring any in. Cheers mate.

{Ed002's Note - It goes something like this:
The first thing Everton need to do is decide what is happening with the loan players. Henry Onyekuru (LW) has told Anderlecht that he won't be back this coming season which means a loan elsewhere - I suspect they won't sell him
Ademola Lookman (F/LW) will look to guarantees of game time and if Everton don't commit he will look to leave with plenty of interest out there
Sandro Ramirez (S) - Sevilla interest is waning so a decision has to be made

In terms of interest:
Ben Gibson (CB) - Everton and Southampton will fight it out
Domagoj Vida (CB) – I am not aware of anything more than an enquiry and certainly no bid at this time.
Marvin Plattenhardt (LB) – liked but another EPL side talking to his agent and club
Kieran Tierney (LB) – liked but unlikely – expensive if for sale and would have better options
Luke Shaw (LB) could yet be a viable option this summer
Yves Bissouma (DM) - Lille's kiddie is very expensive as they are not looking to sell, but at the right price they will and Everton may take the risk
Jack Wilshere (CM) - I still think he will get an offer from Everton
Oguzhan Ozyakup (AM) - Arsenal were looking to take him back at a significant discount whilst Everton have spoken with his agent when Walsh and Allardyce were keen and interest may still remain. Marseille, Lazio, Newcastle, Milan and Valencia all have an interest. Besiktas agreed to let his contract run out at the end of June and that removes the need for any transfer fee to be paid on to Arsenal which would have been required if he were to have extended. As a free agent he will now sign a new contract with Besiktas with a low termination clause (as I recall €10M euro plus a fixed fee to his agents SEG, plus signing on fee to be negotiated). Now we are in July Besiktas will talk to clubs - with Newcastle perhaps looking hardest at this time.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek (M) – Everton has made no approach to Chelsea for RLC, although another EPL side have. Chelsea would be open to another loan but right now the player is starting to try and talk his way out of the club completely – and they won’t stand in his way – and the player now knows they would have let him leave last summer if another player did not opt to leave – so a slim possibility for Everton at best
Ante Rebic (LW/AM) has a price indicated by Frankfurt that has scared off a couple of sides and Dortmund have I think now stepped back – if Lookman stays he can be discounted – if not he would need a lot of persuading to move to Everton over other interested sides
Yacine Brahimi (AM/LW) – has been looked at but there is interest from elsewhere, plus there is baggage, plus he might see out next season to become a free agent – so unlikely
Hannes Wolf (S) - RBS would want a one or two year loan back but Everton have made an approach to his club
Hirving Lozano (F) The problem is always going to be taking on a coach or Technical Director from another side and then trying to cherry pick their players, so I would not hold out hope of Lozano joining Everton this summer

In terms of interest gone as they have been sold, not for sale, waned, left with SA etc.:
Andriy Lunin (GK) - interest is surprising
Chris Smalling (CB) was a player Sam Allardyce likes and as I have explained before, a player who might be a viable option
Jamaal Lascelles (CB) - unless Benitez moves on I doubt JL will be leaving Newcastle and interest left with SA
Ezri Konsa (CB) (the player thinks he can walk in to an EPL first team) has gone elsewhere
Frank Fabra (LB) the player wants a move to England and he was watched by two Everton scouts - a work permit will be tough to obtain unless Everton pay well over the odds for the player. Napoli have a growing interest but it is all on the back burner given his injury
Jonas Hector (LB) would likely not be interested in a move to Everton as he is likely to have a much better option
Ferland Mendy (LB) is liked by Allardyce but has been with Lyon only since last summer and he would not be interested in a move to Everton even if he were available - interest from elsewhere is also growing
Lucas Torreira (DM) is a player San Allardyce was very keen on but as time moves by his price will be going up considerably – likely heading elsewhere
Leander Dendoncker (DM) - SA has had him watched and discussions were held with Anderlecht when meeting over Henry Onyekuru's loan – but I expect him to move elsewhere
Andre-Franck Zambo Anguissa (DM/CM) – stupid offer rejected and Marseille are not interested in talking further with Everton about him
Yaya Toure (M) – common sense prevailed after a brief flirtation
Kwadwo Asamoah (M) – gone elsewhere

A player I am surprised Brands did not look to:
Marco van Ginkel (M) – Brands knows him well and PSV have to be creative financially to buy him, and there is interest from elsewhere, and he has injury issues that keep cropping up, but he would be a great buy

In terms of outgoing:
Luke Garbutt (LB) - gone
Wayne Rooney (F) - gone
Yannick Bolasie (LW) - loan perhaps
Ramiro Funes Mori (CB) - gone
Davy Klaassen (AM)
Ashley Williams (CB)
Conor Grant (CM) - gone
Kevin Mirallas (W/F)
Morgan Schneiderlin (M)
Henry Onyekuru (LW) - loan
Ademola Lookman (F) - maybe
Sandro Ramirez (S) - maybe
David Henen (LW) - gone
Joel Robles (GK) - gone
Omar Niasse (S) - maybe

Great info Ed002. It’s just a bit disappointing that there is nothing close. It’s a shorter window with the WC pinching it even shorter, although I understand the need to assess the squad first and then decide to move to improve.

But genuinely, thanks for the info that is clearly way more informative than the press. I don’t know what you do but you do it well and without blowing your own trumpet. Class Ed002.

The problems last year were that Everton spent too much money, bought too many players, bought the wrong players and bought players for the wrong positions.

Everton need to avoid this again.

One or two first team signings will be sufficient, along with a couple of younger prospects.

A quiet transfer window this summer is critically needed.
