Lescot being allowed to go fom City according to reports, respect ed who says cannot happen due to 'loan' system, so offer £1 signing on fee and pick him up quickly as cover in an area that might cause our season to erode unless we get it sorted quickly.

Believable8 Unbelievable14

I'm unsure about how much he'd really strengthen the squad at this point, but if RM decides to bring him in, then I'll support the returning player as much as I'd support anyone who has the privilege of playing for Everton.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would we want him back.Best days are behind him and we have Jags, Distin, Stones and the rock as cb options.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lescott would be a great signing. His best years are not behind him, he's younger than distin and would be our only centre back capable of scoring since. him.

Ings available for 6.5 mill and 3 prem clubs interested - honestly think he will do well for us and is a realistic target

Believable12 Unbelievable11

Have we had that much success in the past decade taking strikers from lower division clubs? I can't thing of any out-and-out strikers (so don't come up with goalscoring midfielder Tim Cahill) that we've taken and have lasted more than a season or two before being moved on for one reason or another.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jermaine Beckford- Free 10 goals
Was Boro in Champ when we bought Yakubu?

Agree1 Disagree1

Beckford lasted a season before being moved on - and he's moved clubs (all outside the Premier League) regularly since then.
Middlesbrough were in the Premier League when we signed Yakubu in 2007.
So, I stand by my point about not having much success with taking out-and-out strikers from lower-division clubs because the players in question haven't been long-term (or even comparatively medium-term) stayers.
Jelavic, after a superb start, has not carried on (for whatever reason) and Lukaku is on loan, so we still have yet to find a centre forward who'll do the business consistently for several seasons. I'm sure RM will make something happen with some astute player recruitment and/or developing our youngsters.

Agree0 Disagree0

So if we sign a striker from championship he will last a season then .must be true if its happened once before.id go for rhodes.he knows where the net is.think he is better than Ings.playing at a lower league don't mean you don't have the right to play in premier.remember andy cole.half a mill signing frombristol city. can't say he couldn't score goals.newcastle took the chance and he was dynamite

Lescot on loan deal anyone?

Believable7 Unbelievable21

{Ed002's Note - Can't happen.}

Hes the only back up city have, can't see it unless they sign another cb

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Monaco or Spurs will get him on loan.}

Plus I have just noticed it can't happen due to the loan system? only wave we could have lescott back is with a full time purchase

Agree0 Disagree0

RM has said that we're not looking at Barry's situation until the end of the season and we're surely not signing Lukaku permanently, so can't see how we'd free up one of our domestic loan spots for Lescott - or any other domestic player come to that.
As the Echo reported, however, foreign loans are pretty much limitless - subject to squad rules about homegrown numbers over the age of 21 - so foreign loans are much more likely surely? That's if we don't make some permanent incoming transfers.
As for targets, the Eds have already posted comprehensively about that and they're probably better informed than us.

Newcastle apparently eyeing Jagielka in the transfer window. Surely can't be truce, but it's been mentioned on . Anyone heard anything about this?

2.he is our best defender
3.he is too good to lose
4.he wouldn't go to them
5.it is a step down
6.if they are after him its like norwich being after mata it just doesn't make sense
7.read all the above
he is not going to newcastle and the way that has entered someones mind is laughable and well, stupid

Are you sure you haven't just made that up in your head, because I'm sure you have bro

Agree0 Disagree0

Rather surprisingly I agree with everything Mike has said, although the OP clearly states 'it can't be true'? Not going to happen this one unless they offer a ridiculous and ridiculous wages.
DB Cooper

Agree0 Disagree0

Think you have got the centre backs mixed up . More likely to be Johnny Heitinga

Agree2 Disagree0

Like RM - always taking a positive attitude to things - I reckon we should be appreciative that our players are doing so well as to attract envious eyes from other clubs, but we should also be even more appreciative that RM will make football-based and not finance-forced decisions about which players will leave. Other clubs scouting our players - even making bids - will inevitably happen, but that doesn't mean a player is definitely moving or even open to moving.
It's not easy, but I respectfully suggest that we should try to be more chilled out about the ill-informed speculation of lazy journos about bids for our players - and we should enjoy the banter with other fans who are deliberately winding us up about our players, etc.
At the end of the January transfer window is when we can see who has been telling the truth.

Silly season again ed!

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't shoot the messenger! I haven't been drinking from bottles under the sink. It' s on newsnow on a Geordie big site. I personally think it's a load of Michael Ballacks.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry, should read Geordie 'blog site'. Stupid predictive text. Happened on my original post too. Although blag site would be more appropriate.

Agree0 Disagree0

That was only a betting site making newcastle favourites to sign him, theres' no stem in it!

Agree1 Disagree0

Mike ox long its not really a step down is it and I wouldn't compare newcastle to norwich nor jagielka to mata.

if he joined newcastle he would probably drop out of the england set up for centre backs who play at the 'bigger clubs' and here he is loved and is our best defender, if he went to newcastle things would be different and we are top 4-5 contenders, newcastle have a good team don't get me wrong, but you are not there yet

They are, but Is he good enough? I have no problem with him, and wish him all the best, but we're forgetting just how shocking he was last season.

Agree1 Disagree1

To AB: and are you forgetting how good he was the season before? Last time I checked, he was still the player of the season that season.

Agree2 Disagree1

Never got the impression that he ever really felt right about being at Everton - always seemed that he was here just for the money. And as for claiming he was the best centre back at the club!

keith whilst he did get player of the season he probably wouldn't of if distin hadnt made that mistake, he scored I belive 2 own goals, conceded a penalty and was at fault for quite a few, for me fans saw how solid our defence was and thought well we can't give it to distin because of the mistake so let's give it to 'the other one'

Mike-Ox Long

Agree0 Disagree0

Keith; I remember just how good he was the season before, yes. He was my pick for player of the season, too, but last season he wasn't just poor, he was disgraceful. He looked like a goalkeeper someone had put in defence. The ease at which people went past him was embarrassing and painful to watch. I would have rather we played with 10 men than had him in defence, because someone else would cover his position. Jelavic was good in his first season, awful the next. He shouldn't get anymore chances based simply on the season before last because he has been dreadful when he's played. It is naive to think that past form should influence current selection.

Deal cancelled: John Heitinga

Heitinga says he did not get the right feeling about moving to West Ham, but has interest from other clubs.

Believable17 Unbelievable2

Maybe he didn't fancy the prospect of being found wanting in a team fighting relegation ;-)

Johnny deal to West Ham is off according to his own comments reported this morning.

Believable8 Unbelievable5

What's more important for him: playing regular first-team football so that he's selected for the Dutch World Cup squad OR coining it to the tune of £65K a week until his contract expires? West Ham might not have been a long-term career move, but a short-term contract for the rest of the season would surely be worth it - unless a "more glamorous" or foreign club comes in for him. Can anyone guess as to his thinking?
