Easy to make comments after the manager has not worked out the best we could of got this season was 7th and a good cup run, ok out of cup but 7th is still achievable but for me it's important next 15 games of season as will set tone for summer and new season we can't keep sacking managers.

Good sensible post mate, too many knee jerk reactions on here, by the way some write I don't think they would be happy with any manager, he has to have time and I am sure the Club will give him it.

A manager has to show he can coach a side and improve players at his disposal. Also he has to motivate and irrespective of results these things can be seen by most supporters.
Sadly none of these things are showing under the present manager and they should be visible within a few short months. Yes time to win trophies and challenge at the top but not long for there to be signs of improvement.
Look to Man U, total change in the team right away.
So Guernsey cannot exept what your saying in anyway.

Bad managers who do okay elsewhere. Maybe we are the problem? Might be me but something gone wrong with heart and sole of playing side of club. Watched prog on Sunderland other day and some scary similarities.

Asked who I would have as manager, not easy I admit but quite fancy Arteta, he knows the club and did want the job in the summer.
I exept that a good coach which he must be to be right hand to Pep at City does not allways make a good manager but no manager comes without risk anyway.
He lives in the area and knows what Evertonians want, he must be a good shout.
I like the look of Lampard at Derby but it is early days in his management career.

SSN reporting PSG bid 21.5m for Gueye player keen to go personally I don't blame him!

27 Jan 2019 21:13:22
If the offer was right I would sell if the player wants to go. Seems to low an offer though. Maybe with his age and give us a chance to bring a new midfielder in. A new face may give everyone a lift. I like Gueye and he maybe a player you can get a few years out of like Fernandinho at 34. He’s not a leader though and maybe his replacement might and the balance in midfield could improve. Someone like Doucoure would be advantageous at defending set pieces.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Jan 2019 23:05:35
He’s 29 so £21m is a rubbish offer on market value he is in his prime now.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Jan 2019 23:30:59
Would you bring in a new midfielder now if Gueye went?
Goals is an area to be addressed so I’d move on a striker as we do have Jimmy Mc, Davies and Beni who could step up.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jan 2019 08:06:17
I can see the logic Southern the problem I can see what striker? Nobody stands out and as we all know January’s not the best time. We don’t want to go out and buy a £20m striker and be same as Tosun. We need top striker and need to pay £60/ 70m. That type of player won’t be available until the summer then we need to convince them we are going somewhere! Easier said than done at the moment.

Couldn't agree more STB, something I've said before. Posters on here have been crying out for the '20 goals a season man' for a long time. As if such a thing is common everywhere.

Personally I still think our biggest issue is not enough goals/ support from elsewhere.

Bernard, Walcott and to a lesser extent Gomes/ Lookman need to be creating more problems for defenses. With the exception of Richarlison we play like our only plan is to get the ball in the box to a striker. This means defenders can focus on stifling whoever that is, and until the support players get more involved and pose some questions that won't change, no matter who is up front.

Whether that is down to the players or Silva is the question!

Was last night a shock to anyone? We just cannot keep a clean sheet - even against Lincoln we couldn't keep the door shut. No fight or leadership in the team and we're too nice. Almost 60 mill on Keane n Mina and we are a farce. Silva needs more time but he needs a tiger in the team and the rest need take heed. Feels like Martinez.

3 shots on target against a poor championship side when you have the likes of Richarlison, Siggy, DCL, lookman, Walcott, Tosun is so poor why are we shot shy?

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Jan 2019 23:07:54
No big money moves for anyone they only have to look at the other players that didn’t perform, can’t shift any of them.

Not a single leader on the park, the team is gutless, fancy dans from Barcelona reserves etc. We need leaders like Neville or Cahill or a Fergerson players who give 110% ans inspire others. The reds have a lot of fancy footballers but Milner and Henderson are leaders for them on and off the field, who do we have?
Does Brands understand this about our game I think not.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Jan 2019 10:03:47
I am as frustrated as any supporter after last nights performance and result. The confidence has been sucked out of the team since the derby defeat. I would like to think we would of got over it by now, surely as professionals this can’t be the case.
A lot of posts criticising zonal marking and people just saying the negatives about that way of defending.

Yes, you have players standing defending a zone but you also have other players who are meant to be blockers preventing the opposition from getting space to have a run. We can all have our opinions on this and top coaches have their own beliefs. The fact is whichever way you play it’s the players who need to take responsibility and Silva has said this.

They can train all week on it and players go out on match day and don’t do it who should the finger be pointed at? If we defending man to man and a corner comes in and our player gets blocked out in a crowd or ball watching etc we don’t have anyone questioning it saying that doesn’t work.

Pre derby game and during that game we didn’t have this problem. (maybe at first until the players understood it and Mina with his height was a help) again Silva says about maturity, I think Digne is a quality player but he gave away a cheap free kick when the player wasn’t going anywhere.

Also a few people saying get Rafa in to replace Silva? Rafa defends zonally too. I am not knocking him as he is a top manager and surprised he has stuck with Newcastle.
I am a Moyes fan and I am sure if he came in we would be more solid defensively but could he take us into the top four? Could he go to Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Utd and play in a attacking way as we did this season?

I think we have been unlucky in all those games to come away with only Chelsea point. In those games is when we missed a top striker. I say let’s get behind the manager and players because their confidence is very low and we need to pull together to get out of this. Hopefully this is a kick up the arse the players need to stop feeling sorry for themselves.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

27 Jan 2019 10:43:50
Yes, the main problem is defence. Attack could be better and when we were playing well it seemed the difference between us and top 6 was a quality striker, otherwise we were going toe to toe with them. But since the Derby we've been unable to defend (set pieces especially. )

All systems have pros and cons and other managers use zonal marking. Yesterday the players just didn't do it properly, mainly not attacking the first ball and not following runners (most zonal systems have someone doing this) so not winning second balls either. Assuming he's telling them this you have to look at the players.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Jan 2019 11:19:45
We haven't got to grips with zonal marking all season not just last night it's clear that the players we have just aren't comfortable in a zonal defence system. I think we should start to ring some changes for the next game at Huddersfield first would be a change of formation to either a 433 or 4411 me personally would go 4411 with jags if fit coming in to partner zouma the full backs remain the same but I would change centre mid I would put McCarthy in midfield as this would give us a bit more tenacity in midfield and partner him with gomes with richarlison on left Walcott in the right and Bernard in number 10 role with tosun upfront.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i want you as our next manager david..

27 Jan 2019 12:29:54
Problem is season after season we are asked to get behind the team and with the poor signings we seem to make, year on year, sooner or later you become negative posters!

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Jan 2019 12:43:13
I don’t think the signings brands/ silva have made are bad. They have a job on their hands still as at least 9 players are surplus at the end of the season.
It will take time to clear them out and bring in players they both want.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Jan 2019 14:35:51
Singing the Blues - can you please stop with the sensible, rational posts! Absolutely pointless sacking Silva. As has been said up to the Derby we looked ok. We were the better team at Anfield. We should easily have had more at Chelsea and Arsenal.
Since the Derby the total lack of guts and leadership amongst the players has shone through.

Millwall were pulling shirts off us in the box. We can’t even block their runs. That is NOT the manager, that is the players. Oviedo apart when did we last go to a top 6 club and win? That Silva fault? NO. There is a whole culture of accepting mediocrity within the club. A whole culture of giving in when it gets tough. That cannot be changed in 6 months.

Brands and Silva have half a squad who they clearly do not rate ( and neither in the main do we) but they are stuck with them until either someone takes them or contracts end. We cannot keep changing managers.

Get rid of the deadwood in the squad - if I’m honest there is about 6 I’d keep. Get rid of the entire coaching staff from the old boys network. They all have this ‘losers’ culture. Bring in some winners both on and off the pitch.

But for Tuesday?
Pray.

DaveW not sure if that was criticism or praise? Lol I’ve never been called sensible or rational in my life 🤣
Frustration brings mixed emotions, look at Gomes a few weeks ago he was fond of the season controlling midfield and everyone wanted us to sign him straight away for £xxm. Now he’s a Barcelona reserve who’s too slow and can’t header a ball.
Come on guys let’s be rational and sensible about this.

Ed025 and I would love the mangers pay check I think we need to give brands and Silva time and few transfer windows to sort out the mess of previous regimes. But please Marco ditch the zonal marking until we have the players able to implement this system properly.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i would love that david, but just like maggie the witch...i dont think hes for turning mate..

27 Jan 2019 18:06:42
I called this weeks ago when people were saying Jags is finished, get Jags in that defence and the fire of McCarthy in midfield and watch results improve.

Two other things I would sort out is scrap the zonal marking, we tried it but just not working.

The other thing I would do is bring Neville Southall in short term, and get him to coach Pickford and how to command his area and make the crosses his, he is still young and can think of no better person to tweak his weaknesses.

27 Jan 2019 17:57:29
we don't have a defender that can turn they are all rubbish.

27 Jan 2019 10:00:33
In all seriousness now, what is the answer?
Sack Silva or reassess at the end of the season? We can't continue to sack managers, that is part of the reason we are in the mess we are in. Getting a new manager in with different tactics, style will put us even further back.
I was very pro Silva up to a couple of weeks ago, but now I am asking the same questions we all are:

1. Why continue with a formation (4231) that clearly doesn't suit us. Try 433, we have the players to do it - imagine Richarlison, Lookman and Bernard interchanging and tearing at you with pace.

2. Do we ever work on defending in training? I swear my 12 year old son could've organised that back line better.

3. I love Sigurdsson, but dear me he has been ineffective for weeks - either play him deeper in the midfield 3 or give someone else a go.

4. Why are we so lethargic on the ball (back, sideways, back and repeat). Play the ball first time and fast, use the pace we have at our disposal and get the fans off their seat for the 1st time in years. I'm not talking long ball tactics but Gomes is more than capable of playing a ball into the channel.

5. Where is our leader? We don't have one player who gets in the face of the referee and argues. We are too soft and always take the decisions. Why was nobody reminding the ref of the constant pulling in the box.

Sorry for the rant but I have just this week renewed my season ticket for next year and part of me already is not wanting to go. Will they give me a refund?
What do we do - stick or twist Mr Moshri?

Believable4 Unbelievable0

27 Jan 2019 10:45:09
1, I have said for weeks to do this, its clear we don’t have the quality centre forward we need to play 4-2-3-1. So play to your strengths and Richarlison, Lookman and Bernard interchanging would be frightening for defences.

2, Silva has been honest and said this and the players need to stand up and take responsibility.

3&4, with a change of formation I think Sigurdson would be fine in a 3 man midfield. Confidence is the key for both him and the rest when it comes to slick fast passing.

5, I agree there’s no proper leader in the team. No jags or Neville. Seamus and even Baines are great pros but don’t have that leadership quality. I maybe wrong as you don’t see and hear everything.

Stick.

Agree4 Disagree0

27 Jan 2019 11:33:14
Youth could be the answer. One player I like who gives out instructions and organises players is Feeney. I wouldn't be scared playing him at centre half. I think playing 4123 would be good or just standard 433. Another youth I think has enough to start is Joe Williams. Can pick a pass and has energy. Also Benni needs bringing back in.

If ever it was proved zonal marking doesn't work with the players we have it was tonight. Something has to go the zonal marking or the players to get the ones who are comfortable with it. For me the it's the zonal that has to go.

Get rid of silva that’s the answer we have talented players but in my eyes looks like we doing a Man U players not wanting to play for the manager think our players got a no confidence attitude to silva net the end of the window no players coming in can’t see silva getting any money next few weeks depending on results can’t see silva being manager any more sorry I know we should and give him time but would u keep him and risk being dragged into a relegation scrap Man U sorted them selves out couldn’t win no confidence now new manager can’t lose sos not save our souls save our season silva out just my opinion who agrees.

They stopped playing for Koeman. And Unsworth. The issue is with the players and the ‘old boy network’ of coaching staff.
We can’t keep changing managers because the players don’t want him.

They showed last night what a gutless, leaderless bunch of average players they are.

Get rid of Ferguson, Jeffers, etc - what have they ever won? What leadership qualities do they have?
Get rid of Pickford, Keane, Gylfi, Gueye, Etc etc.

We can’t keep blaming managers and the players getting away Scot free.

Summer hols can't come quick enough. This is turning into a disaster. Season is over for me. Would you give silva anymore millions if it was your money?
Trouble is, we are still paying Sam and Ronald and would be paying 4 managers if we sack Silva.

it's embarrassing and no real solution - giving people time is fine if showing signs of improvement but we look awful / no balance at all. I have no idea how to solve this - surely can't go back to drawing board again.
