Can't see Everton paying out that much money on another striker. Got a feeling that Hernandez will go to spurs and west ham will grab Austin

(Not a rumour just a rant)

Surely I can't be the only one that thinks we need to play with two wingers? I go to every home game and think why the hell are we playing two holding midfield players! That Watford game was identical to our performances last season. boring! We should be playing to the strengths of the players we have there now, i.e play Barkley deeper with McCarthy and sack off Barry so he has the whole game ahead of him and can take on players, with Lukaku play the ball in front of him from either wing because he can't hold up a ball and his first touch is dreadful.
Does anyone else think the same? Also Ed's any transfer news? It's the same old Evans and Januzai link, we've just supposedly lost a transfer battle with Stoke so surely we must have an exciting player with some spark lined up? We need a number 10 similar to, I hate to say it but, Coutinho, Please Martinez!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - we wish mate..

12 Aug 2015 00:48:29
I agree mate, 2 wingers are the best way to play, not only will it give us more pace on the left side but it allows more players to get into the box. For example, Lukaku often comes out to the left wing due to there being no one there as Barkley or Naismith or whoever that was supposed to be on the left wing has decided to go through the middle. With a natural wide player, Lukaku will not have to do this. And I agree on the number 10 issue as well. I know it's not fact by any means but the best playmakers seem to be the small and agile players that can see a pass. Barkley is not like this, Coutinho and Silva for example are very good in this position for these reasons. The left side needs sorting out as does the position behind the striker or imo, what should be behind our 2 strikers.

I'd get in a real centre half too, who can out jump most players and clear any crosses and who can lead the defence, we lack a leader who can bark at people and tell them what to do, steady Eddie (Jagielka) doesn't cut it for me as captain, I'd tell McCarthy to grow a pair of gonads, take the armband and drive us forward, he could be our number 8 but he's too quiet, wishful thinking though I guess!

I also feel as if Stones is going to leave but for £30m what do we expect?!

11 Aug 2015 15:47:48
I've just read that we are interested in another defensive midfielder, Sergi Darder from Malaga. Surely not, who writes this stuff? But then again would you all be shocked if we were?

Believable1 Unbelievable3

11 Aug 2015 16:34:21
Sadly agree. It's the one position we really don't need to add more bodies too, but right now we should just continue to expect Martinez to do the complete opposite of what any sensible of competent manager would do.

11 Aug 2015 17:40:45
I'm sure that we're interested in lots of players in all positions - even those positions that we're already well covered in at present. Being interested doesn't necessarily mean actively negotiating a transfer - it means that we're looking at players as part of our scouting and recruitment activities. Part of those activities means that our scouts are seen attending matches or have conversations with agents, club representatives, other scouts, etc., and stories subsequently appear in the media. Just because a story is repeated and embellished by every media outlet doesn't mean it's cost to actually coming to fruition - although there is almost always a kernel of truth in it no matter how weak and inconclusive. I'm sure that our scouts know about and have scouted the next Messi or Ronaldo, but the likelihood that he'd come here (rather than a high-paying Champions League club) is very remote. I'm just thankful that we do manage to bring through an occasional gem at our academy - who delivers for us and/or brings in a massive transfer fee. So, on that last note and to recap my starting point: if Stones (or anyone) leaves, it'd have to be for a massive fee and I'm sure we'd have a list of replacements already scouted and evaluated.

I believe in Evans last minute on loan and sign him for free when contract expires like what happened to Cleverley, Lennon or Januzai still negotiating, Charlie Austin and a surprise no10.

I think we will all be pleased with this and not selling anyone.

Believable2 Unbelievable4

11 Aug 2015 16:54:10
If we brought in 5 players we would have to sell 2 because we only have 3 empty registration spaces?

Slight glimmer of hope in the darkness, Stones has moved from 4/6 odds on, to 5/4 against, a move to chelsea, just hope it's an indication of the way things are shaping.

All of a sudden its everywhere that we are set to bring back lennon and some garbage players from United. Any truth in any of these ed? Cheers.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - them two are very strong rumours matt and at this stage look very likely..

11 Aug 2015 19:38:55
Martinez being given tactical lessons by squeaky voice last night was unbelievable and just goes to show what a non-entity Martinez is in the football world. Our ambition now appears to be premiership survival and ergo a salute to the Martinez tactical genius.

Evans AND Hernandez - signing those smacks of desperation, especially at the prices being touted. If they do happen, then I just hope they prove doubters like me wrong, but I just don't see them being like McCarthy (and, on first impressions, Cleverley) and showing that they are worthwhile additions.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Aug 2015 12:00:11
I hope we do get Hernandez he is very good striker as for evans I wouldn't swap him for a mars bar never mind 5 or 6 mil but it does look like we are after him if his dose sign I would support him because I am evertonian and I want what's best for my club and slaughtering him constantly isn't going to help anybody. If they do sign it certainly doesn't mean stone's would be part of any deal it would mean he has 2 of the 3 players Bobby was after a striker and centre back. Which would leave only a number 10 to get

11 Aug 2015 13:33:36

I just don't get the views of some fans. We have to be the most negative bunch in Europe! When you look at our current squad, we have three, first-class England internationals and Seamus, in our back four (with Garbut and Galloway in reserve). In midfield we have McCarthy, Barkley, Cleverly, Deulofeu and Mirallas, then upfront - Lukaku. This includes five of the best young players in Europe (Stones, McCarthy, Barkley, Deulofeu and Lukaku) and a spine that should see us competing at the top end of the Premier league for the foreseeable future.

Yup. I get the need for investment and it kills me to watch as we lose out on some top talent, but. Shaqiri is a luxury we can't currently afford - and in all honesty; one we don't need. In fact, this applies to most of the transfer rumours we've been linked to this summer. But, as it stands, Everton represent a risk for any player looking for regular (starting 11) first team action. Van Dijk would not (immediately) dislodge our centre-back pairing, if Stones stays - so where's the incentive (this was the same for Ogbonna)??

Who are we going to attract that's 'better' than Mirallas, Deulofeu, Barkley and Lukaku for the number 10 and striking positions? I appreciate that Barkley is more effective playing deeper, and Mirallas appears more comfortable out wide, but both are still adequate options where the no. 10 role is concerned.

We absolutely need a centre forward, to provide some solid competition for Rom. But, whoever comes in will play second fiddle to our current, 28m striker! If you were Charlie Austin, would you risk it? If you have aspirations of playing for your country, you know you need to be playing week-in-week-out!

With the exception of Barry, our starting eleven, when fit, has crazy potential! But as long as the fans continue to boo, we will struggle to perform! Our own fans single handedly killed Barkleys season last year! We need to start getting behind them ASAP. An explosive, attack-minded gameplan is tough to execute if the players are unwilling to take the required risks, through fear of being booed or jeered.

It doesn't matter how much money you make or how much talent you have. fear affects performance, which affects morale, which affects results. Give Martinez a break, support your team and we can start enjoying our football again!

Well said lar. but you can understand why the fans are upset,,they pay a lot of money to follow the blues ,,the board have a lot to do with with all this negativity and if they feel a player (very rich player) isn't puttin his shift in,it's easy to see why the the crowd can turn. I am a armchair supporter and I'm stressed with all this bull. imagine how all the loyal fans who go the game feel (God bless them)

Eswyng, it is not the talent at our disposal that we moan about but the way that talent is misused by an incompetent coach. Roberto takes the proverbial square peg into round hole approach and refuses to accept any other solution, he is the definition of bigot. I watched him squirm last night while being given tactical lessons from Squeaky voice FFS.
