How can Cardiff cough up big money for players and we can't? I get the impression Fellaini or Baines will be sold if we're going to buy.
Tom

We already have players of standard or better then they're buying, ofc Cardiff need large investment if they hope to stay up, championship to premiership is big jump, but how many teams have spent beyond their means and paid later if it goes t**s up.

They have billionaire owners from Malysia

A players price tag guarantees nothing.

Norwich don't have billionaire owners and they have spent in the region of £20-£25m. We have spent £5m on a journey man and 600k on a reserve GK. I too believe we need to sell to buy.

Norwich are a debt free club now, one of few in the prem so all there profits like tv payments shirts sales etc it can all be pumped back into the club, trust me in a few years Norwich will be a force, tom

Easy one that Tom. Other clubs have oney and Everton dont. Thought that would havebecome clear over the last 5 years or so.

Whether this is BS or not i'm not sure but I've been told by a friend that Baines is going to Manchester United for 13 million and the sale is likely to happen from Monday. I personally hope this is not true and believe that Baines is worth far more. Thoughts people.
Believable2

£13m wouldn't even buy his right foot. Nonsense.

I agree with 2nd poster whole heartedily

If Bill sold Baines for 13 million I think a lot of fans would return their season tickets. He's stupid, but not that stupid.
Agree3
Disagree0
I was told everton will sell but only when he puts in a transfer request. Kenwright has a god relationship with the mancs board and I don't expect a huge transfer fee.
Sinno24
Agree0

Baines will only go if he hands in a transfer request. If he does he will go for around-18-20 million. Personally I would slap a 25m price tag on him if he wanted out.
Agree0

Baines is not leaving. Bill
Agree0

13 million of the world best left back, hardly, Lescot, an average left sided defender was £20 m+, who says the Bainsey wants to go Man Utd. any way, true blue, he'll only go if we wants to.

Darren Bent would be a waste of money even if he is cheap. He used to be a good finisher, but I am not so sure now. He is very lazy and does not add anything defensively. In today's modern game all 10 outfield players have to contribute in closing down the opposition. His lack of defensive contribution would have to be outweighed by goals he scored. I don't think he can score that many.
Degsypulford {Ed025's Note - im with you degsy..

He'd score 15 minimum IMO

Completely agree mate, we should go for a younger more volatile striker
Agree0

Would have been better than kone.
Agree0

I agree, and his wage demands are disgraceful. He can finish, but is far past his best.
Agree0
Disagree0
Seriously have you seen him score in the last season? Or even have decent attempts at goal? He is off the pace of the game now. All of our current strikers are better than him. We don't need him. Would be a waste. Better spending it on a young up and coming footballer.

Any truth in these Darren Bent rumours, reckon he's worth a shot - a proven goal scorer in the league, something we need unless the jelly man starts finding the net again. Anybody know how much Villa want for him?

Well I reckon if BK keeps the sport but does without the movies he might get good a deal.

It's a minimum of £60m per year. An increase of £25m to £35m depending on where you finish - so we should have a transfer kitty of a minimum of £25m

I am beginning to wonder whether we have got to sell to buy. It's a week before the season starts an its all looking a little slow on the market front and bringing in players. I feel if we keep baines & Fellaini we won't bring anymore in.
Believable5
Unbelievable3
Yeah because all of the top teams have been buying players left right and centre. Agents have ruined football transfers they all take forever and are so complexed now its a joke. Wanting a player and him wanting to come and then having the funds is about 5% of the battle
Svenny
Agree0
Disagree0
Svenny what happened to the 2 marquee signings you 'promised' we were getting? Don't tell me Kone is one of these?
Agree0
Disagree0
We have brought 4 players in already and have not sold anyone! Get a grip!
Agree0
Disagree1
The 4 players brought in are nothing special though
Agree1
Disagree0
When is the last time we brought in 4 and not sold point proven would you rather we spend the 5/6 million we have now on a average player or hold fire and see if anyone comes in for fellaini or baines then get a top player me personally I will be quite happy to stick with what we got and try and add someone nearer deadline day
Agree0
Disagree0
1 kid on loan, Alvarez injured & prob will be most the season, keeper that's going to sit on the bench although we do need reserve keepers & kone who I'm not convinced with! So your saying your confident in the squad then if we lose baines & or Fellaini because I'm certainly not!
Agree1
Disagree0
The point I was trying to make was we have brought in 4 players without needing to sell anyone! Yes they are not world class players, but they are squad players which we need!
We are looking good this preseason, imo. And have a healthier looking squad than at this point last season.
The initial question didn't mention Baines or Felli leaving, and yes I would be gutted if they did leave!
Agree0
Disagree1
If you see people go mean they want it mate. Heard we have budget 17m. region. If Bobby can keep it no point selling to buy.

Hope we go for bent, can score a hat full of goal and martinez type of player.
Believable6
Unbelievable9
In what way is he a 'Martinez type of player'? Martinez favours strikers who drop back, link up with midfielders well and get assists, rather than score themselves i. e. Di Santo, Kone and now Anichebe. This is the complete opposite of Bent.
Agree1
Disagree0
Apparently Bent is a bit of a problem character though - so managers avoid unless they really need a striker
Agree0
Disagree0
The fact he's already gone in for Kone makes this story BS
Agree0

If Martinez likes lazy ass players then Bent will fit like a glove.

We don't have enough strikers at all, good ones that is. Kone doesn't look good, jelavic don't even what he's going to do and big Vic don't get me started.

Spoke to Tom Ince in Heswall tonight, his words were brief but I asked him "are you joining everton mate?" and he replied with "na lad".
So we can put that rumour to bed for sure now, but by the way he behaved i'm not sure I would want him, he was throwing missed punches at a guy who wound him up, lucky he didn't make contact, or he'd be in court.
Tom Ince will not be an everton player.

The following is in the press
Everton manager Roberto Martinez will have to compete with Bordeaux if he is to be successful in being reunited with Wigan wide man Jean Beausejour, 29, at Goodison Park.
Surely RM has to realise Wigan's players are not what we need.
Mark

Hopefully its the players agent trying to fake interest from Everton to get his player better deal from Bordeaux.

Reckon he should have stayed there if he wanted all the same players.

He isn't good enough for us in any positions. He can play as a winger or wing back, and is no where near high enough quality to fill either of those positions for us.

Bordeaux can have him. (Wavertree Blue)

Don't believe all you read this rumour is nonsense
Agree0

The bloke is living in denial. His tactics season after season kept Wigan fighting relegation. He does not seem to be adaptable as some have claimed but rather stubbornly arrogant in his self-belief. I really hope I am wrong but just cannot get enthused about our prospects under Martinez.

Hypothetically:
Out:
Fellaini, 25 mio
In:
Alderweireld, 3 mio + Heitinga
McCarthy 13 mio
Moses, 8 mio
Does that sound realisticly, having in mind, that we already have 6 mio in bank?
Believable5
Unbelievable10
Realistic - although you would need to add 2 or 3 mill onto the mcCarthy price tag.
Agree1

And to the Alderweireld price tag too
Agree0

Another problem is wages. Paying wages for 3 instead of 1 would cost about another 4 million for the year
Torbay Toffee
Agree0
Disagree0
Oh yeah, that's right!
But isn't 15 mio a bit steep? I mean, that's what we gave for Fellaini I for god sake.
Agree0
Disagree0
Yes we paid £15m for Fellaini but McCarthy is a better player now than Fellaini was when he first arrived and the he's 'British' though plays for the ROI.
Agree0
Disagree1
Tbh we'll probably sell Fellaini and Baines and replace them with McCarthy and Beausejour and then maybe a couple of others like Alderweireld and Marrone.
OUT: Fellaini £25m
Baines £18m
IN: McCarthy £16.5m
Beausejour £4m
Alderweireld £6m
Marrone £7m
And save the rest of the money for January. Unfortunately that is realistic.
