Was sitting down with my eldest daughter watchin some of the old videos of everton and got to one with our holy trinity playing and can't help but feel soon we may be graced with a similar standard of midfield we have only dreamt of watching since the mid 60s. I am a early 80s child so got to watch as a very young boy in the pen with my dad the likes of Reid, Bracewell, sheedy, steven. I only wish I was old enough to have seen my dads idols ball and young play thier trade week in week out. My memory of efc in the 90s for which time I mostly held season ticket after season ticket was traumatising, seeing my beloved everton commonly drawing or losing at home against teams who we would have thrashed in years gone by in the 80s. I finally have THAT FEELING again of the 80s looking at our team sheets seeing mccarthy, barry, barkley, deloufeu, mirallas, mcgeady, pienaar, osman, naismith and thinking bring whoever you want we are everton and we are going to play you off the park. Can't wait for the european nights and our fight for the top 4 next season. COYB.

If you haven't heard it yet listen to the real Roberto interview on radio city, an hour long Q&A sessiion with Bobby.

The guy is class, especially loved the bit where he spoke about changing the mentality of the players from thinking they'l never get results in certain situations like playing away at Man u, to believing they can win, something Moyes failed to do.

He's pretty funny too.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 May 2014 09:05:42
He is good for a laugh.

Just going to throw this one out there.

If the reds decide not to renew glen johnsons contract, why don't we go for a cheeky 1-2 mil bid in the summer? Would provide great backup for Coleman

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don't rate that chap at all he can't defend and his awareness is muck NO THANK YOU if he is not good enough for them he is not good enough for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 19:50:58
No thanks he is as useful as a chocolate teapot. The lad can't defend, his positional sense as a full back is woeful and let's be honest he isn't that great at going forwards. Prefer to have hibbo play before him. As much as hibbo is limited past the half way line, his defending is class a proper old school right back you can depend on if you are playing against a classy left winger like hazard.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 20:01:21
He is awful, like actually terrible, give me coleman and hibbert over him anyday

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't think so mate, ability questionable and he's on 100k a week. Not exactly gunna move to arch rivals to polish the no1 right backs boots. We have defence mainly covered we need to prioritise a top striker and the holding midfield position given Barry isn't a done deal by any stretch

Agree0 Disagree0

Swan your negative towards 95% of the players you ever mention i'm a blue an have no hesitation in saying Johnson is better than Hibbert mat

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 21:29:17
Because everyone links us to crap, milner, johnson, cleverley and chris brunt, champions league? Your havin a laugh!, hibbert is a better defender than johnson

Agree0 Disagree0

No way is Hibbert better than Johnson and Milner is a England international so can't be that crap

Agree0 Disagree0

10 May 2014 12:08:50
Hibbert has kept ronaldo, duff, robben, giggs and ben arfa quiet many tines, johnson has never had a winger in his pocket ever, hibbert is obviously a better defender than jonhson, cleverley is an england international and barry isnt, does that mean cleverley is better? Ahsley young has more caps than lallana and barkley, is he better than both? doesn't take much to be an england international, just have to play for the top four really, not being funny mate but that is very silly to honestly think jonhnson is a better DEFENDER than hibbert

Agree0 Disagree0

Johnson is playing week in week out when fit for a top two team and Hibbert can't even get in the lineup of a fith placed team I understand that your biased mate and people have there own views but hibberts days have bin an gone Johnson is still playing mate

Agree0 Disagree0

10 May 2014 13:34:33
And every liverpool fan wants him gone, emile heskey is still playing, sharpy isn't playing anymore, would you have heskey over a prime sharp? Johnsons garbage mate

Agree0 Disagree0

Come on shakey wake up and smell the coffee mate. Swan is completely right, Hibbert is leagues ahead of Johnson in defensive terms, also who does Johnson have as competition at Liverpool? Andre Wisdom? Coleman is one of the best right backs in the world, most right backs would struggle holding a first team role down with Coleman as their competition. That is why Johnson starts for a 'top 2' team, and Hibbert doesn't get a game for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hibbert number of England caps 0 Johnson England caps 50 say no Moore. I'm sure England managers past an present no Moore than us lot on here

Agree0 Disagree0

10 May 2014 17:09:50
Tom cleverley england caps =13, age = 24, paul bracewell england caps=3, age=retired, cleverley better than bracewell and reid everybody

Agree0 Disagree0

Swan I think its stupid the way you compare different eras Hibbert an Johnson are here an now mate not past and present

Agree0 Disagree0

10 May 2014 21:09:14
Not enough? Okay, tom cleverley has more caps than barkley, lallana, osman and shaw combined, let that sink in, he's better than all them

Agree0 Disagree0

10 May 2014 21:26:07
Just consider hibberts caps are 0 because previously no england manager would look outside the man u, liverpool, chelsea or arsenal teams (plus g neville is more hibbos prime, not johnson for competition). Just also consider how many caps william gallas has for france and how many big sly has.

Watching the england u17s. Ledson looks a very good player.spraying the ball about with both feet too. He seems to be a DM. Looks to have a great future ahead of him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Indeed Dentie, Kenny also really impressed me as well, he's got a great first touch and good end product. The Southampton winger Sims and Fulham Winger Roberts also look magnificent prospects. Ledson looks like a similar player to Yaya, great passing ability and makes lung busting runs through the middle, got a great dig on him as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

Anyone know how winger Josh Sims got on?

Agree0 Disagree0

Sims was a pain in the butt to the maltese players.i agree bitter.john joe did well too.thought he was seamus the amount of times he got up the wing.even commentators said near the end "someone tell him he is the right back", just as he was dribbling throught the left side 18 yrd box.but all in all it looks like we got a amazing midfielder in Ledson. i'd go as far to say, put him I next season.if your good enough your old enough

Agree0 Disagree0

10 May 2014 10:23:59
Dentie, I agree with u to an extent where u say if your good enough your old enough, but also consider the ability he is up against in the under 18s, its a big step up from that to playin that to prem football. i'd say its close to 2nd division football standard to prem standard which as we know are gulfs apart!

Agree0 Disagree0

True m8, but watched the whole game and even under pressure he drifted passed the player into space to pick out a pass. I don't think its a coincidence that bobby had him on the bench for the previous 2 matches. We'll just have to see what happens next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh great! Sims is a friend of mine, went to school with him but I couldn't watch the match. Great to hear that he's doing well! Not Everton related but thanks fellas!

Watching England u17s, Ledson looks just like Barkley from a distance. Two footed lovely balance, and lovely passer of a ball. Very impressed.

Ye hey Traore set to play Sunday hope he can last the match.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Kone Traore Gibson - sorry but they need to go

Agree0 Disagree0

Would you want him back next season on another loan? Martinez clearly rates him, could be an easy deal to do and supplement a permanent signing like Bony or whoever. 6'9 strikers equally happy keeping the ball on the deck don't come round too often

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 19:53:08
There's a reason he's not being snapped up by top clubs. A good stop gap, but feel we would start kone before traore if either of them ever get fit.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 20:05:21
Latchford lad, what! Kone hasn't been given a chance, will score 10 plus goals next season, if we sold him we would get 1-2m, better off using him, traore will be a good player if he comes back, someone that size being that fast and that food on the ball is very rare, gibson is a good player, better than bringing in 3 centre mids just use the ones we have, youve just made next season with europa a lot harder getting rid of those three, we should use them

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - give me kone over traore any day mate..

09 May 2014 20:19:17
Or even better ed, have both of them, bony/whoever we sign, naismith, kone and traore, good options for the four competitions we will be in

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - it will be a numbers game swan, im not a big traore fan myself, but as you say..fighting on 4 fronts means we will need all the guys we can get mate..

09 May 2014 15:27:04
We clearly have a tight knit squad and who ever Roberto brings in will have to want in on it. A premaddona can destroy a team spirit so the balance has got to be right.
Everton is the Peoples club and we now have a manager who will take an average player and make them great.
Work hard, play hard and the rewards will come. A bench mark has now been set. Teams will be more ready for us next season so we are going to have to be on top form from the getgo!
Europe here we come!

I see Martinez has said that he could give a list of 100 players Everton could be after. But a lot of factors go into seeing whether they are the right fit. 1 was, is the player going to harm the chances for 2 of our youngsters to progress. I think we are going to see a few new youngsters in the squad next season. I see a very bright future ahead for this football club.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

09 May 2014 14:01:51
Hey ed, all this talk about going after Lukaku shouldn't be considered. They will insist on Barkley as part of any deal. I feel it is more important that we hold on to our key players if we sell Barkley, Coleman and loose out to Barry we will regress next season. We need to hold on to them and add to the squad to progress next season absolutely no selling.

COYB

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree, he would be a good signing but not at expense of Barkley. I'd also question whether he is actually worth the value Chelsea have placed on him. There are some better strikers available for less money

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 09:27:20
hese are the players we should bring in if we can't get lukaku and deulefeu

martins indi 8mil
barry free
tello 8mill
m'villa 10 mil
gomis free
batshuayi 8 mil

Believable0 Unbelievable0

09 May 2014 10:40:50
I believe if we are to fight on 2 fronts (both league push for 4th and on cup fronts europa and domestic cups), we need to buy a few more players.
1. a keeper to test howard, maybe someone like ter stegan
2. a solid centre back to help play distans role martins indi would be ideal, jags and stones rotating in rcb
3. 2 centre mids, barry and diame. gibson and barry as ball playing centre defensive mids and diame and mccarthy rotating as the box to box workhorses
4. 2 centre forwards preference would be of lukaku or bony and batshuai
5. 2 wide players deloufeu on loan and perhaps bolasi

this would create 2 solid teams of 11 with subs to allow us to rotate the squad to help fight on all fronts without breaking the bank, but also not impact too much on our progress in the league with having to play mid week games and players tiring

Agree0 Disagree0

Tello looks to be of to the reds mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Id have Duffy in the squad this season.he has got over his mental block after his horrific injury on Ireland duty and was the best centre half in the Championship. Also like to see Lundstram in pre season. He should be breaking into the team or let him go at his age.

Agree0 Disagree0

Potentials:

Strikers: Bony, Remy, Lukaku, Ings, Batshuayi, Welbeck, Traore (loan)

Def mid: Barry, Jedinak, Mulumbu, Jacob, Schneiderlin, Medel, Rodwell

Versatile mid: Diame, Milner, Ward Prowse, W Hughes, Colback, Holtby

Wingers: Del Boy (loan), Bolassie, Assaidi, Moses, Ince, Ben Arfa, Johnson, Atsu, Piazon

Seen we've been linked with the young Dundee fullback, I don't think we need necessarily strengthen the defence. Already have 2 right backs, 3 left backs, 4 centre backs not including Duffy and Browning. I think we need 7 signings: 2 strikers. 2 def minded midfielders, 1 more attacking midfielder and 2 wingers. I would look to move on Pienaar, Guaye & Velios.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 20:03:28
I'd be happy with any of the following.
Strikers: Bony, Lukaku, Batshuayi, Welbeck,
Def mid: Barry, Jedinak, Schneiderlin
Versatile mid: Diame, W Hughes, Colback, Holtby
Wingers: Del Boy (loan), Bolassie, Ince, Ben Arfa, Atsu.

think indi could be the only defender I would want to sign, just so we are comfortable on all fronts as stated earlier i'd have 2cb for league and 2 for all cups domestic and european with alcaraz and duffy as additional back ups.
lastly I don't know whether anyone else thinks if joel has progressed this season and if he could be depended on if tim got a bad injury, I personally would like another class keeper to fight with tim for his place.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im with you on the goalie craig...i just dont trust joel..

Does anyone know anything about the young Czech keeper we signed in Jan? Think we should loan Robles out like Chelsea have Courtois. He looks suspect but with GKs you don't know over such a short period, confidence and experience is everything.

Good Luck to Ryan Ledson as he leads out the England U17 team later today against Malta in their European Championship match.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Jonno is it being televised?

Agree0 Disagree0

I believe it's on 'British Eurosport 2' at 5:00pm today (Friday, 9th May). They're showing the other matches - across both their channels - throughout the tournament.
England play Turkey on Monday, 12th May, at 10:15am and they play Netherlands on Thursday, 15th May, at 10:00am.
The semi-finals will be on Sunday, 18th May, (4:45pm and 7:45pm) and the final on Wednesday, 21st May ( at 7:00pm).
I hope I've got that all correct ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - If you watch any the Scotland matches keep an eye out for Jack Breslin. He's my mate's nephew who plays as CB for Celtic and looks a cracking young player, although I might be biased :)

Ed007 who are the ones to look out for in general in Scotland? I see we have been linked with young Robertson and James Forrest? I'm a big fan of Ryan Gauld, how is he progressing? Will keep an eye out for Breslin

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Dundee Utd probably have the best youth set-up in Scotland right now, as well as Robertson and Gauld there is Gary Mackay-Steven and a 17yr old CB called John Souttar who looks a cracking player. Utd will struggle to hold onto them this summer IMO.
As a Celtic fan I have to say I don't rate James Forrest, when I seen the reports that Everton were willing to pay £7 million for him I nearly fell off my chair, he is an injury prone one trick pony winger who has problems crossing and is average at cutting inside, he was a good youngster but has failed to progress since then and he is 23 this summer.
Celtic also have some fine youth players but it comes down to if they will get a chance there or need to move on, a few who will certainly make a decent mark on the game are Bahrudin Atajic, Joe Chalmers, Marcus Fraser and Liam Henderson who has had a few first-team chances at the tail end of the season. We have a young striker called Tony Watt, (scored the winner against Barca 2 years ago), he is going to be a major talent if he screws the nut and knuckles down, after the Barca match his ego went into overdrive, personally I don't think the club handled the situation all that well and should have wrapped him in cotton wool away from the press and public eye and he was sent to Lierse in Belgium on loan for the season. If he has got his head in shape I expect him to make a big money move in a couple of years.
I've not seen many of the Scotland Under 17s apart from Celtic players but Zak Jules & Jake Sheppard (both at Reading), Cameron Ballantyne (Dundee United) and Scott Wright (Aberdeen) are all highly rated by coaches and scouts etc.}
