There is little doubt RM's demeanour and personality are aligned to EFC tradition and he always appears to look for positives in any situation, whether that is the case behind closed doors is another case, but he must see that high levels of passing and possession must have an end product to be effective.
Our passing game has slowed considerably as the season as progressed and is easy to defend against as a result. Against Arsenal, despite not playing as well as we can, we were comfortable until Barry's rush of blood in conceding a needless penalty.
We were then forced to chase the game and lost two goals to breakaways as a result.
Analysing the two goals, for the third Osman despite being fresh barely jogged into our penalty area and was totally unaware of Sagna's overlap until he reached the byline and therefore was fractionally late in preventing the pullback.
For the last goal Delboy again lost possession when Coleman committed to a option by making a forward run and was woefully out of position leaving our right flank exposed.
Finally it would appear the cb, s positional sense was suspect but when both Distin and Stones are forced out of position to try and cover, as a result of other team mates going AWOL, there are mitigating circumstances which the coaching staff need to address quickly.
The amount of work McCarthy, Barry, Pienaar, Coleman and Baines have to get through to cover for 'flair' players who only turn up every five or six games is starting to take its toll.

{Ed003's Note - We require posters to register and log in mate.}

Good post - and for their third (?) - the one slotted in from the byline pullback - you could see the scorer standing alone in the middle of the box for about 2 or 3 seconds (ages) and not one of the 4 everton players around him marked him or moved to close him out or down

Some thickish or lazy players in our team sometimes - but the biggest annoyance is the selfish grabbing upfront - started by mirrallas - the trouble is once it starts it gets reciprocated back by everyone because they think - he's not passing to me so I won't pass to him - and it just gets worse and worse
The cycle has to be broken and quick

Why is it, that when I make a point such as us lacking goals or not agreeing with people who slag Moyes off (and I even say things sarcastically about him. eg "he who should not be named". as in Harry Potter. Voldemort) the only way people can react is by saying, "Go off and support United then".
Just because I think we have a deficiency within our squad, or that a past manager should not be treated with the amount of disrespect that he has, this does not mean I am any less of a Blue than anyone else. This is supposed to be a banter page, whereby we voice our opinions yes? When I voice mine, I get the likes of Swan, Oli Jennings and some Mikes telling me to push off and support United. I hear other supporters slagging off Osman who I also have the greatest respect for. Even Hibbo and Howard and Robles get slagged off. It seems others are allowed to slag off players and ex managers, but when I support them, I am told to go and support another team. Here is a question for you all. Seeing as I seem to be the one actually doing what the word suggests (supporting), why don't you all *** off and support Man Utd. There, now someone put the toys back in my pram.
Laugh boys!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You are usually one of the better posters mate. And I have never once told you to support another team (If that post was aimed at me).

But how is constantly going on about how great moyes is, supporting the team. You seemed to be made up they went above us yesterday just so you could mention again how brilliant a manager he is. It just seems a bit weird.

Agree0 Disagree0

Degsy I generally agree with you a lot of the time but may only read your comments and only post not as often as I should. I echo your thoughts on Moyes yes he is a good manager and he did a lot for our club taking an ageing squad and making us into a team competing for Europe in comparison to Roberto his style was not as attractive and yes he did make mistakes in transfer market at times and some negative subs, In his last season we did play some good football but I do feel Moyes lost his desire to take us forward in his last couple of seasons, in the beginning he would be positive beleiving we could upset others a break into the top four with hard work and team ethic. As the years went on it just seemed to disperse and he lost heart always selling our best players to stay afloat. But he has hurt all Evertonians in the manner he went to Utd everyone knows it was done a lot earlier than has been said and hopefully we will find out in the coming years and if that lack of respect wasn't enough the manner in which he has publicly tapped up our players has just been a disgrace and has spoilt any relationship David had with our club and supporters that give him our full support and I personally thought he was our next best manager after Howard Kendall even though he won nothing and Joe Royle did I do believe if we never sold certain players or had more finances or didn't get knocked out of champs league qualifier by Collina dodgy decision we may be in a different position now. But that is how it goes and Moyes has gone and for the way he has acted recently I hope he fails in his new role and realises the moral mistakes he has made to his former employees. We have a young manager who has the desire and hunger of what Moyes had in his first few years but hopefully our club is in a different place to what it was then we don't need to sell our best players, hopefully we have a good batch of youngsters (hopefully like Giggs, Beckham, Butt and Scholes) coming through and maybe its our time to show everyone what our great club is all about. We play some great stuff and I am proud to say I am an Evertonian from top to bottom we do the right things morally. At the moment we may have had a blip but would much rather see us getting beat in this manner and have a go at teams to go to Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal and dictate in games sometimes you just need the rub of the green and those 3 results could have been different. I can honestly say the only game I have been really disappointing in was the derby all the rest we have have given a decent account of ourselves. IMWT

It was me ed I was signed in.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have never once, and never would, tell you to go and support Utd. So I would appreciate you leaving me out of that one. Firstly, it's a ridiculous and childish thing for anyone to say. Someone doesn't like your opinion so they tell you to support someone else? My response to that would be: Who the hell are you mate?

I certainly havnt hidden my disdain for you repeating the same post daily about lack of goals for 2 weeks but I repeat, I would not ever tell you to support someone else. Your a blue. Period. As am I. And I'd much rather you were a blue than a red trust me!

I understand why robles is slagged off I don't think much of him but howard is brilliant and how could anyone ever slag off hibbo? Hibbo has to be on the plane to Brazil

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i thoroughly expect hibbo to be on the plane in june minato......i believe he is taking 2 inches off his front door!.. ;)

Oli and Robbie. thanks for that. Robbie, great post and that is exactly what I have tried to say only for people to slag me. I am not a Moyes lover. I just appreciate what he did. mainly early on. I will show him more respect than he has us. Just because I believe that's how it should be. By the way, Mike S was the one who particularly insulted me.

Just seen the F.A Cup draw will definitely be a team lower than us in the cup final so euro league places only go to 6th place and below. I believe we will finish 7th so I don't think there will be European football at Goodison next year maybe that's a good thing I don't know, what do you guys think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think that's a good thing. The team will be very much in transition next season, with lots of important players being too old or leaving, and I don't think we'd be able to handle the extra fixtures it brings. Maybe the season after.

Agree0 Disagree0

I really want/wanted Europe, even if just the Europa league. Firstly, I think our game is perfect for the competition. We play a style of football that teams on the continent would really struggle against. I think we could get far in it. Remember the winners will be getting Champions League qualification from now. But even if you don't win it, a good run in that playing some good stuff would work wonders for the club and helping attract more players and raise awareness for what we are trying to do and the manner we are going about it. I personally think our style is more suited to playing this kind of opposition than most premier league clubs and I'd be really intrigued to see how we fair. But I see the fatigue argument. And that's a good argument. But its not enough reason for me to want to turn my nose up at an extra chance of a trophy, champions league qualification, midweek games at Goodison under lights, some great trips to European cities, ultimately more experience for the players and more £s in the coffers.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - they are fair points you make oli, but we will need more numbers in the squad for it not to be detrimental to the league form mate, i too would look forward to it, but as teams like swansea have found out, its not easy to mix the both..

True Ed, but, I think the two could go hand in hand. Getting Europa League qualification would help attracting better players and improve the squad. We can look at Swansea, they have struggled a bit. But I think that's more down to Michu and Vorm injuries, something that would have happened anyway. Would they have been able to sign Bony? They played Valencia, they went to Napoli. Everton v Valencia, Everton v Napoli. There's a ring to those fixtures. Yes for every Napoli there's a KF Skënderbeu Korçë but what beer do they have over there? I've never been, you?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i have not been to albania either oli, but i might go if get a europa place, its supposed to be very cheap, so i might go with bill.. :)......by the way mate, make sure you sign in, i knew who it was, but other eds may delete, as its a registered only site oli..

Now before I get slated I like Martinez he has been a breath of fresh air since coming to the club. However if he's ever going to mature into the manager people think he is then he's going to have to learn quickly that you sometimes have to win ugly. This " I would rather lose playing well attitude" is massively naive. I as well as I imagine most other fans would have quite happily taken the scrappiest of 1-0 wins yesterday. We're not at Arsenals level so trying to play them at there own game was ridiculous.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

This Arsenal away your talking about they don't don't do losing 1-0 at home.
No matter how we played yesterday we wouldn't have won so winning ugly was never an option.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Mar 2014 13:33:20
I accept that we are out of the cup, Arsenal were the better team on the day.

What I do not accept is the way that the club disrespect the fans time and time again by fielding weakened teams. Yesterday it was in just one position, but what a critical position that was!

As fans, we take the time and trouble, and cost to follow our team all over the country. Yesterday, my daughter and I spent over £400 to go and watch the game (tickets, fuel, parking, meals) and it felt like the club were not bothered one way or the other whether they won or not.

That much was evident before they even kicked off due to team selection. You need to pick your strongest team if you want to beat the likes of Arsenal.

This was our most important game of the season so far and now our season is more or less over.

Another route to Europe is gone, not that European football is important to our club as RM announced last we that he would use the under 21's if we got into the Europa League instead of the Champions League!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

09 Mar 2014 13:40:26
I thought martinez said if we got europa we would bring in quite a few playera in the summer? don't remember him saying he would field our under 21s?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we will struggle to get Europa League now. Look at our recent form. Lukaku back will help, but Spurs are 5 points ahead. We have 2 games in hand. Manchester United are same points and we are a game in hand. We have lost 3 of our last 6 league games. and the cup one. Spurs lost 2 and Manchester United 1 from their last 6. So our current form is not as good as theirs. Time will tell, but I think we are struggling at present. Since January, if you take out the Stevanage and QPR games, we are averaging less than a goal a game. That is relegation statistics. I know Swan will say. , same old record etc. but at least some are seeing it as well as me now. I love the RM philosophy of flowing football, but I prefer winning games. We will be better with Lukaku, but after he goes.

Agree0 Disagree0

This was an interview recorded midweek, partially played in an early morning broadcast on Merseyside, he was saying that he thought Thursday was too close to the weekend to risk first team players and although he wanted to bring players in to strengthen the first team squad, he would utilise under 21's in the Europa League.

Agree0 Disagree0

Our 'poor' current form is made up of away losses to spurs and Chelsea - both unlucky- and the weird disaster away loss to Liverpool - plus the shambles yesterday away to arsenal - against other non top 5 teams we're still winning so its all to play for if you ask me

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't have too much to say about yesterday, unlike the derby debacle I wanted to give yesterday some time before I expressed my opinions.
I think 2-1 would have been a fairer result the goals we conceded were due to us chasing the game.
Ross Barkely is excellent. He is already I think our best player.
I got slated for this after the derby but nothing has changed, john stones is massively over rated. Yes he is young but his positional sense is awful. I hope one day he becomes a premiership defender but as it stands he is championship at best.
Robles is simply terrible. The other players are embarrassed by him. Look at the reactions of the players when he almost flapped the ball in to his own net.
McCarthy is great, I like Barry too. Super Kev needs a rest. With our season essentially over I would give him 10 days off now. Lukaku will be awesome, needs better stamina which I think effects his performances levels some games. Pienaar needs replacing. As will Lukaku.
Over all not a bad first season but not as good as we all thought it would be a couple of months ago.
Big summer ahead.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Very commendable, but have to say McCarthy had his worst game for us yesterday, he couldn't track anyone, the space he kept giving Ozil was frightening. Maybe he's the one that needs a rest, he was awful for Rep Ireland too.

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought McCarthy was typically excellent yesterday, just slipped for their first goal, which you can't blame him for. I don't think Stones is overrated at all, though, he's just not ready to play the top teams like Arsenal and Liverpool, yet. Against West Ham etc. he was brilliant.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Mar 2014 13:32:55
Stones overrated? I've heard it all now, he had andy carroll in his back pocket, the same andy carrol that caused vincent kompany and gary cahill torment in his last season at liverpool, are they league 1 players at best then?, stones is 19, there are not many 19 year old centre backs betyer than him in the prem, in fact there isn't one, his positional sense will improve with age, at the moment his ball playing ability and his perfectly timed challenges are more than enough to be a prem player, we paid 3m for him, he will be a star, he may not be the quickest, he doesn't need to be, at his early age you may have to rely on pace to make yourself look good because in reality you cannot actually defend, like zouma and illori, stones will improve his positional sense quicker than they will becauae they think 'oh i'm quick enough to catch up so I don't need to read the game or actually defend', stones doesn't have that luxary, which will only make him better, I guarantee you, by the time he is 23 and they will be the same age, they will make more mistakes than stones, 3m is a bargain for him, he will be great, think

Agree0 Disagree0

If you want to swap Barkley for Jack wheelchair we are up for that, we will push him to your door, in fact wheel even throw in Diarby and kallstrom, can't say fairer than that

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Mar 2014 15:07:19
Id rather stick danny la rue in midfield than jack wheelchair, diaby I like when he is on form, but he is injured more than a kevin prince boateng when given a week or with his missus and kallstrom, who?, no thanks mate, you can keep em

Agree0 Disagree0

You drive a hard bargain Swan, ok you get Betner too

Denmarks answer to bambi on ice? No thank you, also don't bother with sanogo, the french version of bambi on ice :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Swan he may be good in 3 or 4 years but at the moment he's not strong enough or confident enough to play at places like the emirates, he was on edge all game and after under hitting the pass to Coleman he got worse, I think he will come good myself but he and Robles shouldn't have played

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Mar 2014 00:52:49
I was just wondering, does anyone actually know how much we payed for McGeady? I've generally heard prices between £500k and £2m, but someone today said £6m, which seems absurd for a player with 6 months on his contract who they were desperate to get rid of. I'm a fan of his, but he's not worth that even if he had 5 years left.

No answers like 'too much' or anything, please. I'm not looking for people's opinion on him, we've been over that a million times, just the price.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We got him on a free. He was coming out of contract and what they could have sold him for was equal to the wages they would have had to pay out if he stayed until the end of his contract.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Mar 2014 13:34:20
500k, 6m for a player with 6 months left not to mention the FACT they wanted him gone, whoever said 6m is talking absolute wham

Agree0 Disagree0

That's exactly what I told them, Swan. Even Martinez, who clearly loves him, wouldn't do something that inexplicably ridiculous.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Everton bought out his contract, it cost less than 2m, but he certainly wasn't free as such.}

Gutted because that was too much

Time for a change and go All out for top 4/5 we need to start scoring!
Howard
Coleman jags distin baines
Mcarthy
Mirallas Barkley pienaar
Naismith lukaku

We need to drop one of the defensive midfielders and throw in another attacking player, Naismith will score goals and lukaku needs someone up with him! Big finish now coyb!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

My point is not exactly tactics. Our game is so balance but please take a look. We made a lot of chance but cannot close it. Later we gutted because opponent can do it with a few of their chance. Rm. Has to improve player composure urgently.

Agree0 Disagree0

You do realise that dropping one of McCarthy and Barry then your stopping Baines and Coleman from being effective as without McCarthy and Barry in the team Coleman and Baines can't go forward as much because of the lack of defensive protection.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Mar 2014 21:24:26
Mike as much as I agree that baines and coleman can not go forward in the same attack if barry is dropped, I feel that sacrifice is fine to give when u have naismith up top to draw defenders out of position and give lukaku a real chance at a defender 1 v1. Consider we play 1 up front and there are 2 centre halfs marking him with his back to goal, or he has 1 centre back marking him which he can turn into space and run at a defense. Know which 1 I would choose. I also feel we would hold a better shape defensively if 1 of baines or coleman don't join in every attack.
