09 Aug 2016 22:25:46
So I have a theory on why it has taken time for us to dive into the market.

I think our targets all depended on either Lukaku or Stones going. If neither of these left the club we would have gone out and signed players but not of this calibre that we are looking at now and maybe not as many. We may even have not signed in all of these positions.

With the extra money from Stones we were able to aim at a level up and more EPL proven players which cuts out the risk of buying players yhat don't adapt to our league. Looking at what happened to Liverpool and Spurs when they went to town shopping we are hopefully learning a lesson.

I think that once these 3 or 4 are signed up and done there may well still be more in the bank for that statement making player.

Its only a theory but we don't look like stopping anytime soon and those moaning about delaying or waiting or whatever for players might just sit down on sep 1st and think what have we been worrying about.

{Ed025's Note - im with you john.more to come i think mate.

10 Aug 2016 06:29:57
A keeper should be our priority. All the top teams have a great keeper - break the bank for Forster.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 06:51:20
Totally agree John, RK had a lot of assessing to do with the squad he inherited, coupled with waiting on Stones and city. Hopefully a few more added by the end of the week.
Agree with BB4 on we need a top class keeper but am I one of the few that doesn't rate FF? I'd rather throw money at Butland and, dare I say it, Hart! Both are miles better that Forster imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i like butland spud and i also rate FF, but hart is an accident waiting to happen for me mate, far to pretty for a keeper..

10 Aug 2016 07:59:08
I'm not a fan of Hart. Too hype up in every sense of the word.

I do like the other two but FF would be my choice. I would have loved Schmichel though.

I'm not sure on Mata. He's a big name but I don't know if he's a big game player anymore and it would depend on the outlay on whether he would be worth it.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2016 22:12:45
I am happy with are signings and a possible mata and bony.

Also if we sign enough players called Kone law of averages says one must be good😂.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - love it pb..

09 Aug 2016 21:27:09
What do you think of bolasie ed?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i think hes very good adz, very direct and can frighten defenders to death mate...whats not to like? :)

09 Aug 2016 23:33:26
He reminds me of tino asprilla, just the rubber legs part, not the shooting guns bit lol.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2016 23:35:43
Not for me. Pace, yes. But about 140 games for palace (not all in the prem either) and I think 12 goals. 30 mill for a 28 (nearly 29) for an African going to their cup of nations soon.

Agree0 Disagree2

10 Aug 2016 07:26:48
Bolasie has just turned 27.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 08:04:45
I think he's a good player with pace and directness. He's at his peak age wise. People get worried in spending big money on players over 22 years old but what you are buying is less risk. Players at this age are less risky and are usually established meaning they cost more.

Look at the Stones deal as an example. He's young and not fully developed and at this time needs a lot of work. There's nothing to say he won't get any better. Would you pay for a player £50mil what he is producing right now? I wouldn't. Stones is a huge gamble, this isn't so much.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2016 09:23:55
Hi ed John Stones in City squad for champion league what do you think.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i think we getting top dollar for a guy who does not want to play for us AB..thats life im afraid mate..

10 Aug 2016 00:27:26
Bit surprised we didn't say £40 million and Bonny, City were desperate to sign Stones,

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2016 21:54:26
Don't want to be negative but the squad we have is small and overated if we sign bony etc and they go to the African nations in January then I feel we will be in relegation trouble and might not escape this time we need to strengthen the squad not fill it with players we can't use in january we have all this money and still can't sign anyone something feels not quite right.

Believable3 Unbelievable5

09 Aug 2016 22:19:31
So the best squad since the 80s (according to most fans and was the main reason we demanded Martinez out for underachieving with them) minus Stones, Hibbert, Osman and Pienaar is now dead set for relegation?
My word. Fickle much?

Agree1 Disagree1

09 Aug 2016 23:06:40
Your clearly a disillusioned Liverpool fan. We've got all the young guns, so do one kopite

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2016 23:49:46
We had a bad squad last season but people for some reason believed the crap out of RM's mouth.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 06:57:09
So why were we upset with 11th and 2 semi finals, why did all the pundits and experts think that was underachieving as well? If the squad was poor last season and relegation fodder our achievements were fantastic.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2016 21:51:56
The signings we are likley at getting and signed so far are all proven in the premier league. So let's get gk; creative mid and a striker next; and get us some gems who turn I to diamonds.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

09 Aug 2016 20:11:09
Hey eds do you still think it's unlikely that we will sign Kone from sland or is the deal closer now? I really like this lad I think he could be the best signing of the summer.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - See previous answers.}

09 Aug 2016 22:13:09
Yes I have read them I meant since then has there been any movement? Thanks anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2016 21:02:38
Happy with the signings so far at least we are reinvesting the money from player sales so far (that's when they put pen to paper hopefully) but I think there will be a couple of big signings as well before the window shuts I think we are in for a very good season blues lots to be positive about looking forward to the start of the season COYB love having that positive feeling back.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

09 Aug 2016 20:59:55
If we finalise all current signings and manage to keep lukaku I will be made up. Luck and bony up front will be banging em in!

Believable3 Unbelievable0

09 Aug 2016 20:48:57
Best of luck to Stones, shame to see him leave, but he clearly didn't want to be with us anymore. Fair play to the chief exec etc for getting so much money for him and not letting City bully us.

Onto new signings/ alleged soon to be new signings. Buying players from Villa, Swansea, Sunderland, Palace and Fulham wasn't quite what I was anticipating but I shall withhold judgement till I've seen them play for us. The value of Bolasie is absolutely ridiculous, always reminds of a better version of McGeady, lots of tricks and nothing else. However Koeman and Walsh have my full trust so he may end up proving me wrong.

Lukaku situation needs resolving Asap, I have a feeling he'll stay another season, I could be wrong.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

09 Aug 2016 22:01:11
IMHO real proper scouts can pick out good footballers in poor teams. Exactly what Walsh does. That's why I'm happy with signings. Good chance they'll progress with us. Walsh and Koeman will have them analyzed to the last.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2016 20:13:55
Haha palace think there getting one over on us charging 30m for bolasie but wer having the last laugh if we send them niasse.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

09 Aug 2016 20:04:00
with new investment and a so called war chest to spend we've gone from witzel to ghana, koulibaly to williams and now bolaise, were obviously not going to attract the kind of players we were linked with and hoped for. But imo are squad is thin and average and the new signings will make us a little stronger I'm hoping for a GK next, and you never know a big signing may be round the corner!

Believable2 Unbelievable1

09 Aug 2016 21:57:02
The only bit I really agree with there is looking for a goalkeeper Griffblue. For me Witzel is too dear and a bit of a gamble. I'm happy with who we got. Williams IMO will turn out to be very shrewd business. Bolaise could turn out good. He'll get his fair share of chances.

Big signing? I don't expect it. I'm hoping for keeper and then maybe one or two more. That would be up on 7 signings. I don't think its the Koeman and Walsh way to have massive signings. 7 decent signings will do me. I'm very happy with the business so far.

Very happy with the direction the club appears to be going in. Let's hope all this money, time and effort leads to results on the pitch. Over the next couple of seasons.

A strange thing happens to me today.

I went to bed as normal on Monday night and woke up on transfer deadline day!

Believable2 Unbelievable0

09 Aug 2016 19:59:08
Hi ed, if as expected we complete deals for Kone, williams and bolasie? It will make our net spend about £15m in window . Will we buy anyone else u think and in what positions? Also do we have to sell Lukaku to spend anymore?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed041's Note - I Don't know.

09 Aug 2016 19:51:15
Lost stones but we knew that was coming and joe hart can kiss my swingers, as stones confessed he tapped him up. On the plus side Williams is quality, Bolasie is better than we have so positive and really hope we get kone as he would be the jewel. Would love ziechly and slimani. Save the rest of our war chest for January, what a difference a few signings make to the whole blue army!

Believable2 Unbelievable0

09 Aug 2016 19:21:08
Sunderland in for McNair. Kone replacement?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

09 Aug 2016 19:03:13
Got to say fair play to the men at the top for not being bullied by city and sticking to their guns on the valuation placed on Stones. I wish John well but he is now in the past and it's time to look forward. There were a few knee jerk posts from certain posters who just wanted signings for the sake of it, but in reality our targets probably weren't available until their clubs had replacements lined up. I don't know what our squad looks like with regards to how many places are available, that one is for Cowpat sid. I reckon we will see players moved on also, maybe on loan or permanently. Obviously the players without squad numbers are surplus but could we also add the likes of Cleverly to that and maybe Mccarthy if rumoured Stoke interest is to be believed. I like Jimmy and I'm not saying get shut but I can't see him being a starter with Gueye coming in. The reshape is beginning and the balance of right and left may finally be solved with Yannick. Hopefully we get these across the line and make a strong start to the season and maybe silence the negative posts too. COYB.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2016 19:56:47
You two, no need for sarcasm! They are being very quiet though. I'm sure they are just as happy as all Blues are today. Just hope these deals get finalised. We sold one player today. Even though we are strongly linked with 3 they are not officially Everton players yet.

Wait! There's negativity creeping in :-) In Koeman and Walsh I do trust. Let's just hope the business is done on the pitch. Will take time to get the last managers mentality out of the players. But as I said in Koeman and Walsh I do trust.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2016 21:48:36
It's not sarcasm NBTB it's Banter 😂 on a serious note I agree we need to get the pen to paper on the deals for the 3 players, which I believe we will. Kone, Williams and Mori is a no nonsense back line and a back to basics Everton way of defending hopefully of if in doubt belt it out. Last few years every time the opposition had a set piece around our area I felt we would concede. I also feel Rom is going nowhere and our new look attack is to supplement him not replace him.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2016 18:35:36
If we sign bony kone and bollaise along with Gueye all 4 will be on African nations duty come January.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2016 20:01:54
it happens looks like koeman wants to add strength so we become more physical and imposing for other teams and I couldn't agree more. These are the players available that can do that so it is what it is.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2016 16:59:09
If and it's a big if, as when I've Googled the stories are coming from twitter. Then I would be happy with our new look attack and defence going into the new season. Granted we still need a keeper but to add bolasie and Bony to Rom and Delboy and Mirallas then we have goals in us.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2016 17:05:20
apparently Bony was talked about same time as the Stones deal was concluded however I don't think he will be a cheap buy.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2016 16:14:59
Ssn reporting we are in talks to sign Kone from Sunderland player apparently in merseyside strange as they also say we made no bid weird one that what's he doing on merseyside if we made no bid?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

09 Aug 2016 15:51:31
I can see Mata signing for us on deadline day just a feeling I have, Need another striker and a winger as well also another centre half and I think we will be complete but if we don't get those positions filled I think we will still do well this season because Koeman comes with more than a plan A really have a good feeling about this guy very happy to have him really looking forward to this season. But on the transfer front none of us really know who the club are putting bids in for but for some strange reason I think we will get Mata but I could be completely wrong but you never know.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

09 Aug 2016 15:38:06
Good luck to Stones. He's a nice lad and is an example to people like Lukaku on how to conduct yourself in these matters.

For us we can move on over what seems to have gone forever. Williams seems like a good fit and happy we have got someone in with experience. If Kone is also going to come then we will be getting another good young CB. I think there is likely to be much more coming in over the final few weeks as well.

Not sure I want to see Jags go but he does seem to be injured quite a bit and how he fits into Koemans team i'm not sure with Williams here now.

Anyway onwards and upwards.

COYB NSNO.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

09 Aug 2016 16:31:31
Didn't he stick a Transfer Request in last season? Is that how you conduct yourself? When I believe Lukaku hasn't done that? I think it's mostly the media mate to be honest. Seems to me they are trying to portray your club as a selling club. Which I don't think you are by the way.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2016 16:45:37
Not sure about him being a nice guy BlueJohn. He has obviously wanted out for the past year, has not performed as well as he is capable and every photograph of him has shown a sulky face. The first time I have seen him smile is this morning when he signed for City. His statement that he has been following City in the pre-season says it all. I would not be surprised if he is on the City scrap heap in a few years. A talented player but one we can do without. If players do not want to play for us then they should go especially at the present inflated transfer prices and that goes for Lukaku as well. He has been crap since ten games back in last season, missed a penalty against United and generally looks as if he does not care. If we give him an increased wage then he better put more effort in otherwise it will be better to take the money.
I know this is a business these days and the time when players sweat blood for the club have long gone but I want to see players who give their all for the club that are paying their massive wages. Sulky players who think that they are better than Everton Football Club we can do without.

Good luck to Stones happy with Williams pity we didn't get him a couple of years ago but 2 good seasons from him I'd say given his age ah well just to get rid of Lukaku now and then we will have a full squad of players that actually want to play for us.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

09 Aug 2016 12:48:22
Kone En route now too.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

09 Aug 2016 12:43:53
Good luck to Stones - wish him all the best. Has the potential to be world class in a year or 2, but realistically he was never going to reach that level with us so good luck to him. Under Guardiola and with a team who will defend less and where he will therefore be under less pressure I think he will thrive. Although the fee is massive I think it is a good deal for all parties.

Williams is a fantastic signing - a leader and exactly what we need. Would be delighted with him and Indi.

Don't need Kone as well, 18mil is far too much. Between Jags, Funes, Williams, Indi, Holgate and Pennington we have CB covered. Also think Galloway on loan makes a lot of sense to give him 1st team football with a strong squad. Also points to Holgate being given a bigger role to play.

Pleased with the business starting to be done!

Jagielka has had his day I'm afraid. Don't be surprised if he went in this window. You'd want Williams as a Captain and I wouldn't be surprised if that was a part of him coming. Funes Mori needs more time out of the first 11 so Kone would be my preffered with PL experience.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2016 13:57:51
stevie - can't say I saw much of him other than when he scored twice against us. I know he is highly rated in Sunderland. My opinion is mostly based on the fact that I had never heard of him before he joined for 5mil just 7 months ago! Probably a fairly ignorant view haha

Happy to put all my trust in those in charge as they clearly have more knowledge on the player than me. And if he does join then I hope he adds steel to the defence.

Also the more I think about it - having pushed the Stones price up to almost 50mil, we can hardly complain about being pushed up to 18mil by other teams!

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2016 12:32:34
More than happy with williams, leader on the pitch and good player, will make us solid. Thinks it's a good buy. We need someone like this even if it's short term, stones has potential but let someone else get it out. Could end up at west brim in two years. Also would like a few more signings this week👍.

09 Aug 2016 14:03:22

To many small minded individuals on here, I personally will miss Stones and indeed would have liked to see him alongside Williams who I'm sure will be a great defensive stalwart for us. Stones is the most versatile defender in the premier and could easily sat in front of a back four or perfect with three CB's.
I wish him all the best he has had a rough ride from a lot of so called supporters over the last year!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is not small minded to not rate a player mate. He has been woeful for you, despite all the hype. It was ridiculous for such a poor defender. You should just be glad Citeh's scouting is so utterly useless when it comes to finding players in recent years, or they might have signed a defender, rather than a youngster who thinks he is the reincarnation of Beckenbauer but has not even learnt to do the basics yet.}

He has youth on his side and you are never to old to learn, its just the right manager and defensive coach getting the best from him. Unfortunately like so many other its to much to young!

So Ashley Williams more or less confirmed pending a medical later today.
A good, solid, experienced, no nonsense defender in my eyes and just what we need during this rebuilding stage.

Pretty sad to see Stones go, he will be world class one day and I wish him well. Williams is a good replacement in the short term, but can't help think we will never replace Stones. But, life goes on and we've lost great players before today and done ok.

Ped I think we got another in this Holgate.

We leaked so many goals with him at the back, he made so many mistakes so either he isn't as good as we thought or he was playing for a move. Either way we will carry on without him. But can't blame him for wanting to go he was never a blue in my eyes we were always a stepping stone.

Definitely BeStyrne, he looks a class act.

He's not the finished article and has not been coached correctly IMO Dunc. A top top player who we should be really sad to see go.

Just watched the Stones interview on ssn, from the answers he's giving to the questions I'd say it was recorded last night.
(nice kagoul as well)

So that's stones away finally I for one will be glad to see the saga draw to conclusion.
Would be happy with Williams or the lad from Sunderland kone at the back. Heard rumours about suspected interest in bolasie which think would be a good shout aswell but feel we need a decent striker up front even if we keep Lukaku. I'd like someone like Shane long not the most prolific of strikers granted but what he lacks in that dept he makes up in his overall play. Are there any rumours of any new attacking options coming in?

One of the eds said were in for ante coric and we will get another striker. id wager bony.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Ante Coric of Dinamo Zagreb is destined for an excellent career if he doesn't move too early - but Chelsea, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Spurs and Manchester City are very keen. His club are aware of this interest and the tentative interest of other sides, such as Liverpool and West Ham. I have no knowledge of any bid from Liverpool but it has been made clear that the player would not join other interested sides just yet as he knew he would not be getting game time - so perhaps a move to a club where he is guaranteed to play regularly is an option. Liverpool certainly have interest, as do West Ham, but were not one of the five clubs Zagreb had said they had spoken to. Manchester City has approached his agent again recently and a number of other sides have made general enquiries with his agent about availability, these include Udinese, Crystal Palace, Everton and Ajax.}

I'm not convinced that a season-long loan for Galloway to NUFC is really that good for us. He may well play more matches with them next season than he might with us, but can we afford to not have him available for us? However, I defer to the powers-that be at our club who know better about developing young players than I do ;-)
Wnat's more concerning imho are the reports that it's a loan-to-buy agreement that could result in a permanent transfer. Why on Earth would we want to sell one of our young talent - especially if he's gained good experience playing in competitive Championship-level matches during the season-long loan?

Stones off to city next 24hrs hope bony comes our way plus 50 mil its going to be a very busy week i think and we could get bolasie and kone and a few more i know we have had a quiet summer in transfers but this next 2weeks going to be crazy.

I hope so berkshireblue we have to get a good replacement kone and indi and williams good solid players stones makes just to much mistakes cost us points last season and we could get bony as a swap deal.

Hi eds would you see these playes as the next level we need to get to and realistically how many are we likely to get once stones and rom go? Williams, indi, bolasie, mata, bony, Hart, witsel, slamini

If we got those players in I'd be happy although I'd rather spend 40m on butland than Hart.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - we are after all top players berkshire and them (except hart) would certainly fit the bill, its not easy to get these deals over the line though as we are seen as the new gravy train and just like us with lukaku clubs are taking the mick, we will do business shortly though mate dont worry..

09 Aug 2016 08:34:24
My issue is how can top class players view us as a top club when we are likely to sell our best? surely they may view Everton as the next step up the ladder but nothing more than a stepping stone, unless of course we can start winning trophies!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - if a player wants to go wakka then i say say let him, i dont want anyone at this club if they are not fully committed mate..

SkyLark, whatever the Squad Roberto Martinez has the weakness will always be there and that is his inability to accept advice and lack of anything other than Plan A. It showed at Wigan, then us and believe me it will show with Belgium.
