Just a theory for everyone. So far we've. Signed Galloway and are close to signing Hennen for relatively low prices, anf they are most likley going to be used more for the future and not this season. Could the reason we are looking at these future potential stars now be because we are going to be moving ground soon and will not have as much money in our next windows and so will bring these promising youngsters in as though they are new signings?. i'm sure we saw a similar thing at Arsenal after their moved to the Emirates.when they bought in Walcott and eventually Ox and Ramsey. Perhaps we are close to finally buying a plot of land?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Arsenal were at the Emirates before chamberlain and Walcott signed

Agree0 Disagree0

We haven't sign cheaply mate. Total spent a lot. So your theory fallen. Not related to build up new ground.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rather buy them now for cheap than £20 million in a couple of years, take a look at stones, saved us a load of money on a player worth at least 12 mill now

Hi Ed
So pre-season hasn't gone too well or has it?
Roberto has clearly used preseason to see who is up for the task.
Some players not firing and will no doubt be told so in Robertos way, however I get the impression that Roberto is playing cat and mouse with the press.
I personally think its a must we sign at least another top striker and another two attacking options, however we do seem to be leaking goals which is something we didn't do last year.
I hope we hit ground running because things could quickly turn sour if we don't pull it together.
I'm sure Roberto has things in hand, but as outsiders it has taken away a bit of my gusto and expectation at this moment.

Pre season is now over and it has to be said it has been extremley poor and more than a little worrying. When we have our strongest 11 stating and firing on all cylenders we can beat or match anyone in this league but what worties me most is that it would apear we are nowhere near being able to put that first 11 out. No coleman who is being covered by hibbert who it pains me to say should have retired at the begining of last season. No mirralles no lukaku but what is even more worrying is the players who are available just don't seem ready. I know we've smashed our transfer record with lakaku but I strongly believe we need at least 3 more first team challengers bringing in and we needed them before this weekend. I'd love to see us bring a couple of big name players like remy and ben arfa to acompany atsu but I just can't see it never mind someone like cerci. If we don't hit the ground running we could find ourselves playing catch up after half a dozen games just like when moyes was here and all that momentum from last season will have gone and that would be a crime. Let me make it clear I trust bobby completley and truly believe he will bring us success but having watched the pre season games i'm rapidly losing confidence we will get the start we need to push on this season and that would be a tradgedy after a fantastic first season.

I can't help but think RM may have misjudged the quality of some of our players, persevering with Naismith, Mcgeady, Alcaraz, Osman and Hibbert. are just not up to it. I know it's only pre season but it has been woeful, A lot of them don't look fit, RM says he only wants one or two more players, LO and TH have been good servants but are now past it, SN, AMc and AA are not good enough, I think we need to let them go as their not even good squad players, unless we get a number of players in we are weaker than last season, I know this may upset few of you but it is my opinion.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Dont agree with having naismith in you not up to it category. He is a better footballer than we give him credit for.hell of a footballing brain on him.oh and by the way. he can put the ball in the net

Well said mate, I also think stones, barkley, baines, jagielka, howard, distin, mccarthy, barry, pienaar, coleman and joel have looked poor, we should get rid of them all instantly! Martinez looks clueless, sack him, lukaku, mirallas and oviedo haven't featured because they are so bad! Release them now bill or face the wrath of this fellas insane look on things! He has an opinion! And he's not afraid to use it!

Agree0 Disagree0

Watch Everton 3-0 Arsenal and tell me Naismith isn't up to it. I agree on the others mostly though (think McGeady could be a decent rotation player)

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest I would not sell anyone we have too many games this season and I agree with everyone else when they say talk about Naismith he is very underrated for me and he will pop up with some very important goals this season yes we have been very very poor in preseason in fact I think its the worst preseason I can remember and the players do not look anywhere ready but Roberto knows what he is doing so let's beat those foxes next week and let me watch MOTD smiling then go buy a sunday paper (which I only do when we win)

For me we need to go on a tour every pre season, play tranmere or whoever away as first game then go abroad and play better opposition (roma, schalke, juventus, barca) but in one place and not travelling everywhere, play 4-5 games abroad then play 1-2 matches at goodision, like last season, instead of going from one place then another and back again, rinse and repeat, its too much, go to these tournements in america, asia, australia, wherever, but stay there and play the majority of the games there, i'm not suprised the players are doing so bad because they are knackered, where is kev? I know he got given extra time but why? Belgium only reached the quarter final, if he was really bothered he would of came back early after a week or two, not posting selfies in the sun while his club are 3-1 down against celta vigo!, rom has been keeping himself fit at anderlecht, kev has no excuse for when we play leicester and he's shattered after 20 minutes, the results don't matter, the performances don't matter, what matters is the first game, which, at the moment, NO ONE looks fit enough or cares enough to acually play, besic got given time off, he played 2 games less than kev (but probably ammassed more minutes in total), did he mess about? NO he went straight in, signed his contract, got his head down and wanted to play and work hard, he didn't bother with extra time he just went in instantly, that is the type of player and person a footballer should be, kev had better liven up quickly

Believable0 Unbelievable0

i totally agree. why on earth have rom an kev not been involved, neither played all games every min, imo they should have been in pre season, and if they need time out during the season because of the world cup find a 2 week period during te season were we could poss do without them, as it stands we have leic arsn and chel, it will take them games to get match fit at least, against the later 2 we defo need them firing, so rather than saying have no pre season we should say when the cc is on we will find a 2 week gap ie cc then the next game agaist swansea. rest then. I don't know if it just me but to have some of your improtant players miss pre season when not injured is very odd. I have never heard of this before! does this happen alot?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im hearing they have both got knocks TB, lets just hope they sort it out quickly, as our start is very difficult and could define our season..

09 Aug 2014 17:27:51
My only concern about the pre season is not so much the results, its what's caused the. It must be the worst prepared pre season I've ever known. Up until a month ago there was only 3 games penciled in, there was hardly any first teamers at the initial work out in Austria(world cup ok), Still hardly any players back until Ossies Testimonial and then not all got 45 mins, and yet ya Rooneys and et all had been back for a while.
Rom n Miralas only just back and not ready for 1st game. The signings are close to start of season so no itergrating into the team, so they can't be considered 1st team regulars, Atsu, and whoever else comes in. Then there were games hastily put in as 1st team games and we are expected to pay n see them at Tranmere, when no one is fit! WTF is going on?

I'll be nipping down the betting office next week to place a bet on Everton finishing above us.

£100 mill plus spent with average coursing through the team and toothless up front. Lamberts just not good enough no ifs buts maybes. Off the bench league and FA cup at best. Sturridge is made of glass and will be a totally different animal without Suarez movement. A definite 12-15 game absence with injury. We won't be bringing in another striker before the window guaranteed, the rumours of Falcao, Lavezzi and Cavanhi are a joke, champ league doesn't mean you can shop at Harrods, wages do. All players signed to date would have signed without champs league. Three poached from saints as they pay peanuts and the rest youth. Once Johnson and Agger go all well payed players will be off the wage bill albeit the captain. FSG and Rodgers will be well on track in satisfying the business model.

Lallana, Lovren, Moreno (if he comes) and Markovic all payed for by Suarez, the rest acquired from the usual gilt edged bargain basement £10 mill region where it's a surety the outlay will be recouped if things don't work out.

This situation just beggars belief. At least in yesteryear we've endeavoured to replace like for like. Lambert for Suarez or does zrodgers think Lallana will step into the fold. Brendan was winning me round with his obvious tactical awareness and coaching skills. His work in the transfer markets just ridiculous.''

This is what our rs cousins think of their own chances this season

.Paderborn: 3 Evertpm: 1., what an awful pre-season this is turning out to be.time for us to buck our ideas up me thinks, & before anyone starts moaning at me about it only being pre-season - just remember these teams that are beating us so well are not even that good. Leicester, Celta Vigo, Paderborn (who are they). it all boils down to the fact that we have under prepared & still not at the right level with only a week to go to the new season. I reckon the Leicester fans must be rubbing their hands with glee at the mo, especially with the fact that Lukaku & Mirallas are unlikely to be fully fit as well. sort it boys! Need to hit the ground running right from the start, you raised our expectations last season (& well done for doing so), but you need to carry it on!

That's the first pre season game I have seen, I wasn't particularly worried until today. If Jagielka and Alcaraz are our 1st choice center backs god help us, defence was all over the place, sorry to say but Tony Hibbert's best days are behind him (mind you he got no help from McGeady), nothing in midfield and completely toothless up front. Why have we paid £28 million for a striker who is unfit and where the hell is Miralles. My confidence for the coming season is starting to waiver. Let's hope it's a case of It'll be alright on the night next Saturday.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I have watched them all, utter rubbish. Passing game gone, no forward line, no threat, beaten by Leicester our first opposition. A very poor pre season

Agree0 Disagree0

We have signed lukaku on a 5 year deal, he has more league goals at his age than the likes of messi and Aguero, the fact that he is injured for a week doesn't mean we shouldn't have signed him

I'm not one to jump to conclusions, and I know these are just friendlies that mean nothing, but this preseason has been an absolute disgrace. Every stream was a complete waste of time and money. Why does every other team play these pointless, rubbish opposition and destroy them, yet we lose? We play oversees to raise our profile and just make ourselves look amateurish and embarrassing. Hopeless.

I know we have spent 28m on lukaku, but in the light of getting almost the same amount for fellei, we have in that sense, got him for "free", thus there should still be fund for us to go in for cerci16m or nolito8m if they are what RM wants, or any other 20m or so player who could hit the ground running, momentum is important, and as things stand, we may get left at starting gate, and spend the rest of the season playing catch-up.

I know that, as Evertonians, we should be used to it by now, but it really ticks me off that all the full page ads in the papers for the new Premier league season feature the managers of 6 teams. We finished 5th but Roberto is not featured.
Did I just dream it or did we not finish above Spurs & United!?
Hope it's an incentive for the players to stick it to them.

Bookies see it the same. All six above us in the betting generally. We've just got to serve it to them like last season.

Just read a good piece in the DAILY MAIL from Brian Viner about his new book "Looking for the Toffees "mainly 70's/80's stuff about people & players. Gordon Lee, Andy King & Latchford (now living in Germany) Also a good photo of Latch scoring his record 30th goal against Chelski for 10 grand prize money. The player who crossed the ball was Mick Buckley, sadly Brian says Mick ended up an alcoholic & destitute, he died of cancer.I always thought Buck was underrated, & should have been the new Bally.Lots of other good stuff, anyway, R.I.P. Mick Buckley.

I (very sad) Claudius.

I read the same article this morning. It is a shame regardingly Buckley and I sometimes wonder what happened to a few players from that era. On the othe hand, though, it brought back a few good memories.

Why on earth would our squad not be at this time 100% ready for the big KO?
I understand the WC has delayed certain players but that is the same for everyone else.
The top 4 clubs are all firing on all cylinders and ready to go and I must say our performances have been well below what we would expect after last season. I undersand he will not want to rush players back but still other clubs seem more ready than we do.
I trust RM but am more than a little 'concerned' at our lack of form and readiness.

I see Roberto is now wanting to reward J Mc, I wonder if I came on and had a good half against say Tranmere I might get a 5 year contract, bring it on!
Come on Roberto get some ink ready we need 3 to 4 quality signings asap .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The thing is jonno we need these players on long contracts as they are all
being sought after.you would like to think they are decent people who will honour them.hopefully the next 5 years we will defo have Roberto, seamus, Baines, Stones, Ross, Jimmy Mac and Rom and besic which is a good core.

I am concerned for our start to the season Roberto says that paderborn are ahead of us but surely with this being our last friendly we should be all ready now. I think we have a real tough start with our fixtures don't mean to sound like David moyes but Leicester away, arsenal home, Chelsea home, WBA away, crystal palace home, Liverpool away, Manchester United away.
That is some may say the big four a newly promoted team at their place opening game, palace who beat us last season. And Alan Irvine at WBA which I got a bad feeling about. I am 100% behind Roberto but it does seem like a tricky start, another way of looking at it is if we do well out of these games it sets us up for a good season with tough games out of the way.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We're Dooooooommed!!. Come on Robbie, it's not that bad mate. All those teams will be looking at us and thinking the same thing.

We finished last season with more points than ever in the EPL. There's a lot of kudos that comes with that and I'm sure the lads will be showing a little arrogance in their play that the winning teams often have.

Well be competitive that's for sure. You can trust that from Bobby.

i agree with robbie, we don look upto speed our passing is lacking our concentration is not there at the back, 2 of our big players havnt been involved in pre season, ok they were at the world cup but not to play any part in pre season at all is imo odd, I am sure vp, zabaletta, aguero, messi kompany, ozil etc would have played some part in pre season at least am guessing, in saying that after the last pre season game last season, I thought the same as now and we did well.

I work with a Catalan guy, sgr Casanova (honestly) and he reckons adama traore is a real live wire, great prospect. Hope we might see Bobbie work this out for a loan. Would give us some unexpected impact from the bench.
