The transfer window is not great if you are a Blue. It is clear many posters are stressed already and the window is not technically even open yet. We are not at the top table anymore, we feed off the scraps.
It's a bit like when I play fantasy football. When it comes to the last three or four picks I am skint as I concentrate on a top keeper with a mean defence that score goals like Terry and Ivanovic, a few penalty takers, free kick merchants and the likes of Siggurdson who can outscore all of our midfield put together and then try and top it off with a few top strikers. Only Baines used to get a game but his free kicks and pens West.
As I see it Martinez had a good hand to play last Summer. After last season it is a different story. Next season he is very much in the spotlight. I don't think he has much more than £10m net to spend and after all can he be trusted to spend much more. He therefore has to be a bargain basement wheeler dealer and still get results. To me the best signing would be to nail down McCarthy and quickly.
I'd let Mirralas go. I don't care for his attitude. I'd be happy enough with Lennon but not at any price. Levy is a rogue, but Lennon wants to join and wouldn't need the integration of a fresh face, so we should play hardball to deadline day if necessary. Just wish Lennon could cross like Dave Thomas.
With regard to others I don't think we should be looking at 30 year plus signings though there are many out there who would replace and contribute more than Kone and Alcaraz, the latter I don't think has been released yet.
A solid pre season is vital, players played in their best position is another must and a good start is essential too or the fans will talk. Remember the Kiev game at home. The people spoke and were listened to. Martinez is on thin ice. I am no fan, but wan't him to succeed. If he doesn't and Goodison let's it voice be heard even silent Bill will have to act.

Are situation depresses the arse out out of me, no trophy in 20 years, 3 failed new ground attempts, bringing in freebies or loans, I'm not being funny but where the "F" does all the money go?
Kenwright and our board for all the good intentions they may have come to the club with have took all that Everton can give and ain't put back nothing!
Football clubs should not be allowed to be retirement funds for a small group of coffin dodgers, it's getting like the Johnson era, time they pissed off!!

The signing of players he wanted at Wigan is what gets me, it's like he couldn't be arsed scouting since he got here got out his old wish list and went off that.

Have just read our "great leaders" thoughts on the clubs transfer strategy. Its a bit like his comments after a game, you know, the ones where you start to wonder if he has been watching the same game. His observation on the transfer "policy" are embarrassing, almost makes you cringe, tells it like there is a well planned policy, well only if it's to try and grab anyone who comes with the word free attached, and even then drops out when they are offered desent terms eleswhere. This connman is a fraud, start to finish, except that he may be doing the bidding of his paymasters on our shamful board.

JCW

My take on RM is this, he wanted this job because it was a step closer to his ultimate post .

His arrival was heralded with the fanfare of FA cup winner and the wrong notes of the relegation episode were deliberately drowned out!

Where is he at now, in his career?

Where ever it is, eccentric 'principles' will always be his downfall imo!

you hit the nail on the head there JCW.
as long as Mr.Bean is willing to do the bidding of Kenwright
& the board, then his job is safe, so get use to it.
we are stuck with this fake until we have a change of chairman & the other board members.
Not looking forward to the new season,(first time in over 50
years)
I long for the days of John Moores & Catterick again, but I fear they have gone forever together with the future of our great club.
sorry to sound so negative, but I just can't get excited about
what's going on.

Guys whatever spin he puts on it the facts are that we do not dine at the top table, therefore what we get on our plate is average, we are buying from what I see, hear and expect from the rumours mainly that. The return of Gerry would be good but he was similar to Mirallas in his contributions, moments rather that dominance.
I don't see the players linked as strengthening our squad as he says but merely bolstering it!
What we need on our budget is some great scouts that can unearth more gems in the way Spanish clubs seem to!

Suprised he didn't go after Darren Bent after the cleverly signing. I like to read who we are linked with and who other teams are too and when players like Konoplyanka and Ayew are mentioned as possibly signing for Stoke and West Ham it really pees me off! Cleverly will offer nothing better than what we have as he is a backwards sideways player, that coming from a villa season ticket holder who was made up he chose us. Wereas both Konoplyanka and Ayew can offer pace going forward. Its clear to me we are in decline and will be back as mid table at best Walter Smith era all over again. If the waiter says he has a plan and Tom Cleverly was the beginning of this wonderful plan I am dreading next season already.

{Ed025's Note - konoplyanka looks like he is going to seville gray..

Do you remember when Coleman came on the scene? How he had a brilliant first full season, and we all said we got ourselves a bargain. Then along came his second season, amd he was to put it lightly, atrocious. And we wanted shot of him asap. But now look at him. A decent play if i'm not wrong. And our fist choice RB.

Perhaps Barkley is going through a similar process. 1st full season was decent. Nothin spectacular, but he held his own. But imagine being 20 years old and having just 1 full season under your belt in your entire career. Then going into the 2nd season not fully fit. Its going to hamper your game surely.

Imo ross needs to keep his head down and kick on. Perhaps this season was a blessing, as maybe it stopped him getting his head up his own arse and beleiving his own hype. Imma judge him at the end of next season, because that's was he deserves.

I agree we need to be patient but he also needs to deliver. I like Ross as a person and his attitude at the club is first class. He's more of a Oviedo, Osman type of character than Mirallas or Lukaku and thinks about the club rather than themselves.

The manager hasn't helped in playing him in different positions but also we are not used to seeing this type of player at Everton.

If you look at a Hazard, Messi, Neymar, Ronoldo, Robben and any of this type of attacking player(I mention these not as a comparison in ability Swan but in attacking position) they don't do a lot during a game except find space and stay in it. They walk about a lot and don't do much BUT when they get the ball and the situation is right they explode into action and make something happen.

This is what Ross should be doing but we start getting on his back during games and he starts chasing everything down or trying too much because he knows the boo's are coming. He hasn't lived with the pressure this season but a break will help.

What amazes me is that Mirallas loses the ball just as much and not from trying to pass to a team mate but from running into brick walls and because he scores a few selfish goals, he gets the applause. If I was Lukaku I'd be miserable every-time he's on the pitch because he never crosses or passes unless it is to his advantage.

Now, I'm not having a go at Lennon because he put in a good shift when on the pitch but aside from two goals and winning a penalty does anyone remember anything memorable from him during a match OTHER than tracking back and winning a couple of tackles? I suspect not.

That's the problem with all of us Blues. That's what we remember. Not the good football or killer pass in a bad game to get a goal(I'm not saying we've had any of that this season) but rather somebody winning a tackle.

As I said at the start Ross needs and must deliver next season. This will be his 3rd season and a big one for him but we must also understand he isn't going to win a lot of tackles and do a lot of chasing. He may though make 2, 3 or 4 great passes that create chances and start a few good passages of attacking play that will result in a goal. After all that's what his job is.

but mirallas scores and assists, barkley does not. lennon offers a lot of pace and work rate out wide which we need. I know he does not score or assist a lot but he opens up space and his pace starts attacks, not to mention his ability to link up with other players.

Wrong Swan. He only has one assist all season. As for Lennon if you have a winger that is supposed to create assists for your striker that is what he has to do. What is the use in running and being industrious if there is no end product. 0 assists. His two he got were at spurs.

You're my example to perfection.
