Use our rumours form to send us everton transfer rumours.

well at least last night wasnt a defeat and hopefully we start to pick up form now, it wasnt a great perferomance but a lot better than what we have seen since the southampton game, i'm hoping now to see a settles back 4 (coleman, jags, stones, baines) and if coleman isn't in for the fight then let him go and play browning there, osman can't return quick enough for me, I personally think we are a lot better with him in the team and mcarthy is a big miss too but no point rushing him back if he is not 100% or he will break down again. lukaku showed what potential he has last night with some good hold up play, strength, dribbling, pace and it was probably his best performance of the season, let's all stick together blues.

{Ed025's Note - good and fair post that rob..

I agree Rob. Seamus has looked decidedly dodgy of late. If this is down to supposed interest from the Mancs which has turned his head, then bring in Browning who has already shown the potential to be more than an adequate replacement.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Seamus is suffering from not having a recognised wideman in front of him with Mirralas being preferred on the left we need to get back to having two wingers or one and osman

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jan 2015 23:47:06
I agree with Quinny here, I think it is a bit unfair to single out one player when the entire team has been under performing for the majority of the season. Both our full backs have not been given the freedom they enjoyed last season by opposing teams this year, which has impacted on them being able to get to the by line. Couple that with playing others in RM who don't usually play in that position and I think that is the answer as to why. Let's hope every one of them starts to perform as from now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rob2306, at last someone agrees with me about Osman. Did you see my posts earlier about how many games we have won or lost without him? We have only won 1 game when he has not played yet won 6 with him playing. And only lost 1 when he has played. I firmly believe players like Coleman can only make their overlapping runs when they have a good link player. We are suffering because lack of Osman and Pienaar.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - jeeeeze...get a room with ossie degsy.. :)

08 Jan 2015 12:08:45
Degsy, what you've posted about Osman I cannot disagree with mate. Stats don't lie. But I'm more concerned that we are pinning our recovery from this slump on him.

If that stat wasn't around then most wouldn't be all that bothered that he's out injured in the first place.

I'd like to see some fresh faces brought in, maybe an experienced keeper ala Nigel Martin who saved us a few years back when he came in in the January window. And a quick passing midfielder ala Arteta who also came in during the January window.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree degs, plus he's a true blue, shows passion when others lack it.

Agree0 Disagree0

It is all to do with the change of tactics. Having wingers who want to run at full backs rather than play one twos with their full backs getting them overlapping. McGeady just does not do it. likewise, when we play Barkley, Eto or Naismith in that position, then there are no overlapping runs from the full back. It's the same on the left with no Pienaar. A different style of play. Perhaps we will see some improvements once RM has sorted it?

I think Barry is passed it now, just picking up easy money. Iheard we are paying him 75 grand a week. Time to move him on.

I think the MLS is calling

hi fellow blues looked much better last night. just want to share text my mate sent me( SO STEVEN GERRARDS BIRTHDAY FALLS ON FA CUP FINAL DAY. WHAT A CRACKING SEND OFF IT WOULD BE IF SOMEONE COULD GET HIM A TICKET.) that was sent to me by my red mate before all the reds start shouting

Distin and Alcaraz are out of contract in the summer and I don't think they deserve a new contract. I think we need to go all out to get Winston Ried and Fabian Schaar they would bring down the average squad age and improve like for like quality as well as being more comfortable in our system. Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - my problem quinny, is that these issues need sorting NOW, it is no use waiting until the end of the season because the way things are going we could be in the championship!, you may think thats over reacting mate but we are 4 points off relegation, and have a hard run of games coming up, and once you are down there, getting out is very difficult, especially with players who dont appear to be giving their all...which we have in abundance..

Agree that Distin and Alcaraz should be let go and both Ried and Schaar would be good replacements. However without being a purveyor of doom, I have to agree with Ed025 the here and now are the concern. Whatever is going on behind the scenes (and it has to be that as this is still the same squad that did so well last season) has to be sorted out and quickly as we are in danger of going down. The consequences of that is a disaster I don't even want to think about.

Agree0 Disagree0

We need impact players now but that doesn't mean we can stop planning ahead as then we'll be in this position every year. At least last night was marginally better than recent performances.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - the last 20 minutes were quinny, but why do they not play with that intensity from the start?..some of the players are acting the goat mate..

Judging by jags and luks reaction and demeanour during the interview after the match there has to be something going on.

Agree0 Disagree0

Beside the weak uncertain defence it was clear last night we need to get back to having 2 wingers linking with the full backs. As soon as Martinese brought on Eto for Miralas indicating attacking down the middle big sam brought on an extra midfielder to clog the middle. The last gasp move of bringing on the inconsistant Mcgeedy brought the goal as he linked with Oviedo to get a cross in from the byline. Injuries have made selection difficult but questions remain about Martinese tactics and formations

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not so much questions as bewilderment.

If I had my way, and we had about 15 Mill to spare:

Mattia Perrin - I watch a lot of Serie A, and I must say this guy has been on some form. Very solid young Goalie. - 6Mill

Winston Reid - out of contract in the summer, maybe not our saviour and answer to our prayers, but I reckon he's much better than Alcaraz and Distin, and has got a lot more confidence in him than Jags- 9 Million

Muhammad Salah- better than Atsu, and too good to be sitting on the bench. - loan in exchange for Atsu.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Reid 9 million even though he is going to be free in the summer? 3 million tops or would go for van diek of Celtic.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jan 2015 14:13:47
Why spend 9m on a pretty poor winston reid when we can get a pretty poor winston reid for free?. Perin would cost more than 6m as plenty of clubs want him, salah is going on loan to qpr or someone I believe.

Winston reid didn't look pretty poor last night in fact he looked very good. I'd take him and kjaer one now and one in the summer.

Good to see some positive posts, I have liked degsypulfords comments in the past when supporting moyes as I have had disagreements in the past with fellow blues in the ground just moaning. Honest blue made valid points and living up to his name, not everything is rosy when seeing Rom and jags body language in interview after game and believe Colemans head has been turned for a move to the mancs. The good thing about last night though is the players put the effort in and showed some passion and when the crowd got behind them it was clear we put west ham under pressure, we still look nervous due to lack if confidence but that will come back I was concerned that Roberto had lost the dressing room but seen the desire last night. Maybe man city game is exactly what we need, going into a game as underdogs pressure off, crowd behind us then that could kick start our season. I know Roberto has/is making mistakes and needs to play with wingers, Naismith & Barkley can't play together in current system unless Barkley plays as one of the mc. It is easier to criticise than to give support at a time of need to pick the players up. I am not saying supporters aren't entitled to their opinion when paying hundreds/thousands of pounds to follow everton but constructive criticism at the right time to many football supporters and chairmen are fickle today and need to SUPPORT the team.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thanks for the support of my posts Robbie. I will again add the Leon Osman bit. I know I keep repeating myself, but this is yet another winless game (although I agree we played much better) without Osman. His record just keeps looking better and better the more games we play. He has played 9 won 6 drew 2 and lost 1. Without him we have played 16 drew 7 won 1 and lost 8. Those sort of stats speak for themselves. Everyone keeps questioning my sanity to come up with them, but they keep on showing that the team is more successful with Leon Osman in it. by a mile!!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Last night was better than the previous weeks but still not good enough. Three glaring weaknesses that only RM can't see. 1. The keeper/centre half relationship is shot. No-one is in command and the hesitancy at corners and free kicks has lead to numerous goals and losses. cheque book time. 2. The use of two deep midfielders is neither shoring up a leaky defence nor giving us the platform to build attacks from - our possession and ball retention all takes place on the edge of our box not in the opposition half and means naismith, etoo and others have to drop deep to fetch it, leaving lukaku on his own up top, man marked with his back to goal. 3. As a consequence of 2 and to some extent 1, we have no leaders in midfield - Barkley needs to learn his trade quickly -pass and move makes great centre midfielders -McCarthy is our best player but wasted that deep, Naismith fills the role because no-one else will but its not his real job. Solutions? change the line up, move to 3-4-1-2 with Coleman and Baines flanking Besic and McCarthy infront of stones, jags, distin (though replacing the last two should be considered) - ask Naismith or Barkley to play in the link behind Lukaku and Etoo (though I think Mirrales may be a better choice up front. and move the ball forward quickly, to feet and into space behind defenders. COYB

Great post Robbie. Agree that the man city game has come at the right time, no pressure and if we can come out of it with something then should hopefully pick up some confidence.

Stop blanking me degsy ffs!! Who is better cesc fabregas or leon osman and who is a better manager jose mourinho or david moyes. do you think leon osman is world class?, 3 questions with obvious factual answers, come on degsy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nyblue. I would buy that, although Seamus needs to be part of the solution. Watching him last night looked as if his head is elsewhere. Where Luke Garbutt is the the likely successor for Baines, who is is able to replace Coleman if he moves this month? We've already been caught out at RB before Christmas when Tony Hibbert proved that the years have caught up with him.

{Ed025's Note - im not tonys biggest fan at all davey, but when he has played he has not let us down mate...give me a lesser light who tries before a prima-donna who believes he,s too good for the club fella..

Sorry Swan mate. I didn't know I was blanking you. Answers to your questions: Cesc Fabregas. Morinho. No.

But I ask you how many games have we won without Leon Osman in the team this season? Answer = 1. How many have we won with him in the team? answer = 6. Cheers Swan.

You know what, i'm done, i'm actually not going to reply to another post from degsy unless its about something other than moyes or osman (unlikely). I will only bother if he says something really irritating like osman being better than scholes or moyes being our greatest ever manager etc. or its something about everton. Phew.

Agree0 Disagree0

Calm down Swan. We both have opinions. But you seem to take what I say and exaggerate it somewhat. I understand my opinion is different to yours on this. I accept that. But I will still have my opinion. I also have other posts on this site now supporting my wish for Osman to return. In my opinion Coleman is suffering without him in the same way as Baines is suffering without Pienaar. Both little link up players who have a desire to bring others into play and speed things up. Something that we are sadly missing throughout the team right now. I do agree with you that there are better players in our sqad and all around. But I do feel we need round pins in round holes. eg What is the point of playing Eto'o, Barkley or Naismith in this position wide right? None of these can play it as well as Osman. It unbalances the team. I would also say similar has happened on the left. We badly miss Pienaar but I understand he has not played up to scratch lately and we just have to get Mirrallas in the team. Keep calm mate. We are all in this together.

Apologies in advance for the long message but have sat back and read messages on this site for a long time.
I will firstly say that I do think Martinez has and is making some big errors. Everybody can see that we need to mix up our play and still playing players out of postition is unforgivable. Does seem like that something behind the scenes has gone wrong as well.
What I can not stand though is people now saying "I said from the start that he would get us relegated etc" 6 months ago everybody was on here saying he is the best manager we have ever had and how much better it is now that we try and win games oppose to what we were under Moyes.
Some posts saying that would happily have Moyes back, I agree when it comes buying a player on a budget then he's your man but please.the football under him was so negative. Go 1 nil up, defend for the next 70 mins and take off all atacking players for the last 20 and end up trying to cling onto a draw.
The premiership this season is also the most competative I have ever seen it, I really don't think Moyes would be doing much better.
I live in Bristol so don't get to the ground half as much as I would like, and applaud all the fans on here that do go week in week out and with paying that stupid amount tickets cost these days you are entilted to moan with what we are seeing at the moment but I do feel that the groaning after 5 mins into the game is a bit much and you can tell the players are so nervous of making a mistake it is making them make them even more. And I do watch every Everton game and have a unhealthy obsession of reading up on them for hours in a day but just can't make the games for finacial/travel reasons.
So all I would say lads is get behined the team, I am confident that Martinez will turn things around and we will be prasing him again by the end of the season.

{Ed025's Note - good post that mate..

Whether it was a good result or not, overall I think we played miles better than we have been recently. By no means did we play particularly good but there was some good signs. Firstly, I don't know what happened to Lukaku but he was a completely different player. Firstly, his first touch was actually good, he had a few good dribbles and was shooting on sight. Although a few of his shots were awful, that will come if he keeps doing it. Barkley looked better for me and, although he did loose it a couple of times, it was not as often as it has been. Seeing Stones back on the pitch will always make it look better. Plus, Besic is coming along nicely which hopefully will mean that Barry is put on the bench (in another stadium would be nice) once Mc gets back. If we were playing a poor team on the weekend I would say that his could actually be a turning point, however we will need to really turn it up to get anything.

Why is everyone saying Robles played well? Of 15 corners he came to claim 0. He punched 0. He made 3 saves that were all straight at him. However any keeper unable to claim a single cross or corner when there were so many is simply not good enough.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Jan 2015 08:41:16
Yes but most of the corners were aimed at the 18 yard line where you don't want to see a keeper come out for it. You fail to mention the 3 or 4 he come out and caught from free kicks that were put into a place that you would want a keeper to come out and claim. I am not by any means saying he is better than Howard but last night he came off his line better than Howard does and his kicking was far better. Just give the guy some credit that he had a good game and not have a negative view on him because his past performances.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - one swallow doth not a summer make...but credit where its due, he done well last night..

Other than the first five minutes or so where he looked very shaky, I thought he looked much more confident and made some good saves. Still needs far more work on catching or punching properly at corners and even more on actually kicking it to his own players though! I would say he went from very very bad to just very bad last night! We defo need a new keeper though, we have two clowns.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree Ed, still no confident in him but just don't like the negative comments on him last night when he didn't do much wrong. I would hope Martinez can find a Begovic type keeper who we can get on a budget but is solid.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - that would be my hope too mate..

Correct me if i'm wrong but after howard hasn't begovic made the most mistakes in the league?

You know, the more I think about last nights game, the more worried I'm becoming. if they'd of had Song, Sakho & Carroll playing I'm sure we'd of been stuffed.there needs to be big change - Bobbys way is no longer working. We need a different system, more solidity, a more balanced game style & plan, new younger defenders, other new players to replace 1s to be shipped out as they r simply no longer good enough I.e. - mcgeady, Alcaraz, distin, Pienaar, Atsu, Barry. even Jags ain't looking much cop anymore either so maybe a new captain too - hello Mr McCarthy? & an experienced & proven new manager!

You want an experienced and proven manager but want ronald koeman? Makes no sense

Agree0 Disagree0

Roberto said we need to get back to basics and while the Team played better last night (mainly because for a couple of minutes in patches, we moved the ball more quickly and more directly) there was no sign that back to basics had even been addressed. Every coach and manager knows that to be successful you have to build (strengthen) from the back, every manager and coach that is except Roberto or at least that is the impression watching the dramatic drop in form of Jags and Coleman, Distin I will put down to legs gone.

Just thought I'd put my own two cents in. I'm going to focus on the pros rather than the cons because everyone else has covered those three times over.
1. I'd appreciate it if people would stop blaming rom because he's giving effort and showing heart. He deserved his goal and coulda got another.
2. Youngsters are still performing well for me. IE besic and stones. They still have their heads about and seem calm and collected on the ball. Doesn't help that Barry and whatever center back partner are the opposite.
3. Robles looked a natural for me. At least tonight. Still not sure but perhaps a new goalie could wait until the summer, just a thought.
4. Team looked a bit more confident tonight, moved the ball forward a bit quicker. A bit better. A bit.
5. At the very least the team showed no small amount of heart today. Last four we were floundering in the final fifteen. Today we were all over them at the end. Promising at least?
All in all defending on corners still shocking and many times the passing in midfield was awkward.
Ultimately I choose the focus on the improvement today but that's just my humble opinion. I recognize that it still wasn't very good but I see this as a baby step in the right direction.

i agree fully , robles didn't do much wrong last night , the back line is what's wrong and gareth barry
coleman jags form is dreadful , distin is gone am sorry as much as a love the big man he's had it , even baines has been poor although didn't play ad like to see this team when all fit

robles
coleman besic stones garbutt
mccarthy baines
mirallas barkley naismith
lukaku

garbutt is going to be excellent and a fesr if we don't play him he's off for free and someone will have a bargain

a think we can write the league off this season we will be ok , focus on winning europa and getting into champions league , this summer will be massive in terms of where we go
