A lot of talk about needing a new striker next season, and maybe we do. But if we can get Zouma and Gomes tied down and nobody else I would be happy.
Get them two and keep Gana. Those three are essential to this side.

Gomes has to be the priority. We aren't going to get a player of his class for the 30 million Barcelona want for him.
Bernard has to be the buy of the season. Free transfer! He is such a class player, one that we haven't seen at Everton for quite a few years.

07 Apr 2019 19:18:47
Depends if there is a buy clause in his loan deal. Gomes recent form added to that when he arrived may mean Barcelona wanting a great deal more than 30, especially as a few other top sides are sniffing.

People still talking about signing a striker. Calvert - Lewin was man of the match today. as per Sky and me! The reason we have strung together a few decent results is because we have obviously worked on our defending and particularly at set pieces. DCL will be a great player and is just starting to mature. Bernard and Richarlison work so much better than any of our other wide pairings. But like I keep saying, we need clean sheets and we are starting to get them. and results then follow. Even if we have no decent center forward we will pick up results. There seems to be an obsession about it. but give DCL a few games to prove himself. He was awesome today.

See what you are saying Degsy mate DCL was great, but in my view we just need a proven striker to put some of the so many chances we had to kill the game off,11 good chances we had in that game this afternoon says it all.

Agree2 Disagree0

07 Apr 2019 17:13:15
I feel slightly sorry for dcl really. I think he is a good striker, played in the right way, but not sure if he can be OUR out and out, number 1 striker if we have big ambitions.

07 Apr 2019 17:55:09
Agree mate he is good but not Richarlison? he needs to man up and stop crying every five min, but we need a goal poacher? DCL not that yet.

07 Apr 2019 18:02:38
Would be interesting to see what he would be like with another decent striker up there with him. Oh for Sharpe and Gray.

Bernard man of the match for me. The lad is a class act.
DCL is improving but if we want to reassert ourselves as the 7th best team and even challenge the top 6 we need a Lacazette or Aubameyang type striker.
It should have been 3 or 4 today.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Apr 2019 18:43:23
Guernsey we had all them chances fall to siggy richarlison and Bernard because of the work lewin did, without him today we dnt have anywhere near the chances we had.

I agree johny mate DCL man of the match.

07 Apr 2019 19:14:29
If we could get a target man then maybe some of those chances would go in the back of the net, we are getting so close to being top 6 side.

So are the likes of Wolves in particular GB. At the moment we need to establish ourselves as best of the rest and that realistically is cementing 7th as our right (Moyes) . We have bought and supposedly have a better Squad than last Season, so isn't it reasonable to expect that we at least finish 8th (after all Alardyce was so hopeless) . Not wishing an argument, we just need a touch of reality. As for DCL, give the lad some meat and he will be another Sharp.

DCL is going to be a brilliant striker. His attitude is spot on and his development is well on track. It’s very rare to get the finished article at his age. If we could just be patient then we will have a striker to be proud of.

I love the guy. His ability to hold up the ball makes Lukaku look like an amateur. Yet we crave a replacement but we all bemoaned his poor touch.

We will have our reward as I’m certain this boy will get better with both his accuracy and his decision making. He’s not that far away now tbf.

He has been excellent since he has been first choice up top. This can only get better.

Toffee Ace, hopefully DCL comes good but we still need either a replacement or competition for him.

BCT. forget about Allardyce. What we are watching is a million miles away from the tripe Allardyce produced. We are a force again.
Allardyce had Burnley and Leicester to fight off, this season is different with 3 other teams spending north of 100million. Whether we finish 8th or not we have improved.

These last few weeks should be the end of any Allardyce talk. Let's just sweep the embarrassment of having the crook as manager under the carpet.

What Silva has shown is that sticking with his defensive training means any defender can bow step in and be as effective.

Lee1616, Man Up, are you for real. The lad is 22, aggressive as a lion, speed to dream of and the punishment he takes and gets up again jeez. Couple that with his coming back to pick up, lay offs etc! With the team coming together (Silva not chopping and changing) , the lad was MoM today.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Apr 2019 22:33:53
Toffeace has it right. He is not the finished article yet and whilst he needs to develop his finishing, he is not missing sitters. its about learning to get in positions. he has improved no end and physically is looking better and better. Remember he is 22. that's 10 more seasons with luck. If he continues at his current rate of improvement he will be a great player. Give him a chance guys. Believe me he can and will improve. At 25 you can judge him. He is dead on progress.

07 Apr 2019 23:00:05
DCL can and will become a very good target man that we all crave, what he needs is a clever number 10 to pick up the space that's left open by his movement that brings defenders with him. Once we get the midfield runners we will finish the chances we created today. As other posters have stated he is 22 and this is his first real run in the side, Harry Kane had a few seasons in lower leagues before his breakthrough, DCL hasn't had that he was picked up without the real experience. Yes we need a striker but to complement his game not to hinder his progress.

What am abdolute pleasure it was watching that, the way every player fought for the ball, the urgency levels were 100% from the off, and we completely out played arsenal there . Although calvert lewin doesn't score much he offers a lot in that team recently, snd bernards work rate is superb . Happy blue today.

This was our best performance since the Moyes years. The whole team playing as one, winning the second balls and nullifying the higher skill levels of the opposition, this was exiting.
Have to agree with so many comments so many great displays for 90 mins.
It was nice to see defenders booting the ball away instead of trying to be clever and giving the ball away. There are times for pretty football but we do not have the skill levels of some sides in this league, the influence of Jags was there for all to see, great display from him. Did Coleman play better without being captain?
If we continue like this then Silva can stay with my blessing, I hope today was a new beginning although it started in the second half against Chelsea.

Think our best was West Ham DC, this came a close second. This is like the 80's and latterly Royle to be fair, that Kendal Team didn't give Teams a rest, doubling up in the tackle at every opportunity. Lately we have discovered some of that era. Defence for me still gets caught out to easily.

Hey DarkClouds, its nice to see your new positive response. Welcome to being on this side of things again. Sometimes its tough being Blue. But right now we are starting to see progress and a plan coming together. I don't know if Silva will get to sign Zouma, Gomez or any other class players? But I know that if he continues as well as his first season in signing quality and motivating the players, he will do ok. Yes there was a defensive blip whereby we seemed to not be able to keep a clean sheet. but now that has been sorted (I hope) , we seem to look like a team again.

So what the people calling for an out and out striker are saying is he would have been in the same scoring positions as Sigurdsson, Richarlison and Bernard!
Get real and give DCL the credit he deserves.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Apr 2019 18:33:05
I think what they are saying Fancy, is an out and out striker would have scored more than DCL with the same chances. And I cannot disagree with that.
It is the part of his game he needs to improve on. He has massively improves under Silva and if he can take that next step next season then we are going to have one really good striker next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Apr 2019 19:40:35
If you analyse the game and the scoring chances created DCL did not have any of the clear cut chances that Richarlison, Sigurdsson or Bernard, had but put his head on the line which resulted in Jags goal.
Also his pressing, hold up play, pace and aerial threat not only brought the midfield, as well as the wiremen, into play but put pressure on Arsenal’s defenders throughout the game.
He will certainly get the goals his play deserves but lest we forget his return this season is one in every two games played. Considering the teams he has faced since getting regular start time the boy has performed exceptionally well and is a major factor in our improved form.
He is far better than Kane at this stage of his career and will only get better with improved confidence gained from regular game time.

{Ed025's Note - im with you there fancy..

07 Apr 2019 20:14:51
He played against two experienced defenders and both of them were booked because he worried them the whole game. This allowed others to get into scoring positions. For a kid of 22 that's quite impressive.

If you look at it as one game then you are correct. Look at it as a bigger picture and I stick by what I say.

DCL needs to improve as our no9 if we are to challenge the top 6, and that is a fact.

A 'comprehensive' win against a top 4 contender. 3rd win in a row. 3rd clean sheet in a row. It's time for the doubters to at least admit there's some promise being shown by this team and its manager.

Just seen the Calvert-Lewin interview on sky. If this guy can keep improving and obviously become more clinical then we will have one of the best strikers in the premier league. We will need to be careful with our summer window, that we don't make any signings that could stifle this.

I think we have a real winner in at our club in this guy.

He has improved a fair bit this season tbf but I still don’t think he is quite there yet to be are starting no9.

You have to ask yourself would he start for any of the top 6? . His lack of natural goal scoring ability/ strikers intuition is also slightly worrying as it’s generally something you have or you don’t.

Agree 100%. To be fair he is linking so well with our midfield and helping set up chances for them that I will forgive him for any minor inadequacies at the moment. Like I said, he is 22 and standing up against international mature center halves every game. It is no surprise to me that Tosun is on the bench and Niasse out on loan. I see a bright future there if he continues to improve the way he has so far. And yes the Richarlison/ Bernard wide pair is the best we have by far. Offensively and defensively.
