See in the press about Lukaku happy to get extra training from Dunc and how he is learning a lot. I was hoping that for 28 Million we were getting someone who knew a lot already. think he still has issues with his hold up play and with his back to goal. I'm sure he will improve but it is a lot of cash for a developing player.

Course it is, he will be worth more when he reaches his potential, when chelsea paid 32m for hazard did they expect a 32m player instantly? Did psg with lucas moura? Or dortmund when they purchased mathias ginter? that's how it works mate, young players learn and get better, players don't start their prime at 16 and finish at 34, it takes time Abd effort to reach it, which he will

He's only 21 mate.
Has a big future, and will be worth a lot more than what we paid for him. I would be more concerned about the lack of service he gets if I were you.

Swan: Distin retire now? Do you really mean that even though we're without Stones and Alcaraz for a while yet, and Browning hasn't played yet as a first-team centre-back, and our other U-21 and U-18 centre-backs are clearly not ready yet, and the likes of Barry and Hibbert are emergency centre-backs at best imho.
I've no doubt that Jagielka, Stones, Browning and Galloway will soon be the four centre-backs in our first-team squad - and then it's just a question of when Jagielka is eventually replaced in the squad and by whom. Will another club-trained youngster emerge or will RM enter the transfer market? The problem as I see it is that most of the wealthy (Champions League) clubs - especially the English ones - are all in need (immediately or in the next season or two) of new top-class centre-backs and we just aren't operating at that top-end of the transfer market. Let's hope that RM can unearth a hidden gem (another John Stones would be nice!) from somewhere ;-)

I imagine that Lukaku couldn't wish for much better than Duncan Ferguson and Samuel Eto'o as mentors to learn about all aspects of centre-forward play. Imagine that: a centre-forward who was a combination of Ferguson and Eto'o at their peaks!

What does Bobby mean when he says Distin either plays or is not in the squad and watches from the stands? Sounds like it's some sort of ultimatum to Distin to me. it would seem that RM is saying he has to start tomorrow and for the foreseeable.

I wouldn't mind if he retired now tbh

Whether you like him or not Swan, and it is clear from this and previous comments that you don't have any time for him, he will be needed due to the current injury situation. As I've said, he didn't become a bad player over night, he can regain form like the others have from a shaky start. He is needed at the moment and that is why we have squad players

Yeah youve got me there, but he is overreliant on his pace, which he no longer has, so for me he's done, suppose someone has to make up the numbers :(

I trust that tomorrow's game will be incident free off the pitch before and afterwards. The problems encountered two week's ago were nothing to do with the French fans who'll be arriving tonight and tomorrow. I just hope no Evertonians will go 'looking for revenge' and besmirch the good name of our club. Similarly the Merseyside Rozzers can show their French counterparts how it should be done without having to resort to tear gas and plastic bullets.

Well said, Daveyboy Blue.
I bet the gutless journos in the British media are just drooling in anticipation of writing exaggerated rubbish and downright lies about our club and fans whatever actually happens.

Team for tomorrow lads? i'd personally go
Howard
Coleman browning jagielka oviedo(if not ready then garbutt)
Besic mccarthy
Pienaar eto'o atsu
Lukaku

That team looks decent but can just see distan coming in and hibbert playing RB too.

Whoever RM selects in defence, I'm more concerned about who plays in midfield and attack as I think we're unlikely to keep a clean sheet (I hope I'm wrong!) and we'll have to score a few goals to get a result.

Agree0 Disagree0

Should be playing our best team possible, we win this one then we can relax and not get all worked up about how we play in the remaining games.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Woburn. The starting eleven should be our strongest possible. Qualify top of the group then play weakened sides in the remaining group games.
