Absolutely made up that big Dunc will get at least a game in charge.
He is and always will be my favourite Everton player (well unless we sign someone else who goes around scoring goals and head butting anyone who gets in their way)
Will be interesting to see who is in his starting 11. He always showed courage and fight as a player let's hope he has the conviction to do the same as a manager.

Interesting Smitt, can I ask do you think he warrants this opportunity given he has been round x5 managers and still has not lost his jobs? Is he somehow rightly exempt or are his hands as dirty as the other failures?

Smit if big dunc picked me to play I would play my heart out at the thought of getting his abuse after the game lol.

05 Dec 2019 22:05:41
Or. like Lukaku I would look at him and think. I’ve scored more goals and more premier league than you ever did and I’m 23 years old. ‘Run up my back and go steal a living elsewhere’
By your reckonings Roy Keane, Souness and Mark Hughes would have had the same effect as managers No? .

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Dec 2019 22:07:03
I've said this before Blu. He has been around since the Moyes days so has been there whilst we finished 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th twice so if he is to be held responsible for the two 11th place finishes then he deserves credit for the other finishes.
He is an everton legend and has outlasted 5 managers so he must have something going for him.

Agree2 Disagree0

05 Dec 2019 22:19:36
Sorry Smit, on this we will have to disagree. My Everton legends have won titles and didn’t turn up for just x6 games a season. I respect your opinion my friend and whilst he single handedly scared the living day lights out of Liverpool for a good few seasons I don’t think he was kept on as he is doing something right. It smacks more of Sentimental Bill to me.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Dec 2019 22:25:31
Rubbish. Alex ferguson wasnt a great footballer, Mourinho wasn't even a footballer but were/ are great managers, they won nothing as players. Did the players look at them and say what have you done a s a player? No.
If you think Dunc doesn't deserve to manage us for one game whilst we search for a manager then that is your opinion, although it is based on absolutely no info on what dunc has done in his day to day job for the last 5 managers.
Moshiri has been our owner for the last 4 management failures, do you want him out too on the same thought process?

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Dec 2019 22:44:26
Well there’s one thing is certain, he can’t do any worse.

Agree2 Disagree0

05 Dec 2019 23:02:55
No he does deserve a go, your right for sure. Legend. NO, again my opinion that’s all he played 9 mins in a Cup Final, him, Cahill, Arteta great players but legends nah not for me. (Makes me cringe when they are described as legends as the likes of Southall, Reid et al must be Demi-gods to people who think they are legends.
Do I want Moshiri out, that’s a difficult one for me as the Man pretty much OWNs the club. He is putting the money in (regardless of where it’s coming from) and therefore has the right to do what he wants legally. Dunk is a member of staff on a wage.
Be good if he was a success though of course but I want the whole lot of them gone and a new manager to make huge changes top to bottom to change the culture at my club.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Dec 2019 00:36:19
I don't know why we are wasting our time arguing whether Dunc deserves a game or two in charge.

What matters is that, compared to other sides, Everton have handled this process badly and we look like a bunch of idiots. It's not as if it's our first time at this either

How we think we will better attract top managers after this is beyond me.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Dec 2019 06:05:01
The manager can't change anything Blu. That should be Brands job and that's the model we have chosen.
Our managers are just coaches and are expected to get the team winning, moyes and others would struggle in that model I suspect.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i think so too smit..

06 Dec 2019 07:11:24
100% Smit, that’s where I wonder if we have the ‘model wrong’ but a lot of teams are adopting that approach it seems. Brands role has never been more significant in choosing a successor (if that truly is our model) ? 👍.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Dec 2019 07:18:57
Don't know him personally smit, I hope he inspires. Surprised that the Club appear not to have had someone lined up and instead there is a 4 man short list apparently.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Dec 2019 09:17:09
I'm sorry - he's been with the club for years but what does he actually do?
He's not assistant manager (didn't Sammy Lee take the team when Fat Sam swanned off for the weekend that time) , he hasn't any managerial experience, even at U23 level
Apparently he did some extra training with the forwards - no evidence of any success is there?

Please - someone must know what we have been paying him for all these years other than just drinks boy and club ambassador

I liked him as a player but some of the decisions we are making are, putting it mildly, weird.

Hi Guys and Gals,

I used to post on here a few years back but I can't remember my details. But I'm a daily reader of the site.

I've been checking every hour for news that Silva has been sacked since the Norwich game and can't believe he has lasted this long although I can understand they want someone lined up before they get rid of him.

It looks like Moyes, I'm not particularly happy, I have a real dislike for him after the way he acted and spoke about us when he left but I'll get behind him and despite what people have said on here, he did have us playing some good football. at times.

One thing I remember from Moyes previous stint is the work that they put in ensuring that players were the right fit, and barring a couple of examples (Drenthe springs to mind) he generally got that aspect right, they did play for the shirt. In my opinion we've lost that and really need player who have pride in wearing the shirt. I'm not saying Moyes is the man to bring that back, and it would be interesting to see how he 'works' with Brands, but we need some passion and desire first and foremost

Apologies for the long post
TJ.

05 Dec 2019 20:19:06
Yes welcome back TJ. Fully agree with you too. I honestly don’t mind losing a game of football but when the players cross that line i want to see blood, sweat and tears and plenty of it. Too many players have been hiding and if they haven’t been hiding they’ve been passengers for too long now. Like all of us fans on here I would have given anything to have the talent and honour to play for Everton and it hurts when i don’t see it from this current squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Dec 2019 18:49:37
Although I'm a red I've been sitting in the paddock quite regularly over the last 20 years thanks to my neighbour being a blue. I have to say this is the worst defence I've ever seen. Keane belongs in league 1 with his brother he's a tranmere player at best, Mina should go back To South America as he doesn't seem to understand European football at all. Pickford is too small for a goalkeeper and is mid table quality at best and the lack of a proper cdm to sit and cover the defence is also atrocious. Other than that the attack looks very young and promising so I'd say you should literally rebuild your defence. Good luck I'm one of the few reds that'd be gutted if you lot go down.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

05 Dec 2019 18:59:57
Not a bad summary. Pickford really thinks he is better than he is, the defence and midfield are woeful.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Dec 2019 19:10:05
Can't argue with any of that, lerchy. The club want to stop with stringing out the situation and tell him either to go or, heaven forbid, back him. This waiting around is doing nobody any favours. If he stays then I'd be inclined to agree that they will be in trouble but if they make the change now then they have a chance of saving the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Dec 2019 19:27:28
Agreed lerchy. The 3 centre halves that played last night is the worst performance I’ve ever seen from professional footballers. Long ball over the top, caught out everytime. It was unbelievable to see but now Silva is gone then hopefully we can tighten up. We need someone to replace Gueye asap. McCarthy was the closest we had to Gueye but he’s gone now.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Dec 2019 20:36:55
Silva had to go. Some of his decision making was terrible but I think he was also a bit unlucky. The Club failed to get him an experienced striker and centre half and he has been without Gbamin, Gomes and Delph for most of the season. That midfield would have made a huge difference last night.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Dec 2019 16:44:29
Oh my days telegraph reporting Brands has said Silva needs more time!
Not sure I believe that he’s said that
Only thing Silva needs more time for is to ensure we are relegated.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

05 Dec 2019 17:48:31
If that's true I'm beginning to wonder about his football knowledge.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Dec 2019 17:38:28
I wish they would make their minds up and put Silva and us out of our misery. If Brands is advocating for more time for Silva and we find ourselves in the same league position in January maybe Brands and Silva should both be axed.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - They have made their minds up about Silva.}

05 Dec 2019 18:03:42
And is that to relieve him of his duties Ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - As opposed to what?}

05 Dec 2019 18:22:27
Sorry Ed002. I missed your post on the Rumours page "Silva has gone subject to the settlement being agreed. " All we have to wait for is the announcement of a new manager and from what you say Moyes is the most likely.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - My expectation is the two will not happen at the same time. I would guess that Everton will first say that DF is going to look after the team at the weekend.}

05 Dec 2019 15:24:04
Last nights game might still be a bit raw in the mind but we have to move on from it, no matter how horrible the resulting day has been. That score line hurt more than it should have as, hand on heart, I couldn't see us outscoring a rampant Liverpool team. As it happens, we couldn't outscore their reserve squad either but I suspect we would have struggled against any team they put out, no matter what age group.
All that aside, Silva should've been given his marching orders weeks ago, most of us agree on that. The simple truth of the matter is that losing 9 out of 15 games is relegation form and not good enough for the cash that has been spent by us since FM took over the helm. Nearly 500m spent and all we have to show for it is a spot in the bottom 3. It's actually depressing.
There are reports that FM is on his way/ has arrived at Finch Farm and I can only live in hope that they are correct. Silva needs to be put out of his misery but the board have also got to get their act together, none of this was on the Moshiri blue-print when he first came waltzing through Walton. Another bad managerial appointment and there's a possibility the fan base will turn on him. It really is a horrible day!

I don't particularly want Moyes back as our manager as it doesn't show any progression but in all honesty can any of us say that we've progressed in the 6 years since he's left? If it was a short term deal until the end of the season then I could probably get on board with it.

My concern would be that we take another up and coming manager and it doesn't work again and we are left in the same situation as now but closer to the end of the season with not enough time to turn things round.

Silva seems like a really nice guy but it's just not worked for him at Everton. I don't think he's had a great deal of luck but I also don't think he's settled on the right team or formation. It must be difficult though having to deal with players from 4 different managers!

All I hope now from this season is that we get out the mess we're in and then we can hope to get the right appointment to move us forward. The league is such that 2 or 3 wins can see us in the top 10.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

05 Dec 2019 14:30:07
Whether it's signing players, sacking managers, getting a new stadium, or renewing contracts - there is one thing for sure - Everton will take weeks and weeks with poor communication to get anything done.
Everyone knows he is getting sacked - everyone knows Moyes will be coming in as short term - not everyone's cup of tea but it's going to happen.
For God sake EFC - just get on and do it!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

05 Dec 2019 17:37:45
What surprises me is the way they have communicated and the ongoing new stadium business has been first class, so how on earth can it be a shamble getting it right on the pitch, management is all about putting the right people in the right place.
let Brands get on with running the football club let him bring in the person he wants, this is what he does as a job and what we wanted him for.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Dec 2019 13:32:33
Moyes and Tim Cahill have been mentioned as short term if Marco goes, we can all wish who we would prefer as a New Manager but at the end of the day none of us know, but we really need this sorted asap.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

05 Dec 2019 14:27:59
Really do not want Moyes back, he was awful once he left us, if he was such a good manager, he would still be in a job. I will not waste my time going to watch him in charge again. Its a backwards step, we need to find a decent manager to take the reins.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Dec 2019 16:37:08
I am with you on that mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Dec 2019 18:17:45
I’m not. I’m sorry but how can bringing Moyes back be a backwards step, we’re in the bottom 3 for Christ sake. Yes when he left us he was trying to buy the players HE brought to Everton and for not enough money but I remember him saying when he left that he felt he couldn’t take us any further with the resources available (at the time) . A lot of managers go to different clubs and try to sign the players they signed beforehand, I don’t get it. I’ve been an Evertonian since before the 1995 fa cup final and since then the best I’ve seen us play was under his management. We can’t be picky now. It’s my own opinion but I say bring him back asap with Tim as his assistant. It will be a massive step up on what we have now. Marco Silva is a fraud.

Agree2 Disagree0

05 Dec 2019 21:32:45
I agree with you there dog puke Peter. We've been going steadily downhill since Moyes left. I agree with what other have said in that the league is more competitive so we won't be challenging top 6 with Moyes. But right now we need to sort the defence and get 40 points I think Moyes is the man to do that. Then re access in June.

I was the one saying don't get moyes it shows we are going backwards but the truth is i think we need him at the moment in time this team are not doing the basics right example: tracking back,3 yard passes, work rate, simple defending, hold up play
Its basic football and i think moyes will get this back into team. After that shambles last night forget about top managers because we will not attract one moyes is the best option atm get this team fighting and get the basics back the players should be ashamed of them selves and the boys at the top board owner an bill should take a long hard look at t he m selves this is mot good enough poor appointment and poor advice something stinks at the club and it needs a breath fresh air and change.

Marco silva might not be the right man for Everton but I've said it before as long as our spine consists of Pickford, Keane, schneiderlin, Siggy and DCL, no manager will succeed.
Keane, schneiderlin and Siggy being the worst culprits. They go hiding and I've lost count of how many goals keane and schneiderlin have cost us this season.
Iwobi and Tom had poor games but at least they wanted the ball.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

05 Dec 2019 11:22:57
Agree with you the spine of the team is not there, Keane was atrocious last night and Sigurdsson anonymous, Pickford maybe could have done better for a couple of the goals also.
How he continues to pick them baffles me, these youngsters that are in the under 23s and are supposedly highly thought of must be so frustrated to see the same dross being picked week in week out while they don’t get a look in.
If we’re not careful it won’t only be the first team that will need rebuilding it’ll be the under 23s also.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Dec 2019 12:23:41
Exactly Smit, I know we have had a lot of injured players so Silva has had problems with who he can select but his reliance on Schneiderlin, Siggy and Keane have cost him his job, they should have been dumped and replacements brought in over the last few windows. We have to fire Silva immediately and get in someone who can identify and recruit replacements this January window, God knows who this will be.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Dec 2019 12:46:25
Still believe the players are not good enough, I would put them all up for sale with the exception of Richarlison and Digne the rest are not up to the job, I would be surprised if they would be wanted by any other Premiership Club.

Everton fc are normally a class club when it comes to supporting people charity and local issues, let’s hope this is the case with Silva, if he’s going let it be with dignity and not drag it out with him being the scapegoat that fans vent their displeasure at on the weekend!
Although he’s still paid to do the job and its obviously not working then put him out of his misery as he cannot change things round at this late stage!

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Dec 2019 15:29:29
think we were very lucky not to concede more than the 5 last night they hit are right side with 40 50 yard passes think marco has to go think he's lost players confidence just look like he was lost on sidelines as for new manager i have no idea but just hope whoever it is all of us have got to get behind him and make goodison park a place were away teams struggle to play and start picking up points.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Dec 2019 10:41:21
Does anybody know if we are simply looking for a temporary manager to save us from relegation, or would the appointment be offered a long term opportunity?
Moyes coming back would depress out of me, the way he treated us was unforgivable! But if its purely 6 months only and it saves us then i can get on board and support him through gritted teeth.

One thing i would find interesting to know also. Would people here rather take another 6 months of Big Scam and his soul destroying football but have a chance to move up the table, or stick with Silva in the blind hope he somehow turned things around? Both options suck i know. Its like asking if you'd rather cut off a hand or a foot.

Sam plays awful football and makes no excuses, he does exactly what it says on the can. He was brought in to early seasom before last. This Season the Board have left it to late but it is precisely the position Alardyce is usually hired for. No I am not sure Moyes is the right man, would have Benitez but not available till January.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Dec 2019 14:51:39
Right up until yesterday, I still had a glimmer of belief that we could turn this around. Even in our worst seasons we almost always put up a brave spirited fight against Liverpool. We lose, but we fight. With the exception of Richarlison yesterday we had no fight, no spirit and that glimmer of belief was thoroughly stamped on.

So yes right now I would take Sam, Moyes (but not Hughes) or anyone else as long as it isn't Silva.

Get the feeling that if Moyes gets the job then bringing Cahill in is the clubs way of deflecting criticism away from their decision. Like punching you in the face, then giving you a tissue to wipe your nose.
Seen some crap times at this club, but that was when we had no money. No excuses now.

Said it at the start of the season and got slated for it we would struggle to be in the top 10 by xmas, we are a laughing stock from top to bottom and silva is to blame he has to go today, People slagging brands off is questionable ok his signings havnt been perfect but its the piss poor performances from the players who where there before him that are killing us, Mainly Keane, Siggy and more recently Tom Davies they are just not good enough to play at the level we want and need don't care who comes in at the min would love Benitez but can't see it we need someone who knows how to coach defending.

digne good
bernard good
mina has come good
richy good
gomes good
gbamin unfortunate with an injury
kean not even being played (once again looked miles ahead of any of our forwards when he came on last night despite *that* miss

only thing brands should be questioned over is why didn't we get a centre half in.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Dec 2019 08:51:17
Too many confidence players and no grafters. We were bullied by their full backs last night. Every time two players went down they left something in. We couldn’t match them for skill or for fight. And in the absence of skill you need fight. Bunch of softies that need to man up. They ran through us for fun and we did little to prevent it. Centre backs like Watson and Weir would never let that happen. They came from the school of thought that the ball could pass you or the player could pass you but never both!

Bring someone in who can get some fight back in our midfield because last night was a sorry effort. I can take being beaten by a skilful team but if aggression is missing, I can’t accept.

Firstly let me state that I’m against a Moyes return and any manager come to that. The late great Kendall is my saddest example.

But since he left us you could argue that his appointments were too tough to ever replicate what he achieved at Everton.

Man Utd. You can’t follow SAF. A completely toxic situation

Real Sociedad. You can only play and sign in the main players from the Basque which is incredibly restrictive

Sunderland. Need I say anything on that.

West Ham. They are crap whoever manages them. Yet not as bad as us right now.

It won’t be terrible if the club turn to him and he will do what Ham Saladice did just with a few more shots on goal. We have good players to get a tune out of and that he will do. I’m being pragmatic here because I have the same view of him as Ed 25, namely the dreadful way he orchestrated his departure from us after 11 years. I wish we were able to get something better but I think our choices are limited to a guy who betrayed us and a guy who belittled us (Benitez) . I can’t forget either of those for what they did but I will try if it means fixing the club that took me from a feeling of hope and optimism in the summer to a shameful state of embarrassment last night.

First off whoever comes in should have good English. it has been difficult to understand Emery, Silva, and a few other premier managers. allowing for the fact that many players are from abroad, it still instills confidence in the fans when the person coming in can tell us clearly what their stategy is through a good grasp of the language. needless to say, Klopp has that is spades.
In the shape or lack of it that we have at the moment, Benitez appears to be a good candidate. maybe not what everyone would want but we have to dig ourselves out before we can begin to breathe easily. To be honest, Digne, Richarlison and Bernard are the ones worth building around. Gomez (down the line) and Gbamin we don´t know enough about. about. but our three centre backs are way off the pace at the top level and there needs to be someone in the middle of the park at centre half or centre midfield to captain the side. maybe Delph. We definitely need to lose a number who will not move on easily. and it will be at a substantial loss. Who would have thought we would have wasted so much money after having so little for so long. We have some talent, but far from a team of it.

I don’t care if I can understand him or not. I want a winner who the players understand.

We need a manager with charisma. You only have to look at Klopp the way he instills confidence in his players. Whoever we get it's a relegation fight. Maybe we should go for the Brighton manager? Saw their game against Liverpool and they played great football and didn't deserve to get beat! No wonder they have given him a new contract . He obviously knows what he is doing unlike Silva. If he doesn't go today there is something drastically wrong with the management at board level.
