I really hope we don't play Neville in midfield with Fellaini against Spurs, i know Gibson is injured and Osman and Rodwell are just back so could be a risk playing them but one of them two instead of Neville Moyes please ! Neville is a great right back and leader for us, but centre mid..... NO WAY.

David moyes talks utter sense!
Davis Moyes has called for major changes at all levels of football to secure the sports future.

Talking to The Express Moyes has said:

“Everyone in the Premier League takes a 20 per cent pay cut to put football finances back on an even keel and allow a significant reduction in ticket prices to make football more affordable for the ordinary fan.

“Perhaps the 20 per cent suggestion would cause some mayhem,” he added, “but I think we need to do something serious. People might say it would be harder to attract players to the Premier League, but we have to take responsibility for the long-term health of football.

“Clubs have to control their money properly and only pay what they can actually afford. People have to be held responsible when things go wrong.

“Every family in the country at the moment has to finance correctly. They can’t overspend. Why is football different?”

Moyes also blasted diving in the sport and believes that managers and players need to take joint action to eradicate it.

“I see myself as a supporter of football and I see things I don’t like that are damaging the game,” he said. “One of them is players going down too easily. In the last 10 years, we have seen a lot more diving. Players now go over at the slightest brush of contact. For me, it’s one of the worst things of all.

“I believe players must take a bigger responsibility on this issue. We and the players haven’t done enough to help the referees, which has made their job doubly hard. I would advocate retrospective action by the FA on diving.

“I say to my players there must no diving in our team. There is no ‘but’ to it either. I don’t want it.”

Moyes has also indicated agents roles in the game.

“Another area to worry about is agents. It was a better situation 10 years ago. Back then, I looked at the way agents abroad had control of the players, and in some cases the clubs, and thought that couldn’t happen in Britain.

“You thought the chairmen wouldn’t be daft enough for agents to be doing the deals or telling them what deals they should be doing.

“That seems to be happening now in some cases, and it seems the players are more easily controlled by agents instead of doing what’s right for their own game. That’s a change for the worse.”

The Everton gaffer also gave his feelings on technology and he has his doubts as to whether the quality of football has improved and possible new league structures.

“Technology has changed for managers and helped in many ways,” he explained. “Now we can monitor everything a player does. There’s no doubt the game has speeded up but I’m not sure that has made for better football.

“I think some of the players in the Premier League 10 years ago were at a superior level than those of today in terms of technique and ability. I’m thinking of Dennis Bergkamp and Gianfranco Zola, for example. That was a golden era in the Premier League.”

“We have to help referees,” he says, “whether it is using technology, whether it’s having two referees on the pitch or whether it’s changing attitudes in the game.

“Maybe it’s time to have a Premier League One and Two, and to invite Scottish clubs like Celtic and Rangers to join. I think that would add to it.”

The Scot spoke passionately about lowering ticket prices to ensure that grounds are filled and the sport is available to all.

“I’d like to see lower ticket prices so that everybody can afford football. We should be filling all the grounds all the time. If people in football took that 20 per cent pay cut, then lower ticket prices could be one direct result. Football’s been around for 150 years and it has come a long way, but we have to make sure we don’t take it away from its roots. We must not get too far away from people.

Moyes also called for a new approach to how young talents are treated and developed from an early age.

“Look at the kids – we’ve moved too far away from the roots there. I would advocate allowing top young footballers to go back to playing for their school teams. Taking kids out of school, and just playing with other elite youngsters, has affected discipline.

“I think we need to get back to kids growing up normally, not being banned by football clubs from playing other sports, like cricket, at the age of 14. I think that’s terrible. Just let kids play.

“We used to talk about ‘over-use’ injuries in youngsters because they played too much. Now the danger is that they are nearly not playing enough and not playing just for the fun of it.”

The 20 per cent pay cut idea is silly

football operates in a free market environment - everyone is free to do what they want - including ruining their own asset / possession

if several clubs decided to follow Moyes's advice and cut their wages by 20% and one club didn't - then they'd be paying more - and the best players would go there - and they'd win everything - and get more revenue - probably would then cover their higher wages - so then others would put their wages back up by the 20%

it wou;dn't work - the only thing that will stop clubs spending too much is eventually the bank manager when no monre money to loan is available - until then most will overspend

the best clubs should be well run ones that keep up a good record whilst managing costs - then they'll still be around when then overspenders go bust

hopefull happy days for everton who aren't too badly in debt :)

Did Jelevic play well when he came on yesterday or have we another non scoring striker as we had before Saha left. I was watching the commentary on sky sports yesterday and did NOT see Jelevic mentioned.

He looked sharp mate. Got no service at all though

BBC Match of the Day pundit Robbie Savage at Cardiff City Stadium:
"I just feel sorry for AVB. Rafa Benitez looks an interesting prospect and he might get the best out of Fernando Torres, but AVB should still be in charge. The players and board should be culpable. I'd go for someone like David Moyes, he has over-achieved at Everton and brought a bit of stability to the club."

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Robbie savage is a knob who's getting on my my tits - he just speaks in cliche's and always running everton down - think he doesn't like us and wants to prize moyes away for some reason

moyes fits everton very well - he may not fit another club quite so well

Sesseneon has been sent off with a straight red I think. If this is true he will miss the FA cup with a possible 3 match ban. This will be good news for us should it be true. He is a quality player that Sunderland will miss.

Toffee ace {Ed025's Note - he is by far their best player ace...that is good news..

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lee catermole will miss the game aswell, 10 bookings 2 match ban

Weve still got bendtner though

Catermole was sent off aswell today. Blue Lee

I think cattermole got a red after the final whistle too

More opposition fans invading our site again! You should be ashamed! I do hope Bendtner plays though - he is total cack! According to BBC Sport, both Sessegnon and Cattermole got straight reds so both appear to be ruled out of the Black Cats LAST FA Cup match this season! Lol BlueTone

all you people saying we shouldn't sin drenthe must be p*ssed or something. he's class! he may be frustrating at times but he is quality, the guy can have a bad game and still get a goal or an assist; thats a sign of a world class player! and on top of all of that he is on a free.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

If he is world class why would real let him go and why have no big teams made an intrest in him since his move to real where he could not get a start?

I really don't understand the Neville in midfield Moyes goes with when we have a couple of injuries!! WHY? What's he there for? Fellaini does a "neville" job aswell as getting up the pitch to support the striker, did you see Fellaini's tackle for the goal we scored, the headers he won in both boxes? The amount of time he closed down players and broke play up and passed it to someone? That's what Fellaini does by himself, so we don't need Neville in the middle with him, I love Neville, not slagging him off, he's a great leader and utility player for mainly right back, it's Moyes that annoys me.... he could off played Barkley in the middle with Fellaini and i know Osman and Rodwell are just back but for me if a player is fit for the bench he is fit for a start so there were lots of better options today but once again Moyes chooses the "safe" option. We are Everton, not Wigan, we should go to poor teams like QPR and go for it!!
Anyway, 8 games unbeaten and looking forward top a tough but exciting 10 days starting at Tottenham, need to perform for 90 minutes against these next 4 teams not 20 minutes score a goal and sit back, we will get punished by them teams if we do that, luckily we only played QPR and got away with the draw.
Stop being naive blues and have a go.

Bit annoyed about yesterdays game. We started well, playing some nice football, hit the bar with Cahill, the Drenthe scored. QPR were low on confidence and you could tell, whilst we were high on confidence and scored a cracker....... then................ WE SAT BACK!! Invited them on, gave them confidence, lifted there crowd, they got the equaliser and we were lucky to get a point! We do this a lot away from home!
Have to be a better for the whole 90 minutes in the next 4 games or a season will come crashing back down to earth!!

For the Blues that are saying we shouldnt buy Drenthe i think you are wrong yes there are some things in his game he needs to stop but more time in this league will help him hes a very talented lad and hes only 24 i guarentee if we sign him and he has a full pre season with us he will learn alot more about the english game, for a winger to come in from a different league and get 9 assists and 4 or 5 goals with 12 games still to go is incredible considering how many games he has played in, we have nothing to lose on him he is a free transfer and the lad just needs to wanted at a football club i believe thats why he's like what he is because he just kepps getting pushed from pillar to post, Pienaar wasn't amazing wen he first come and overall he only scored 8 goals for us so he obviously isnt that bad every player in the world has bad habbits in football, your telling me you wouldn't have Balotelli at Everton? and about his sending off that was very harsh hes one of the fastest wingers in the world and he couldn't stop himself from going into bertrand so its not all his fault. and just remeber when he first come to goodison he said it reminded him of his beloved club Feyenord and that we are a family club he has respect for Everton and in all honesty there isnt many if any better wingers we could get with the budget we have, so you dont want us to sign drenthe but i bet you want us to sign Pienaar so who we gonna sell coz weve got no money Jags, Barkley, Rodwell, Fellaini NO none of them because drenthe is quality and will come good just give him a chance! He is world class {Ed025's Note - i hope your right mate...at times he looks like a world beater, lets hope he is just finding his feet in the prem, he is only young, but he needs to learn quickly that moyes does not suffer fools gladly, so its time to settle down royston, dont waste your undoubted talent by your off field naivity ..

Believable1 Unbelievable0

I agree we have to sign him the guy can beat players and has a cracking shot I believe we look a real threat with him in team I know he has things to learn about not giving the ball away as much which I think he is now improving on but I can't see us getting that quality unless we pay 10 15 million for someone but we could get him for next to nothing wages would be the issue as I can't imagine him on low wages at madrid

I know I will probably upset a lot of fellow Evertonians with this post, but I have stated my opinion on here over the last few months concerning Drenthe. After watching him again today at QPR I still sincerely hope we DON'T sign him on a permanent contract at the end of the season. He scored a brilliant goal again today, but then he becomes the usual liability he has been since he came to the Club. His disaplinary record is a disgrace I think he has 5 Yellow & 1 Red Card against him,he gives away far to many free kicks mostly in very dangerous areas, and he tends to go missing in most games for long periods. I don't think he has the right temprament for the Premier League, his workrate is not good enough & that's why Real Madrid virtually confined him to their outcasts. I just think we might be better served looking at other players for next season. Come on Blues lets have another strong finish towards a possible Euro Place.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

I have said this before... we need a more consistent and reliable player. I thought he would play better with the either Nev or Hibbert behind him as their more defensive than Baines but apparently not. For me he is a player to be brought off of the bench if we are losing or need a goal and i dont think he will be happy being that person

Agree0 Disagree0

I remeber a lot of people were saying similar things about Felli, always getting booked, gave the ball away, now look at him. Give Drenthe a chance he's done well to adapt so quickly in his first season, give him next season and the chance to mature a bit more and he'll be causing defences all sorts of worries in 2012/13. Because based on the goals he's scored so far they're really difficult to defend against blasted from that far out, going in close, you can get bi-passed back off too much and he'll smack on at goal. Don't be too quick to judge the kid.
