Is it right that Barkley was sold for $35 mil in the summer when he backed down and now will be sold around $15. If that's right talk about a big shaft.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

05 Jan 2018 08:08:08
I see anything as a bonus right now, he’s not better than what we have. People can compare to Sigurdsson all they like, Sigurdsson is a far better footballer than Barkley, he may not have the pace or fancy stopovers and all that useless stuff Barkley doesn’t know how to use. But on the ball and his work rate? Much better. I’d love to swap their ages around if I could, give me a Sigurdsson in our youth academy than a Barkley any day.

Maybe the stars are aligning for an Everton win tomorrow. After the news coutinho and Salah won't play for the slytherin tomorrow. More good news, Karius will start in goal for them.
😁.

Any chance of a sharkopod Ed002 if you get a minute.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It looks like Monday will be the only chance - as I am in London all weekend then running around Europe Tuesday to Thursday. So Monday else maybe Friday.}

04 Jan 2018 20:06:48
Well Friday is nearly up on us. I'm hoping Sam plays 2 up front or 4 4 1 1. Let's have DCL causing their centre backs some grief but with someone else like Sandro or Niasse up their with him. I'm certain we haven't learnt to keep the ball in midfield over the last few games so let's play to our strengths and exploit their weaknesses.
Our defence should still be pretty solid even with 7 or 8 men behind the ball. COYB.

There could be 8 changes mate if the rags are to be believed lol.

Think Sam will definitely ring the changes Guernsey just hope we do go for it and have a good go at them, and Smit would love Sam to play 2 up top.

Just watched Cenk Tosun on SSN, he certainly knows where the the goal is.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

04 Jan 2018 19:13:49
Yes bur that is a Turkish goal GB, the English goal seem a lot more elusive.

Agree1 Disagree1

04 Jan 2018 19:26:59
He does look strong, skillful and composed from what I've seen. Although even if possible, I don't think it wise to play him in the FA Cup derby, as this might be too much pressure too soon for a player who will have only been with the team for mere hours. Although I do hope he scores a debut belted or three if he plays!

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 19:51:19
That should read belter above. I suspect belts of any number are against FA rules of player kit requirements :)

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 19:57:26
You say it's a Turkish goal but did you see that goal he scored in the champions league, absolute worldy! . Goal of the tournament contender bare minimum.

Agree2 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 21:37:23
gibboEFC, they are one off games. The Prem really is a different scenario. What we are at the moment is a 10 men behind the ball Team. This fella and Sandro look about the same build and speed, both prior to the Prem know/ knew where the goal is. I hope at last we have someone in Tosun but Alardyce is perfectly correct to state he will bring him on slowly.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 21:52:57
People are going a bit over the top about Tosun. Let's be honest, who on here had ever heard of him before a few weeks ago?
I'm interested to see him, and obviously hope he's a runaway success, but people talking about goals of the season and prolific scorer etc are wide of the mark. He's coming to a new league with so much pressure to be a success and clearly (as we've seen with Niasse and Klaassen) it doesn't always work.
Can't we just see how he fairs for the 2nd half of the season before making statements of sensation which leads to gripes if it doesn't work out.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 22:32:31
Tbf had we really heard bout gana, dcl, holgate or lookman before we signed them. Even vlasic. Who would of known bout him if we hadnt played HS. Tosun could be brilliant for us up front and could be terrible, give the guy a chance 1st. We could get Messi on a free and pay 50 quid a week wages and a lot of us would go " arrgh, crap, not good enough anymore". Even sandro is labled a flop. Remember he had euro championship, hardly any pre season and in a different league and country. Could be a belter of a player next season, we just don't know. i hope Tosun hits the ground running like Jelavic did, but carries it on season after season.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 18:44:35
One in the bank Blue Boys, who next, who is a real target, not just Speculation, a Defender, Attacking Midfielder, who, s out, Barkley, Mirales, Lennon, Cuco, take yer choice of many, but we do need to sell and Buy COYB.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

04 Jan 2018 19:32:21
No way we should let Cuco go, i admit he not the best but he is out of position and shown more heart than most this season. I really think qe should keep him as a squad player, the imprpvement he has made since those first few games at left back is obvious i think it would be a mostake to let him go.

Agree6 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 18:27:22
Hi ed, i'm not too knowledgable about players outside of the premier league an so don't know how good tosun is. Could you share some of your knowledge on him please?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - if you googled him tit you would know as much as me mate..

04 Jan 2018 18:39:15
He a german born turkish player. Yep that's my knowledge of him done. Glad I could help 😉.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 18:50:00
From what I can gather about him he is highly rated and needs nurturing to that next level. If he manages to settle into football in the premiership then he should be a good signing for us. I don't think he will be an instant success though.

Agree2 Disagree1

04 Jan 2018 19:20:01
Your best bet is going on the Turkish rumours and comments, not one bad comment about the player, even from rival clubs in Turkey, each and everyone saying we’ve landed one hell of a player, that’s good enough for me.

See the rags are saying that Kev looks like he's off in this window, don't like the guys attitude myself, and in his interview Big Sam did not seem that fussed either, i want our players to show 100% for the whole game.

04 Jan 2018 15:12:00
I won't be crying any tears GB.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 15:45:27
It is a shame because he WAS really good player with goals in his game. Then Martinez started dropping him and Koeman followed suit and he looked a shadow of his former self. Sometimes a player just needs a kick up the **** and moves to a new club and bingo he looks great again. The Stoke lad now at West Ham has just started to look like his old self again.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 15:58:38

I'm with you guys on this. Kev has never been consistent and not one season he's been with us has he looked like he's had the right attitude.

On top of that he's talked about wanting to go to another club every season as well.

Get well soon grumpy. Sounds like a nasty injury what you've got there.

Sam has said a draw is no good n the cup and will not be parking the bus on Friday.

I think this is a good move, they have two players having to make a round trip of 6000 miles, not ideal before a big game, add to that no Coutinho and it really is a case of having a go.

If we can't start with Gaye, McCarthy, Bolasie and Rooney, it gives us a fighting chance, Keane will be out but if Jags is selected, that could be an added bonus for experiance.

It all comes down to the final third and about taking any chances that come our way.

Two weeks ago, I was a little weary of this match, now with our neighbours inconveniences before the tie, and ourselves having McCarthy and Bolasie back, we have a much better chance than two weeks ago, having a new striker would be an added bonus.

Expecting a team that set up defensively against the mighty Bournemouth to transform its mindset almost instantly to attack Liverpool is asking a lot.

Vlasic, lookman and bolasie are players that can make a difference attacking wise for me.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

04 Jan 2018 14:42:43
number 14 most likely, and I can imagine it'll be sam byrne removed from the squad :)

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 12:57:54
I know another poster mentioned ins and outs this window and I replied with my thoughts.
When I reflect now there is probably nobody I would say I hate and want shot of. Niasse and Lennon are both players who give 100% but would not be in my first 11. Similar could be said about Martina.
I never thought I would say Mirallas either for his ability as he as always been a favourite of mine, his attitude has let him down.
Maybe Stekelenburg is surplus as Robles is a good no2.
The rest of the squad are either young or need time to settle. The hardest thing for Sam is the unbalanced squad and some big decisions need to be made some players will need to be moved on, purely because we are overloaded in that position and impossible to keep them happy.
Personally I would look at 4-3-3 with the players we have.
RB - Coleman and Kenny
LB - Baines and decide
if Galloway or Garbutt are good enough if not get rid and bring in replacement like Luke Shaw.
CB - Keane, Holgate, Mori and either jags or Williams and sell the other once Mori is fit.
CMD - Gueye, Banigime, Decide which other two from Schneiderlin, McCarthy, Besic, Davies or N’zonzi.
AMC - Sigurdson and Rooney (I would have preferred to keep Barkley but not happening) & Will Klassen get a chance before these two? So either loan him for a season then bring him back to replace Rooney. We also have Dowell to think of.
RW or LW - Bolasie, Lookman, Vlasic decide on Mirallas future and Lennon if not sign another.
ST - Tosun and DCL sell Niasse and Either Loan out Ramirez or sell and buy another ie Batshuayi or Dembele. As this is the only position we need more than 1 person to cover as it’s always good to have the option of two up front.
In reality we could see all these players available for sale.
Stekelenburg
Jagielka
Galloway
Garbutt
Besic
Davies
Schneiderlin
Barkley
Klassen
Lennon
Mirallas
Niasse
Ramirez
Martina.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

04 Jan 2018 13:16:55
Why would we even think about selling Davies? He is 19 and full of promise and will only get better.

Agree2 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 13:52:59
Good post Robbie. I would be a bit wary of only ending up with Baines and Shaw as LBs as they could quite easily be both injured given their recent record.
I would keep Niasse as a 3rd or 4th choice, get us out the mire striker if needed.
Batshuayi can't play as a lone wolf so not sure how we would fit him in.
Davies has to stay, don't need to give a reason except he will be one of the finest english midfielders in a few years time given the correct management.
I would keep or loan Klassen and Sandro and give them another season to acclimatise if they want to say that is.
Schneiderlin and Mirallas have to go, in fact i'll drive them myself if they need a lift. Besic has to move on for hi own sake i think.
I would keep Mccarthy till the summer to see if he can stay fit, because we always seem a better team when he's in it, albeit he's not in it too often.
Other than that i totally agree with you.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 14:44:29
why on earth would we ship tom davies out, the lads got class not just him having a rough season its the whole team, he is dynamic and not long ago we were saying he was the future club captain.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 14:53:36
Good shout Smit mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 17:07:57
I do like Davies but he has struggled this season maybe it’s not his fault and just needs managing his game time similar to Kenny and DCL as both have looked jaded last few games.
Davies is CM though and not AMC.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 18:30:48
He takes the ball forwards, looks up for a pass or a one two and what does he see? No one apart from DCL 20 yards up the field, so it is no wonder he is struggling to retain his form. He will come good.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 18:57:55
At 19 I don't see many around in the EPL as good as him.

The problem is game time as you say. There is no consistency in his playing time. He gets in then dropped again in then dropped. We seem to be getting more stable at the back yet up front where we struggle, we chop and change every game. No surprise we don't score.

I agree with the rest that can go.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 12:26:11
so big Sam has just said he expects Barkley to leave this Window which is a shame as I really like him but at the same time really disappointed in him as it feels like he has used us to get himself fit again then be in a stronger negotiating position just shows no loyality in football.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - thats football and footballers these days bluey, loyalty is a thing of the past im afraid mate..

04 Jan 2018 14:12:57
I know sad really I hope he goes on to have a great career but niggles away at me how we looked after him after his triple leg break gave him a platform to play for the team he loves (which we can only dream off) then recuperates at us just to give himswlf a stronger hand when it comes to discussing terms with a new club.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 14:38:48
Barklay is close to being a free agent at a club whose management is far from settled. He would need to be insane to sign another contract in those circumstances.
Having said that, if you were a possible buyer, how much would you be prepared to pay for a player who is that close to the end of his contract and hasn't played all season? Would you take Everton's statements on his fitness at face value or would you adopt a "seeing is believing" stance? I think we need to get him back on the field this month even if only for a couple of sets of 10 mins each. He should be on the bench and given 10 minutes late on in any game that is no longer in the balance, hopefully because we are 2-0 up but whatever. He should be told to run around but minimise his physical involvement. If he happens across a plate of chips he can tackle that but nothing else. That way he can be made more saleable now and reduce the inclination of possible buyers to wait for summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 13:19:34
If he ends up at Chelsea I will be miffed Ed. We could have gotten a lot more for him in the summer and he has sat and got over his injury at our expense.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i would not let it bother you mike..

04 Jan 2018 13:55:21
I know what your saying about loyalty Ed025, i wish he had my loyalty. Although if he does go can he please goto Tottenham as i've got a ton on him at 11/ 2. ;o)

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i want him to go there as well smit, but only for you mate..

04 Jan 2018 15:18:12
know im not alone in saying sad to see ross go, seen an interesting rumour online before saying that apparently he told forrester (his best mates used to be on the books with us) that he can't take the fan pressure anymore and leans towards spurs fanbase.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 15:34:16
Would love to see Levys face if Chelsea snap him up, waited to get him on the cheap and backfired big time.

Personally I think it the lowest of the low by Barkley, he done us out of a decent transfer last Summer, had the brass neck to stay at Goodison and receive first class treatment in the treatment room, while continuing to pay his wages, now back to fitness he cannot wait to get away and for a reduced price as well, fair play he wants away but leaves a sour taste in the mouth, after the way Everton looked after him.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i agree baz..

04 Jan 2018 18:27:54
Agree Bazwil.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 19:25:30
And not for the first time either, we nurtured him through his knee injury before giving him a platform to shine and the chance to become a one club man idolised by the fans like SG did across the park, instead he is probably going to end up at Spurs playing second fiddle to Erikson, Alli and even Dembele.
If its for personal reasons to do with the city then come out and say that, otherwise he is looking like he is going for the money and if so that rules out Spurs as they ain't going to break the ceiling they have as Levy is tight. Regardless, he wants to go so he shouldn't be in the matchday squads fit or not as we only want players who are playing for our club, not to impress for a move.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 12:14:35
Well that's Big Sams first signing, and now on to the next ones really good to see Mr Moshiri backing Sam and this signing is what we have all been missing, so good luck to Cenk let's hope he hits the ground running with plenty of goals, I will just say let's judge Big Sam at the end of the season I think this window is going to be really beneficial to us, so come on lads and lasses let's get behind Sam and the team onwards and upwards.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

04 Jan 2018 12:26:33
Most of us are behind him GB. Be interesting to see the squad at the end of January.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 14:00:27
Not sure we will see that many coming in Mike, I think the squad will have 2 maybe 3 additions to it. It's the summer window when Sam will be molding the squad and putting his true mark upon it.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 14:01:15
We are behind him GB but we have to judge him slightly every game to make sure we are moving in the right direction. We have been moving in the right direction for half a dozen games but have lost our way a little over the xmas period, on the whole we have improved as a sum total. Hopefully he can deliver us a win against the Reds or even Tottenham, either will do, both would be amazing and that should get the enthusiasm kicking in again.
What he needs to do though, is drop Schneids, keeping playing him is only damaging results and Allardyces reputation. hopefully the Mccarthy cameo will get him selected as i think he is a big Sam type of player more than Schneiderlin is.
Onwards and upwards GB.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 14:36:56
With you all the way there Smit mate, Morgan not good at all these days hopefully Jimmy Mac can stay injury free very good player when fit, add to that a couple more signings for Big Sam, maybe Seri or Nzonzi and up the ladder we go.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 15:42:11
With you both on that, I said a few weeks ago, one player I would not let go is McCarthy, when he plays, we play so much better and agree drop Schnids for him, if Gaye is fit, I would start with Gaye, McCarthy, Rooney and Bolasie, Tom Davies has not been doing it so would give the guy a rest and use Banangi, however you spell his name as backup, I have yet to see Niasse start and be as dangerous as when he comes off the bench so would have the likes of Niasse and Siggerson on the bench.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 18:24:00
I would have siggy starting for the ground he covers and his quality dead balls. He can also score a goal out of nothing.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 11:45:06
fingers crossed tosun is a real good signing, its a risk. turkish league not to good when you got bafeti gomis top goal scorer on 14 and tosun and our old favourite kone on 8 goals. that's just me being negative. come tosun bang them goals in and prove me wrong.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

04 Jan 2018 12:00:55
Won't know till he plays.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 12:08:55
While our goal count against the top few teams isn't too healthy, I would argue that Rooney has almost scored as many goals as Lukaku this season. It's not necessarily his goals that we miss. What we miss is his presence. Lukaku was such a handful up front that he would often drag 2, sometimes even 3 players with him, which opened up space for others to score. If Tosun can be even half that menacing up front then we will score more goals (and be more entertaining) even if he doesn't score a lot himself. I also hope he's decent in the air as at the moment only Williams provides a threat from corners.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jan 2018 12:52:50
Well Blue Tommy I would agree 100% with you. But it is more than that. Calvert-Lewin has done great but how many times have you seen the ball cleared to him only for him to hold it up for about 3 or 4 seconds. but no one arrives to support him. This is where we need a moblie midfielder. a number 10 believe it or not. Sig should be getting there but of course he is on the left as a wing back? But yes I agree that Lukakus presence has beenmissed badly. But we are still leaking goals even though things are better than earlier. We do not appear to be a cohesive unit. I must make allowances for the age of the team. Young Kenny was at fault for both goals the other night but looks a great prospect. We are in a time of change and we all need to be patient. As I keep saying, the rot started when Moyes left and we signed loads of average players with a poor goal return. Then were fortunate to land Lukaku which glossed over the inadequacies of the squad. As soon as he left you could see how poor the squad was. Results/ league places then and now confirmed what I was saying then. not everyone agreed and some still do not agree with me. but I am with you on this one mate. Lukau was like a saviour to us at the time and without him the squad looked very poor.

{Ed025's Note - no argument from me degsy..

04 Jan 2018 14:53:22
I hope Tosun does well but how many signings from the Turkish league can you name that have transform teams? We are in Sandro territory here. We need to be realistic in our expectations. I would rather the guy was given a cross to finish than one to bear.

I hope this transfer window goes some way to putting right the mistakes of the last one, although knowing what we need and actually getting the right personnel in isn't going to be easy. Some players need moving on that's clear but personally I'd rather send Sandro out on loan to hopefully get him up to speed with the English game and re-assess things with him in the summer.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

04 Jan 2018 11:30:27
I agree about Sandro, however with Cenk arriving maybe it is worth holding on to him as a change in style of play, hopefully, may be more suited to his play.
Let's hope we see Sigurdsson in a more central position knocking through balls to our runners.

That many differing reports re Tosun I guess we'll just have to wait and see if he's registered in time. I'd like to see a bit more of an attacking side than we have lately with maybe both DCL and Oumar up top, but no doubt Sam will field a defensive negative team and hope for a win by luck more than endeavour or if not a draw and a replay.

{Ed002's Note - He cannot be registered before he has passed a medical, signed a contract and obtained International clearance. That won't be done before midday.}

Is it not midday Friday Ed002, or are you still thinking it would still take that long?

I read a statement from the Besiktas president earlier saying that the reports of them holding out for a higher fee are not true.

What is the hold up? Does anyone know? Is he likely to play against the reds?
