Spot on defensively today, but very very lucky with the goal. Lukaku needs to do a bit better. But good signs from him.

It was nice to see Naismith in his actual position and Besic is a fargan Bosss.

Mcgeady is annoying. Did fantastic to get passed their RB, but then messed it all up! Joker. Got skills But nah.

Need that cutting edge up front again.

I was reading Neville Southall's book and in it he goes through the progress of the club through the years. In the Mike Walker bit he suggests that Mike Walker came in and completely changed the way we played. Apparently he wanted the team to play out from the back and retain possession. Southall says the players were just not good enough to do what he wanted. We would retain possession, but it would mostly be in our own half. Eventually, we would lose possession and the other team would score. The players then lost trust in Mike Walker. Does this sound familiar? When Joe Royle took over, he immediately worked on fitness levels and got the players pressing high up the pitch and releasing the ball forward asap. Results immediately improved. We need a Joe Royle clone!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We don't need a clone, we have the real thing on staff, if asked, i'm saw joe would step in till the end of the season.PLEASE

Agree0 Disagree0

Me for one never want to go back to the Joe Royle days, ok we won the fa cup but by god we were ugly to watch and not only that that style of football just doesn't cut it in the prem these days. I want to see football played the right way and that's not hoofball.

this is a results game, so pritty football and losing won't cut it, if we get the result playing hoof football then so be it, its the result that counts atm not how we get it. I think rm thinks like you, rather than just go for the win, we should pass it up down left, right, make sure we have more possession, conceed goals and end up losing!!

all I am arsed abouot is winning as are 95% of everyone everton, win scrappy or lose pretty. " we finished 16th but how good was oour nice pritty passing or battled through each game not eye catching but we in champs league!!

get the result first and formost!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im with you TB..

If you take Van Gaal at Utd as an example for just a moment, there`s 3 of them sat on the touchline with laptops configuring strategies, plays and movement, yet when they were struggling they put Fellaini on and hoofed the ball up to him ASAP resulting in an upturn in fortunes which shows when it ain't working, CHANGE IT!

Agree0 Disagree0

And Chelsea and Man City also put a big lump up front if they are losing with 20 mins to go.

3 points are 3 points, fair enough, but to day was like the ALAMO for us, even the Robes had a Davy Crocket hat on.
Is this all we have to look forward to for the rest of the season?
God help us & save us, make his light to shine upon us, & deliver us from this Spanish charlatan.

Guess martinez will get a new improved contract from Bill now we've finally won oh and you watch martinez say we don't need new signings cause we already have a winning phenomenal team. Anyway well done lads just make sure you beat that lot next week

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Moan when we win moan when we lose. There is no pleasing some people.

Well 3 points is 3 points I suppose. Fair play to Palace their support is fantastic, but we did our team proud again. Pity same can't be said about the game.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

More than I was hoping for today to be honest, but a clean sheet and an away win will do just fine. Given our form and results this season, if you told me we'd get by for the rest on ugly 1-0 wins, then I'd bite your hand off, even if every goal came from McGeady scoring by mistake with his bum cheeks. Now there's a mental picture i'll never scrub clean.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2015 17:08:10
Credit where credit's due: we won away today and kept a clean sheet. We rode our luck - Palace will believe they deserved at least a draw and we didn't play that great, but the three points are vital, so I'm thankful for that. It'll be far tougher to get away with under-performing in our forthcoming fixtures, but nice to get a victory today.
:-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Still doesn't look like Roberto is changing his ways. His unshakable belief in his own methods would be all well and good if it wasn't so obvious they don't work. We didn't play well today but at last our defence put in a shift. I hope to God when McArthy returns it is at the expense of Barry and Roberto sees sense and retains Besic. I reckon with those two in there our energy levels will be 100 percent boosted.

just listened to the 1st half on 5 live, the commentators saying the same all the time.
poor defending, bad defending, panic at the back,
can't play the ball out, can't handle crosses.
same old same old from Everton.
Perhaps the God's will be with us today.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

To be honest that's not what Kammy (ssn) said hhenderson.

Kammy said Everton have defended brilliantly today buddy. About time though if you ask me

Agree0 Disagree0

During the game Sharpy on City said there were a few errors across the field when I followed the game but the BBC on Final Score described it as an excellent and well controlled game by the defence. I wil take an excellent defence everyweek with a snatched goal up front.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2015 20:41:03
Saw the game and the defence was top
Drawer today. Also I thought our fitness levels looked a lot better, we closed down a lot quicker today, and in patches we controlled possession against a team on a good run with pace in their side. All in all 3 points well deserved COYB

You know when Martinez arrived, he said it would take a while for the players to learn his systems and style of play. Unfortunately I think they have now. We might win this game but F. me its boring. Bring back Moyes all is forgiven.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The thing is with winning today (thank God) Roberto and his supporters will be coming out saying his methods have been justified. But look at the game critically and even quite a lot of games last season and you will see that a lot of luck came our way. He still hasn't sorted the defence out either.

Agree0 Disagree0

I guess we have just kept back to back clean sheets by accident then hey? Why don't you give some credit for once instead of consistently picking faults all of the time.

After all this talk of square pegs and round holes etc, I got to thinking. What shape of peg is McGready? Is there ever a hole that shaped? If so I really wonder where that would be.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

McGready is amorphous blob shaped and the hole in question is the one in his face where all the pies go.

watching Tim cahill playing and I'd have him back now. that man has passion and drive and would be a bloody good kick up the arse for half the slackers we have.

I'm legitimately happy we're playing Mcgeady two wingers from the start I can't remember the last time we did this.

31 Jan 2015 14:23:04
No mcarthy again. Will he ever be fit again? what's happened to garbutt at least he provides natural width, . Bobby keeps flogging a dead horse and putting the same players out ( mostly out of position ) and expecting different results. I really hope i'm wrong but I can't see us getting anything today. How I long for last season!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

ffs, I don't believe it!
Mr.Blobby strikes again.

Score prediction today:

2 - 2 I think! (which is not good enough but sadly I think most evertonians will take).

But could easily be 3 - 2 with Gayle and bolasie having there usual good game against us.

Coyb.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Think Bolaise is in Africa

I think your right, me bad. Oh well I'm sure martinez will still plan his whole pep talk on how to stop him.

come on everton coyb hope we start with this joel coleman jags stones baines mirallas besic mccarthy oviedo naismith lukaku

think we need the width and barkley needs rest and bring him on as impact player and people need to get off his back and barry been poor and besic been immense so hope he plays besic with mccarthy but I think he will play barry and barkley

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2015 13:20:00
I would agree with that team but its the tactics rather than the players that are bad.

I believe that the board know we're not doing well this season- even they can see the bleeding obvious (!) - but they have previous for giving managers time. The issue is whether or not RM will turn things around. I've seen us in relegation scraps before - including a couple of last-day escapes by the skin of our teeth - but this time it doesn't look like RM and the players are mentally or tactically up for the fight. I hope I'm wrong and therefore have to eat humble pie at the end of the season, but I'm no longer convinced that our little Spanish waiter will put humble pie on the menu. Instead, I fear he'll be serving us "Champ" - not the potato & onion dish, but "champ"ionship football.
:-(

Mirallas to pull an Arteta, and leave us stranded with Mcgeady and Atsu the only wingers available. I can see it now.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Dont forget barkley and naismith qb lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Ye but there wasted out there Naismith imperticular

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't know what's happened to Ross? hope money has not gone to his head.

Agree0 Disagree0

You ask, what's happened to Barkley?
RM has happened - that's what imho.
For all RM's so-called attacking football values, it's clear to me that he expects his team to stick to a rigid formation and tactical approach. Everything has to be his way and any individual creativity that isn't pre-defined by RM is not to be tolerated. See how many of our team are looking stifled and are just not performing. Then there's RM putting square pegs in round holes. Add in that RM selects players returning from injury before they're fully ready and it's no wonder we're struggling.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2015 12:48:14
Yes ofcourse how silly of me. because with Roberto, even Besic can play on the wing.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2015 00:30:46
. so Bobbys finally come out tonight & admitted we're in a relegation fight. apart from all the other over-hyped drivel he's been coming out with this past week that's the only true sentence uttered! I think he now realises he's a dead man walking, the players don't buy into his system anymore, neither do the fans, even the football analysists & press have become very critical of his methods. for me it's only a matter of time now before he's dismissed!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2015 00:05:46
i hope we bring in a winger and cb because we can't just play one winger and barkley or nasmith on the other and o joy o joy mcgeady back weekend bet he starts hate him so much
