The window opens tomorrow but I assume most business will start on Tuesday but please can we not wait until the last minute do some slightly desperate late deals. With Gana off after the next game, we need players in sooner rather than later. My wishlist would be schneirderlin (spelling) , yacine Brahimi, quality keepwr, lookman and a quality striker . and being really greedy, a quality play maker. Let's start as we mean to go in the new year. Leicester had key players suspended when we beat them and the gods have looked down on us again with van dyke seeing red today and I'm hoping Redmond's red against spurs warrants at least a 2 game ban. In koeman we trust.

I reckon we could have Depay and Lookman in by the end of the week, just guessing with both being omitted from their current teams squads today.

Hi Ed after last nights performance it shows we are way off the top four at the mo, as I see it Degsy hit the nail on the head R K wiil get it right soon, and will make big improvements in this window and if we lose Ross then so be it, as seen last night we have too many under achievers in our squad and its time to do something about it while we have a chance in this window, i am like the majority on here R K and Co are definitely the men for the job, let's give them time and all will become good, there are still too many of R Ms signings still in the team, so let's make the most of Mr Moshiri and his investment and get it right, GuernseyBlue.

There are indeed a lot of underachievers but I do feel Barkley will come good. Was it just me or did he seem a better player when Davies came on?

Hi S T, I hope he does as well. i think R K will get the best out of him mate, GuernseyBlue.

Southern Toffee, it was not just Barkley who looked better when Davies came on. they all did. He surely has to be given a few starts soon. Barry seems to get slower and slower each game. He was obviously class in his day, but he has to foul so often when caught out of position these days.

So Degsy Barry was a good or bad signing?

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Jan 2017 10:28:09
I have to say that in comparisson with Martinez's other signings. only Lukaku has been better. So you could say a good signing, but that doesn't say much about his other ones in my view. He did have an excellent last season, but in all honestly if he was 25 or 26 would be so much better! We should have been aiming for a younger player. He can only have a limited time now.

Hi Ed I thought Ross looked better last night, a lot more comfortable with the ball, do you reckon it was the young lads in the team who seem hungry to pass the ball and also have plenty of energy, GuernseyBlue.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

{Ed025's Note - i never seen anything that changed my mind on him last night GB bar for maybe the goal, wasted a lot of ball and his tracking back non-existent again, i know we all want him to be the player we wanted but its just not happening mate..

31 Dec 2016 16:15:35
Hi Ed thanks I was just trying to be a bit positive about Ross, I have a feeling he could one that will be shipped out, really hope not, but what will be will be, glad it will be R K to make the tough decisions in the coming window cheers, GuernseyBlue.

Hi all I see some of the rags are already saying this is going to be a very active window for us not only incomings but with outgoings as well with some saying up to eight players could go, WOW this is going to be some window if even half of it is true, holding my breath with optimism, GuernseyBlue.

Like many of you I watched the match last night and came away happy that we managed to get a draw that we never deserved.

Whilst the game was on in live chat I sort of stuck my neck out a little and said in my opinion all that Barklay, and Lukaku need is the right type of players around them to unleash their potential, Someone ( don't remember who ) mentioned Mirallis should be included as he had quote " Run his socks off "

What I mean by having the right players around them is having players who understand the positions those three and others around them play in.

What was clearly evident not only last night but other games this season is the lack of understanding our players seem to have of what other team mates are doing. Last season Leicester had that and so far this season four of the top five have that, the exception being Spurs who are not that far from being there.

You could be the greatest most accurate passer of a ball the worlds has ever seen but that amounts to very little if you don't know where to pass it, You could be the greatest striker the game has ever seen but again it means nothing if you never have the ball.

All of the worlds great players had an understanding of where the ball needed to be without having to look around or had an understanding of where it was they need to be or the space they needed to create, or run into. The reds ( I hate to say ) are almost there, they understand how each other play, and know where all there team mates are, and look at how free scoring they have become it is sickening.

With us when someone passes a ball and it goes into nowhere we as fans and the players on the pitch bemoan the player who kicked the ball, Chelski, reds and those teams up there including Leicester last season moaned at the player who should of been in the space the ball landed, not 10 yards away picking his nose.

Our team just do not seem to gel, they have not done so for three years, it's ok being best of mates on and off the pitch that does not make them flow whilst playing.

Another thing that came out of last night is that NBTB and myself are going to Bradford with a fiver each, Looking forward to that trip mate.

Grumpy. The understanding will come with time. Most of the players are struggling with the system so to also be where they need to be will be a struggle. We need more quality to play alongside lukaku, barkley, gana and miralas. By the way enjoy bradford you may bump into mbokani whilst you're there.

Hi Ed Degsy hit the nail on the head when he said RK and Co have not had much time to put all our problems right, some posters on here think it can be done in a couple of months, no chance this is going to take some time, as you can see by last nights efforts we will never make the top four with this group of players, so many under achievers in the side, and I have to say most were brought in under R Ms, we have a chance in this window with Mr Moshiri and his investment to get some decent players (although I can hear it now when the first signing arrives there will be the usual moans and groans from some posters not good enough etc etc) well its time to get behind Mr Moshiri R K and Steve Walsh and let them do the business we have got good times coming so let's all enjoy what is going to happen with our Great Club, GuernseyBlue.

I agree Guernsey Blue. Wouldn't say players are under achieving, I think there not as good as all the hype. Jags, baines, Barry, mirallas, lennon, were all very good players once. But are ok/ good now, nothing more. Del boy, wants to dive and and throw his arms at the linesman when he gets a game. I think koeman is doing a steady job, realistically we're not as good player wise to match the top 6. I think over the nxt two windows we say goodbye to Joel, Gibson, jags, mcgeady, kone, niasse, rodriguez, mcaleny, oviedo, deulofeu. We have garbutt and Galloway out on loan who aren't setting the world alight. Galloway done OK with us.

31 Dec 2016 12:11:43
Think it would be fair to say we need a new spine in our team bought in January and summer window as what we currently have ain't good enough and is either too old, slow or been at the club too long - I think Carragher said something similar on the box last night. we need new keeper, central defender, Barry replacement, more creativity in midfield and to assist the strikers and another striker to partner Rom.

Watching the first few minutes last night was as predictable as the story line in one of the soaps my wife watches, no passion no fire, sitting back and bang one nil down! and not for the first time this season!
Surely the managers team talk and instructions are clear and they cannot be forgotten in the warm up?
Or maybe they don't agree with him and are on a wind up?
Whatever he has a big job sorting this group out, where is the leadership on the park, who is captain? its not Jags! its not Barry so perhaps give it to Williams, but let's give it to someone that will not tolerate this lack of passion and effort when playing for this great club of ours!
NSNO let us not forget!

{Ed001's Note - it just means the club has to work to a long term plan to balance the books, in effect. You can't just go and spunk money out on players without some plan on how to get that money back in the next couple of years.}

31 Dec 2016 11:33:26
Basically protects clubs from doing what's now known as 'a Leeds'
So regardless of how much money Moshiri has, its the revenue the club makes that is used on transfers not the owners. I am not a finance expert and tend to stay away from how much we have to spend as we as fans have no clue whatsoever even if a minority think they do.

I really don't understand all this bickering between fans at the moment. If I paint a picture as I see it, it goes something like this: We were making slow but signifficant progress under Moyes. Martinez came in and decimated our squad with a succession of poor signings and one saving grace (Lukaku) . He was sacked and Koeman came in. He tried to make some significant signings but failed for a number of reasons. He did make 3 good signings that immediately helped strengthen our 1st team squad and without them we would still be dropping down the table and probably around the relegation places. He was unfortunate that one of his signings picked up a career threatening injury and has now been ruled out for at least this season. We are coming up to his 2nd transfer window and are in 7th position. We have just drawn with Man Utd (who have spent billions on their squad) , lost unfortunately to Liverpool (ditto re spend) and beaten Arsenal (ditto again) . We have just beaten the Champions 2 nil away and got a draw at the bottom club who were fighting for their lives. Yes it was not the most entertaining of games and we played poorly. but although the manager might be to blame for tactics a little. why are people getting on his back? He is playing catch up and people who read my posts in the past will tell you that under Martnez, I was predicting relegation within a couple of seasons. He made our squad older and inferior. We went backwards. Why is Koeman being blamed for that when all he has had is 1 transfer window and made some progress?

Good post Degsy. its about improving every season and at the moment we are higher up the league, have beaten arsenal which we never do, beaten the premier champions and drawn with hull away, a game we lost under Martinez. I think we need to all calm down until the end of the season and then judge how good or bad a job Koeman has done. The guy deserves at least a season to improve us.

Good post degsy. a lot of fans expected to spend like real when farhad came and play like Southampton when ronny was appointed.
I see it like we've got and old squad that can't play the way he wants so he's playing a basic style they can cope with and grasp. he needs the windows to ship out dead wood and bring in the new.
When he has his team then we'll see how he wants to play.

Nice post Degsy. We are all frustrated and angry when we don't win because we are Everton and expect success. However, you have to look at the bigger picture and what we are trying to achieve.

You summed it up perfectly.

Thanks for the poitive responses guys. I thought some would think I was building up Moyes again. which I was not. but we certainly went backwards under Martinez. and how bad could it have been if he didn't get Lukaku on the books? That scares the proverbial grit out of me! But now it is time to give the club and it's individuals time to embark on a complete rebuild a little bit like when Moyes took over from Walter Smith. I like the fact we are signing all these kids who are obviously not the short term answer, but give it 2 or 3 seasons and at least 2 or 3 will probably be first team regulars. maybe even 4 or 5? Who knows. Then we need to sign the creative players and goalkeeper and probably a couple of young center backs. I see we are being linked with the Burnley center back who has a great reputation. he would be a great signing in my view. But to give up now at this important time of change in my eyes is foolish. This could be a time of change for the worse. but it could also be a great time of change for the better. but why give up before the change has happened? That's what gets me.

Degsy I am in full agreement with your post. Analysing the last three games highlights the real issues.
Against Liverpool Baines tracked Sturridge across our 18 yard line without making a tackle and allowing Sturridge a shot which resulted in the goal. In last nights game he tracked Snodgrass diagonally from just inside our half for 25 yards and then decided to grab his shoulder just outside our area conceding a needless free kick, which again resulted in a goal.
Too many senior players concede too many silly free kicks in dangerous areas due to lack of pace and poor positioning. Contrast that with young Davies who seeing the team caught on the break and a dangerous attack developing grabs Snodgrass, the difference being the youngster saw the situation developing early and committed the foul on the halfway line nullifying the danger.
Ronald, without doubt, would have warned the players of the danger in giving away silly fouls in goal threatening areas because of Snodgrass's prowess at dead ball situations.
Rest assured he will be as frustrated as the supporters by experienced international footballers who are unable to follow instructions and do the basics.

Sheedysleft (How we could do with the likes of him now) , bit of a jump that mate to compare us with China, perhaps if we did have that sort of wonga and FFP was suspended just for Everton, we would be giving retirement notices to everyone except perhaps 3 or 4 players. I would surprisingly retain the services of Koeman, better in my view than many of the 'star Managers'.

31 Dec 2016 00:51:13
We are in need of someone with that extra class to break some of these defences, too many times our attacks are broken by dogged defending, we can be so predictable, need someone with a golden touch . Miralles has class but the end result is often wasteful, Del Boy hasn't done it and Ross has had an up and down season . add to that we are short of goals from around the team . and the African Nations Cup is taking our best player for two months . OK so we need 2 or 3 players with some class! . easy one .
I note Koeman said we need a replacement for Bolassie . Lookman? But, I for one hope there's more than just him in the pipeline .
