Just a point on McCarthy.

He may not be everyone's favourite player and this is a site where we can air our views on players and our preferences. But when a player suffers an horrific injury like McCarthys whilst trying to prevent a goal scoring opportunity in the penalty box from midfield with no other defenders around closer than him. Could we please just show a little consideration for his service to the club and just wish him a speedy and successful return from injury.

He's an Everton player who was first to put his career on the line to ensure we didn't concede.

Great sentiments Toffee Ace. Let's hope he comes back with the same drive as Coleman did.

Very well said a good player mate.

Absolutely! I read comments about some players who have shown loyalty beyond belief that are just down right insulting! Terms like "dead wood". When a player slags a club off or can't wait to get away, I understand some fans frustration at the lack of respect shown by the said player. However, McCarthy is 100% as Toffee Ace says. Totally professional and never whinges nor says anything other than positive things. He should be treated with respect.

I would go on to say Toffee Ace matethat if the rest of team had shown the same effort as Jimmy Mac last season we wouldn't have been in the same mess at the end.

That’s right GB. I was thinking that when writing the post but didn’t add it in. Not sure why because it’s an excellent point you make mate.

Agree Degs. He’s only ever been a true pro.

{Ed025's Note - as you say ace a great pro, you never hear him whingeing when hes not in the side and even though i dont think hes the complete player i have a lot of respect for the guy mate..

31 Aug 2018 18:33:27
Cracking thrusting player McCarthy, Coleman likewise. For GB we have had many Teams in the past that have given their all every one of them. Players are professionals and I am absolutely sure that the Teams picked last season tried their best. What did happen was perhaps (I am guessing) the direction they received and confidence dropping (booing your own players at home does not help and to be honest quite deplorable. We either support the Team or we don't.

I love him as a player and hope when he comes back he can stay injury free. This lad could do a very decent job with Silva managing him.
He's got a great engine in there.

Haven't posted on here in a while. Made up with the start to the season although it will probably only take 1 defeat for the boo boys to return.

Unfortunately I usually find myself a tad optimistic, but I'm seeing a few signs that Silva could be the real deal. For example, making Davies captain the other night was the perfect way to build his confidence up, unlike Bobby who just praised his players until his words meant nothing or Koeman who seemed to want to criticise his players until their spirit was broken.

Of course Silva is well known for making an immediate impact and then not necessarily delivering long term, but I suppose we will find out. Either way I'm excited for this season, although Silva is at an advantage because anything performance-wise would be better than last season.

BT. There’s nothing unfortunate about being optimistic. You carry on mate if it brings you happiness. And so far I’m pretty impressed too which may be more down to the contrast from last seasons show that anything else.

What I want to see which is my only concern is that Silva needs to stick around and help with this project. Which goes against his record so far. But maybe this will be a good fit for the guy. So who knows.

Until then it’s just nice to see us bombing forward with pace and intent. Even if that makes me nervous for the defence (which I always am so no loss there) . So for now it’s good and could get even better with some of the new signings yet to make their mark.

Its taken me near on 4 years of depression to have it lifted! I actually can see the positive things happening that others were pointing out to me. I just hope the other new signings are as high quality as Richarlison. Certainly the youngsters are coming on leaps and bounds. My first game for ages the other night because I am living in Devon now and personal reasons. but our kids played some lovely stuff. Holegate will be some player in a season or two. Dowell has all the attributes too. I could go on and on but with a few signings here and there, things could really start happening. The manager loves trinagle football. Little groups of players combining to disrupt the opposition and break them down. I am loving it!

Yeah got to my 1st game weds nite GB. Really impressed with those youngsters. They really are coming on leaps and bounds and Calvert-Lewin looks about ready to give Tosun a fight for his place. Davies was class throughout and Keiran Dowall looks about 1 season away from being top quality too. We already know Lookman has ability. Banningeme also has shown he will be some player. It will be really interesting to see what team finishes this season because with Holgate looking better and better and young Kenny showing some ability too, then look at Richarlison and Pickford and we suddenly have the basis of a squad for the next 5 or 6 years minimum. David Unsworth really does deserve a pat on the back and some recognition for the work he has done. Yes the manager has done wonders but these kids were ready to step up before he arrived. If we can hold on to them and add a couple of others in. the sky is the limit!

That is my point about keeping Lookman Degsy, Calvert is a cracking player and like Tosun can hold the ball and yet only young. On Lookman, I have no or little knowledge of football, but I do have knowledge of Management of people (many people) . If a person comes to me (well HR) and states they categorically do not wish to continue, then they are either released or if under substantial contract, either pay that contract out or find someone/ organisation to pay it out. Crucially in this situation, there is no indication from the player himself or his agent that he has requested to leave.

31 Aug 2018 23:23:33
To be fair ktf950, Lookman has had rumours and stories surrounding him. But none have been actual quotes. The manager says he wants him. He says he was injured on Weds so could not be considered. He adds that he hopes he will be fit for the weekend. So only those at the club know what is really going on. Lookman might have a poor agent or be getting bad advice? Who knows other than those at the club and Lookman himself. I am hoping that he does in fact stay and develop with some of these other youngsters. We have others in many positions but he would add that other wide position to Richarlison.

He can even play off the front man. He has natural ability and a strong shot as well as pace. So with maturity he will become a good player if he listens to his coaches. I think people are expecting him to come in before he is really ready. The same has happened with lots of our youngsters. Young Davies was exceptional when first on the scene but then sort of look lost. But this season seems to have recovered and is again looking good. This happens with some youngsters and they should not be judged on this dip in form because they still have many years ahead. If they are overused they seem to burn out for a while.

I think that happened with a few of our youngsters last season due to injuries to many of our first choices. I suspect you already know all of this but thought I would write anyway because I am so happy with their progress and want to respond to some comments from last season whereby someone said Davies was not good enough? Ridiculous comment about a 19 year old who is playing in the worlds most difficult league against world cup winners etc! How about waiting to see what he is like at say 25? that's another 5 years of experience!
