On his appointment as manager, didn't Martinez say " I will get Everton into the Champions League". By this I would assume a top 4 finish. The way the business is being conducted it doesn't fill me with confidence for the future. Martinez needs to be reminded of his statement and club motto.
The club will find it difficult to get into the top 4 but not impossible with the current squad on its day and no injuries. To entertain offers from other clubs for the best players is not a step in the right direction.
If the likes of Stones, McCarthy, mirrallas etc leave I feel will result in the club ending up like Aston Villa have over the past few years, ie struggling in bottom half of the league. If any of the above mentioned players did leave they would be replaced with those of a lesser quality.
Bye bye chance of top 4 finish.
Does Martinez pull the strings regarding transfers, the board, or as I would expect a joint decision?

I am finding it hard to understand why I read posts where people are selling off Stones for £34m!
He has the ability and the potential to be the best CB in the country and yet we bemoan the fact the club will not buy top players, well guys he is one, also I can't understand the willingness to sell Mirallas who is one of the most clinical finishers we have especially 1 v 1, now I have seen posts let McCarthy go, sell Coleman etc etc, FFS these are players wanted by top clubs which I thought is where we want to be again, so why on earth would the club sell its best talent?

But what does being the best English centre back actually mean? Outside of Terry, Ferdinand and arguably Campbell England has not produced a world class centre back for 15 years.
I like Stones think he has a touch of class about his game but if he was French his price tag would be 12 million. 2 seasons ago his performance in the anfield derby was so shocking. A few weeks ago for England u21s he was the worst player on the pitch as Italy embarrassed us.
He is prone to mistakes which I suppose goes hand in hand with his ball playing style of defending and his positional sense is far from good.
That being said I hope he stays mainly because he is English and I think a British spine is vital to a premier league side but all this is blowing his true standing and ability a bit over the top IMO. To put things in perspective Kurt Zouma cost less than half what they have now offered for stones, hardly derisory like we as fans are saying

What I said was ability and potential, but he needs time to learn and will make mistakes as a young Ferdinand and Terry did, that's why staying at Everton is important for his development. we could cash in and he could become another young player that stagnates on the bench at a top four club, however he could easily develop into a top drawer player worth 350m as Luiz was and he certainly made enough mistakes!

for me stones is already world class will only improve massively with another injury free season with us to sell luiz for 50m is a joke stones already a far better player wouldn't sell for any less

Just about had it with martinez, jags isn't captain material and never has been. If it was upto me Gareth would be leading us out every week. I long for the dogs of war to return good ol' fashioned footy. A winning everton. What does everyone think?

Believable1 Unbelievable7

30 Jul 2015 19:06:27
I think you are being harsh mate, if you watch Jags closely he is one of the more vocal players on the pitch. He leads by example, you only have to listen to the young players (Stones, Galloway, Browning) who all look up to him and take advice from him. A natural leader in my opinion. With regards to Barry, although he captained Villa, he has only been with us a couple of seasons and, let's be honest, this will probably be his last season with us. I don't want him to be playing every game this season, unless he hits the heights of when he was on loan.

Really is getting to be another very dreary transfer window at finchy farm imho. really would like to see us offload some deadweight. the likes off mccarthy and stones have been underperformers for some time now, if someone wants to take them off our hands, then good riddance I say! their departures will bring a chance to re-invest. i'd like to see some real experience brought in to steady the ship. what do you guys think of glenn wheelan and chris brunt? brilliantly dependable and consistent imho. feel free to respond, just my 2 cents! - Alastair

Obviously a wind up by somebody with too much time on there hands. This smells suspiciously like a prank from a fan of a Norwegian side with an Anfield postcode. If not then the OP needs to go and get there head tested pronto.

If you have confused McCarthy and Stones with Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones, then I quite agree, they have underperformed for the last couple of seasons, but if you're actually referring to two of our best players, then I would suggest that you lay off drinking from the bottles under the sink for a while :)

Just my views on the so called Everton Exodus.
1- Stones: If he goes he will go for at least 34Mill that in my view is not bad. We should be able to get a more then suitable replacement and then some.
2-McCarthy: If he goes will be for over 20Mill. Again not a bad price either. We have Clev, Barry, Barkley, Osman, Besic, Gibson. We are more than covered. And honestly for me Besic is as good if not better. Just my opinion.
3-Mirallas: Here is where I see the biggest issue. Maybe just over 10 15Mill max. He does have an attitude problem. But I don't think we have replacements that are good enough. Maybe Del boy, Piennar old, and Aiden. We will have to really spend to get someone proper.
4-Lukaku: Not really worried about him going this season. We won't sell for less than 35Mill and currently no one will pay that for potential. I think next season if he shows what he can do we might have a problem.

So in my humble view we are OK no one is bigger then the club or irreplaceable. Specially not for the amounts of money that we could make. Rooney left we had our best campaign in the PL. Just saying.

If we get rid of both Rom and Kev then we will be in trouble unless we spend 50m to replace them. These two are the only players to score on a regular basis, take away their goals and we would be worse off points wise. Kev has an attitude but he scores important goals. Get rid of Rom and we are left with just Kone, nobody wants that!

It seems Austin is available for £15m which I think is great value for a player who scored 18 prem goals in a relegated side, I watched him last season and he reminds me of a shearer by that I mean he always hits the target 9/10 his alround game is good, considering £15m is not big in football these days for me he is a bargain especially when you see teams pay 10-15m for players that are not proven at this level that was dig at Newcastle, Mr Martinez as Everton fans we get worried when or if Lukaku gets injured as Kone who is suppose to be are answer if that happens is rubbish and injury plagued himself, do us a favour go and sign Austin and a centre back will make us very happy, surely there is money available, we can't be spending less than the rest of prem surely, last season proved how u forgiven this league is let it be a wake up call no matter how good he thinks our players are we need to be at the races on the 8th

I've watched for signings of Austin for a few weeks now and wonder if there are any concerns that are presently undisclosed. Is he refusing buyers, is he demanding excessive wages or is there another reason because I for one assumed someone would snap him up and I'd take him no problem.

There just appears too much silence about him. I'd be pleased as punch if I was wrong and we are just doing our usual slow process of buying.

I really was willing to give Martinez a chance when we first brought him here from Wigan. but very short on patience with him now! Does he actually fully understand just how big Everton FC really is. I don't think so at all. I say again "why aren't we spending and bringing in quality players"? Martinez stated during the close season that the Club knew their targets and would "do their transfer business early ". Cleverley & Delafeu may add to the squad depth, but they certainly are not the answer. We have sat and watched while numerous class players. midfielders, defenders& strikers have all been recruited by other Premier League Clubs and some of them for very competitive Fees. we have been linked in all the media with a lot of these players but then when interviewed, Martinez denies any interest at all in any of them?? So please tell us Everton, just WHO we are supposed top be very interested in signing? There isn't anyone of much note left around Europe to sign. and then it begs the question, who wants to come here and play for us? Martinez obviously believes that Kone is the answer and that he will come good. I say again also that I believe Stones will go maybe not to Chelsea now as both the Mancs are interested. McCarthy is unhappy at his treatment, Mirallas wants away, Coleman could still leave for a top Club and Lukaku is chirping like a budgie to any Club that is in European Competition. Everton lack ambition and this won't inspire or convince the players mentioned, to stay . its all well & good Martinez going back and forth to Barca for loan deals on their younger players but that's not signing quality established internationals from all over Europe, which this Club should be doing. The Stones issue is like watching the Gary Neville in Wayne Rooneys ear episode 10 years ago.it will happen & Stones will go. According to Sky tonight, Everton have spent the least money out of all the Premier League sides.just under £5mil.The Bookies are shortening the odds on Martinez being one of the first managers sacked in the new season. I certainly don't feel inspired for this new season, and plenty of others feel the same.Hope I'm proved wrong!

. so Bill came out in an interview & said that he, Bobby & the club have worked really hard at building a stable squad of young talent (I.e. - Stones) & are no longer a selling club.well that's all very well but I'd just like to point out this fact - Howard, Baines, Stones, Jagielka, Coleman, Osman, Pienaar, & Mirallas etc etc what they all have in common? They were all bought by Moyes who in my opinion had a far better scouting team under his teniorship when buying quality players for smallish fees. so apart from Lukaku (on a good day & who cost the earth in an Everton world) who exactly has Bobby & his scouting team actually bought in that can be deemed a real success & Everton mainstay going forward?!?
