Ross came on today and you can feel the excitement when he plays ..lets have more ..Naismith is not premiership class so lets see more of Ross ..Marky G

Believable4 Unbelievable7

Marky a cud not agree more lad just wish Barkley wud calm himself a bit tho he seems nervous but if he got a bit more time that will were off. LIAM!!

Agree0 Disagree0

He needs to learn to be less selfish. A few times he kept on to the ball and try and take on the player when he had Baines in space and then get tackled then Chelsea would counter. Thought Vellios looked impressive. Loved it when he turned on the touchline and passed it about 30 yards and it went straight to osmans feet.................

We need one even more desperately now with Gibson out for a month. Really hoping we can get Vadis, has more to his game than Gibbo.

Here's the nightmare scenario...
We lose at Newcastle, which begins our fall away from the European places during the second half of the season.
We get massive offers for Fellaini and Baines, which are too good to refuse.
We can't spend the fees for Fellaini and Baines because other clubs won't release their players during the January transfer window - or we need most of the money to service our debt.
We yet again get turned over by lower league opposition - this time Cheltenham Town - in the cup.
David Moyes doesn't sign a new contract.
No new investors materialise.
We return to mediocrity in mid table - or worse battling relegation.
Now... believe instead, as DM said in his post-match interview today, "the best times are yet to come", and remember "Once a blue, always a blue!"

Ok we lost today but we played ok and with a bit more luck might have got more from the game so on to the next game and chin up we will still finish in the top six so I think most of us would have taken that

2 things stood out for me today.... every everton player give absolutely 100% against the european champions and we more than matched a team that can spend an infinite amount of money to fill any position that they deem necessary, the likes of vic, johnny h, and jelli all been slated on here lately, sometimes unfairly although everyone has the right to their opinion, but no one deserves any critisisms for today,
secondly.....what a different game it could of been with a fussy referee, the ref tried his best to keep an excellent game flowing and i thought overall he had a superb game, anyway if we can keep repeating the effort & determimation like we showed today we will be more than okay, and will qualify for europe.......evertonpaul

Good game today, unlucky not to get a draw and thats from a Chelsea fan. Have to hand it to you, the pies are delicious! Nice stadium as well, passionate fans and great atmosphere for me, first ever Chelsea away game I've been to and I have to say our boys in blue and your boys in blue look top 4 quality at least. Which begs the question. Why do so many pundits seem to think Everton will not get in the top 4?
See you in Europe next year, looking forward to celebrate CL football on the final day of the season in our last (and hopefully irrelevant in terms of standings!) match.

Dont think anyone at the club should keep talking about "we are in discussions with interested
parties" because that has been the case for
the last few years apparently. Better to say
nothing happening than to wet the appetite
for something which we badly need but
clearly cant yet attract......if Robert Elstone is
going to say something, better to tell us how
they go about interesting parties, because
maybe some business people with Everton
in their hearts might have some better ideas
of how to draw the big money players in
these difficult market conditions.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

I wonder how Elstone is still in ajob. He was given the postion by default and has done nothing since... I wonder how much we waste in paying him!!

Really gutted we didnt get anything today. But i have to say i thought we were fantastic. The old problem of not taking our chances cost us in the end. I think we can be in and around fourth place come the end of the season .Happy new year fellow toffees. cheers Alastair

Well played today considering we were missing many key players, I like many others are becoming frustrated with jelavc but he hit the woodwork twice today and looked sharp he nneeds time and some competition, let's face I big vic is a joke regardless of what people say because he is lazy and does not have a clue the majority of the time, but we have fellaini back against the 'wee club from the north east'.

Phil, COYB

Believable2 Unbelievable10

Get real person. Vic played very well and was a threat throughout!

Agree0 Disagree0

I've been critical of Vic in the past, but the last few games he's played quite well, imo. I just think the lad needs more self-confidence. And DM is always in his ear from the touchline. I'd keep him in and give him a run, I think he might surprise quite a few people, myself included.

Agree0 Disagree0

Talking utter rubbish. Vic needs a lot credit for his efforts in the last three games and seems to be maturing a little. ready to push for a regular place. Barrym

I hear what your saying about jelavic ed and I think it's right we stick with him and don't get on his back but we aren't going to start putting teams to bed until we have an inform jelavic and tbh he's been out of form all season maybe he needs some competition? Because I wouldn't like to go into a match with just one striker even though vic is doing remarkably well at the moment! Another striker is needed and another centre back also how did Ross play for the last 10 or 15 minutes? Thanks ed and others
Blue D {Ed025's Note - i agree we need another striker mate...ross did not make much of an impact, its hard coming on that late..

Believable1 Unbelievable0

30 Dec 2012 15:50:50
Very unlucky today, good performance, could of been a different story if jelavic hadnt hit the woodwork twice. thought he had a decent game but gets caught offside alot. Distin was outstanding, surely we cant let him go?
Am afraid if Hitzlsperger and Naismith want too be part of the team they must try harder than their performance today. Big Vic, what can i say had a good game today held the ball up well and was a constant menace to there centre halfs, unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.. just one more thing are bench looks a bit weak when we have injuries, no disrespect to the lads on it, but there is no one on it i think that could change a game for us.. {Ed025's Note - i agree our bench is a bit weak, but considering we were without 3 of our most influential players, we gave the european champions a good run for their money, which should put us in good standing for the rest of the season..

Believable0 Unbelievable1

I watched the game and I honestly don't understand how oviedo doesn't get a look in over Naismith. Oviedo is much more energetic and creates a lot and uses his pace. I just can't see what Naismith offers us
Little Tim

Hitzs played well for me mate and very rarely gives the ball away. Just needs more game time - good squad player. Barrym

30 Dec 2012 15:48:13
Just not enough quality in the squad Im afraid, were paper thin. I watched it on the TV over here in Norway and I think I was watching a different game from the comentators. Over here they said Chelsea were the better team and we were lucky to only get beat 2-1.
I guess thats the way it goes for us at the moment.
Anyway 2 wins and a loss is better than 1 win and 2 draws or 3 draws, trying to keep the glass half full.

Everton are gonna make loan signings moyes already said that! So people are dreaming with the big name player they say we getting on here"!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Nobody is dreaming, we dont need a big name player, just some more decent squad players

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Dec 2012 15:43:57
Before we jump on individuals, as is most likely, we should remember that with a significantly weakened team we hit the woodwork 3 times today and I thought dominated territory and possession, at least should have taken 1 pt.

We hung in there at times though, as the centre half pairing of heitinga/distin just isn't tight enough, but playing Jags in his normal position would not have kept Hazard to 3-4 meaningful touches all game, so not sure what options DM had.

We are through the Fellaini-less period, into the transfer window and hopefully will start to get some injuries back with Gibson, Coleman, Hibbert, Mirallas hopefully on the mend. Not too many teams can go into a game vs the European Champions with 5 key first teamers missing and deserve to take the points.

Long way to go and 3 points off 4th. Heads up

NJY {Ed025's Note - great post that NJY...we should be very proud of the team today, sometimes you lose games, thats just a fact of life, but for me the team gave their all, and we more than matched them!, dont lets feel down about that game fellas, its onward and upwards and with a couple of additions, we have a lot to look forward to..

Believable7 Unbelievable0

Just wandering if hazzard will ever be marked out of a game like he was by jags today no matter were he plays he gives that type of performance every time felt a bit low at the end but when realising the quality missing 4th place aint out of are reach coyb oabaab

30 Dec 2012 15:30:36
Looks like Jelavic is a one season wonder half the player from last season. {Ed025's Note - thats unfair mate..the guy is giving 100% every game, very unlucky not to score again..give him a break..

Believable1 Unbelievable8

He would of buried that chance in the final moments last season, putting a bit of effort in is the minimum requirement for a professional.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jelovic is getting close played great today as did all the players proud of performance .we had a lot of important players missing against a team as good as any in premier important to take positives for me osman pienaar n baines completely outshone mata hazard n cole .really unlucky today {Ed025's Note - i agree mate..

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Distin deserves a mention there. He was equally as good as Ossie, Pienaar and Baines. He didn't deserve to be on the losing side, for me. Deserved at least a point there, just that bit of luck missing today. Excellent performance with largely a second string. Deserved more for the performance

Ant Wharton coyb!!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

When does Naismith ever have an exceptional game he doesn't offer anything to our team when he's in it oviedo should be getting a look in over him. Put pienaar right and oviedo left

To the poster who said 'we don't need him', even though he is past his best I think he'd be a great player to bring on if we were drawing and we needed a win. I was devastated when I heard Cahill was going just because he was the player that everyone looked to set the the tone of the game, I always remember when he first played Man Utd and straight from the kick off he just ran into Roy Keane and clattered him, making sure Keane knew who was boss. He always wore his heart on his sleeve and his commitment was unquestionable.

Not only do I think he'd be a great addition but I also think he may be the key to Champions League footy. He's undoubtedly a huge character in the dressing room and I think he'd give the players a massive boost just like Donovan has in previous years. So all I can say is Moyesy sign him up!

IMO we should be focusing on improving the players we have and not improving our rivals players. We've got Ross Barkley and Francisco Junior who play in Marins positions.

Are the takeover rumours true ed?

ToffeeMike {Ed025's Note - i have only heard the same speculation as you mike, i tend to not get too excited over it though, as we have been let down so many times..

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Personally I'd rather have massive investment than a complete takeover. We run a tight, well balanced and disciplined ship at Everton. I would not want someone to takeover the club and then start putting their own manager and players in ala chelsea and city. It's been said before on this site, better the devil you know.

Hi fellow blues ,

Does anyone know if we're back in for that Belgium lad that FIFA wouldn't sanction the loan for on the last day of the summer window as I understood it we went for the loan option as the paperwork was quicker, so maybe the money for him was available then and could still be.

Any thoughts
