I am telling you now no other team in the league this season will score 3 past Chelsea especially coming from a losing position they're so good at shutting up shop and soaking up.the pressure.

We look very good going forward and composed in possession, last season we had our best defensive record with Distan and Stones at the back maybe that is the best partnership, although I personally think Jags is just having a bad time and is our best defender. My prediction for the season is we finish 4 th only Chelsea, City are better than us Spurs, Arsenal and the rubbish are similar and they can not replace Shergar.

Keep the faith top 4 this year.

Gutted for you guys today, really thought you were going to catch them during the 11 minute goal fest. RM is doing fantastic things for your club, and you've had a really difficult start to the season with Arsenal and Chelsea, I don't think the results will be a reflection of your season as a whole. Despite the fact I usually get bashed when I come on here, again, I really hope to see Liverpool and Everton in the CL next season. Good luck for the season guys

Away from all the negative stuff, well done again today to steven naismith, the boy is becoming a fan favourite and epitomises everything everton, never gives in, works hard and plays for the shirt, the lad is a class act

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - you probably know i dont need convincing swan, as you say mate...class act..

30 Aug 2014 22:02:55
Are there any center backs that's genuinely interested in liam Moore from Leicester seems a decent lad and Davies from hull plus that Toby bloke falling that. I'll settle for Kevin ratcliffe

I like davis and alderwhatever, both suit our style, davis would be a lot but alder is available on loan, alder can play right back too (he isn't quick bur can cross, doesn't lose it and can go forward), for me, toby is perfect, suits our play style, is available on loan, everton only do loans so its a match made in heaven, please bobby

Hi Eds
How much do you see us having left in the transfer pot?
I'm assuming we would want to keep a bit back for next window just in case.
I would still like us to go in for another couple of players.
Central defender, right back and attacking centre mid. I think we will then have the depth to compete alround and rotate squad which now looks quite balanced.

Do you think we will bring in some Barcelona talent?

AW

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i think we still have money AW, but whether we choose to spend it is another thing, our defence was very poor today and thats where we should strengthen imo..

30 Aug 2014 21:31:35
I've just re-watched the match to make sure I hadn't imagined what I'd previously seen.
Jags cannot play in a Martinez system, he was great under Moyes playing hoof ball but he has no pace, can't pass, can't mark, and gets caught out of position too many times, Stones is there sat on the bench - I just don't understand it, a centre half that plays football with Distin to stay back and cover, is this not clear for all to see? Sort that defence out and we've got a team #shambles

Oh dear. Jags has got to be dropped but I'll admit I'm a bit worried for this season. Conceding 6 with extremely poor defending is scary. Also 10 in three games is not good.

If it was a one off poor defending performance I'd be more forgiving but this is 3 games now and we are moving backwards.

I backed martinez the other day on here but today I'm eating humble pie.

On another note can't believe there's only 4mil difference between Lukaku and Costa. He was superb for them today.

IMWT just!

Not a rumour just a fact. We need two top class defenders in now to sort the mess out at the back, it's cost us in our first 3 games.

Absolute shambles & totally shocked tonight. What has happened to our defense this season, jags can no longer play in this system & his confidence is totally shot since the World Cup, For Distin it's a season too far. but more worrying is the lack of cover & protection being offered to the back 4 from 2 outstanding defensive midfielders from last season - Barry & McCarthy.Barry has looked slow & disinterested & quite content/or not with his new 3 year contract on much lower wages, & McCarthy has been simply awful & maybe has been unsettled by interest from Man utd? Our defense keep standing off the opposition attackers allowing them to score too easily & we simply just cannot defend or even do the basics properly & keep leaving massive holes for the opposition to exploit. I think the Shambolic pre-season planning hasn't helped as so many of our players don't look 100% & Lukaku 28 million?!? Naghhh, sorry nowhere near that at the moment, he doesn't look fit which is disgraceful for a professional footballer. & so I could on & on & on.but I won't as I don't have the time too. any positives from tonight's defensive embarrassment? I thought Etoo looked superb, his movement & sharpness & finish for his goal was world class, in fact everything that the rest of our team wasn't!! Our attacking play is looking good at times, but you have to be able to defend in the premier league as well, not Wigan fc style but Everton dare I say it Moyesesque style. we desperately now need to buy a couple of defenders before the end of the window & cover for Ross whilst he's out injured as I feel we are missing him in the centre at the mo. so what's the answer to all this then?!? I say bring Tony Pulis in as defensive coach only, least then we'll be able defend & Bobby can worry about the attacking side of play as that appears to be all he's coached so far this season!! Another gripe - what the hell has happened to our set pieces & corners for the 2 seasons now?!? We can never seem to take them properly or pick out our own players from set play. obviously something else not coached on the training field. let his is simply not good enough boys. in fact I've almost detected a somewhat cavalierish/sloppy type of attitude from both manager & players alike so far this season, whether it's new contracts & raised pay packets that have caused it I just don't know, but what I do know is that we have a real problem as a team at the moment & if we don't sort it quickly, we can kiss goodbye to another top 4/5/6 finish this season. Bobby, Re you listening mate - this Everton fc, not Wigan Athletic! :(

A bad day at the office, but I've seen plenty of similar days in over fifty years of supporting Everton, as well as plenty of victories and exhilarating team & individual performances along the way.
There's clearly a lot for RM to work on and put right - in particular (obviously!) defensively - but there was also lots of good attacking play to give us confidence for the future.
Jagielka and Distin were shaky, Howard could (should?) have been sent off, and what was Besic thinking of? Also, many incorrect refereeing & linesman decisions - both for and against us.
So, to all of you: drown your sorrows this evening, cry into your beer, and come back supporting our team all the stronger.

Before I get on to the negatives I want to say there were so many positives today that the score line will hide. Mirrallas mcgeady and once again naismith were all outstanding for me today. And what I wasnt expecting was how effective eto would be he was a real threat as soon as he come on. Once lukaku is up to speed we don't have to worry about our front line this season in my opinion. Now for the negatives. It is becoming more and more clear that we can no longer play jags and distan together at the back without looking completley vunlerable. With barry playing in front of them its just too much at once. We were torn apart today every time chelsea attacked we panicked. Stones needs to replace jags for me and a dominant centre half is now a priority. All the hard work from last season is in danger of evaporating unless we sort this out. Also lukaku is clearly still some way from being match sharp, hopefully the international break will give him the time he needs because for me he's been a passenger for the last 3 games we can ill afford.

No ratings, usually I come on here and moan after we do an everton, but not today, thought coleman, barry, mirallas and naismith were superb, eto'o looked boss when he came on, jagielka, i'd probably say that is the worst performance by a centre back I've ever seen, even heitinga against villa looked credible compared to that, I left before the sixth goal went in, I know he was at fault for four of the goals, costa scored four didn't he? Jagielka made koldrup look like beckenbauer, he needs to be dropped now!, attacking wise we were very good, but evertime they shot it went in! Onto some more annoying stuff, the linesman on the far end, he is the worst linesman ever, he was behind play constantly!, I can't believe i'm saying this, tom cleverley is a better footballer than this pr*ck is a linesman, that was also the worst away crowd I've ever heard, your team scores 6 and I didn't hear a peep all game, positives:attacking, etoo, bobby going two up top, naismith, mirallas, barry and coleman were boss, negatives:everything else, if I hear one person say mcgeady was the worst player I will scream, stones has to play next game, please bobby, we also need another centre back who can play right back, can defend and play it out from the back (alderwiereld is available on loan, come on everton, its perfect!), we have 2 very hard games out the way (leicester and chelsea), we now need to push on, tighten up the defence (in other words, get jagielka out the team) and I believe we can have a real go, please everton whatever you do on deadline day, just don't do an everton and annoy everyone, enjoy the rest of your day (united still can't win,, but neither can we so yeah, bye) if you can

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2014 08:20:08
So we've conceded 10 goals in 3 games, at least 5 were Jagielka's fault. I'm going to stick my neck out and say that we would have 7 points now if Stones had started the season in Jagielka's place. We definitely need another CB, preferably one who can play RB, so Alderweireld or Richards (if he can stay fit) on loan would be good.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jagielka was terrible last night and I wanted him subbed by half time. Jagielka has been struggling since near the end of last season. Our defence always looks shaky at the start of the season but then it tightens up. let's hope it tightens up sooner rather than later or we will concede far too many goals.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2014 20:29:28
Well if today was not going to be hard enough as it was but to give 2 goals away in first 3 mins against a for me title winners but hey defending was shocking mainly jags and distin apart from that we were brilliant going forward especially 2nd half stones must come in now although distin is older I think he is better than jags his time is over you do not play offside against a guy like costa, mirallas was great as was Naismith went toe to toe with two of the best sides in prem but defending is costing us at start of season I thought we had enough defensive cover but now we need to sign someone Micah Richards cheap option who is class when he can get a game and if he is playing regularly should get england call up

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed018's Note - Everton played well today. Clearly controlled large portions of the match. Chelsea clearly took their chances brilliantly. Keep playing that way and you'll be fine. Your defense will sort it out}

30 Aug 2014 20:25:09
Defence needs a total overhaul, jags needs to remember he's playing for Everton and not England. No matter who you're playing to conceed six at home is not acceptable.

30 Aug 2014 19:49:45
You could not print, what I would like to say, but getting mad, would just be a distraction from what must be done. Time has caught up with our two defenders, before monday night, action must be taken to save our season.

30 Aug 2014 19:27:07
So proud of our team after that game personally I only say one poor performance which was from Jags other than that I feel the scoreline didn't reflect the game at all so proud to be a blue right now if we play like that most games we will do well this season COYB!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 Aug 2014 18:32:21
Jags had got to be dropped
3 mistakes in 3 games and don't fore this mistakes in the World Cup. He's shocking been saying he's need tongi since bobby took over never a look confident on the ball we need to go for alderwield who would also cover right back

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 Aug 2014 19:10:59
9 goals in 3 games but pass the ball beautifully. We really are resembling a Martinez team but for all the wrong reasons. Well done to Eto'o and Stevie Naismith. Jags needs to be dropped permanently. Great game for the neutral. Pity I'm not one.

Agree0 Disagree0

Who actually comes out of that performance with any credit? Howard should have been sent off, jags was awful as has become the norm, besic will be happy to forget his cameo whilst Lukaku reminded us just how important Eto'o could be this season. Every time the opposition have had the ball this season we look like we'll concede a goal. Worrying times.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2014 19:36:51
Totally agree eddy jags is woeful he needs to be dropped if anyone else was making these mistakes they would be dropped instantly

Agree0 Disagree0

To be a top team you not only have to have top players but you also nedd top decision makers. So Bobby, it's time for you to make one.

Reshuffle your defence. Let them know that performances that don't improve cost you your place.

No one should be allowed to come to Goodison and score six goals.

We have scored 7 goals in 3 games and only 2 points to show for it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Magnificent and awful in one performance. That is the best team that will come to Goodison this season, however Jags was awful, we can't really afford to but Besic should spend 6 months in the reserves for that. Mug.
We dominated the game but conceded 6 goals, that is staggering and worrying, we dominated last week and conceded 2 could have been 3.
Bobby M I love the way we play the game it's fantastic but can you hire Moyes back as a defence coach?

30 Aug 2014 18:00:14

We have just let that Duffy go Do you think Bobbys making a bit of room

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He needs to make enough room for the coach to drive straight on the pitch and do the defences job for them.

Imo sinclair is s**t and we have enough wingers and Richards is to injury prone. Why bother wasting money.

A mate of mine is a contractor and has just returned home from carrying out some work in the Liverpool area and he told me that he was havin a pint in a pub after work and overheard a conversation between a couple of blokes who were saying that Everton have been able to attract the likes of Lukaku and Eto as well as re signing our youngsters due to the fact that there is a takeover/investment into the club that's imminent. Please don't shoot the messenger I'm just repeating what he reckons he's over heard. I for one don't believe a word of it, I just thought I would share it with you all

A phrase I've heard is 'succession planning' and it seems clear to me that RM's recruitment policy is geared not only to having a strong team/squad for the here & now that's a good blend of youth and experience, but is also geared to bringing in young talent (e.g. Galloway) - alongside the current U-18 and U-21 players - who will develop and learn RM's style of play before making the (hopefully seamless) transition into the first team. The Galloway scenario is succession planning in my eyes - and, in his case, as the eventual successor to Distin. Stones is the eventual successor to Jagielka. Add Browning to those two and we should have three good centre backs in our future first team squad. Plus they'll all be classed as home grown players.
With players like Ledson (surely the eventual successor to Barry or Gibson) coming through - as well as a few others - it's clear to me that RM is organising the club's playing resources for the short, medium and long term.
He's the right one, he's the bright one, he's Martinez!

I heard an unbelievable rumor that the official Everton FC website was finally going to figure out how to mic their news conferences so that the reporters weren't 10 times as loud as the manager or players being interviewed. Seriously I have to turn my computer speakers up to 11 just to hear them answer the questions.

30 Aug 2014 00:53:30
By common consent amongst our fans - or so it seems - there is very little confidence in Robles as backup goalkeeper to Howard.
However, unless RM brings in another (experienced) goalkeeper - which does seem unlikely - it looks like we're stuck with Robles until one of our youngsters (we now have 5, having just signed Hunt from Blackpool to join Stanek, Griffiths, Hewelt and O'Loughlin) has developed enough to be good enough for the first team.
Is there anyone amongst this website's posters who is NOT concerned about our backup goalkeeping situation?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 Aug 2014 11:41:20
Personally, I'm not too concerned. People forget he's still very young for a Keeper and has time to learn. Yes, he's unconventional at times but he is a decent shot stopper and has proved (to me anyway) that he has the potential to become a great keeper. He reminds me a lot like De Gea when he first joined Utd, so I feel that he will come good. I hope.
