Last season we played some lovely football and lost games. Saturday we were poor and got a draw. Tonight we were poor and got a draw. In both games we have only looked any good when the teams have sat back and tried to hold on to their lead. I think we are being to predictable and from time to time need to play the longer pass from the back. Teams are happy to press us up the pitch because they know our style. We have the pace up top so let's use it.

I thought we looked like England in the first 70mins but promising last 20 though and result that counts. We still not got going this season thought Gibson looked rusty to be expected and hibbo at times but good to see his tackle when chased back and nobody mention mcgeady I thought he was our next best player after stones.

That was total cr*p. We do not appear to have any game plan, opposition simply told to hazzle our back line into errors.
People saying we got out of Jail, yes just like at Anfield.
Hope we are not on 'Dog the Bounty Hunters' list because we are being found out boys and I am getting worried.

Up against a very good team last night considering we played without four of our best players in McCarty Coleman Barkley and Naismith I think it was a good result also a good result on sat with these players back I think will destroy teams hopefully starting with Manu they are very weak at the back at the moment and a win would put us right back up there and confidence would be high

Not the best of performances tonight. In the first half we looked rusty (with no excuses had we put a reserve side out tonight). Howard kept us in the game with several good saves. The second half looked better with Romelu on for Atsu, but this was a 'get of jail game' for Everton. We deserved to be down overall as they broke free time and time again. Where was Gibson in midfield? We missed JMac in midfield big time. But we gained a result against the run of play through Ett'o with a nice finish with 15/20 minutes to go. It was only then that we looked comfortable against the supposedly the worst team in the group. Worrying times ahead in this campaign?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We're missing Barkley and mirrallas - hang in their guys - good start to the campaign :)

we have to stop this sloppy defending and passing we do not look half the team we were last year, I hope rm nibs this in the bud asap as its worrying and also reminiscent of wigan, first year he had a record year then struggled I hope to god its not a reapeat sometimes mr nice guy needs to get angry an tell them wake up, we had 3rd best defence last year to worst so far this year and the passing is woeful. needs to be addresed!!

Well, when you're playing horrible stuff (and we are) it's better to stand tall and dig in. 1 point saved. I hope RM has a plan to hand to find the winning mentality again, even if as I speak, the defence is not leaking goals. God willing, this will be a quick win plan as I am fancing see us play like this week in, week out. COYB!

1-1, I'd have snapped your hand off for that at half time. We didn't set the world on fire with that display but thought Stones was immense, so elegant and cultured in the tackle, so comfortable in possession and distribution getting better with each game. As it stands (Lille and Wolfsberg still playing) we're top of the group by 2 points, not happy days yet but getting there slowly but surely. COYB.

{Ed025's Note - not the greatest game azul, but it nwas all about getting a result mate...so job done in my eyes..

Terrible performace but win home drw away is how you get through this team drew with arguably the hardest team in our group at lille so good result, that said we need to improve the only positive from the start we have had is we have scored every game, passing and defending is poor atm.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed we were a shambles why they reverted to defending I don't know because they had us penned in big time, prob the worst av seen us play and the result over shadows how bad we actually were, the only positive was stones who was are best player bay a mile

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - we went to do a job mike, was it pretty?...no, we are in a bit of a slump mate but a points a point and we traveled a long way, so that was the aim which was achieved..onwards and upwards i say..

Being positive has it's merits Ed

However it has it's limitations too

This particular glass is seemingly more half empty than half full imo

Time for a review on defence and it's not in the 'clubs DNA'

It's in the managers hands because he calls the shots!

The bucks stops there full stop.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - so what do we do 247?...sack the manager?..stop supporting the club?...last season bobby was the next coming, now it seems he is turning us into wigan after half a dozen games!!!..come on mate, i appreciate your concerns and share some of them, but we will turn it around, we have too much quality not to mate..

Im not the pessimist by any means but that was the worse 70 mins av ever seen the passing was a joke and they looked clueless, i'm convinced if one of our players was threw on goal he'd of turned and hit it 70 yards back to Howard, this all stems back to per season in my eyes

I completely understand people's frustration witrh the lack of urgency and clumsy mistakes at the back this season, afterall we have commonly through history had such good defensive records and very difficult to beat. This said I don't think the buck lies with the players, they are still adapting to the new style of play which roberto and his team are implementing at the club, the silly mistakes are down to this. Gaz barry last season was so reliable for us, but this season has faultered both defensively and his ball playing from the back as teams are coming out and pressing high up the pitch. Likewise Jagielka is faultering due to the pressure on him being the last line of defense and being asked to play football instead of hoofball which he had known for the majority of his career. I think it may be one season too far for slyvan who has looked shakey also, but the one common denominator to the problems defensively that I would look at is who is coaching them the style of play. Not necessarily Martinez as he gives that reign to his defensive coach dennis lawrence, who incidentally was on his coaching staff at wigan. I would like to see an experienced defensive coach who is hard in his approach to defending first and passing second. I would also love to see someone like sheedy to come into the coaching fold to help with corners and set pieces.

Ed0025

Sacking RM is the last thing I would advocate at this early stage

However we are shipping goals, so much so that it must be emboldening other PL managers

Addressing this issue surely must become paramount!

All I'm asking as a fan (who would never overly demonstrate this at a match btw) is some sign of this.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - things are not going to plan 247, we have looked out of sync this season up to now, but its basically the same squad that came so near last year to making the top 4, so i expect things to pick up soon. i agree that the defence is a worry mate, but if you look at our players there we are talking top class seasoned internationals, individual errors have cost us and taken its toll on confidence, but its nothing that wont improve in the near future imo..

Blue 247 I agree 100% that sacking RM is not what i'm looking for, last season was refreshing and enjoyable but we seem to run out of ideas, we continue this slow passing round the back often giving it away and act like set pieces are not important, it was frustrating last year dominating games and drawing but we don't seem to be able to take any control this year and we need a kick up the behind

Big well done to the lads tonight great point not the best of games but will settle for that, would be better if fans got behind them instead of all this doom, c'mon we are all Blues

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Guernsey I don't get this stance that no matter what we should not be diapointed, these forms are the place to vent your frustration and for 70 odd mins we were nothing short of a shambles

Agree0 Disagree0

So what ju want mike, let's play good and get beat, like las season.we had half a team missing.theres no pleasing some people

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes we have not clicked yet but with a full fit squad I think things will be very dif going forward we will be very dangerous Martinez has a style of play he wants and for me if we are to really reach the top again then we need to stick to it by sticking to this style through this tough period will benifit us I'm sure give it time let it gel we have an amazing young squad financially we are pretty good in twenty years as an Everton fan this is by far the most excited I've bin under Martinez we will win trophies I'm sure

Agree0 Disagree0

Play good and get beat we have won one game since pre season begin and we seem to have lost the ability to pass but you take the draw and dress it up how you want despite the fact they shoulda been 4up. the only people I was happy for was the away fans that tavelled

We struggled to pass to our own men tonight. Ran into trouble and generally poor decision making. Slow and predictable. Lukaku held ball up better tonight and was the only positive. Take the draw but we need to wake up.

Has Atsu always been garbage? Chelsea must've seen something. I haven't as yet.

I don't get it, atsu is doing exactly what deulofeu did last season but deulofeu got his backside kissed, too early to judge atsu, remember he's not played for chelsea yet, 3 premier league games in his career, he just needs to find himself more space which h will learn with game time, give him a chance

Agree0 Disagree0

Come on swan finding space is a basic he's not new to football and they were hardly all behind the ball that first half

Agree0 Disagree0

God relax he has barely played a game give him a chance and for me I would love to c deulofeu back can only add to the squad

What is going on Gibson is awful etoo thinks he's playing left back sort it out get besic on and lukaku on

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You think that will make a difference we can't pass to save are lives and when we do have it, its all slow and preditable, obvious we lack without barkley its kinda shocking

02 Oct 2014 17:41:51
We look very poor so far tonight. Osman, Hibbert, Gibson look out of place and shouldn't be playing. I would rather see the kids and naismith.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree, we seem to be missing McCarthy as well I think, think we should bring Naismith and browning and rom

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't watch this anymore we've gone backwards after last season

Hello lads, could anybody shed abit of light on the "Kone" situation? I'm struggling to understand how Bryan Oviedo can suffer a double leg break and be back in the side before him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Leg brakes generally can be easier to mend than ligaments, although at the moment I diubt he would even make a difference may aswell give the 6mil (plus wages) to that messanger on 300 and kicked it down the hole
