Anybody got a serious view as to why the rags never linked DM with signing any of our players for his current club? They link almost every other club with them.

They did, Oviedo, Gibson and Kone.

What a difference a season makes. Goals are back at Everton this season and our top 6 attacking players are a joy to watch.

The difference Ged makes is huge. He would be third in the goals and assists for last season already but he's not the only one:

1. Big Rom 8 goals 4 assists
2. Kone 5 goals 3 assists
3. Ross 4 goals 4 assists
4. Ged Def 2 goals 6 assists
5 Naisy 4 goals 0 assists
6. Kev 1 goal 1 assist

Not a bad start to the season and just a quarter of the way through!

Del boy is growing on me with every minute he plays. Hope he cuts out the diving though. Not overly bothered with his lack of tracking back. If he continues the way he is he'll have one hell of a season and the tracking back won't be as big of an issue.

Competition really hotting up for places. Mirallas, Clev, Baines, Pienaar, Osman, Besic all either just back or will be back in for the next game. It will great for the players to push each other if they stay injury free. Bit of a headache for Martinez.

He puts so much into running at defenders that sometimes a bit of leeway is needed, sometimes we get the box and play pass the buck not wanting to lose it he gets it and first thought I'd can I beat him, refreshing.

NBTB 'not tracking back' live at the game and watching it at home twice more the bloke was everywhere, think you are being a bit harsh there mate.

Agree Blue mate but not Osman, he has had his day, but don't worry about him he will get a job in the staff, its full of jobs for the boys, there nights out must be brill, LOL.

Duncansmum I'm not being one bit harsh on Del boy. I'm giving him loads of praise. Just look at my posts. The reason I mentioned 'tracking back' was because someone was giving out that he wasn't tracking back enough. That comment was more for them than my opinion really.

Someone mentioned him being a golden boy or something in the Sunderland game. I can't remember who it was. I made a comment then after that saying you couldn't give out about him. He scored one and set up 2. As I said in previous posts, I'm very excited about Del boy and I think he's only going to get better.

If you look at any of my posts I'm praising Del boy. He'd be one of the first names on the team if I was picking it. He adds so much going forward and helps bring out the best in Lukaku. His tracking back has improved plenty.

I made the 'golden boy' comment. Not because I have any particular problem with Deulofeu but merely to highlight that certain players (Doofy and Mirallas in particular) seem exempt from criticism while others are constantly picked on.

If it had been McGeady or Ossie who just stood and watched their man go forward like that they would have been torn apart by people on here. However people were actually making excuses for Doofy like 'we've got2 def mids it's not his job'. Hence the golden boy comment.

I have no problem with criticism as long as it's fair and the same for everyone.

Imo Doofy and Mirallas are like Suarez or Sterling i. e in it for their own glory. And are not team players like Ossie or Lennon or Kone for example! But yet people love them and hardly ever criticize them.

They are quality players who can change a game but should watch how someone like David Silva plays if they ever want to be great players!

I know where your coming from aflm78 and I agree with a lot of what your saying. No one said 'we have 2 def midf, its not his job'.

What was said is that 2 places out of 11 is sacrificed so other players can concentrate and play to their strengths i. e. attacking. Its just a tactical and positional thing. If that's the game plan so be it.

I have criticized Mirallas before as I do like him. I find him very hot and cold. Del boy is still very young and is improving in every aspect of his game imo.

They are both top players and I think its good to try and fit them in to the team. I understand when you say they are not team players like Kone, Oassie and Lennon.

But isn't it good to have a different blend of players to work off different strengths and game plans?

I also know where your coming from in regards players getting abuse. I stood up for my fair share of them. Kone, Clev and even McGeady.

In fairness Mirallas and Del boy are very talented and I'd much prefer and have them at the club. I don't think they are immune from criticism. I've seen both get their fair share of criticism. At times too much.

Guess they'll all get criticism and praise. Suppose it depends more on the fans dishing out the criticism and praise rather than the players really. Sad I know but that's the reality of it.

Naismith also gets flack from fans that I absolutely detest. Not only is he a top professional who gives his everything for the club. He's a decent human being who is very generous to the fans and deserves every bit of praise that goes his way.

When I did my most improved player below, said Kone but I think Rom has improved so much this season. Chelsea, 2nd half vs West Brom, Liverpool, Southampton. Even against Utd he was bullying people, his touch and hold up play has improved a lot. The ball is sticking to him and he is much more reliable in possession. Shame he is isolated so much, hope Martinez sticks with Kone as a left forward, helps Rom with the dirty work and they link up so well. Not just yesterday either, same last season, so much better with a partner. Too often he will have to move 2 players out the way by himself and then have another 3 players to beat because everyone is stood on the halfway line watching. He's come on leaps and bounds and considering people call him "lazy", he's been integral in 10 of our last 12 goals.

In my opinion he looks lazy and struggles 90% of the time with his 1st touch.

Watching yesterday who else noticed the upscale in play once Kone went up top and Lukaku played in the No 10 role. Barkley is also learning that to make a pass he should first get his head up. Sorry for Oviedo but we do look a more positive attacking force with Galloway as LB. I hope RM sticks to this style from now on.

I don't think the team selection helps Rom at times to be honest. He is far better when he has somebody to link up with, as has been shown when Kone has been in the team with him. When he is on his own up front he gets isolated from play which can make him look lazy.
As you say Swan, he has improved a few aspects of his game this season, it's frightening to think what he could be like in a few years time, I just hope he is still with us then.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Nov 2015 15:18:09
Rom's main problem when playing as the lone striker is his first touch, often with his back to goal he needs a couple of ouches to get it under before laying it off.
Yesterday he often got the ball facing goal and able to take time to pick a pass.

Me too spudv, I never understood why people call him lazy, I think it's the mindset from the likes of Marcus Bent, Straqualersi and Jelavic. Hard workers, not very good Footballers, give me a Dimitar Berbatov over a Kevin Doyle any day. The older fans don't seem interested in the quality of a player, just whether he runs around a lot. In terms of keeping him, it's vital, best striker we've had in a long time, one of the top 10 in England easily. But, to be honest, I wouldn't want to play for Everton, I would because I'm an Evertonian but anyone else, I wouldn't touch us with a barge pole. I'm an Evertonian and it drives me crazy when we boo our own players, so imagine what the players think. Joel just going about his business, in his back garden with his Girlfriend just chilling out, reads comments of Blues calling him every name under the sun. Arouna Kone, gets ready to come on vs Watford, gets booed on to the pitch by his own fans. Swear we are the only fans who do it, or at least, the only fans where the majority do it.

I am very critical of Big Rom as he plays like Little Rom most of the time.

He is getting better and stronger but the difference recently is he is getting tougher. He is getting in defenders faces now and using his physique and it showed in the Derby recently when he gave Sakho a dig in the ribs.

This is the Rom I want to see as it unsettles the defence. More of the same from Big Rom please.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - to be honest John it's not just about his physicality, there has been times when the service to him has been poor, a player like him needs service like Gerry can supply at times but on a consistent basis..

02 Nov 2015 18:59:25
When balls are played in front of Rom to run onto he is lethal, he needs support around him and I believe both Gerry and Kone should be starting as both bring out the best in Lukaku and a front 3 like that can cause any defence problems. The lazy shouts are well. lazy, he is a frontman and shouldn't be chasing back because then were is the outball if our striker is in his own half?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - very true gray..

02 Nov 2015 22:30:21
I agree Swan, Lukaku probably is the most improved player. Come to think of it Kone couldn't be most improved as basically he didn't get playing until this season. I know people were criticising him, which I never understood. How can you say someone is a bad player when he has barely played? I stood up for him when people were giving him abuse.

Not many doing it now. Rom Lu is much better now. I was slightly critical of him as he has looked lazy at times. Not so much lately. Last week I was actually moaning because he wasn't getting the ball enough. He should be given the ball at every opportunity. There would be no stopping him if he got more of the ball.

His cross yesterday was top notch. Imo, yesterday his first touch not only improved but it was as good as you could ask for. If he keeps that part of his play and Del boy along with Kone keep doing their thing, top 4 is a genuine possibility.

Although I wouldn't get carried away with yesterday's win. They were very poor. It makes a fantastic platform for the players to build on. Will no doubt build confidence and encourage the players to chase games. Good run until Xmas at least me thinks. Martinez could have a job to handle the squad if they stay injury free. Not a bad complaint for a manager or club supporters. COYB's.

A great result yesterday and really pleased for Kone, he really needed that confidence boost.
However let's not get to carried away as we still looked very shaky and were often exposed at the back and could easily have been two down! A better side would not have fallen apart quite so easily. I realise that the constant changing of the back four doesn't help settle things and that Funes Mori is still settling in and looks a decent aquisition.
What I think we really need is a leader from the back or a midfield general just to pull things together when we are under pressure, this is the player we have been missing over the last couple of years and needs to be brought in by next season as a real priority.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - for me wakka Ross has to get more involved, we all know he has the ability but he has to stop all this tippy tappey nonsense with the ball and stamp his name on things, he is a big strong powerful lad but flatters to deceive all the time and for me needs a good kick up the arse, for christs sake Ross start running at people and strike the fear of God into opposition teams like we know you can.

02 Nov 2015 10:46:33
Spot on ed, noticed too many times he picked up the ball in space and rather than run at people, he took 3 or 4 unnecessary touches and just played the easy pass. Their midfielders are so poor, when he did take the ball and run with it they couldn't get it off him. I like that he isn't hiding in games anymore but he does need to get involved rather than hoping someone else does it.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - I'm not rubbishing the guy swan it's just that he frustrates me so much mate, I'm desperate for him to do well as he's from my area and it's great to see a young local lad progress, but I don't know whether it's the coaching, the set up or a lack of self belief that seems to lnhibit him, he can be so much better and if he got it together the team could be awesome..

02 Nov 2015 10:56:57
Totally agree Ed, what happened to the Ross a while back who charged at them, how often does he shoot now too, I know he isn't a defender but he seriously needs to track back a bit too, terrible at one point yesterday in particular where he just trotted 2 metres behind their player when they were pouncing on us, he only needed to break stride and he would have gotten a tackle in, he has all the ability but for me seems to be held back a bit, not sure if that's the way Bobby wants it but would prefer him running at players every now and then instead of looking for a pass the second he receives the ball.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - as soon as he gets the ball it seems like he can't wait to get rid of it degs, is this the manager dictating this or a lack of confidence ?...I have watched him since he was a kid and this is not the same guy I can tell you mate..

02 Nov 2015 11:09:35
I think it's the manager Ed, not knocking Bobby as he may have a bigger plan involved for the lad i. e. getting his passing ability improved before progressing him to all out running at opponents, he was a bit flappy and his first touch wasnt the best but these are greatly improved now, don't know mate just guessing but that's all I can think of as any manager certainly would not want to lose or remove the ability Ross had for running at players.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - if it is Bobby he's wrong to stifle him in any way degs, let him off the leash and let's see him flourish..

02 Nov 2015 11:53:40
Agreed Ed025, Ross is a great talent and a big lad to boot, and you are so right he should be far more dominant he sometimes looks a bit lost and dwells on the ball to often rather than as you say running at and committing defenders, yesterday he was guilty of under hit passes that also could have cost, however all said he does come up with a pass or a goal this year.
