Good win today. but when will jelavic score looks a complete different finisher from last season is he a one season wonder. ryanfromleic {Ed025's Note - we are all having doubts ryan...especially him mate..

I am worried as well Ed but he' working so hard at the moment and has been much better in recent weeks he will score eventually I don't think he'll ever score as regularly as he did when he first came but he can certainly do a good job.

Fantastic improvement from the blue boys today. Mirallas and Pienaar seem to be coming into form and another game without a goal for Jelavic. When is he going to score?

COYB {Ed025's Note - you tell me mike...he looks shot mate..

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Just, now, the man cannot buy a goal, but he is a class act, he will, IMO, come good, he is just as likley to score a golal a game for the rest of the season, plus, in or out of form, he is giving 100%.

Agree0 Disagree0

In fairness before jelavic was rested it was getting to the stage where he wasn't even having a shot in games. at least in last couple he is getting into good positions again.

For all those deluded Jelavic supporters, are you convinced yet he should not be playing? He seems to be getting progressively worse, which I thought highly unlikely. What does he have to do to get benched? And you can't keep saying he's not getting the service, because he's missed at LEAST a half dozen 'sitters'. I'm afraid he was either a half season wonder or Moyes asks him to do too much and he's absolutely baked. I suspect it's the former and he hit a 'purple patch' when he first arrived. Now defenders are wise to him he looks out of his depth at this level. {Ed025's Note - im a big fan, but im having doubts now..

Believable5 Unbelievable2

I think we all agree that last season Jelavic was class and you don't lose that overnight. I think his loss of form is a combination of too much workrate, a general loss of confidence and some old-fashioned bad luck! He needs a lift, a simple tap in, or one to go in off his backside, anything! and I'm sure he will prove once again that he is a class act. We're not at the stage where he is a liability and I think that he needs to be able to play his way back into form.

Beatty, Johnson Yakubu, to an extent Saha, now Jelavic. Sorry but Moyes does insist on strikers running themselves silly.
Good performance yesterday, pace and skill on both flanks, hopefully the slump is over.

any news on the teamsheet today. I predict 3-1 with fellani, piennar and jelevic

Great news, the Slovak Casillas is starting. We've lost before we've even started! Can see a howler coming today from the home keeper, I'd rather we played Springthorpe than Mucha do about nothing.

I really hope moyes shocks us all and doesn't play either: naismith, Neville, heitinger or little ossie. Why not go for.

Howard
Baines
Distan
Coleman
peanuts
Gibson
felli
mirallas
Jellyman
velios.

Fingers crossed moyes goes for the win and not a safe boring dull negative draw.

Are you psychic? You must have a crystal ball to know that Jags would get injured and we'd end up playing with 10, JH included of course

Is it just me or is it just a coincidence that our strikers only seem to score in their first season?.

Could it be that it's the way they are managed, expected to drop deep and collect the ball like Jelavic has been doing this season. Instead of playing high up the pitch, finding space in the box and poaching goals. by the end of the first season they've had this drummed out of them.

Saha, Yakubu, Jelavic.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Yakubu actually had a better record in his 2nd and 3rd seasons I think, but tbf he went on and scored goals at blackburn. Think it could be effecting Jelly though

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry I meant Saha, not Yakubu

Agree0 Disagree0

Yakubu shouldn't really be counted as he suffered that serious achilles injury and wasn't the same after that.

But I really do think you have a point, Jelavic especially is an interesting case. Last season, the lad stuck to the penalty box and barely left it, and it is his style of play, he is a finisher and they need to be in the penalty box. This season however, I think he is trying too much to do the "team thing. " I know that might seem ridiculous, but strikers need to be selfish, I am sick of seeing Jelavic running the channels, and especially see him putting in crosses to no-one in the penalty box.

Don't know if Moyes has told him to do that, or he has adapted that himself, but if I was Moyes, I would tell Jelavic to stick to the penalty box and he will start slotting again.

Just saw an article online which was a bit of eye opener regarding Jelavic drawing a blank in front of goal this season!
Last season in his 16 games, he spent 16% of his time outside the box when the ball was in the final third and 84% of the time he was in the box, when the ball was in play he chased down the opposition on average 6 times every 90 minutes.
This season he has played 26 times and spent a staggering 64% of his time outside of the box when Everton attack in the final third and just 36% of the time in the box. He also closing down the opposition more often in games, on average 13 times each 90 minutes.
I'm not big on stats but these are interesting numbers don't you think.
I read a post on here a few days ago saying we need the lazier Jelavic back. I couldn't agree more!

Al down to moyes, s tactics steve full stop. How to turn a goalscorer into a marathon runner in one season.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think that has been the main difference between Jelavic of last season and Jelavic this season. The lad is a FINISHER, those players need to be in the penalty box, not delivering crosses from the flanks to no-one.

Really has infuriated me this season when I see him continually running the flanks, he needs to be selfish and stick to the penalty box!

With Neville and Distin both now mid thirties we need even more money to strengthen the squad this summer! Both are getting worse making more mistakes! But think Nevilleshould stay as a coach!

I am so getting bored of our board not backing the manager with enough funds to move on, our manager making excuses for our tired under strength team, and a tough finish to the season! But do you know what is rather have our problems than the likes of Leeds, Portsmouth and the like! COYB
