I'd take a draw Sunday and a 1-0 in the semi.
Think there will be a bit of team selection tinkering over these games.

{Ed025's Note - we will beat spurs tedster, and draw the semi 1st leg..

It would be just like Martinez for us to get decent results against the tough opposition in January.

I'm strangely optimistic. Wouldn't be surprised if we don't do well. But my gut is telling me we'll do good in January.

Well I don't we have been found out as we were last season. Top team with a squad that should do better and a manager that couldn't arrange a p*** up in a Stella factory.

I started a comment below and sent post by mistake before finishing.

Generally I was saying we may be a bit harsh on Martinez on this site sometimes. I have criticized him and praised him. Lately I have criticized his defence which I think is in need of organizing. Definitely need a new keeper.

After the first 10 games I was getting excited. I'm a real man in the sense I don't get easily excited but first time in a long time I was genuinely excited. We done so well against tough opposition. I made the mistake in thinking it was a given that the last 8 - 9 games we were going to do fantastic and climb the table to top 4.

How wrong was I! Its not entirely Martinez's fault. The defence is bad and the keeper brutal. Apart from that I don't think Martinez can be blamed for much more.

I honestly think luck had a part to play. Namely bad luck. Conceding so late in games is bad luck.

I'm very annoyed with how our defence has panned out this last while. But I think there is still time for Martinez to turn things around.

Well I hope so anyway. I live in hope. Ed I'm starting to dream again! As long as Martinez is here and keeps doing what he's doing in terms of keeping our best players, introducing young players and some value in the market the dream is still alive!

Few questions blues, bit of fun, I hope.

1.Would people like Eddie Howe as our manager? . I would, isn't afraid to drop players, is an Evertonian, plays nice Football but admits defeat unlike our current boss.

2.Who has been our current managers best and worst signings? . I think Barry or Lukaku, undecided, probably just Lukaku. Worst has to be McGeady, so bad.

3.Having just watched City and having seen Liverpool earlier, who is worse, Mangala or Sakho? . Difficult, both dreadful, but Mangala I've seen have a couple of decent games, Sakho just has me in tears of laughter whenever I watch him.

4.Who is better Lukaku or Kane? . Lukaku for me, Kane isn't a good player, but the service he gets is amazing so has plenty of open goals and tap ins, Rom just has so much more to his game.

5.What was your favorite game under David Moyes? . Might I add this isn't to annoy anyone, genuine question, beating Liverpool 3-0 or maybe Utd on penalties in the FA Cup.

6.Who looks the better player, Barkley or Dele Ali? . Ali looks so much better IMO, can play in any role, has the physicality of Ross but with the decision making he lacks, looks a real player.

7.What has been your favorite game under our current manager? . Beating Arsenal 3-0 in 2013-14, performance was perfect, everyone played so well.

8.Has this season been dreadful, or not as bad as people make out? . Dreadful.

Something to do isn't it.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - 1..no too inexperienced, 2..lukaku by miles, ..3..mangala reminds me of bambi on ice, 4..lukaku by miles, 5..i cant remember one, 6..deli alli at the moment, 7..the comeback at WBA, 8..the death of everton has been greatly exaggerated ..

02 Jan 2016 21:20:04
1. Probably still inexperienced 2. Rom by a million miles. 3. Got to be sakho for me although Mangela ain't far off. 4. Rom is by far the better all round centre forward. Agree with you about service. 4. The Andy Johnson derby. Or moyes last season 2-1 spurs we scored both our goals in injury time pienaar then jelevic got on the end of a overhead from velios. 6. Got to say I agree with Ed. 7. When we beat united away 1-0 Oviedo I wouldn't say dreadful but we had/ have the potential to have done/ do a lot lot more.

03 Jan 2016 08:07:23
1:yes, after all the only experience our current boss had was fighting relegation and a cup run 2:lukaku 3:Sakho, I have actually had kopites tell me he is world class haha 4:Lukaku 5:Arsenal with Rooney winner the gladwys street actually shook 6:Alli but remember its his first full season remember what ross qas like in his 7:same as swan Arsenal at home 8:phenomenally dreadful

right

1/ yes give him the chance, is he really a evertonian swan

2/ lukaku

3/ sakho all day he's a kopite

4/ lukaku same reasons as swan

5/ not many stand out tbh but the larissa game at home was one of few games that got me on my seat osmans goal was a complete goal plus we started to believe we could win it but as always under moyes we was left disappointed, bit harsh there ED025 haha

6 ali

7/ man utd away after not beating any away for 11years or more gr8 result think we will win there this year to

8/ average season up to now but its on a knife edge right now could swing either way could turn into the gr8est season we have had in years or one of are bad ones.

soz worst player defo mcgeady but alkarez has to be a close second.

Agree0 Disagree1

03 Jan 2016 10:36:16
1. No I don't think Howe would be any better than Martinez.
2. Best signing has to be Lukaku for his goals. We havn't had a prolific goalscorer for years. Worst has to be Alcaraz for his performance in UEFA Cup. Worst game by a professional i've ever seen.
3. Havn't seen much if Mangala so have to say Sakho as he's terrible.
4. Lukaku for me as I believe he'll be scoring 20 goals a season for next 10years. Kane i'm not so sure about.
5. 3-0 against Liverpool when Johnson scored 2 or Oviedos winner at Old Trafford. Both were amazing.
6. Only seen Ali play in an England game but he looks better than Barkley.
7. The 3-0 win against Arsenal was a great team performance and a few outstanding performances.
8. Dreadful season so far but still optomistic it'll change if Manager opens his eyes and some of the players perform like we all know they can.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jan 2016 10:37:17
You guys make me giggle. Kane is well better than lakaku, who needs about 10 chances to score, whereas Kane is potent when given half a chance. Sakho might be funny to watch, but we concede a lot less than your team, I only problem at minute is creating and scoring goals. So good luck with the imposter Mr Martinez. Happy new year guys and let's hope both are teams can put right what's happened over the last 4 weeks.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jan 2016 12:09:18
your defence is as bad as ours lmfao all the best to you to and as for your kane comment look at the scoreing records lukaku out strips him by a mile all top strikes miss more then they finish kane is no different kane isn't that good in the air or setting goals up but after all you lot are deluded hahahaha.

02 Jan 2016 17:16:31
I do genuinely believe that we have had really bad luck in most games, if you luck at teams we have dropped points against, we have caught them on the end of a good run or at the start of a good run palace, norwich, Bournemouth, stoke, I do think we need to start creating are luck, it can go a very very long way in this game C. O. Y. B stong defensive display we can do spurs.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

02 Jan 2016 17:28:41
I disagree, luck didn't drop those points against Bournemouth and Norwich, poor finishing and defending did. Luck did cost us against Palace I agree. Luck didn't cost us against Arsenal, Leicester and City, poor goalkeeping did. Lukaku and Barry have dragged us through this season, without them we would be bottom 3.

Agree0 Disagree1

02 Jan 2016 17:45:23
Yes see stokes really good run continued today. No wait they just been beaten by West Brom. Luck played no part it was down to poor finishing at Norwich as swan said namely from one of the untouchables I mean kone, poor defending and bad tactics against stoke including the sub at 3-2 up which weakened the midfield. Sorry don't buy the luck excuse as you make your own luck. Bottom line is we are defending like a sunday league side and are being bypassed in midfield as we have round pegs in square holes. And for me the buck stops with the manager.

02 Jan 2016 18:53:38
Muff I would love to be optimistic but the managers team selections and tactics make me more and more pessimistic weekly. I remember dreading going the game when Smith was in charge due to the feeling we were going to be beaten or at best get a draw. That feeling has returned and going the game is now like a chore rather than an enjoyment like it used to be. I sit in the upper bullens and I am sick of having to walk through away fans celebrating beating us and thinking what can you actually do but do the walk of shame through them because your team is an embarrassment. But again tomorrow I will go and more in hope than expectation expect a good result with a solid display.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - i dont think you have anything to be ashamed about gray..some naive defending at times i grant you, but we are the entertainers and playing some lovely stuff at times mate...so hold your head up high and be very proud..

02 Jan 2016 19:13:04
Never be embarrassed to be a toffee gray. I know it's frustrating at times boy do I know. How do we fix it well the only thing we can do is go the game and back the boys. I know how we can't fix it, by putting our frustrations on the players back. That's what this site is there for ha sorry eds. So come the game lad be positive and like you say HOPE. And win lose or draw when your leaving HOLD YOUR HEAD UP.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - im with you liam mate..

02 Jan 2016 21:17:43
Never ashamed to watch my beloved Team. With all due respect though it gets right up my nose to read/ hear 'we are the entertainers and play some lovely stuff, naive etc' that's all very well saying it to my Grand Son's team, they are just starting out in life but Everton are a professional side, my side and I want them to be competitive, I want Teams to come to Goodison bricking it, I want Teams when we arrive at their place to know they are in for a hard game. So stuff 'we are playing some lovely stuff' especially when we have been beat, out of stupidity and not necessarily. And stuff sitting in 11th while our Manager believes we are the right track. Be there again tomorrow and support the Team no matter what and no matter the result I will be at the next Home game. So please don't insult my intelligence or others with such phrases as 'we are playing some lovely stuff' and 'we are on the right track' when we have a Manager who actually believes consistency is finishing middle table season after season and it is exciting and phenomenal.

Agree1 Disagree1

02 Jan 2016 21:38:57
Right before I start dunc we're has anybody insulted your intelligence nobody was speaking to you ya Ming second can you give me the quote from Martinez when he said consistency is finishing mid table season after season. Thought not lad. Now I don't want to sound like I'm insulting your intellect but if you ain't got this proof I think I just did now ssshhh a little it's crimbo.

Agree0 Disagree1

03 Jan 2016 00:33:34
Swan you are obsessed with Barry he is a very average midfielder at best. Can't defend pulls and drags at corners, looses the ball quite a bit and doesn't protect back four + he is way too slow.

Agree1 Disagree2

03 Jan 2016 02:37:08
Too slow yet covers the second most ground in the league. Protects the back four? Are you joking? He has to do that AND be the ball playing midfielder because McCarthy and Barkley can't pass the ball.

If you think protecting the back four involves being a quick strong player then go watch Wanyama, who is, might I add, utter dreadful. "Loses the ball quite a bit", yeah, again, because he has to run the game by himself because McCarthy and Barkley have no clue what to do with the ball at their feet. Maybe if he had someone who could actually pass the ball he wouldn't have to do 2 jobs by himself.

Everyone pulls and drags at corners, name me a player who doesn't. I've noticed you keep mentioning slow, slow? Slow? Yes because the best defensive midfielders in England (Schneiderlin, Lucas, Matic and Coquelin) are just blessed with blistering pace.

You are badly mistaken if you think a player has to be fast and strong to be a good holding midfielder, they have to be smart, as all the players I list above are, be able to position themselves properly (something McCarthy is utter dreadful at, hence why he runs around aimlessly) and know how to stop attacks by any means necessary (something Barry and Lucas thrive in, winning and conceding fouls at the perfect moment) .

Victor Wanyama, a strong quick midfielder, has none of these, he also can't pass, he is awful. Alex Song is similar, as is Carlos Sanchez and Chiek Tiote, notice a trend here? All are blessed with these physical gifts that according to you, are vital, yet none of them even come close to the actual good players I listed in terms of how good they do that job.

If you think Barry isn't any good then I do implore you to watch him, instead of assuming everyone has to play like Paul Pogba and go about knocking people over, nutmegging everyone and shooting from 30 yards, lay off FIFA or these YouTube montages.

Wonder if Roberto listens to anybody but himself. Stoke against us looked like they would Score every time they went forward. Stoke against WBA are 1-0 down, WBA know how to defend. West Ham against Liverpool defended in pairs and threw bodies in the way. Us against Stoke to be quite honest our defence just does not look like they want to play for Martinez.

The thing is NBTB why the heck should we handicap ourselves every season with under achieving, with this so-called best Squad in years, why do we have to climb out of the foothills every season. If we do go on a run it is only repeating the pattern that Wigan had under the same Staff. Look at the table and who is around us, that apparently indicates to Roberto we are on the right track.

To detract from the Moyes / Martinez debate on which I see both sides of the argument, here is another one.

If not in January then most certainly in the Summer would expect Man U to enquire about Lukaku or John Stones or Barkley. I also feel they will want to offload Felaini and Rooney. Whilst I don't see a return to Everton for Fellaini, what would be the temptation for Rooney in part ex plus money. Admittedly he isn't the player he was due to age and possibly injuries, and is near the end of his carrear would it a possibility to take Rooney back for a couple of seasons assuming wages etc are within the clubs range.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

02 Jan 2016 15:54:27
Why Rooney. He's not the player he was. Much better out there and because he's a evertonian we should sign him right?. Abit like the Moyes debate, let's just move on.I'd much rather get yarmolenko if we could or a up and coming striker like Andre Gray or the Bournemouth strike who is injured at the moment.

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Jan 2016 16:02:32
dentielad, spot on, 1 away goal in 20 months Rooney has. He's finished and has been for a while, were would he play? Not in Lukaku's league. Doesn't score or assist so what is the point? . Kone is having a better season as a winger than Rooney as a striker. He wouldn't even offer us a mix of positions as he's even worse in midfield. Would be our highest paid player, why bother.

It doesn't look like we will get rid of this numpty any time soon so our only hope is that he has it within him to realise we need to get back to basics and get the defence right first and maintain it. This site is a good out-let for passionate Evertonions, but for or aginst the return of moyes, the sacking or otherwise of martinez, or desperate for a new goalkeeper. I'm now more convinced than ever, that those on our board, don't give a damn for the views of supporters, expressed here, or anywhere else.

I know there was a great deal of criticism of the blue union but a club that so blatantly ignores the view of its supporter cannot complain when it's own action, spawn a group with a militant agenda. I'm not a member but am begining to wonder if the only way to be heard is by some form of direct action.
