After getting rid of stones and jagielka seemingly struggling alot. I think we should definatly go for the lad from burnley (keane) young english and quality possible future captain imo. also would love us to make a statement by going for lacazette (goals guarenteed) . goalkeeper wise i'd like leno or celta vigo young talent blanco veiga looks quality. Bit contreversial but i would love rooney back. times change blues come on.

I'd be astounded if Burnley let Keane leave during the January transfer window.
In the Summer, it might be a different story if they get a huge offer and the player expresses a wish to leave.

However, If we haven't qualified for Europe, then we'll do well to get him - or other top players - ahead of those clubs that have qualified (especially those in the Champions League) .

In reality, we surely need to prove ourselves as genuine contenders, pay what selling clubs want in exorbitant transfer fees, and offer inflated wages in order to attract the better-quality players.

For someone like Rooney, I imagine that his sentiment for Everton would only go so far in enticing him to return.
Still, the club should be positive and ambitious - and we the fans should be patient if we don't get everything we want straight away.

The FFP rules will only allow us to spend what we make from footballing activities. So we need to be careful where we spend it. That is why we got such ridiculous figures in recent sales on the likes of Stones. Bright young stars are now attracting all the top clubs and inflating their value. I have no idea what sort of fee Keane would demand, but it would be most of our budget I would think. Like Cowpat says, Burnley are unlikely to sell unless for a very very high fee so we are probably too late to get him. We need to be more savvy and do like we did when we got Stones. ie look for the bright young stars before they have developed to international level. We did it lots under Moyes time whether people liked him or not. We bought young players in and developed the, then sold them for high fees. We will probably do the same with Lukaku. However, Lukaku is the only one I can see happening since Martinez. This was my moan about him. and links in with the Kone/ Anichebe debate. I understand that we have some good young kids like Holgate and Davies coming through and they may become excellent players. but Martinez also brought in too many older ones: Alcaraz, Kone, Eto'o at a time when our squaad was ageing anyway. The kids he brought in have not improved in the same way as ones we had in the previous years. Hopefully we will now get some of these kids in the 1st team and moving on to international standard. We will get good fee for Lukaku if his attitude does not prohibit his development. At least that seems to have improved of late. I suspect there will be lots of coming and going in the next 3 or 4 transfer windows and there will be lots of youth.

I'n my humble opinion, this season is for the players to show they're worthy of a place in RK's team/ squad
If they don't produce, then they'll not survive the January - and certainly not the Summer - transfer window.
Next season, after RK has made the major squad changes he wants (although it'll probably take two further transfer windows to complete the rebuilding) AND he's had a full pre-season with those players, will be when he has to prove himself.
At the end of these two years, it should be clear if the club has progressed under RK or if the project is in danger of failing.
I hope everyone is patient in the meantime.

I think the majority will be patient as long as improvements can be seen at the end of each window. There will allways be a section of so called fans that will moan about something tho. i'm content with the direction we seem to be going at the moment. The future is brighter than it has been for a long time.

Although clubs generally want to keep their best players, most clubs - especially in Europe - are willing to transfer out players if they get a good enough offer.
It's the fans (especially in England) who (quite naturally) are emotionally attached to, particular players. Their adoration for a favourite can quickly flip to hatred if the player leaves- especially to join a rival club.
As Mr Moshiri said, it's Monopoly money these days, but every club still has to look at the best deals for itself and if that means transferring out a player then so be it. As long imho as the club is improving year-on-year on and off the field, then my rational side is OK with that.

Absolutely agree mate. The FFP rules mean the days of an Abromovic coming in and chucking money at the squad are gone. It needs someone with a bit of dosh but more importantly a vision and a plan. let's hope our plan can be made a long term goal with real chances.

How many do you see us signing sid? And who do you think will go.

Efcfanatic: I can see us signing at least 3 players and wouldn't be surprised if we recruit even more - 5 or 6 - in January. These will be first-teamers, but we might also recruit some promising players to develop in the U23s.
The incoming number will, no doubt be balanced by outgoings - Niasse almost certainly, McCarthy very likely, and a few out-of-favour players also likely to leave (permanent or loan) .
We need to watch our transfer and wage spending under the FFP regulations, so don't expect lots of Galacticos!
Also, we can only register a squad of 25 aged-over-21 players, so I see no point in keeping any unregistered overage players (like McAleny) .
Players like Garbutt and Galloway are returning from loan and will need to have their futures considered.
I can see quite a few U23/ U18 players going out on loan, as they clearly need the competitive intensity of lower-tier football to fully develop.
It's a risk to have too much disruption, but I reckon that RK has now made his mind up about what is needed and SW is on the case with the scouting and recruiting.
We the fans must be patient and not get overly upset if some of our favourites move on.

Cheers sid. we do need a few, creative midfield reinforcements and a new striker top of the list for me.

Continuing the debate about the need for an U23/ U18 setup, I offer the following comments.
The purpose is to develop players that are good enough for the Premier League at Everton.
It's unrealistic to expect any more than perhaps 1 or 2 to actually make it as top profesional footballers every few years.
We no longer have to transfer our best young players just to generate funds to keep the club operationally afloat.
We aren't a club (like Ajax) whose model is to develop young players, transfer them to "bigger" wealthier clubs, and keep the production line going and have a turnover of players every few years.
We need a manager/ coach who's not under so much pressure that he is unable (unwilling? ) to risk selecting young players for the first team. We also need fans to be patient with this.
I just hope that our young players (alike Holgate, Davies, etc. ) do successfully establish themselves at Everton.

Just a quick question for any of the Eds or anyone who knows, Changs sponsorship runs out the end of this season does the club promote itself to potential sponsors or do potential sponsors promote themselves to us. I myself would love a sponsor that we can have on infant kits as well as adults so they feel like the player on the pitch, any realistic sponsors fans would like?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It is a mutual agreement that needs to be met so it is effectively a bit of both Lee. There have been further discussions with Chang but Everton are looking for an improbed deal. The other company they have spoken with would likely not be suitable for kids as it is a gambling business.}

26 Nov 2016 10:44:57
It does seem that until we become a better-known (regular Champions - or at least Europa - League? ) club that could attract a major international corporate brand as sponsor, we are having to look at booze, gambling or money-lending companies as the most lucrative potential sponsors. Anyone know any different?

Baarceelona use their shirts to promote Unicef. A very worthwwhile caause in my view. I don't exxpect we can do such a thing but it would be nice. I guess Barcelona are a bit wealthier than us already!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - they only did that to get the fans to accept having shirt sponsorship, it was not done out of the goodness of anyone's heart.}

26 Nov 2016 12:08:34
Betting and alcohol companies are slowly becoming less popular due the junior shirt issues. So they might see us as an option given our need to come up with a deal far better than the one we had with Chang. I'd love a sponsor that could go on a junior shirt but it may just not happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The driver will be the money - Chang, like most sponsors, want the profile of a club playing in the Champions League or at least in Europe.}

26 Nov 2016 13:52:22
I couldn't agree more Ed. At the end of the day the best deal in money will be on the shirt, or not on the shirt if you know what I mean.

Thanks ed002 I know money will be the big factor always feel sorry for fans paying so much for infants tops that don't have a sponsor I'm sure Moshiri is looking into it as he's doing a very good job behind the scenes already.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Moshiri will, I doubt, be concerned about the infant shirts.}

Hey

. this is more an observation. does anyone else have a feeling RK may attempt to persuade Van Dyke (excuse spelling) and of course his employers, to join the Blues. class act and will cost a fair penny or two. VD has told SSN he has a special relationship with RK and keeps in touch whilst RK in a different article has said he has no concerns about approaching Soton players if they were right for our club. of course these are articles n may mean nothing or misquotes etc. but worth a thought. I for one wouldn't mind seeing him in a blue shirt. COYB

Plenty of posters here were wanting Van Dijk when he was at Celtic. Good player imo.

Yes Tedster. I wanted him at the time and thought he would be a better buy than Mori. No one knew for sure at the time but VD turned out to be a very good signing.

Mori turned out also fairly good. He could and hopefully will improve more whenever he gets a chance to stake his claim on a place in the team.
