What that game showed me s just how desperate we are for another out and out striker. Far to often we got into really good positions with only Lukaku to aim at. Felt sorry for the guy, at times he had four Newcastle players surrounding him, have to have another option. As for Ross, I really do believe he could become a great player, but he has to start moving the ball quicker. We're far to slow at times getting the ball forward. All that said we got the three points, now have to beat Stoke and push on. Still need another striker though.

Agreed Woburnblue but I can't tell you the number of times I yelled at the TV, "SHOOT"! Apart from Lukaku are players are often afraid to take the risk of having a shot and too often try one more pass which allows the opposition time to block the attack.

Charlie Austin anybody?

1940Mike exactly. Hence my comment earlier when an Everton player has the ball at the box with plenty of players around him he tries to get past the opposition player or does a 2 yard pass.

Has to be instructions from management. What is wrong with a shot or a cross for a header? Everyone seems to be on top of the ball.

All the possession is no good if we don't create proper chances. We were all over Newcastle yet they had chances that where closer to scoring.

Credit where credit is due. Martinez changed the line up well. He gave Lennon and Mirallas a chance. Also gave Besic a valuable run out.

Sorry but Saints just battered Gunners?
I posted weeks ago, anyone could win this one this year.
Was that goal tonight, 'Adrain Heath v Oxford' mark2?
We are in real need of a 'thug' in the middle because we are so soft centered but that apart there is no team showing consistency.
Will be gutted if not top four (at least) by end of season.

Degs just read that story mate and the encouraging thing about this guy is he talks about clubs history and trying to make them successful and really likes the English game well we will have to wait and see.

yeh looks promising Stef, never heard of them before but looked on their website and looks ok, don't mix up with the gambling site winner sports though as they are scam artists apparently.

looks like this guy wants total control of a club as he is hampered in Germany due to outside ownership rules, get him in, get his wallet out and let's start building.

paper rumour today that Chelsea may be looking at Lukaku too, I hope one of these transfer rumours come true as we can keep our crown jewels and build on it, worried for us next summer though if nothing happens.

27 Dec 2015 11:05:55
I'm not as worried as I used to be about having to sell players. Last summer taught me that the club is strong enough both financially and mentally to resist at any cost the millions thrown our way for our best players.

I'm not saying that it'll always be the case but at least we've shown them that were too big to be pushed around like we used to.

murf1000 My guess based on instinct and Bills past on investment rumors but total control would be a huge stumbling block I would have thought.

Posted that in too early. Delighted to see Martinez made wholesale changes. Baines playing very high up and Coleman. Almost looked like a back 3 of Stones, Mori and Barry. With Mirallas up with Lukaku and the rest in midfield.

Good job Newcastle only got 1 shot on target. They had some decent chances. If Martinez played Joel now I'd make it my business to meet Martinez and give him a big slobbery kiss. Because I think his changes to the team were very good.

We were all over Newcastle and deserved the win. Well done Martinez and the whole team. Another 3 points on Monday would be absolutely fantastic.

Brilliant to get the 3 points. Hopefully get the confidence going and we can kick on from here. Clev done very well to get the goal. Two games ago Clev had a fantastic shot saved. It was a volley and you can see he connects well with the ball for volley's. He had a few shots today and the last day that he connected well but were blocked. So I wouldn't be surprised if Clev gets more goals especially a well hit volley.

Not many take on a shot like that. As I said in an earlier post they try to pass it around the big box when there are about 8 players within 5 yards of the ball. Or try to tribal by all the players. That's ok if your playing indoors in a small hall. Not top class professional football.

from the huge dissapointment of losing a goal so late against bourmouth to us getting one I think even later today this is why football is the best sport on this planet.

yes, don't care if it was a fluke I will take it they should av been down to 10 men and we should av had a pen so I could not give a toss how the win came. I thought gerry wqas poor but mirrallas was decent and barry was superb again.

I am not one of those 'at least we are playing nice football but not winning types' I am an Everton supporter plain and simple would rather win 1-0 all day long. What was flukey about it by the way, Cleverley took the header and it went in. Yet again though loads of possession playing the tippy tappy stuff and once in the box don't want to shoot. RM really does need a plan B. Also don't know about anyone else but Baines for me is not a LB but a WB.

Totally, what's this tippy tappy stuff around the box all about. 8 players within 5 yards of the ball and Barkley especially tries to get by them. Happens too much in every game.

What's wrong with a decent cross? Or a shot from around the box? Have to say improvement in team selection. Exciting enough game too.

This year two teams not in the "Chelsea, City, Arsenal and United" click could get into the Champions League. What an opportunity. Come on Blues let's start today with a resounding win at Newcastle. 3-1 for us!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

26 Dec 2015 15:33:31
There's more chance of Chelsea making 4th than us unless we change keeper and get a plan B. I can't see more than a draw today. The Geordies will be well up for the game today as they see it is a great opportunity for 3 points.

Im not sure about the take over, but both those very in favour, and those against, have, at least at this stage, very little on which to have a firm opinion.
Seeing the difficulties are friends across the park had, with Hicks and Gillet, might be viewed as a cationary tale, but with no disrespect to Bill, the commercial management of our club has been little short of abysmal, and to perform on the field, you have to be able to run a first class business opperation, and from the little we do know, these two men seem to have a good track record for doing just that.

Jamie Carragher made a very good point in a column he did for the Daily Fail. Something like if you can't sell a house, lower the price, this is the issue Everton have and he's so right. 900% return Bill wants despite being "desperate to get us investment". Add that to the stadium problems that the board has failed 3 times on, the lack commercial management, the poorly decided sacking of Alan Myers, need for a top manager and it's no wonder we are struggling. The board and in particular the chairman apparently are desperate for the best for Everton, yet their choices and expectations seem to suggest the opposite. People go on about how this board saved us (least successful board in our history, don't speak to the fans and when they do they treat them like crap and how many things they have ruined that would have allowed us to take a step up) when it was the easiest profit in history. Bill made a great choice in David Moyes (who got us to where we are without any backing from our supposed "loyal blue blooded" chairman and board) but bar that the board have failed in every department. It's obvious to everyone how they are holding us back, more interested in money, Evertonians my arse.

26 Dec 2015 10:18:56
But you just can't sell a club for a low price and devalue your own assets. The players value make up a large part of the asking price. So if you reduce the value of the club you're in effect admitting that you are asking too much for the likes of Stones Ross and Rom.

Although I agree the communication from the club boarders on insulting. Especially the sacking of our head of communication for err "communicating" Also repeatedly trying to find a new stadium for free practically boarders on begging. These are cases to answer for.

But at the time they purchased the club I purchased my house that I live in now. And with modest improvements I'm sitting on more than triple its value. Mainly due to how the market has changed since then.

If they feel the club is worth over £200 million and someone is willing to pay that then ok. But and its a big concern of mine, how will they view player assets? Because everything comes down to match day. We need asset generators in our owners, not asset strippers. Which ones could our new owners be? Who knows.
