Just seen reports that the gabiadini move has been blocked by napoli and fiorentire won't sell them kalinic. Can we have a transfer that goes according to plan please.

do not think there is such a thing as a transfer going to plan these days lol.

We have had two, Garbutt and Galoway, both went smoothly.

Well there you have it, Koeman comes out and says McCarthy has a future in his plans. No one knows what Koeman intentions are. People and most of all the media were speculating that he was going to leave.

When you think of it, it was a compliment that he was played on the right. Koeman could of picked other players but went with McCarthy. Why? Because he rates him. Insisted in his interview that he is happy with McCarthy and sees him as a midfielder.

He's still only 25 and 10 years younger than Barry! Yet to reach his peak. I suspect there won't be many games he'll miss all season. Barry will not be playing over half the games. Not knocking him. Think he's amazing to still be at the standard he is.

My point is give McCarthy a chance. He still has 2-3 years before he gets anywhere near his peak. Why people knock him and then more join in once they see someone else do it is beyond me.

I'm sure his work rate fits in with Koeman. He also has the ability. It will fall into place imho. I for one fully support McCarthy and will cheer him on for a long time to come yet.

Spot on NBTB, Mcarthy's proven how much of an asset he can be, still young as you say and been used as scapegoat recently. He was outstanding in his first season for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2016 02:28:37
I agree to an extent mate. I think he is a decent player which he showed in his first season. The only thing I will criticise is his lack of goals, he needs to start hitting the back of the net. I think it is a make or break season for him this year, if he can't reach the next level required then he could be moved on. He should be encouraged with what RK has said about him though.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2016 07:43:19
I agree that McCarthy is still young enough to improve. I also think he has many fine attributes. He seems level headed. He has an engine that means he covers so much ground. He has a fantastic ability to track backand get important last ditch tackles. My big concern with him is that all his attributes are defensive ones. He very rarely scores a goal as spudv has pointed out. But I would add to that. He very rarely makes a forwards pass. His passing is nearly always based on retaining possession. When he attempts a killer pass, they nearly always fail. His assists ratio must be very poor (not that I have looked them up, so correct me if I am wrong) . Yes I find this with most of our central midfielders which is why I am happy with the Gueye signing. He seems much more positive to get the ball forwards to our goalscorers and is also happy to join in. Cleverly, Barry and McCarthy seem to me to have very little to offer re attacking options.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2016 08:05:33
Let RK get his form and confidence back and the boy will be a top player for us. He knows exactly what it takes to balance defence with attack as he was master of it. So put that mindset into Jimmy Mac and he'll be a top player for us. Just give it some time.

I like the lad and hope he stays.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2016 08:17:21
At 25 he should be able to make forward passes and assists. let's hope that RK works on that aspect with him. I am sure he will. or he will ship him out.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2016 08:48:17
I think that McCarthy will eventually be replaced, but Rome wasn't built in a day. We need a good sized squad with lots of depth and options. We are looking at signing another 2-3 players. This is proving challenging enough without replacing McCarthy, Gibson, Cleverly and Kone as well. It will be two years at least before we have anything resembling a complete squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2016 11:05:45
Degsy, I get what you are saying about never passing forwards and that he is all about keeping possession but maybe that has been drilled into him for too long. The lad had more seasons than most playing under Roberto, having followed him from Wigan, so RK might have a bit of work on his hands to drum the bad points out of his game. If he's still doing the same things 12 months from now then he will probably be replaced. It's ultimately up to JM to step up and prove he can get back to a similar level like his first season with us.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2016 11:01:29
I like McCarthy as a person and he's a good player. However, is very one dimensional for me. I said this recently that he may improve under Koeman but at best he is a mid table type player. More a Kevin Nolan than a top midfield talent.

When you look at Gana it highlights what we've been lacking in the midfield and I wouldn't put him ahead of Barry either.

What I would say is that every player at the club needs to be given a chance. Moyes was very rigid in his approach and Martinez was the opposite. Koeman is different again and they all deserve the chance to see if they can fit into his way of playing.

IRKWT.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2016 11:38:47
He needs to add a more pressing approach to his game like idrissa gueye has. Mccarthy's problem is that he does all the running about but just stands off from opposition, giving them far too much time on the ball.

It's what you get use to being managed by Martinez all those years I suppose. But Ronald will beat it out of him I'm sure of that.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2016 20:27:25
Leighton's interview confirms all we suspected, shambles under Martinez, RK total B'stad.
Love it, at last a Manager like Catterick.

Interesting that all the top clubs are finding it difficult to push through transfers, just listened to the Chelsea boss who's frustrated, still believe we have some quieter irons in the fire that hopefully the press haven't latched onto yet!

It's phenomenal thierry Henry has gone to work with Bobby.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

26 Aug 2016 16:43:16
I hope Henry can steer Martinez in the right directions and perhaps insist on the odd 'plan b' now and again, because I notice RM has taken Graeme Jones and fitness coach Richard Evans with him too 🙄.

Not to bothered about losing Perez transfer, from the bits I have seen of him he looks very similar to Kev in his movement. Gabbiadini looks good and has a strong left foot so would bring balance to the side. But 30mill? Would still like Kone, think him and Williams would be very strong pair. Could then move Holgate to R/ B, think he could do a job there.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

26 Aug 2016 15:12:59
Can't see us getting Kone, not now. Moyes has made this clear. We definitely need a striker, RB and box to box midfielder. There is some truth in the Brahimi links but whether it will come to fruition is another story. Would have been boss to have Perez and Ghezzal, all that pace would have terrified other teams, but not to be.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2016 20:22:57
Kone will join us at 9.58pm on Deadline day.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2016 13:21:32
When it comes to what we have or haven't got to spend on transfers, part of me would rather see us spend it on securing land for developing a new ground. Yes I know we need new blood into the side, but do we really need to overpay for players, some who we have never heard of, and last season would have been half the price.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

26 Aug 2016 15:14:35
We're sorting the new stadium separate to the purchase of players. It is not an 'either or' situation.

I know that Stevie, but the ground is permanent, players come and go. It is crucial that the club get this sorted for the future.

26 Aug 2016 13:13:33
It wouldn't surprise me if me made a Dutch signing . Koeman took a few to Southampton . He's bound to rate one of two anyway. I'd still like to see us take a risk on strootman. Cracking player. I can't see Barry playing the whole season. He'll need wrapping in cotton wool by Christmas and all though McCarthy is a half decent player, he doesn't bump us up a level which strootman would.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

26 Aug 2016 13:31:51
However good he is, we would have to wrap strootman up all season. We can't be spending that much money on someone with serious injury problems.

Agree2 Disagree0

26 Aug 2016 13:48:37
One bad injury. I remember van nistelrooy suffer a similar one. Didn't stop him. Granted some players never come back the same, I. e, Torres. But it works both ways.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2016 14:32:27
Strootman would be a high risk investment bags of ability. Who's going to risk 30mill plus? I would imagine moshiri even would wince at that.

I have to say it crossed my mind the other week that if clubs know who we're after especially being recommend by Steve Walsh could cause clubs to show an interest.
How does this info ie who we are after get out?

They are saying Arsenal renewed their interest in Perez because Steve Walsh rates him. No info came out from Leicester about their amazing signings
Why are we so slow.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

26 Aug 2016 10:52:32
I would say it's just press talk. Every player we go after will be associated with SW, and it makes better reading if a club is going after someone because SW thinks he is good enough.

Agree2 Disagree0

26 Aug 2016 13:44:01
It's Agents lad, the biggest cancer in sport and specifically football. Clubs can't directly approach a player who is under contract at another club but there is nothing to prevent them contacting the player's agent. Once the shark has knowledge of a club's interest he is free to use it as leverage within the market.

Agree1 Disagree1

26 Aug 2016 08:32:29
I don't really know enough about Gabbiadini to know of he is really that good or worth the money but I'd love to see us go gorgeous Arduriz from Athletic (amazing stiker) and test Real Madrid resolve to keep Kovacic (next Modric)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Aug 2016 08:54:56
Arduriz is good, but he's 35, maybe 36.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2016 09:06:22
Got to admit, would love to sign a young, good keeper (Leno, Horn) but Kovacic I think would be my dream signing (for now haha) . That'd be a statement signing.

26 Aug 2016 12:44:53
Gabbiadini has a golden left foot, that's for sure not many around!

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2016 13:44:49
That would mean we have two main strikers who are left footed. Not very balanced is it.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2016 15:43:20
But you could say everton have 2 left feet in attack if we have a poor season.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2016 07:51:27
I must admit, at the start of the season I was worried because we not made many additions and players would still have martinez mindset. But after the first few games and additions of new players, who have improved the squad, I am no longer fearful. Rk has us playing pretty well in a new-ish formation. The players have taken his ideals quickly and the 3-5-2 has surprised me. I never rated it previous.

I, for one, am willing to say that even if we bought nobody else, we would do OK. but rk and sw know what they are doing, it seems, so we should trust them to bring in or let go, who they want or can and come Sunderland on 12th September, we get behind whoever wears the royal blue shirt and stick one over on moyes.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

26 Aug 2016 09:21:56
Don't get confused with the supposed 3-5-2 formation, that is a so-called expert made up formation that doesn't actually exist. Players and coaches when the Team set-up is displayed on a board is actually 5-3-2 with the outer flanks slightly forward and the mid 3 in front of them.

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Aug 2016 09:33:42
Its not RK's 3-5-2 but his willingness to change formations to attempt to beat the opposition as we play a fixture. That is what we have been missing for years, top management. I am a very happy Blue at the moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2016 10:33:52
Bct. tom-ay-to, tom-ay-to in all fairness. It's just Good to see our manager trying new formations and not scared to make changes to formation or personnel if things aren't working (I. e. Taking jimmy Mac off early vs West Bromwich)

Rk has a plan b and probably has plans up to z, which bodes wellfor this season.

I'm not getting carried away. we won't win the league but at least we won't get relegated, which was looking the case under martinez.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2016 11:36:13
Put better than me SA90, I to think RK is a very good Manager who adapts quickly and responds quickly in every game.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2016 12:26:39
There were a few clear signals from last weeks game.

1st he didn't mind giving the players that done well against Spurs a chance to show they could do it again

2nd he recognised straight away it wasn't working and made a change with the players he had on the pitch by pushing wingbacks up and rotating the forward line

3rd he realised that the personel on the pitch wouldn't change it so he brought McCarthy off and put Lukaku on

4th he didn't wait for half time. He new a goal before half time could change the second half

5th he didn't appologise for the substitution. He told it how it was.

6th he focussed on the good but also highlighted the bad

7th the players even this early seem to understand what Koeman is trying to get them to do.

8th the amount of times in breaks in play he brings a player over to give instructions. Its constant feedback for 90 minutes.

I am loving this guy.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2016 05:37:42
I think people just want signings for the sake of it nothing to do with how good a player is. Gabbidini 30m for 5 goals in 23 games does that sound like he is worth 30m because that don't sound to hot for me. Watching a bit of Dutch football yesterday and the lad of Twente Ziyech what a playmaker everything goes through him and boy can that lad see a pass, and commentators say he is expected to leave in this window, just what we need someone who can open up a defence with one pass. COYB.

That would have been the equivalent of paying 60 mill for Pelle instead of him going to China. Crazy talk.

26 Aug 2016 09:25:39
The old trait of us being late to the Party is still there despite the shake up (welcome it is) by the astute Mr Moshri. That trait I believe is because Mr Kenwright is still there handling negotiations and being the cautious man he is, other Clubs do tend to play on that and where we are hesitant they leap in.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2016 10:26:22
Only a matter of time before someone blamed Kenwright, well done billscrocodiletears, despite everything Ed002 has said about transfers and the fact that players want European football, which we can't offer, you still want to blame him.
Please give it a rest it's getting boring, surely you can see that the Everton mentality is changing, pity some fans can't see it!

Agree3 Disagree2

26 Aug 2016 11:39:42
Just an opinion sidutton. Just happen to think he can be to cautious, do also happen to think that he has managed our finances throughout the years in a very sensible way. Advice! don't be so sensitive and confrontational won't do your blood pressure any good.

Complaining about our transfer budget is similar to this:

Getting my wages in next week. If i don't spend it within the first week, on pointless things that i don't need, why get paid at all?!

Give the Everton management team at least a bit of time to figure things out! Yes we can all see we need some players but I don't want to see us spending massively over the odds to get them when we need to build the team again. The team need to learn to gel under Normal first and then see what we need which could take time so be a little patient will ya! COYB.
