Use our rumours form to send us everton transfer rumours.

This question is for ed002 in particular as he seems to have a lot of inside information, I know you have previously commented on evertons chances of signing lukaku permanently before, but in your opinion does Chelsea signing Drogba change anything?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No, it doesn't.}

ED002, surely it means Lukaku's previous comments of wanting to stay at Chelsea and fight for his place are now in the past. He trains with Anderlecht and is shown another lack of faith by his manager, bu signing Drogba. I believe it is odds on that he will now leave. It is just whether it is a. on loan b. to a champions league team or c. to us.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I have explained that when Lukaku upset Chelsea his days were likely over although his player liaison tried to patch things up with the club. What has happened with Drogba is nothing to do with Lukaku.}

Who do people want as our starting wingers next season? I know they will all get game time with europe and that, but as our main starting pair who do people want? For me kev is a certainty but who does he play with? I was one of the main people on here begging not to sign mcgeady and how wrong I've been, he looked very good last season, he's like a bullet, has bags if tricks and his end product, imo, has been very good also, pienaar, I've kind of lost interest in him, he was never fast but he just seems to be getting slower and slower every game, he can't beat a man and for me is a shadow of the player we originally had, but then you have his good link up with baines, which gets the best out of both players, if mcgeady is to play, is he better on the left or the right? He seems very good on either foot but is it better to have him link up with baines or seamus, its a headache whereas with pienaar its easy, him on the left and kev on the right, thankfully, its not my choice but who do you think should be our starting wingers?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A three of Barkley, Mcgeady and Kev will be awesome all 3 are 2 footed especially the first two, all fast and can beat a man and all have an excellent final ball. For me Piennar just isn't on there level on any more although he's an excellent option off the bench and his link up with baines is second to none.

Agree0 Disagree0

Swan I was on the same page but as the season was getting on he started to look sharp and tricky, his end product will always be questioned but he has bags of confidence and Isn't afraid to take on poeple, I still think pienaar has something to offer but I doubt he's a starter these days but that leaves the left midfield up to debate with prob mcgeady there and Kevin on the right

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree kev is a cert. and should be imo. I am less convinced about mcgeady. he is very quick over short distances and has quick feet. I just feel he tries the same trick over & over again. tuesday night was the same. I remember the villa game. he beat bertrand early hit the bar then bertrand got the better of him. I hope he proves me wrong but i'd say he is an impact player a la fulham. I think pienaar is finished and will only play on thursday nights. I was expected a proven winger to be bought if i'm honest/dared to dream

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we should start with mcgeady on the right as he would have the irish connection with coleman and have kev on the left with bainsey as I might be wrong but didn't kev say his best position is either left wing or behind the striker as I say correct me if am wrong. What do you think swan mate?

Agree0 Disagree0

McGeady left Mirallas right. It's an easy choice for me. However I do think we need another winger, preferably in the mould of Deulofeu (hopefully not as greedy) because then you could say we have 4 quality first team wingers, with the likes of Kennedy and maybe Henen (if we sign him) waiting in the wings (no pun intended!)

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 01:36:15
I think kev is better on the left, he seems more confident, he ripped andre wisdom apart there, on the right he seems to know that if he can't beat his man for pace then he can't get past him at all but on the left he can cut in, preki I agree he tries the same skill, rolls his foot over the ball, does a stepover then bursts forward but it works mate, he's faster than probably every full back in the league probably so it would work and against villa, he wasnt fit so he didn't have that burst of acceleration he now has, it was his first game in a few months, if you put him up against bertrand now he is near full fitness then I have no doubt he would beat him, I think kennedy will be given some game time too

Agree0 Disagree0

Cleverley and Milner

Agree0 Disagree0

I can see different formations as well as players. Eg playing with 1 out and out winger and the likes of Pienaar on the other side. Pienaar was not as effective last season and of course was injured, but don't write him off yet. He needs a good run and is still young enough to recover his form. When Kev is on fire he is unstoppable. Problem is, he has one good game, then a bad game. I am sure the staff will be working on making him more consistent. McGeady has the ability to be a great player. Ghosts past players with ease. Then his delivery is often poor. I suspect all three will be rotated until one or more show signs of consistency. Kev gets goals. which gives him the head start.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would anyone play Pienaar in the middle?

his pace won't matter as much there

(we had Barry there last season and Pienaar has to be quicker)

He still has his strength and can use his vision, dribbling and passing skills, maybe even the odd pen if brought down in the box

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 17:55:31
Interesting that botn but I have to question whether pienaar has any strengh, he seems to get pushed around quite easily, playing him in the middle is a big risk as he loves going to the floor and staying there until he realises he isn't going to get a free kick and by this point we are a man short and are being countered, he played there for south africa but I think he's too weak and slow to play there, he is clever which could make him a good number 10 but then you lose pace on the counter, we will just have to wait and see, he was played behind the striker against tranmere right?

Drogba signs for Chelsea. Dare I say my prediction is starting to take shape? Lukaku still needs to decide where he wants to be, but hopefully our offer will blow others out of the water. Then it is up to him. Does he really want to go to another club where he might be 2nd choice or us where he knows he will progress?

Just been browsing the echo on line and they've got a very good article and photo gallery on Tim Cahill' s Everton career, albeit a day or so old now.
Me and my lad were lucky enough to meet Tim a few times and he was always an absolute gent, always had the time of day for the fans and seemed to genuinely appreciate how fortunate he was to wear the famous blue jersey that many of us can only dream of.
I'm not 100% certain he'd fit in with our new style of play but do really miss his up and at them, never say die attitude and the fact he seemed to hate the rs as much as every true blue and just loved scoring against them.
An absolute steal at the price we paid and an honourary scouser if ever there was one.

{Ed025's Note - i agree azul, lovely guy..

26 Jul 2014 01:46:39
A wonderful servent, the only things that are glad to see the back of him are corner flags, he may not go down as one of our most technically gifted players of all time but he loved playing for the shirt and always gave his all, a legend all the same

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for the kind words guys! haha

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - good stuff syd..

His timing for meeting a cross was/is second to none. People talk about his jumping ability (which was awesome) but he also had the knack of losing a defender and meeting the ball at exactly the right time to hit it first touch. With either his head or his feet.

Hi Ed. what's happening with our new stadium, I heard a while ago there was meant to be an announcement. is there any truth to the rumour that were trying to get stanley park now that the reds have other plans?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - the reds are developing anfield i believe BN mate, there is no news lately on our stadium move, but the last one was about stanley park mate..

I think we need to hope we get the commonwealth games in liverpool and hope they are already building theres

Not really Everton related, but apparently Inter Milan are close to signing Gary Medel from Cardiff for €7.5 million (roughly £6 million). That's a bargain for a player as good as him. Really wish we were the team signing him.

{Ed025's Note - im a big fan as well NSNO..

We have a lot of midfielders don't think we need medel even though I'm a fan

I have been doing a bit of contemplating.weird I know. Just thinking about how the transfer window is panning out. I know most Blues are totally happy with RM and the way he set us up last season. I am a bit more cautious as Swan knows. That's not to say I think he will fail or anything, just that after years and years of let downs, a bit of cautiousness has crept in. Anyway, the point I wanted to make was that last season was a bit of a revelation. McCarthy, Barry and Lukaku in particular brought another dimension to our game. I know this is stating the obvious, butwith McCarthy and Barry secured, the missing link is obviously Lukaku. Now RM seems to be doing all he can to entice the big man to Goodison and it is also obvious that Jose M does not really rate him. Probably because of his attitude. Jose M is a bit like that. So onto my point.Lukaku is just 21 and already a good finisher and very strong. He is only going to get better unless he suffers a big injury. People talk about his value and other players such as Bony etc. In my view, it has to be Lukaku. 15 plus goals per season at 21 is a very good return. I cannot think of any other player who has done that other than Michael Owen and Rooney. Think that Andy Carroll went for 38 million (I think). Lukaku has to be worth anything up to that figure. I cannot think of another center forward who we could entice to Goodison who would give that sort of return and then probably improve with age. Bony might give similar goals now. but would he improve with age? I would say no. We just must get Lukaku to at least equal last season's level.

Agree 100%

Agree0 Disagree0

He will also have a potentially massive sell on fee .

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 01:06:29
I agree too except I don't think using Andy Carroll as a comparison is relevant he was worth 15 mill at the very most, so I would say 20-25 mil for Lukaku is about right.

McGinley 1975, I mate,
I posted days ago a lengthy insight into to the MO
of these agents. This "Shylock" is "at it" playing both ends for his wedge.Looks like for once I was right.
fleetwoodblue.
p.s. anyone else think this Besic has the look of Arteta?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Jul 2014 10:27:37
I have been watching this Besic, very interesting acquisition from what I have seen. He plays as an old school sweeper, Lothar Mattiaus type player. He reads the game very well and seems very strong in the tackle (never seems to dive in) for his size. He then basically gets the ball deep and either tries to spray a 50 yard monster pass or and more interestingly he tries to run the ball out of defence from very deep to about the half way line taking on several players.
He is not a conventional midfielder in any sense, and certainly seemed to be part of a back 4 or 5 of his club team. His distribution looks a bit iffy but he is quite unique in this day and age in terms of the role he was playing, ultimately its a role that if done well is a complete game changer and if done badly can result in disaster.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think he looks the type to give away a lot of free kicks in and around our final 3rd. Hopefully the coaching team can sort that out. Still excited about him though, only 21 and has plenty of potential. He's been brought in for cover for Mcarthey for now. Gibson isn't mobile or fit enough to do the Mcarthey role he doesn't have the engine, this lad does. So it's gibson for barry besic for mcarthey . In my eyes anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pb2 - read my op post back and think I came off too positive, in all honesty from what I saw he looks like he could be something special turning defence in to attack but at premier league level I fear he may get caught out a lot.
I get the McCarthy replacement thing but would be more excited to try at Least to utilise him as a sweeper and see what happens if he can take out the attack and midfield of the opposition and leave Mirallas, Barkely and who ever we have upfront playing 3 on 4 or 4 on 3 which is where we struggled last season. If you watch him he is obviously told to take the ball from their box and run past the wall of the bank of 4 in midfield opening up play. If he does it at us successfully those draws will be wins if he fails it will be defeats, I think RM is a gambler and I like it

Really pleased we have got Besic, him and McCarthy can have a great partnership, But 1 of RM's 3 or 4 signings has to be a keeper, Joel Robles is not Premier League standard, if Tim Howard is missing for any number of games he could cost us a lot of points. But Bobby knows best. I always thought £20m was too much for Lukaku but when you see some of the prices being paid out for average players, £20m does'nt seem expensive.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed. He never inspires confidence but Bobby seems to rate him. I'd sooner have the young Slovak as back up.

Is the hitch in the Besic deal over fees to be payed to agents ed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - thats part of it mac, everybody wants a slice of the cake mate..

4 - 5 mil deal these agents are shocking can see the slice being that much, I'm made up we have made a signing but I can't see besic being anything other than a squad player

So Ed what are you realistic hopes for the coming season mate? A good cup run maybe? You think the top four may just be out of our reach? Personally will a few more shrewd additions I don't think we will be a million miles away?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i want us to be competitive within the top 6 mac, of course top 4 would be great, but a good cup run and a high finish would do me mate, we are still in transition for me, and i think it may take bobby another year or 2 for us to become the finished article..

I'd be happy with a cup run myself, top 4 is most likely beyond us with the extra games we have

A run in the europa leage could be detrimental to our league placing if the squad is to thin.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2014 09:13:56
Yeah I totally agree with you about this being a transition period . Its a credit the managers, backroom staff and players though that we are up were we are, especially with the small amount of money we have to work with compared to a lot ofbthe other teams in the PL.

Been watching some obscure tournament in argentina called the copa libertadores and a couple of players who have caught my eye are hector villalba (19 year old pacey skillful right winger) plays for san lorenzo and the centre forward from the same team angel correa (a raw mixture of tevez and aguero playing style strong but small, pacey and skillful again only 19) 2 players I think we most likely will never sign, but testament that there are gems all over the globe who could become great players, but at the fraction of the price certain premier league clubs would pay for a lallana, a nani, or a tevez. I then later heard there were 4 of their players on the move this summer during argentinian close season. San lorenzo were champions and are losing their players, the one stand out move was correa leaving for athletico madrid. Got me thinking I really should go into talent spotting for efc and see if they'll give me a job

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The problem you have with young players from South America is work permits, although with there Spanish and Portuguese backgrounds the other European leagues seem to find a way around that

Agree0 Disagree0

A few teams from Europe have been looking at Correa. But as stated, work permits would be a problem.
