I, personally, did not want him during the summer, but it's looking like we've massively missed out by not taking a gamble on Jorginho (I know he may have been a 'Moyes Target', but that's irrelevant). I thought, and still maintain, that he wasn't great last season and none of you knew anything about him, but just all jumped on the bandwagon of demanding we get him because he was young, Brazilian and one person said he was alright. This season, though, he has genuinely been one of the best players in Serie A, and will likely end up at Tottenham or Liverpool for 3x the price we could have payed. I'm not saying we need him, by any means, just that we missed out on a good deal.

Totally agree, Hellas have been brilliant considering how rapid their rise has been, and he's been fairly integral - all hope not lost on the transfer front though

Agree0 Disagree0

If I recall correctly there were only a few banging on about Jorginho, probably because he was Brazilian, one of them was most likely the same fella posting ad infinitum about 'NEGRADO', judging by his unique posting style. It was hardly ad hominem like you portray. If we didn't want him, we didn't miss out on a 'good deal' as I'm sure we could've afforded the price tag that was doing the rounds, €7-8m if I remember correctly.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nah, second commenter, it was a lot of different people all saying we need him. That said, It may have been the NEGRADO or NEGRUDA (or however he felt like spelling it each time) guy. He was annoying. And we did miss out on a good deal. At that point, he wasn't worth £7-8m, but is worth far more now. Messi when he was 13 wasn't worth £1m, but it would have been a good deal in the end if we'd got him, would it not?

Agree0 Disagree0

You honestly expect an answer to Messi would've been a good deal at £1m?

Agree0 Disagree0

Of course I don't expect you to answer, but it's the same principal. If you can afford someone but think they're overpriced, so don't get them, then 3 months later they're legitimately worth 3 times more, you missed a good deal.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm sure that may be the case AB but we're not chelski or man city, we can't afford to take these risks as they don't always work out like that.

In the 60s we had a great midfield in Ball, Harvey and Kendall, in the 80s another great midfield with Sheedy, Reid and Bracewell. With great midfields we we were able to win a few trophies and had good times. in the 90s we managed to win the FA cup with a decent midfield . But what i'm asking now is are we on the verge of another great midfield with McCarthy, Barkley and Barry, Could this be another trophy winning season. KK.

Degsypulford here again. Thanks for all your interesting posts on the Baines and Moyes situations. I have obviously stirred a hornets nest. However, nobody seems to answer my questions.
1. If Baines decides to go in Jan.will he be slagged in the same way as Moyes?
2. What has Moyes actually said that shows total disrespect to us? I understand the one about holding back the careers of Baines and Felli.that is wrong.
. but that is the only one I have heard. All the rest is just the way the situation developed. ie he left one job to go to another at the end of his contract. If his initial employers (ie EFC) really wanted to keep him, they would have done whatever they could to keep him. If they couldn't match his ambitions at the time, then he has every right to move on. his contract was finished. We may not like reality, but that is what it is. Please do tell me what he has said or done that shows disrespect? Come on lads and lasses. tell me. give me examples.

Degsy. firstly if Baines goes I think every Evertonian would be gutted but I think a fair few would wish him well.he has never once indicated that he wants to go unlike Fellaini who stated afew times that he wanted out.He has served us well and just got on with it.TBH if we were to receive an offer of 20mill &he privately asks BK to go then we will have to deal.
As regards our previous manager.
I think its obvious why most EFC fans are disgusted by him

Agree0 Disagree0

Without being rude I cannot believe you don't understand why everyone hates Moyes these days. I'll make a few points to highlight the reasons.

1) Moyes slammed Man City for the Lescott saga, but he repeated it with us with Felli and Baines, he offered 'derisory' money and publicly said ‘I definitely do. But I also know that if I was the Everton manager and Sir Alex had come asking for Baines and Fellaini, I would have found it very difficult to keep them.
'I always felt the right thing to do was what was right for the players.
‘All we can do is our job here. Roberto is in a new job and I am sure he will get to understand how Everton work. I know exactly how Everton work. I signed every player at Everton.'
So not only was he contradicting all his principles he built at Everton, but he had a sly dig at Martinez in the process which is nothing short of disgusting.

2) He then has the cheek to claim the bid was not insulting by saying. 'there is no disrespect. This is just a case of making an offer.'
Even though the whole football world knew it was a joke, even though Man United journalists.

3) Then he questioned Everton's integrity which is quite baffling. 'I am not sure why they would make it public, that's not how it works, you would have to ask them the question'.

4) Then the final screw was waiting until the final day to get Fellaini and attempt to twist Baines' mindset despite all the moaning he did in the past about players being pinched from Everton on the last day like Rodwell and Arteta.

Thankfully everyone has got on with it and realised he was us sod all and was the most over-rated manager ever to grace the premier league

Degsy. I can't see how to compare the possibility of Baines leaving in January to when Moyes left in may.

We will get at least good money in January for Baines. But Moyes new that he was leaving us with nothing. I understand your points and largely agree that it's a very emotive topic. If I've got it hugely wrong then fair enough. But right now I don't see the situation that similar for them to be comparable.

How about him putting a bid in for Baines while he was still on our payroll?

Well said paddock. That was the cheekiest trick of all very sly indeed
