Massive game tomorrow night, win and we go fifth and all to play for. Lose/draw I think season will fizzle out.
RM knows if we are to get money in to improve the squad (and players who want to come to us) we must get 4th.
I think we must get 80 points minimum but RM says 71? Cannot see us getting 4th with that total.
Whatever, 3pts please tomorrow.

Definitely mate. My mate(NUFC fan) thought I was over-exaggerating things when I said that this arguably Everton's most important game of the season so far until explained the difference it could make.

I see the notts forest manager has been sacked and Warnock is inline to replace him, so happy to see that we have so much stability these days because the managerial roundabout exspecially in the championship is a bit of a joke, the constant sacking and re hiring of sacked managers is a farce, managers go round clubs continually and its the only job were a manager can get sacked over and over again yet still get another job

its getting pathetic and sort of embarrassing to be honest, it seems stability is the last thing many of these clubs look for

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The only problem is that stability didn't really get us anywhere.

I would've been delighted if moyes was sacked years ago.

Stability is good if you can see the manager at least trying to take the club forward. Hopefully Martinez is that man.

Agree0 Disagree0

A few years of stability got us out of the relegation fights, yes he couldn't take us much further but our club does have its limits in terms of spending etc, at least we built a team year on year rather than the trend of 10 players in 10 out that a lot of teams adopt

Agree0 Disagree0

Stability has got us nowhere? So stability was a bad thing? Of course it is, who wants to go from almost being relegated to consistently finishing in the top ten, hovering around the top teams in the top league. Who would want a solid team and solid set-up for a manager like Martinez to come in and take the steps forward. Without stability, you never know we might have won the league. Get real mate. I don't like Moyes' behaviour of recent times more than the next blue, but that stability he brought to the club was and is vital. It has allowed somebody like Martinez to come in and implement his plans.

Agree0 Disagree0

My mistake.

David Moyes is great. Thank you Davie, please come back and give us another 11 years of 'stability'. Never mind that we were dull to watch and have won bugger all for donkeys years. He got us in the top 10, yippeee.

David Moyes you absolute legend.

Nobody else in the history of the game could have 'achieved' what the Moyesiah did at his time here.

Agree0 Disagree0

Whether you are a Moyes lover or not the reality is that if he hadn't have walked out on us we would be accepting mediocrity still thinking that until we get a billionaire we won't win at old Trafford, win games 1-0 and spend the last 15 minutes of every home game having a coronary as the opposition batter our overworked defence.

Going from relegation fodder to stable top 8 was what we have to thank Moyes for. But that was achieved after 5 years of his tenure. Looking back I'm wondering if we ever would have improved from that as there was little sign in the following 6 years.

Now we have changed our outlook completely, thanks to an enforced change to our management and coaching staff. Only time will tell if Martinez can make league position improvements with a similar budget to his predecessors. In the meantime I think it's fair to say that we are all enjoying a much changed and exciting way of playing. More goals scored and yes maybe more conceded but not enough to lose matches.

We have an exciting end of season to look forward to - something Martinez is a master at. And if reports are true a bit of business to conduct in the summer

Bring it on!

Firstly, I enjoy the wholly sarcastic conversation and was tempted to reply sarcastically haha. however, I don't know how people can forget or undermine what Moyes has done. I am made up moyes is now go and he ws a total **** over the summer, I have lost fondness and respect for the man, however I still know that he built a very good team on little resources and had to deal woth losing his star man very often. And not not many could have done how he did over his reign, what he achieved was remarkable. That is why manchester united offered him the job, no other reason. i'm sure someone on here said it was because he was scottish, but I don't even have to say anythingto say on that worthless statement. most of our best players are moyes players, ones he brought in at exceptional prices, coleman one example. How many teams are trying and have tried to stabilise there clubs and failed or are failing? roberto is a breath of fresh air, he really is and wouldn't take moyes back if he paid me, but I am not deluded about the past.

The Real Mike #Legend

Agree0 Disagree0

Legend? How? Blue tit that was well put,

Agree0 Disagree0

The T*t using words like deluded again. Shouldn't use big words you don't understand, stick to the shorter less complicated ones. Then again you use words like 'past' too. And what past is that? The David Moyes negative, average, boring, scrape results past? Or the multiple Title and Cup winning past?

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Honest Blue. Oil Jennings, no need for such hostility. Firstly, have you used the same word twice? Me and The real Mike were having debate, a back and forth yet you feel the need to aimlessly and pointlessly insult my intelligence despite having no evidence to justify such actions. You insulted me by using 'tit' also, rather than backing up your point with an intelligent, structured argument. Yet I am the one who needs to consider the language I use? You should not get so abusive when somebody apposes your argument or opinion. I would like you to look down to your left, and pick up your dummy. I suppose when our premier league years were seemingly drawing to an end (for at least a short period), we should have just played exciting attacking football. After all that is more important than securing a long and successful stay in the premier league, isn't it? You see Moyes did what he needed in those circumstances and it worked well, did it not? Now we have took the step forward with Roberto Martinez, one which is needed and welcomed by all blues. It's about progression, something which I think we have done well. I think your opinions are purely emotively motivated which subsequently prevents logic from seeping in.

Agree0 Disagree0

The point I was trying to make about stability is it is ok as long as you see progression or results.

If in the next 5 years our finishes are say 6th, 7th, 8th, 7th, 6th and Martinez doesn't win a trophy.

Would you A) Give him a new contract. or B) sack him and get a new manager.

I would go for B. But I think most on here and even Kenwright himself would go for option A.

Oh and Oli is right. I am a Legend.

Agree0 Disagree0

I get your point mate. Now that we are stable, progression is key, but before Moyes, we was not stable, and that is my point. Put it like this, Moyes' ways was a necessary evil, but as I have reiterated change was needed and it is welcomed in the form of RM and hopefully progression follows. I would only say B if there was a promising prospect who could realistically do better than RM in this hypothetical situation. It is a difficult one though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Emotionally motivated? No. Motivated by logic. And I have a distaste for people using words like delusional to their fellow supporters. And it's not the first time someone hasn't agreed with you and you then respond with it. That is a non argument. It's what people resort to when they have nothing to actually go on.

Agree0 Disagree0

You also need to look up the word abuse. If that's abuse then I don't know how you'd react to someone actually abusing you.

I understand being realistic, but I feel that many everton fans lack optimism. Yes Arseanl are in a better position than us for the 4th spot, but that does not make it an unrealistic aim. We have a game in hand over them agianst Crystal Palace, a very winnable game at that. In my opinion that's a possible 5 point gap bewteen us and Arsenal. that would leave us with 8 games to close that gap and go ahead. It is difficult and on the balance of probabilities we are certainly more likely not to get it than we are. I believe that the next two fixtures are vital. A win against newcastle is a must, and if we do we head into the game against Fulham(which is another very winnable game) with a 5 point gap at the most(obviously depending on Arsenal's result against swansea) whilst Arsenal have a very difficult game against City. Yes there are many if's and but's but there always is and it works both ways in that we could either be in a bad position, the same position or an excellant position, for 4th spot in the next two games. Stay realistic by all means but come on, have a little faith and optimism. I also think the extreme high of Martinez's early start combined with the contrast of styles between him Moyes have set too higher expectations for fans and now things have slowed optimism has reduced. The tides can change quite swiftly.

Best post I've seen in a while that, mate. Fills you with confidence seeing posts like that.

I am looking optomistically saying we are looking good for 5th spot, but if results go our way then 4th is not out of reach. Arsenal have games where they could lose points as do we, but the games that are going to be pivitol in this run in are all at home to Manchester United and Arsenal in particular but also last home game against man city. Arsenal's big games are also at home apart from their meeting with us, and from their run in you would expect them to win if on form, but let's hope the stuffing they received at the weekend knocks the wind out thier sails and they start slipping up starting against swansea!

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post Craig and I agree. 5th is realistic (though 4th would be a dream) and much will be decided in the next 2 games are 'must wins' if we are to achieve CL. The return of Jags in central defence will be crucial and will bring back some confidence to the back four. No disrespect to John Stones who's come in and done a job but the the return of our captain should be enough to see off both Newcastle and Fulham.
