Love reading these Ed001 takes me back I remember a couple of players Mark Smith think Bristol and Dean Keates got a few discs in the left may get them out have a go again.

{Ed001's Note - if you end up addicted and divorced I am not going to accept the blame!!!}

Use to love finishing work at about midnight getting home and laptop straight on when I was young and single now older don't think the missus would appreciate it though the loft is calling.

{Ed001's Note - oh God what have I done?

I once dated a girl who loved champ man as much as me, and had been a semi-pro footballer until injury ended her career at 23. I would have married that girl given the chance! Though she was intelligent (studying bio-chemistry at uni at the time) so she had more sense than to put up with me! There has to be another one out there with a love of all things footie though, right?}

Ed001 my missus hates football but she knows how much Everton means to me and let's me have my time to watch the games and puts up with me buying the tops. The only thing she disagrees with is my Crest tattoo but I got it done when I was 18, 17 years before I met her, i think secretly she follows us as she knows all the players there's always someone out there.

{Ed001's Note - so what you are saying is your missus hates football but likes Everton. Or was that just when Allardyce was in charge as there was no football on show then?}

25 Aug 2018 18:15:07
She tolerates Everton as she knows how much they mean to me and as we've been having this conversation shes even agreed to go to a game omg I will believe it when I see it though going to get tickets sorted asap so she can't change her mind.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - do it quick while things are going well and you might get a convert.}

Good assessment of a player not suited to the PL Ed001.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - cheers sa. The more I watched him, the more I was surprised the club moved for him. It is a good thing the scouting set up was changed to bring in Brands, I doubt he would make such an obvious error. We all know that not every player will be a success but there are plenty of things that can mitigate the risk, none of which must have been done in Klaassen's case. He seems to be a 'stats' signing, as his stats are excellent but you watch him and you see a player that ends up a passenger for long periods without the basic fitness to keep up. For me, at his age to struggle with fitness, that would be a massive red flag against him and I would immediately rule him out. It suggests there is either a lifestyle issue, a training issue or an attitude problem or even a combination of the 3. Unless he is as far above the rest of the team as a Le Tissier was above the Southampton team of the time, you just can't afford passengers.}

I am let us say past the point of return in age but still do the same exercises I started doing properly at the age of 15 1/ 2 (joined up) , unfortunately the two things I absolutely love I can no longer do and that is football and running (well running up to a certain distance but then the hip locks up, quite embarrassing standing by the side of the road swearing at your leg to get a move on) . The 3 things Ed mentions are absolute in all walks of life plus the main one he left out and that is mental discipline. Older coaches like Pulis etc try and instill this in their younger players in all probability the way I and our older generation were taught. Younger coaches like the lad we have now, Silva, have the same attitude but go about it in a different way, arm round the shoulder and talk it out. Both methods in my view work and it depends on the individual. The stories coming out of finch farm about the players loving the intense programmes are a good compliment to Silva's methods and show they are building a Squad that embrace the positive mental fortitude needed at this level. If he and Brand carry on the way they have started, I am more and more certain that at last we are on the way up there where we belong.

{Ed025's Note - your right ktf and i like the fact that not only silva but many managers now see a players personality as the main priority, lots of very skillful players have fallen by the wayside because of personality flaws, like mirallas for us and balotelli for liverpool who have all the skill but are disruptive influences which will affect not only their game but that of the whole team, brands has said that its the main trait he looks for in a player and that works for me mate..

Question for Ed025, what do you think of the Yerry Mina signing? Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - difficult to say yet SB, if im honest he would not have been my first choice and i think we hugely overpaid but what do i know, he has to be better than ashley williams and hopefully better than keane who im not giving up on just yet, what i have seen of him he can be a bit clumsy but he is strong and very good in the air and a real threat at set pieces, marcel brands rates him and thats good enough for me though mate..

Think the same as Ed, however, Mina and Zouma are just what we need to complement our attacking prowess. For to long we have been lightweight in the centre, by that I mean once Jags legs went we have had nobody capable of holding their own. Mina and Zouma are no pushovers and will not be bullied. I would like to believe that is why Brands and Silva went down this route. This fella (Brands) has certainly delivered, I don't think any of us would believe he could have achieved what he has in one Window. If we retain top half (10) of better up to the January Window, it will be very interesting indeed.

Ed you've just described exactly how van dyke played when he first came to Celtic if he turns out like him we'll have a smasher on our hands well for two years at least.

{Ed025's Note - that would do me billy..
