Poor old Sweden. You could see it coming, but so late -- that's got to hurt. Germany dominated the game but imo they looked really disjointed and I'd have loved it if they went out. Oh well, Mexico won and Belgium won comfortably and England should do likewise tomorrow and on it goes.

Seeing as the news on street is we have to let 10 or more players go I thought I'd start a thread on it. Myself and Blue-tit talked about players to keep or on an earlier thread. Here is the ten I'd like to see go.

Schneiderlin,
Williams,
Niasse,
Rooney,
Bolassie,
Mirallas,
Martina,
Stek,
Garbutt,
Tarashaj.

With Mori and Robles already gone. That would be a big clear out. A needed one.

I can see some argument for keeping Stek as number 2 and possibly Rooney. As for the rest I'd be happy to see them move on and create room for others coming in.

Anyone want to keep some of the above players? If so, why? Or maybe there is some other players you would rather go on the list.

Stek is the only one i'd keep as i don't think we could get a backup keeper as good for the money we wold get for him.

Spot on NBTB.

23 Jun 2018 20:33:58
NBTB All depends on what the money people say at Everton regarding your list. Weigh up loss of transfer fee initial outlay to savings on wages. Either way the World Cup doesn't exactly enable Everton (and others) in particular to hit the ground running. I really do hope that Mr Moshri (and his advisors) are now wholly committed to the new Management/ Coaching Team for the long run because truth be told it is a long term project. Our fans not known for patience really do need to find it now.

Good post NBTB mate.

True ktf1950. Squad needs to be trimmed. Players are going. They need to go for this overhaul to happen.

23 Jun 2018 23:15:00
Can't argue with any of them NBTB. Understand keeping Stek as it's tough getting a back up.

I just hope we don't do the crazy buying of players from last year. Just a few quality players.

By the sounds of it we have a much more prudent plan this year.

You could add Galloway and Browning in there for me.

I think Gueye, Davies, besic, jmac benagime, Dowell, klasson, Rooney, Schneiderlin is ridiculous - how did we get into that position. 4-5 of them have to go surely.

Also scary how lots of very
recent signings who cost lots (wages too) seem like they have no real future: Rooney, klasson, Sandro, Vlacic, Martina, bollasi- I’d also question the logic in Walcott (age) . our best winger is lookman - surely needs to be one of first names in the sheet

You just wonder where the goals will come from next season - lot of pressure on Toulson. Only other goal threats really: sig, Walcott, lookman? Dowell and Niasse if he stays

Need to be careful we don’t bring in players who stop the likes of DCL, Davies, kenny, Dowell, Robinson, Hollgate, Benhigime developing - no easy answers - i'd personally go all out for a striker and a centre back. Let’s see what lookman, Dowell, Davies can do. Bring Robinson through also - young team full of energy.

I wouldn't argue with your list NBTB but would add a few more on the basis that I don't think all your list will go and we really do need to trim this squad

I'd add Sando and Klassen unless Brands/ Silva really think they can make the starting 11. I know there are some that say they haven't had chances but really they have and haven't been able to take them which indicates a weakness in the Premier League

I think Besic and McCarthy would also struggle to get in the side but one of them might be a good cover. Galloway and Browning I'm not sure of - they haven't exactly done great on loan. Are they going to develop to the level we require?

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Jun 2018 08:31:22
I'd be interests to see how many of those named actually move on NBTB in the next 2 years and who stays.

Let's see what Silva can do with them all first. Surely he'll know quite soon who is willing to play his style of football and who is capable of doing it well; as well as those surplus to requirement.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jun 2018 10:25:54
I did think of putting Galloway and Browning on it. Only reason I didn't was after selling Mori and Williams on that list we would be light at centre back if no one was signed. I know they would not be ideal but imho your better giving youth a chance than keeping the likes of Williams. Could easily add them to the list.

McCarthy and Besic could easily be added too. The reason I didn't is their commitment when playing is unquestionable and they are both still in their mid twenties. If their injuries persist by all means let them go.

Klaasson for some reason I totally forgot about. Unfortunately can't see him getting into the first team at this stage so I'd move him on.

Sandro on the other hand I would try and keep and give a proper chance. He could fit into Silva's style in my opinion.

In general I would love to see youth given a good chance. Obviously blended in with the more senior players. All the young players mentioned above are worth given a chance imho rather than keeping the players on that list. The noises coming from the new team at the club indicate that they will get that under Silva. Hope it comes to fruition. I believe it will. We will all need patience with it. Seems the approach is more shrewd from here on in. It will be a long road but one worth taking imho.

Schneiderlin could stay, he has quality and it’s ilto the manager to get him to perform like he can.
The rest are surplus, I like Bolasie when he’s on his game in fairness to him he returned from a lengthy injury.

The good thing is and I hope it continues that we do our business quietly until confirmed. Then announce it.

wouldn't flog oumar, the lads a nuisance and somehow gets goals, surely good enough for a squad player he's proved he can score goals, cup games etc he'd do a job.

whenever we look for a c/ back, we always seem intent on picking the worst on the market.
Last year, it was Keane, who I have yet to see have a convinceing game. The year before, Williams, who had a good euros purpul patch, but, at his best, was never more than a very average jorneyman.
We have awarded Penington a 3 year contract, when he has juat spent a year unable to hold down a place in a very poor championship side, and now, by reports, are seeking to buy an unconvinsing Croation for a big fee who left his last club on a free. Can only hope this is paper rubish, and that Brand can get a grip.

Let Brands and Silva do their work mate, they know who they want.

23 Jun 2018 18:05:00
How can you call Williams a journey man when he’s only had 2 clubs in the last 10 years. I agree he’s not been great for us but come on. Also you failed to mention all the good defenders we have had, the likes of Jags, Stones, Lescot, Distan, and I’m sure there’s some I’ve missed.

Like GB says, let’s let Brands do what he does best.

23 Jun 2018 22:27:01
When we bought Keane, everyone thought we’d bagged a future England CB. Doesn’t always work out. When we bought Williams he came off the back of a fantastic tournament in the Euros. Can’t accuse the board of buying cheaply. On paper, we bought the best that was available.

Anybody else think Belgium could just win the world cup.

Believable2 Unbelievable4

23 Jun 2018 15:17:37
They are certainly in with a good chance, the so called big guns have yet to really step up not sure how they will stand up to them.
If I was a betting man I would throw a fiver at them.

I think this may be the year for an unusual suspect to come away with the cup. Belguim have a fairly strong all round sqaud with some top top players whp are experienced npw so ye they certainly could.

If Lukaku had a top first touch he would be unstoppable. Still needs work on that.

23 Jun 2018 15:39:16
With Martinez in charge? No.
They are always going to concede and against the elite teams are they going to create enough for Lukaku.

Mexico nice little outsiders, are they the Leicester of the world cup.

Agree1 Disagree1

23 Jun 2018 20:05:19
I got 150-1 on Mexico before their first game so I hope you're right johny.

24 Jun 2018 13:02:30
I actually think Martinez is brilliant at cups. Plus he is not the players main coach (club level) So they way he ruined us wouldn't happen quite the same at international level. He was great in the first season with us and won a cup with Wigan. I believe the internation game suits him much more.

25 Jun 2018 09:21:19
still conceded sloppy goals against Tunisia, let's see them against a decent attack, same can be said for us.

23 Jun 2018 12:46:04
So Funes Mori moves on for an undisclosed fee somewhere between £9.5m and £17.5m depending on what paper or media source you read
You could also read this as the press haven’t a clue what is going on at Everton now that Brands is in place.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I don't know why as the amount has to be put in the papers they submit to the FA. More of a problem is whether they give the basic amount or whether they include add ons. That can create massive variation if the deal is based on appearances the player makes etc.}

23 Jun 2018 21:11:18
So the true value will come out eventually then?

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2018 08:24:53
The Jack Wilshire rumours won't go away.
Hopefully there's nothing in them. 5 mill a year in wages for a player who is injury prone, has a questionable attitude and doesn't fit Silvas remit as a player.
Let's not make the same mistakes as last season.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

23 Jun 2018 10:58:21
I said years ago that he was overrared and got slated for it haha.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2018 12:25:47
Think it's his injury record that scares us as he will command a hefty wage and we are already stuck with players on high wages on his day no doubt he has great skill and is a wonderful player but it's a risk worth leaving imo.

23 Jun 2018 12:32:19
