While I do want to win a trophy I still think Joel, Besic, Mori, Mcaleny and Deulofeu should play alongside some of who played today like Stones, Coleman McCarthy and Lukaku against Barnsley, still a strong team and good enough to beat them.

I thought we played well today. I thought Jags and Stones were class. its obvious we need another proven goal scorer though. Not sure this kid from Uruguay is going to cut it at this level. Hope I'm wrong there

Believable1 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2015 22:25:07
From what I have seen from people who have supposedly watched him numerous times he is more like a second striker as opposed to a straight up number 9. We shall see, hope him and Mori do well.

Don't mean to be funny. How can you write someone off before they have signed? How often have you seen him play?

18 goals in 71 appearances, in a pretty weak league, doesn't look all that great :/

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2015 11:00:27
Tmh you can't use that as a reason not to rate the guy, it may have been the players around him were garbage mate, and I know a good striker will always get goals but if you don't get the service then you don't score

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 21:42:31
Thought the lads played well today.just beaten by a better team and no shame in that.i just hope that their heads don't go down a bit as we will not be playing city every week. Thought roms free kick was unlucky two inches lower and it would have hit the net. Never thought two inches would make that much difference but I will have to confirm that with the wife.thought maybe a bit more width and pace would have suited us better but let's move on and stay positive.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2015 22:27:01
This is one of the things I loved about Lennon, he always makes himself available and stays out wide mostly. I know he is no Yarmolenko in terms of technical ability but I would still love him back.

24 Aug 2015 07:24:18
agree alan thought we played well today city lookin very good right now hope to see some signings before spurs game 3 points would be great result and give us confidence to push on tough run of games ahead for me if we can take 18+ points from first ten games we should be nicely placed for a much easier second half

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2015 09:03:48
the big difference was the extra bit of class and composure they had in the right areas, they always looked like they could score we lacked that final ball, Gerry came on far to late and had no time to adjust to the games pace, really think he need 90 minutes on Wednesday.

Agree2 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 21:41:23
Can't blame the players today, not even Howard (he did make some good saves). For me once we went one down we needed to change the formation. We took a striker (?) off and brought another grafter on. That meant we had four grafters in midfield but no creativity. Should have had both Kevin and Doofy on and had a go. It was almost like RM was thinking 1-0 won't look to bad. The team is crying out for creative players, but what's the point if you don't play them. And giving them 5mins at the end is just embarrassing. PS. Barry thanks, but I'm afraid you should be joining Stevie and Frank now mate.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

23 Aug 2015 21:24:58
Played well today, city were just too strong no shame in that, but we had 2 pacey wingers on the bench in a game that from our point of view was crying out for width! I think that both mirallas and del should of came on at the 60 minute point, change the formation to 442 and took Barkley and Barry off, cleverly and McCarthy in the middle with the two winger whipping in crosses for the kone and lukaku to attack! Really want to see us play that sort of team! Come Martinez give us some width and two strikers!! :-)

Believable2 Unbelievable1

23 Aug 2015 21:32:38
Disagree Barkley looked like the one that could make something happen I would of took Barry off dropped cleverly alongside McCarthy and brought mirralas on, Del Boy needs to get hungry he has so much too learn if he is going to be a regular in our side

Agree2 Disagree1

23 Aug 2015 22:01:23
Yeh your right Barkley played well, your idea sounds good aswell, I just want width when we play, want to see crosses for the big men in the box, will cause defenders and keepers all sort of problems, maybe he will try it for the Barnsley game, might give del and mirallas a starting place hope to see besic get a game aswell

That Dynimo or what ever the hell there name is well I will tell you one thing the president of that club should be ashamed of himself that is twice now is has stopped that lad from playing real football shame on him and ed I'm going to say how I feel. He is nothing but a dirt bird that lad gave everything to that club and now it's time for him to move on to a bigger club yes that's us I hope now Yarmolonko runs his contract down and leaves for nothing next year. And before anybody try's to bring Stones into it Stones has not earned his so called big money yet.

Silva a little genius on the ball for

Crying out for width. few options for a pass and Delefeu sent on too late to make an impact

Believable2 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2015 19:07:28
I might be changing my tune a bit here but I'm swaying more towards the sale of stones
1. If it's £40m or above
2. If those funds are immediately reinvested on incoming players.
My reasoning for this is although stones is obviously a class act, for me he's in no way a match winner or game changer, although Howard did his usual party trick by diving away from the ball and getting beat at his near post I've got to say stones was ball watching and got done.
What we need is a cb doesn't have to be world class just someone that can come in and do a decent job, a keeper because let's face it Howard is crap and burnt out whatever he had at the last World Cup, but what we are lacking most of all is someone that can stick it in the net because kone will never be that player, Charlie Austin is a no brainer, scores in for fun in any league.

no shame in losing to the best team in the league, in my opinion bobby should have brought super kev on early in the 2nd half to put pressure on the 2 defenders they had booked, i'm pretty sure with a couple of signings we will be just fine this season. coyb!

Good post mate couldn't agree more.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 19:32:36
It was obvious to all those with a White Stick and Labrador that we were getting done down our left flank. You cannot expect a striker to play in that position. We were exposed time after time and this is all Martinez's fault. Two wingers on the bench who would have given us width, protection down the flanks and a chance going forward by taking players on, and loopy drawers keeps them on the bench.

We've got the players to do well, we just need a manager to do the same now.

Agree2 Disagree1

23 Aug 2015 23:06:24

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - your right there aflm..

24 Aug 2015 00:56:41
aflm78-You make a fair point mate but I do have to disagree on Mirallas, he tracks back a lot more than people give him credit for, very rarely leaves Coleman or Baines exposed, his pace certainly helps and imo he would of helped Galloway a lot better than Kone.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Aug 2015 07:38:46
all fair points but after last weeks great performance I think same eleven deserved to start again delboy and mirallas not long back from injury think we will see a lot more of them in coming weeks with the new signings we should have some real attacking options this season

You're right Swan as soon as I posted it I thought that it might be a little harsh on Kev wouldn't say he's fantastic at it but he does try to help. I think it was just that the steviegee's post annoyed me a little as it was being overly critical of Martinez for no reason.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ratings:
Howard-7.5-Some great saves today, need to see the first goal again but he did well regardless of whether he messed up or not.

Coleman-7-Odd one this for me, while watching the game I was so annoyed with him as I thought Sterling was destroying him but when I really think about it, Sterling didn't get past him once, he just sort of went one way then the other. Would of liked to have seen more of him going forward.

Stones-7.5-Had Aguero pocketed and is so good on the ball, great watching him again.

Jagielka-7-Tried to get us going but he isn't vocal enough as a captain, great defender though and today he was typically solid.

Galloway-6-Feel sorry for the kid today for a few reasons, the main one being his injury, the second being Navas was clearly too quick for him but he did get a few good blocks in. The 3rd issue was Kone, I said before the game that Kone should not play for the simple reason that he cannot track back and offered no support for Galloway. The kid is going to be a star at Centre Back, for me he isn't good enough going forward and lacks the pace of say Oviedo or Baines. We may need Garbutt back asap or get Oviedo back in the team if he isn't injured. Galloway will be great though and our fans didn't help, I will get in to why in my rant below.

McCarthy-6.5-Ran and used the ball well but was bossed by Toure and Silva most of the game.

Barry-5.5-It is sad to see the decline of Gaz, he was absolutely brilliant in his first season and I actually voted for him as player of the year. His second season he played too much with Europe and all. Now he is simply too slow with his reactions and his passing. Falls over too much.

Barkley-6.5-Drove us forward when needed and did well when he had the ball, out fans though!.

Cleverley-8-I'm not going to lie, I was clapping til my hands were red when he went off. He's not a winger but despite being played out wide, he supported Coleman, even outpacing Sterling at one point which was just strange. He worked his arse off today, put in some great crosses too, was composed and barely lost it. Great today, not going to lie.

Kone-6-Had some great passages of play when he had the ball, kept it well but for someone being utilised as a winger, he didn't track back and that moment in the first half when he should of smashed it out but lost it. Would of been better as a sub, not the game for him today, I put that down to Martinez using him wrong more than Kone being bad, which he was to be fair.

Lukaku-6-Now let me make one thing perfectly clear, Romelu Lukaku is NOT going to win every header, we need to give him the ball early and let him run. He wants the ball at his feet and we hoof it which is mainly due to our fans again. He barely got a touch as no one was giving him it when he was the best option. He dropped deep at times to collect the ball and no one gave him it. He is best used when running at Defenders and NOT with his back to goal. If you want to use him as a bettering ram then you better have some quick wingers to pick up the pieces and keep the attack going. Instead we tried to use him as one when we had a Striker and Central Midfielder out wide and none of them are quick enough. Completely misused today.

Browning-7-Kept Navas quiet when he came on, isn't a Left Back clearly and still did well, another we will lose if our fans have their way.

Naismith-6.5-Came on and instantly outjumped Kompany, Naisy is a freak at jumping, his touch was good and we had a few moments but couldn't break them down.

Before all the Martinez out and moaning begins, try to remember that we have just been beaten by the BEST team in the League and did more against them then Chelsea and West Brom combined. I am of course disappointed but not angry, they are the best and will win the League. No shame being beat by the best.

Now let me get on to the biggest issue at the Club at the moment, not the results, performances or even transfers. It is our fans, now I don't mean everyone, I mean the people who do nothing but moan at the match. I had a really annoying rent a gob sat 2 rows behind me and he would not shut up from the 1st minute. His main issue was with Lukaku, he called him all the names under the sun (BUT NO RACISM JUST TO MAKE THAT CLEAR), his Scouse accent was thick as hell and his voice was so high pitched it was like his testicles had been cupped by the Hulk. Galloway was slaughtered all through his playing time, yes he was struggling, it dors not help him when people are calling him 'sh*t' and 'useless', he is a kid Centre Back put at Left Back due to injuries, you slagging him off does not help things, it only makes them worse. Barkley, I said to my Dad before the game I guarantee you Barkley will be abused by a lot of people after his first mistake. He lost the ball and instantly the abuse comes, 'boooooo' is all I could hear. He did well today and it will reach the point when none of them will want to play anymore. Browning was also booed by the silly 'supporters' who must of been expecting Roberto Carlos reborn, but no, he is a kid Centre Back being played at Left Back due to injuries like Galloway. There was a point in the second half when Coleman, Stones and Jagielka exchanged abtotal of 4 passes (which is hardly any) and the fans were booing. They boo to hoof it then boo when we lose it from the hoofball. There is no pleasing them, we have by far the most miserable and hate filled fan base in England in terms of abuse given to players and boo's for no reason. The Football today was not perfect but we played some nice stuff at times and still the boo boys are not happy. We were beaten by the best, there was 2 Evertonians in the Lower Bullens where I sit arguing about who is worse Osman or Barry which is beyond stupid. When I say arguing I mean full on swearing at each other and getting real personal, how pathetic. The last thing, on my way down the steps and out the ground there was a man punching the wall crying and calling Barry a horrible c u next tuesday. Do I even have to explain how stupid that is?. We were beaten by the better team and were far from awful, GET OVER IT. Now I am in no way having a go at anyone on this site, I mean the people who go the game and do nothing but scream and shout about how we are not winning every game 5-0.

On to what could of been improved, Kone on the wing was a mistake, Lukaku was used in the wrong way, we needed Kev or Doofy Loofy on a lot earlier than with 10 minutes to go. Seen us play better but seen us play far worse.

Hope the fan who was stretchered off is okay, have no idea what happened but something was wrong, hope he is okay.

Sorry for the rant, if you disagree then I understand and fair enough.

Totally agree mate with all that, fair assessment on the players and also of the minority at the game. I sit upper bullens and have the same issue with some around me. We were beaten by a superior side on the day and there is no shame in that. I know I shouldn't say it being a blue but I always enjoy watching David Silva this fella is talented and sees a pass in seconds and always finds space. All in all disappointed we lost but can't fault the effort.

Dont know where u sit Swan or what you were watching but Coleman was excellent today, taking on the City defence, its the best game he's had for a long time. And yes Sterling never got past him, only to pass to Kolorov to beat Howard at his near post. Coleman a 9/10 today easy.

Agree4 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 20:36:04
I want to know who has kidnapped Swan and replaced him with this new version! Spot on Swan, can't disagree with anything you say in your post mate. Although I will add that, at times, I believe booing is just a way of showing displeasure at the way the team is playing, fans pay enough cash to watch them. That said, it has to be aimed at the manager or team, not at an individual for making a bad pass etc

Agree2 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 20:52:32
People do pay plenty to watch the game and booing is part and parcel of the game but every game? In the first minute? Or the first thing a player does wrong? Players are going to make mistakes no matter how good they are, that's also part and parcel of the game. Can't see how targeting a player benefits anyone but I know what your saying spudv people have a right to voice their opinions

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 22:06:14
NBTB, totally agree players will make mistakes during a game and it is ridiculous to boo them for that, without a doubt. But if it's aimed at the manager for bad tactics or the team, as a whole, for not puttin a shift in then I don't blame the crowd for voicing their displeasure. Since the team were booed off at h/t v Watford, we seem to be playing a lot better

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 22:25:22

Should have done better at this level with the two free kicks on edge of penalty area by Lukaku and Barkley. Neither being on target or threatening. Hitting the bar is not on target or making the goalie work who would have been well beaten. Good argument for extra training on set pieces this week. Otherwise still lacking goal threat up front.

Everton certainly haven't disgraced themselves by any stretch of the imagination but City have just been different class.
Still a good test of where we're at though and I'm a lot more confident than I was at this point last season.
Keep hold of our young stars and up and coming players and add a few more quality players and I think we'll fare we'll this season.

Believable0 Unbelievable9

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 19:20:49
Anything but a Martinez fan, but, think we played well today, against a very good side. My main concern right now ,is that Martinez takes his rose tinted glasses off, in respect of tim howard. Before the window shuts, we need to find a top keeper.Even the watford second goal should have been a routine stop for a top class goalkeeper, and today breakthough goal meant we had to chase the game, instead of staying compact, and playing on the break.

Cannot see him playing the same team that played against Southampton. Mainly because Kone is less likely to track back on Kolarov and Sterling to help Coleman out so wouldn't be shocked if Mirallas comes in. Pellegrini said Otamendi isn't playing today (I think) so hopefully we can get Lukaku up against Mangala as often as possible as he destroyed him last season. Hope the fans are up for it today, cannot cope if after 30 seconds people are booing and screaming to hoof the ball up, we do it and then they boo because we hoofed it. If you're going to boo Barkley after his first mistake, he will only make more, be patient, we are facing easily the best team in the league. Thankfully we are usually up for it against City so let's get the 3 points COYB!.

If the Chelsky defence is still AWOL today and we produce a good desplay against City then tomorrow we could have a bid from Chelsea for Stones that's enough to buy a small country!

They've enquired about Varane from Real as they know that Stones WILL NOT be sold - as everybody should now know and accept

I think if we were getting yarmolenko we would of signed him by now. Maybe his agent using us to get him to a champions league club? I've never known a club take so long to get deals done!

In this case I'd be more inclined to blame the selling club rather than whoever is negotiating. Kiev have messed other clubs around when they have put in a bid for this player, if I remember right Liverpool met his buy out clause a year or so ago but still never got their man.

Interesting comments made on the Sunday Supplement today on sky, unanimous agreement Stones be better off in the short term staying at EFC and EFC would be mad if they sold him in this window to Chelsea. At last some common sense from some journo's.
