Just throwing this out there folks but what are people’s opinion on Tom Davies?, I personally thought he had a shocking season and is becoming a bit of a myth in terms of the plaudits he gets. For me if he wasn’t a ‘local’ and home grown, he doesn’t get in our team at all, but I know others who rave about him? I wonder if this is because of the poor way we treated Barkley who imo was a better player at the same age? Thoughts folks .

I think he had a great first season but dipped last year as often happens with youngsters. He was also mucked about by the different managers playing him in different positions and being in and out of the side.
I am sure he will make the grade just give him time, he needs to learn to play a certain role I think.
How can you say Barclay was treated badly, he rubbish on us treated Everton like dirt, and for his own financial interest stalled on his Chelsea move so we got less money and he lined his own pockets.
His career will be a failure and he will be a rich man, he is all that is wrong with the modern game, Barclay is scum in my eyes, a discrace to Everton our great city and the game of football.

Can't blame Tom for being poor last season. Our whole squad, barring Pickford, was crap. To pick on an individual is wrong imo. Think he needs a settled, stable squad, who know what they are asked of them. Seen a lot of posts saying Davies runs round like a headless chicken, well at least he ran and tried to get the ball back. The kid will come good in the end.

23 Jun 2018 07:06:11
Second season syndrome for me which happens to all players you have to remember he turned 19 last season so still very young add to the mix two manager's who struggled and one thing that always impressed me was he never hid he always wanted the ball I feel he will of learnt a lot and will have a very good season under marco.
The thing that annoys me is does he get a free pass because he is local well I disagree with that Blu1 where I sit in the lower Gladys I argue with fans who do nothing but give that kid abuse it's like they wait for him to miss control or misplace a pass it's one thing that pisses me off how quick our fans are to get on the local lads back whereas they should get our full support more than other player as they are one of our own.

23 Jun 2018 07:47:06
Davies wasn’t given much of a chance last season compared to the season before, when Koeman was in charge he played most of our games but we made a couple of signings last summer and he has dropped to the bench so hasn’t really had time to blossom.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Jun 2018 08:52:45
He gives the ball away a lot and I’m not sure what his best position is, but then Allardyce and Koeman’s constant changes wouldn’t have helped that. I really don’t know what all the hype is about because I don’t see him as a top six player in the long run, but happy to be proved wrong if he has a good season.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Jun 2018 10:48:53
I echo a lot of what others have said positively about him here. He is very young at 19 and won't get to his best for another 8 years!

If I can point out one example of what he offers no other does it was the Derby at Anfield. He came on and won the ball in midfield, passed to a centre back to get better position, asked for the ball back then moved it forward quickly, passed it to the right touchline when by the centre circle, continued his run into the box where the ball was crossed in by the man he passed to and went for the header, on the 90th minute!

We don't have other players who do that.

He try's his best but at his age his composure and inexperience gets him into trouble. The more he plays the better he'll get. I think a stint on loan at a lower team might make him grow a bit and get a bit of arrogance about him. However, we don't have another no8 who is as good as him.

It's a bit unfair on him on such an important area but Silva's formation might suit him.

Agree0 Disagree1

23 Jun 2018 11:05:24
He is 19. 19 years of age. He has done well to get to this level at this age. He is hugely talented. Last season he played in a mismanaged, disjointed, unbalanced shambles with no creativity, cohesiveness and no fluidity to gameplay. Expecting a 19 year old kid to flourish in those conditions is absurd to me lads. Plus there is second season condition. Bottom line is we have a great prospect in tom davies. Look what happened with dier and mustafi, club didn't have the patiennce with them. Suares wasnt exactly a world class player at that age.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2018 15:31:41
Think he is a great young talent who needs game time and like all players a settled system. We have not had that since moyes say what you want about the guy but he had a settled team. I think all our youngsters are our future names on next 3 seasons team sheets.

Thanks all, good to get a feel for Opinions etc. where I sit you can’t say a bad word against the lad which is fair enough. I agree he had awful conditions last year, that can’t be argued against and the ‘2nd year’ syndrome which we all talk about but don’t really understand why it happens too! . In terms of Barkley, I just felt the lad got so much stick when he played, even after all the matches on phone ins etc. I thought it was so over the top and I wondered if some of our fans have learned from that and are giving Davies a ‘fairer’ deal shall we say. The way he left the club I have not one problem with, on not one occasion did he A) Lie to the fans, B) make false promises c) have one bad word to say, in fact unlike most pro’s in the modern game he stayed silent whilst the club gave deadlines that came and went, stayed silent under abuse from fans and we also made about 14,85mill profit on him. No loyalty from clubs nowadays so why do we expect if from players? I certainly don’t, !

Brazil were average again earlier and Costa Rica were unfortunate not to get a point out of the game. They had very little to offer going forward but were strong and resolute in defence. Nigeria played two different games just now. First half they were tedious but second half they came to life and started playing to their strengths. Iceland were outplayed after the break and that dubious penalty miss by Gylfi was awful.

What tactics formation and style of football do you all think silver will have us playing next season i know it's a bit early and we haven't got the players he wants yet but just wondering what we are going to see at the old lady we we have something to smile about or will it all be a bit cagey.

I think by what I've read 4-3-3 is his formation choice so hopefully Lookman and Walcott will thrive up and down the wing. The three in midfield should hopefully include Sigurdsson as a number 10 because that's where his class truly shows. I think and I hope we'll play a high energy press and in the faces of opponents but he has stressed the importance of defensive organisation and so I feel our play found be very adaptable. Since Roberto, I feel as if we never attack the big boys and being so reactive has left us with some really poor results. With additions at the back and possibly a new midfielder to go with Gana, I feel like we'll take he game to the bigger teams more. Would love Goodison to be rocking again.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Jun 2018 19:06:16
His track record has been attacking so I think / hope the days of two DMs at home are over. I would say three at the back but he’d end up playing there himself at the moment with Funes Mori going.

I’d personally like a back three at home with Coleman and Robinson/ AN other as wing backs and a three with Gylfi in the middle of them behind Tosun. Not sure who the three would be because Williams is shot, Jagielka needs to be phased out next season and I’m not convinced at all by Keane. Gana in front of that as a CM, Lookman, Gylfi and Walcott then Tosun up top.

Was thinking very similar joe.

22 Jun 2018 19:28:19
If we go with back 3 would anyone use Coleman as right cb? Similar to England using walker. Gives Kenny rwb role knowing Coleman has pace behind him to recover.

Agree2 Disagree0

22 Jun 2018 22:41:15
Like the idea of that GJ but dare I say it but I’d like to think that we’d have a bit better than Kenny in that spot but I’m all for giving the lad a go!

23 Jun 2018 07:36:36
Doesn't have to be Kenny. That's just who we got atm.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2018 07:55:27
He likes to play 433 or 4231. I see Gana fitting into a 4231 but unless he disciplines himself i fear it will be Schneiderlin playing a lone DM.

Would anyone take a punt on Ben Mee only one year left on his contract would probably get him for about 15 million, thought he and Michael Keane with outstanding together I would be worried if we signed a foreign centre-back as I thought at times last season keane was a liability at least he and Mee are a proven Premiership centre-back pairing.

i like your out of the box thinkig on this one but would personally have some other preferred defenders.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2018 18:23:04
If memory serves Keane only had a year left and could end up costing £30m not sure they would let Mee go for effectively half the price
Plus he has Europe this season which might be his only taste of European football now so would probably resist the move.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2018 18:57:09
Keane was 25M with add ons like an extra 5M when we win the Champions League! Might'nt need to pay that for a while! Plus he's 24 and Mee is 28 also they've replaced him with Tarkowski who's since been capped for England hence my 15M valuation.

Would anyone take Loftus-cheek? Surely he will get a chance against Panama. I think ed025 isn't too keen but could be a good signing potentially. Stylistically he is great but can he step up? I wouldn't mind if we had a punt on him. Him Lozano Lasscelles and a left back dor me :)

I was a little disappointed that he didn't start the other night.

22 Jun 2018 18:03:25
I doubt if we can get him if he has a good world cup, signing top players will be virtually impossible, we have to build a team from scratch sadly.

22 Jun 2018 19:12:21
Loftus-Cheek is probably the most dynamic yet powerful CM I’ve seen in years. Quality player and will have the world at his feet over the next 18 months so would imagine it’s unlikely. That said, I didn’t think we’d get Lukaku either so never say never. We may get him on loan for a year but not sure we’d get an option to buy.

23 Jun 2018 11:14:09
Is also 3 years older isn't he?

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2018 10:46:41
I would personally let McCarthy go if the right offer came in. Great player but believe we hold on to players too much. wouldn't it be better to push on Davies and beni and buy a quality CM to go next to Gueye? Plus ypu have the Ireland dispute ie he's not fit for us but fit for them. oh he's injured again. great player brilliant character and an outstanding work rate but we should be a bit more ruthless in our player cull. He is similar to Gueye as well in style.

Believable4 Unbelievable4

22 Jun 2018 15:41:32
Don't get that. I would hold onto him and Besic. Still both relatively young and have talent. Hard to get players better than them. I'd let Schneiderin.

Agree0 Disagree1

22 Jun 2018 15:45:16
Yeah I agree. He's a bit of a cult player and fans love those types.
Nothing remotely pretty about his game and frankly a red card is always likely.

He does breath fire though and if a team isn't up for it, he's the sort to drag his side across the line. Still has age on his side and I wish the guy a great last 6 to 8 years.
Time to move on 18 months ago in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree1

22 Jun 2018 17:32:55
He's just never fit and with this injury will probably exacerbate things further.

I like Mo and think there is a quality player in him but it's a similar story to James.

If we have to trim the squad drastically as mentioned then these two are probably first on the list.

Agree1 Disagree1

22 Jun 2018 18:13:13
Ntbt I like him and he is a good player. But I feel its time to move on. I disagree though I think he is replaceable. I don't think he offers much different to other mids. He isn't exactly loaded with technical ability and i think that's what we need. His injury record isn't pleasent and his international side seem to play silly buggers. he's similar to Gueye. So what will we do keep besic McCarthy Davies 2 injury prone players and no real playmakers with in th including beni. We need to roll forward not dragging players along with us. Maybe loan besic but ai would sell before i put him in the team next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2018 19:15:08
One thing he does offer is flexibility in switching between a back three and back four because he can play CDM in front of a four or drop back into a three man defence.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2018 20:05:43
I agree Blue-tit. Its 50-50. Anymore injuries and he has to go. I'd just hate to see him go and never get injured again. Which could happen. Same with Besic.

Both of them play every game as if its a cup final which can't be said for many players these days. That means a lot in my book. That's why I'd rather see Schneiderlin go. Was a disgrace at times last year with his not bothered attitude.

There is as good and better out there I agree. Problem is getting them to Everton. Big money and spending more that could be used elsewhere. Even if we get the players we want still no guarantee they will work out.

In short, imho keep with fingers crossed they stay fit. Plenty of other players I would rather see go like Schneiderlin as mentioned, Williams, Niasse, Rooney (mainly because of wages) Bolassie, Mirallas, Martina, Stek, Garbutt and Tarashaj. That's 10 I would rather see gone and think are less valuable to the club than McCarthy and Besic.

Obviously my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2018 11:19:01
Great point about the workrate everygame and Sniederlin. I agree about Sneiderlin. When his form dipped I wanted him to stay but it wasnt just a form dip he is just not bothered at times, doesn't try and doesn't care and has showed that before he came. He would be the first out for me. If we could put McCarthys brain in Sniederlins body we would have a top class player though haha.

23 Jun 2018 11:28:58
Too right Blue-tit. Club should look into doing transplants for the players.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

22 Jun 2018 09:57:56
Depends if we sell Schneiderlin. If he goes we will need him to sit in front of the back 4. Gana is more of a wanderer, all be it an effective one.

Agree1 Disagree1

22 Jun 2018 10:28:34
I feel like he is a different type of player to Schneiderlin though. McCarthy is more of a ball winner and has a more limited range of passing than Schneiderlin. If anything I feel like McCarthy and Gana are maybe too similar to be in the same team (loads of press but not much else) . Schneiderlin seems to operate more in the Barry mold of sitting deeper.
