Still buzzing after last night. Think we are so close to having a right go this year. Personally i think we need a top notch midfielder to go beside gibson, fellis spot is now behind jelavic. I hear huddlestone being suggested the man has no mobility and we play a high tempo which wouldnt suit him.
Wouldnt mind someone young to come in and learn from the older lads. I know alot arent gone on him but i think Steven Nzonzi would really add to out squad.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Juinor could be worth a punt. He is only 20 but looks a very good prospect and can get from Box to Box and is good in possession of the ball and has a good range of passing. The Leyton Orient game coming soon gives us a good chance to rest the whole 1st team and give our second string a go. I would play.

GK J.Mucha RB S.Coleman
LB L.Garbutt
CB S.Duffy
CB J.Heitinga (capt)
CM F.Junior
CM R.Barkley
RW K.Mirallas
LW M.Gueye
CF S.Naismith
CF V.Anichebi

Subs
T.Howard
T Hibbert or new player
J. Bidwell
P. Neville or new player
J. Lundstram
H. Hope
A. Vellios

Might get in a player or two before this game. Thats not a bad second team, good season ahead me feels. COYB IMWT TOP4.

Anyone else think Nigel DeJong would be a good buy? 27 years old and I think his contract is coming to an end maybe city would be willing to sell because we sold them jack and he shouldn't cost to much as he fell down the pecking order. Although he would have to take a substantial wage cut. But could play in the same position Neville did against the mancs.

Cornel Sanders {Ed025's Note - good player cornel...i would love him here..

Believable1 Unbelievable3

Why would he leave City to come here though? {Ed025's Note - hes not getting a look in at city....and players want to play!..

Agree0 Disagree0

Do you think he's willing to drop his wages, reputation and attitude? If no to any of them, he won't arrive. {Ed025's Note - i dont think he will come...but he is a very good player, who would enhance most teams..

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd love to see him at Everton, a top player and I think he would suit us well, just think wages would be an issue, but stranger things have happened.

Mirallas says he swerved other top EPL and European clubs to come to everton because he thinks it's important to get playing time. That's exactly the attitude a lot of players need and exactly the attitude of an everton player. I think the lad will fit in great at our fantastic peoples club.

On the United page today we had a visit from a certain "Keith EFC." and may I just say what a brilliant post it was.

Every area was well thought and in all fairness I completely agree with what you said.

I would take Fellaini any day of the week, you said he's a little like a young Scholes in the ability he has but for me he's a young Viera and has the ability be as good if not better than Yaya Toure.

He'd be perfect for our style of play although the money you would ask for him would be far more than what we value him at. Personally I would say around £25 Million whereas I think Everton would want closer to £35 Million...

Anyway!

Good luck for the season, I think we're going to see a top 6 finish from you guys this year and possibly a very decent FA Cup run.

The Moon.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Thank you very much for this post, all the best for the upcoming season!
George the Blue

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for the compliment Moon. United are a bit like us fan wise. When we are in a bad position in injuries, etc, we always worry and fear the worst but long term the club always pull through. And that's mainly because of the manager. As much as I don't like Fergie because of him being a 'bad loser' in a way, he's an outstanding manager. And has pulled off some mind boggling cheap and fantastic signings.

Good luck Moon. United 2nd in the league after us. :D

Na jokes. I think you'll have it with RVP's goals.

Not really a rumour but a great time to be a blue.
When we sign someone new you are always excited and gives the club a boost but the signing of Morallas is different, this guy is special! seen him play a few times and watched all the clips and he could be the final piece of our jigsaw.
The other thing that sets this club apart is the bond between the players and the club, did anyone else see Darren Gibson singing "if you know ya history" after the game, it gave me goosebumps :))

Season prediction: Current window, sign Niang & 1 midfielder. Jan window, Donovan on permanent, Cahill back for swansong. March 16, Cahill on as sub rises 12 feet to nod his usual goal against City to win game then departs for New York after a lap of honour. DM guides us to 6 th place, just missing out in one of the most competitive chases for Champs League ever. But, he lifts his first trophy. The crystal ball doesn't specify if it's the carling cup or the fa cup.

Does anybody agree with me? Rooney had an air of sadness about him, almost as though he was really missing us. It's all well and good earning so much money that you don't need - but maybe just maybe he is becoming home sick, realising that money cannot buy family.
He's won his trophies; made his money - I've got a sneaking feeling he would like to know how to get back to the fold

So the dust has settled and im still grinning from ear to ear from last nights performance, not only was it a great victory, but we outplayed a classy man utd side, we didnt just sneak a win, we dominated and created 5-6 clear goal scoring opportunites. Our players simply wanted it more than united, they gave everything, even in the 90th minute we were still hunting their players in packs. Thats the difference between our great club and some other clubs, you could see the passion, hunger and drive last night, combined with fantastic support, everyone was prepared to put their bodies on the line.

But as usual the media and pundits havnt given us a just rewards, even before the game all the attention was on Van Persie and what he'd do, now that the game is over its all about what he didnt do!! I really wish they'd just accept that Moyes tatics were spot on last night, he thought old whisky nose a taticall lesson. We pressed high up the pitch, and no united player got time on the ball in our half, we attacked quickly and with purpose, Felli had no pockets at the end of the game cause they were all full of United defenders! but we also played sensational football at times, one touch and very pleasing on the eye.

Then today Old Whiskey nose and Vidic slam our style of play, talk about sour grapes, they simply cant accept that they were out thought, out foxed and out played!

I know its only one game, but im so excited now for the season, i can feel something special just around the corner, cant wait for saturday, bring on villa, i sense that we fear absolutely nobody at the moment and thats how it should be!!

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Ferguson, Wenger, etc. - they don't like it up 'em, Captain Mainwaring. Their lack of graciousness in defeat is telling. Additionally, Gary Neville's analysis on Sky is (surprisingly to many) very honest and IMHO on the button. He praised Everton's performance and commented on how ManUtd's players - although technically gifted - don't have the same ability to close out games and get wins like the old ones. If only SAF was as honest - but that'd probably admit failure in his blinkered eyes! Just hope David Moyes can resist any approach to succeed him. We might be on the brink of something extraordinary at EFC given our resources.

As Moyse said, Felly should be used in different roles so we dont become predictable. Last night, he was on fire, but we need to come up with different ways to play different games. Sour grapes from Sir Alex....a lack of grace in his comments on the Blues.....but trying to look at things from a neutral angle, still feel we need to press on after scoring....when you sit back you always invite danger...crowded box, deflection and all the good work undone. Feel if we had put on Naismith five minutes after scoring, it would have given us an outlet, fresh legs and occupied their defence more.......while I agree that everyone has to work their socks off.....I think its unrealistic to beleive that we can play the same way over 38 games..if we want to get the best out of Jelavic, its important that he doesnt become knackered chasing down everything, and losing his sharpness where it counts...in the box. Think Mirallas will bring something different and exciting to our game plan options.....hope one or two more recruits will come in to strengthen Moyse hand. I am sure Tim Cahill will have enjoyed the result last night.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

I fully agree. When Naismith first came on the first thing he did was chase down their goalkeeper and defenders. Moyes tactics aren't always the best, but with a small squad like ours, risks are always going to be taken. Plus with Mirallas we have the pace to perform counter attacks.

Let's not get too annoyed with what ferguson and his yes men are saying about us. He has always been very complimentary about us in the past, simply because we were never a real threat to them going into games. Where as now....

Simple state of affairs is this, we hurt them last season and he promised his supporters revenge last night. It never happened. Instead we went one better, now that really hurt him so he was the same with us as he has been with his close competitors in the past.

The thing is fellow toffees we are a better side now and he knows it. And reading between the lines even ferguson is in his own inimical way seeing it too.

I will give you all a fair warning today. This season is set to be a corker for us, so sit back and enjoy!

Team i would play for most games.

Howard
Hibbert Jagielka Distin Baines
Gibson Osman/Neville
Mirallas Fellaini Pienaar
Jelavic
I would possibly play Neville in the big games but hes 34 now and in his last year of his contract which i can see him going into coaching soon so i would get the looking for the future and i think Osman and Hibbert have still got a few years left. In big games we could play Naismith aswell because of his work rate and he will track back and cover alot of ground. A few weeks ago i was putting Heitinga in these teams but the way Distin and Jags was yesterday they was brilliant. I would be looking to try Coleman at right back in a few of the games against the relegation bound teams to see if he is good there. If not i would be looking for a a younger right back for when Hibbert packs in.

just like to pass comment on the long ball issue, a long ball is just punted up the pitch in the vain hope a big man well manage to get his head on it knock it down and some one will pick up the second ball.that is not what happened last night, that was precision passing to a highly skilled player who controlled the ball with his chest more than any player i have ever seen in one game.the only reason ferguson is saying it was long ball is to deflect the fact that last night his highly paid prima donnas were out thought out fought and out played by a superior side on the night and out witted by a better manager. the future starts here fergie get used to it........grbefc {Ed025's Note - love it grb..

I feel a real sense in Everton this season , I really think Europe is possible, just one more signing I don't rate niang don't care if sign him or with maybe 4 mil left jordan Rhodes I'd try or even if we are cheeky sell big Vic and bring in Santaa Cruz or Fletcher

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Jordan Rhodes is a huge risk. Scoring 50 goals in League 1 is completely different from the Premier League. I think it's possibly worth a punt if you have the money, but, like us, we can't afford to take big risks like that. Fletcher, on the other hand, is too expensive. Wolves rejected £12m from Sunderland. Besides, as I keep saying, we have Vellios and Anichebe to fill in. Albeit you can't expect them to score 20 goals a season, but Vellios is capable of scoring say 4 or 5 goals in a 6-9 game run.

Hiya Fellow Blues...what a great start last night just what we all wanted & needed. Just goes to show that the only thing missing in our play over the last few years, especially against the so-called Big Clubs,is SELF BELIEF ! Fellaini was unplayable and had a snorter of a game, probably his best yet and I thought Jags was outstanding & un-passable,a colossus along with Distin. But the main thing for me is we should all applaud Leighton Baines for so far staying loyal to Everton FC in the face of much hyped temptation. Moyes has always maintained that if he could keep his main players and add 1 or 2 more, then he felt we could mount a serious challenge for honours. Man Utd will not be the main force this season and could actually be coming to the end of their hugely successful reign as the top team in England.....it happens....then someone else builds a successful team ! Would just like to say to the people who were knocking Jagielka last few months he more than won his place back last night, Heitinga now back to 3rd choice for me, just hope he doesn't start speaking rubbish again and trying to push a move elsewhere like he has done in the past!
Like the way Moyes kept to the shape we had at the end of the season with Fellaini up top with Jelavic, we lok really dangerous with Baines, Pienaar, Osman playing in and around Felliani and Jelavic.
We can't get carried away though, it's one game, we can judge if we have had a good start after 10 games!
Brilliant last night, it's night's like last night that make all the annoying moments being a blue and money we spend to watch them and buy our shirts well worth it!!!

Ed am I missing something? Did we not totally deserve last night? Listening to their Ice age manager and the pathetic English press, we just 'lumped' the ball to Fellaini. Pathetic! We created some excellent chances and in my opinion, never looked like drawing let alone losing.

Big Nev {Ed051's Note - The paper, fa, tv. Will not have a bad word said. Fact we played nice one touch football, the stats at the end were all us, they were beaten end of.

From a Man United fan on their page (I posted on their page recapping the match and giving them lots of hope - but this guy is deluded): ''Everton are terrible to watch. They are everything that is bad in the game. A long punt up to a target man. (Why do people keep saying Fellani played midfield - he played as a striker) They completely shut up shop after the goal - they had no interest whatsover in trying to play football. Terrible to watch, but they were very diciplined, they had their homework done on us and deserved to win the game.''

OK, we play long balls to Felli - mainly goals kicks - but what about the one touch football between Baines, Pienaar, Neville, Gibson, Hibbert, Felli? I've never seen us play as good one touch football in my lifetime (albeit I'm only 15 - but I've been watching from around '03 and I've supported us for 15 years) - we did what United did... but better: passing the ball around the midfield, apart from we did quicker, snappier passes when needed and that's how we got Baines and Hibbo crossing the balls in. United passed it around their midfield and back 4 and the occasional 1-2 got them a slight goalscoring chance. But to say we play long-ball 24/7 is really, really unfair. We mixed our game up in the end and played better than them - end of!

Keith EFC. {Ed051's Note - We don't play long ball, this fan is just copying fergies comments. Take no notice. Next time there keeper takes a kick up field tell them they are playing long ball

I'm absolutely loving this massive change of outlook compared to 12 months ago. This time last year everyone was moaning that we hadn't bought anyone in and had no forwards. Couple that with most people calling for Moyes' and Bill's heads and it truly was depressing to be a Blue.
Fast forward to present day and we've had a great transfer window so far with hopefully more to come in and everyone's now saying we don't need any more forwards.
Also, the general concencus with Moyes and Bill is that they can do no wrong and are running the club brilliantly given our financial status. Brilliant! IMWT. In Bill I trust.

Moyes wants another cm especially with Felliani playing behind jelavic and Neville can't do it week in week out. It's apparently one of two Charlie Adams or Tom huddlestone who can also cover cb. Which would we prefer both can get us passing the ball a lot more. Gibson still not totally proven as a bit slow and teams can get round him and also misses a few games as well. Lastly a rb with the same threat as Haines and we would be serious contenders for top four.

Believable0 Unbelievable5

Darren Gibson has brought stability to the holding mid field, rarely misplaces a pass and was outstanding once again last night against very good attacking players.
Have you overlooked we haven't been beaten in the PL with him playing. {Ed051's Note -

Gibson is great, does the simple things well, you need mid fielders like him to be successful! I disagree that we need another CM, Felli will switch positions when it suits him, my guess is that he will be playing much deeper most of the time with Naismith and Mirallas in the hole

Will be interesting to see which games Moyes chooses to play Fellaini behind the striker. Worked a treat last night he was truly unstoppable but we can play like that against all of the teams - especially with our creative midfielder Osman, Pienaar, Naismith and Mirallas. Using Fellaini as a target man gives us a great option if were being starved of the ball, means we can create chances with a long ball but I hope that's not all we see this season. Although last night we did pass the ball very well at times I really think we have the players to play some nice flowing football similar to the end of last season but with quicker players!

If we can master playing both styles and use them at appropriate times and games we are going to be a serious force. Although last night showed what we're capable of, it won't come easy and it is still very early in the season. Here's to even more improvements and a great season ahead. Lets get my prediction on record!

Everton 3 - 0 Aston Villa on the weekend (Jelavic, Osman, Baines pen).

We'll finish 6th and will be Runners Up in the FA Cup. Jelavic top scoring with 20. COYB

Bainsey linking with Pienaar down

How wrong they were, we are now a
threat all across the park, and
Pienaars free role across the middle
will cause opposition all sorts of
problems.

I believe with the range of talent we
have in Ozzie, Naismith, Mirallas all added
to the mix teams will have difficulty
defending against us.

With solid defence and holding mids
that allow the aforementioned to

I'm not going to go on about last night's performance. All I can say is that I haven't seen us play that good for 3 or 4 years. And I even think Hibbert is far better than we give him credit for. The performance yesterday was a performance which words cannot describe - I'm just gob smacked at how we played. To see players like Distin unable to stand up after the game because of the effort almost makes me cry with laughter and proudness of our boys. Although the Daily Mirror was harsh. Players like Howard got 6, Baines also. Highest was Felli on 9. Even he deserved more.

Anyway, I came to say that if the Board want to prove this is our season then the next job is to reject offers of any price for Felli. I don't normally say things like I'm going to, but he is one player I deem irreplaceable. I thought he wouldn't have all his heart in it after he said if an offer from a CL club comes in then he'll go, although he said he was happy. But he played like he loved the club so much, and I believe every offer has to be turned down. I mean it's not like we are in danger of losing him, because he has 4 and a bit years of his contract remaining.

Although I feel European football is a must this season. If we don't qualify this season then I fear he, and maybe the likes of Jela could leave.

Enough of me putting a possible downer on the team anyway. I just think he is a player who MUST, and I mean MUST, be kept at all costs.

Ed do you also think the signing of Mirallas will keep him here longer too?

Mike {Ed025's Note - i think we are doing ok as we are mike, we have what a lot of teams are lacking..stability...i say..if it aint broke, dont fix it mate..

Agree0 Disagree0

You off your head mike!

Get rid of him if he don't bring us sixth and a cup, wtf!

Theres still a long way to go against some good clubs, although sixth or above is a reachable achievement based on what we've done over past years, winning a cup is always a possibility! But never a guarantee no matter what your team, anyone can be beaten on the day!

But get rid of Moyes, get real! Who you going to bring in who knows the club and the way it's run, knows the players and what there about, understands he will have little if no money for transfers, and still give us the finishes we have year in year out!

Will this manager come in and give you your sixth and a cup, I don't think so! And if this manager as good as you might think he is when he comes in, fails! And fails in a big way, what then! All because Moyes didn't give sixth place and a cup in the trophy room! There's 19 other teams all hoping for a similar or even better end than that to the season, we're just one in the que, but I defo wouldn't move him on for failing sixth and a cup!

We're not going to sell him for less than we bought him and seeing as he's twice as good as when he bought he will cost twice as much!!

"We were the better football team, they had eight shots on target and De Gea did very well for us in that way,"

Seriously Fergie, you big baby. He must have missed all the lovely one-touch passing that could have given us an even more convincing win, had it not been for the post and the bar. He simply can't show respect in defeat.

Just been listening to Alan Brazil on Talksport. What a first class fool he really is.

He used the phrase ' Everton have no strength and depth'. For this reason he suggests we can't get top four.

I think you'll find Alan, we we're strong enough to out muscle the entire United side last night. They we're pushing and pulling us all over the place but we shook it off no problem. They even pulled Jelavics name and number off the back of his shirt!

One caller said we deserved the victory but we will not play that well again for the rest of the season! Why the hell won't we?! I think people don't want to admit we are a team to beat, so they are coming up with excuses to make themselves feel better. The Brazil comment got me the most tho. What a pudding.

So why not continue playing like after we score and put the game to bed, once we stopped attacking utd had us camped in our own half! But great win none the less! well done everton, great performance from the whole team, so hard working for each other and fellani again shown his real class, dont think many teams are going away from goodison with 3 points this season(if you shown same commitment as last night.

That's what Fergie gets for taking the piss. Valencia and Carrick in defence. Van Persie on the bench. You were always going to lose.

Ed, will we be playing in our white kit against Aston Villa? cause last year we played in our grey one? and what are your likley line ups lads? i think we'll be unchanged. cheers Dan1

DM may be forced to make a few changes distin looked pretty bad jelly, felly, osman and peanuts were knackered so he may freshen things up in the midfield for once I dont think this will be to much of an issue. If we do need to make changes would not mind seeing:
howard
hibbert jags hetinga baines
naismith gibson mirallas felli peanuts

Felliani the man is class. How many holding midfielders play like him can play upfront like him. He embodies everything about the squad. Willing to play anywhere and put in a shift. All the team were awesome last night. Excited about this season. We on the up and this is a special squad on the verge of greatness. Coyb imwt paul c

If an rs fan comes on here to say something positive about our club there is no need to reply by slagging him off. BSM

Agree0 Disagree0

I fully agree. I know a lot of Liverpool fans and some are so deluded it's unbelievable, however I know a fair few who are just normal fans and actually don't mind us.

And especially when one comes on OUR site to congratulate us, etc, replying like that is out of order.

Plus it didn't make much sense what you said.

I'm not starting anything between us Blues, especially after the weekend we've had (out of this world), but there is a time to have a go Liverpool fan (when they chat BS and talk bad about our team) and there is a time to be civilised (like that Liverpool fan was being).

Greg O'Keefe on twitter reporting Niang impressed at Finch Farm, also seen a few pics of him in San Carlo with his people, had a few pics with kid fans of the blues. Hope we impressed him an he impressed Davey. Greg OK also sayin it'll be about 5m and it's ther if Moyesey give the all clear. We never spend on players in last 3 years so if he does buy him we should have a player on our hands. Felli at 15m at age 19 and a little known is a perfect template for this deal. At least doubled felli's value since and with the world watching last night its great he showed loyalty with the 5 yr deal he signed. What a man, I want curly hair too. Great feelin last night COYB

Fantastic result from the lads tonight, Fellaini was MOTM but Jags, Distin and Hibbert were also outstanding and the team were great! Only criticism was that we sat back towards the end when we should've tried to at least push for the second goal. Going negative and sitting back with 20 minutes left was risky. Still, fantastic start and long may it continue!

If the rippers Andy Carrol spends his 40k a week on pitched in for a striker, Pool could put in a performance half as decent as yours.

Excellent work but you'll never turn me from being a Pool fan.

Pool fan here with mad love.

My block on lfcrumours likely carries over here but anyways...

There's nothing but good things to say about the Toffees tonight. I'm more happy you played very well than I am too see the Mancs lose.

I've predicted that Manu and Chavski won't make top four. Just a thought but the decline's been aparent for years.

City look to be likely PL champs but regardless they'll do well.

My thought are top 4 will be a contest between: you, newcastle, spurs, arsenal, pool city and fulham. Then again, I'm blinded by hate for Man Utd and chavsea.

Hi Lads,

I'm in America at the moment and I only just got back from Universal Studios (Orlando) so I missed the game (it was a 3pm kick-off over here). I was nervous about the game but I was grinning from ear to ear when my son came to me just after we got back to the villa and said we'd won 1-0, but not only just winning 1-0, but destroying United and by the sound of it, we could of won 4-0 with the amount of chances. Wish I could of gone it sounds like a magical night at Goodison. Something that's concerning me is that on the Official Everton twitter account it said that Naismith came on 'for the injured Jelavic'. Can someone shed some light on this for me? Was it a bad injury or just a slight knock? Mind you, Mirallas isn't a bad replacement is he? :)
I've checked the Fantasy League and I think I'm about 35th and we have about 60 odd teams registered. For any other blue wishing to enter the league the code is 427052-112577 on fantasy.premierleague.com. You may be slightly behind of you haven't made a team yet though.

Anyway, the futures looking bright for Everton now, I genuinely think we'll get a trophy or Europe this season.

So proud to be a blue!
Don't think we have to make much changes now as we have the strongest team we have had in years one of the most under-rated player in the everton squad is Osman and tbh Phil Neville keeps our midfield nice and tidy when playing with Gibson!

Goalkeepers- Howard, Mucha.

Defenders- Hibbert, Neville, Heitinga, Distin, Jagielka, Duffy, Baines.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Would rather have seen Naismith playing on the right instead of Ossie to be honest!

United fan here just congratulating you guys on a terrific win. Completely deserved it, I only have complaints about my own team. Man, Fellaini was an animal wasn't he? Unfortunately for us nobody could deal with him. Anyway, glad that United don't have to visit Goodison at a crucial point in the season like last year. Good luck with the rest of the season!
