Would have liked a CB, but look at the positives. Kept all our best players, and Utd have to carry on paying Clever to watch all there matches for the rest of the season. Oh and Swans happy too.

We can never pretend to know what RM and his staff know about players, those who want to be at Everton, those who fit the system, and those that fit the budget. If a solid (but not spectacular) Shawcross could be had a a certain price, then it would be a good investment. We do not need oft injured players, team hopping mercenaries, or warm bodies. If you cannot find someone that is better than what you have, then don't buy a player just for the sake of "doing something".

Now, regarding Jags and Distin: How much of the CB play is related to age (hard to see such a fall off in production and skill in 4 months, with Distin getting the whole of the summer months off), and how much is related to coaching, planning, and execution of a defense.

Reading other posts, it sounds like Barry and Besic can drop back, Stones is ready, and perhaps one of the young players is ready to contribute.

Offensively: 7 goals in 3 games, not too shabby, with 3 goals against a Chelsea team playing defensive football to protect a lead.

Oveido will be back soon, Lukaku seems to be reaching full readiness, as is Mirallas. Atsu is on board, and Barkley will be back in less than 2 months.

Money is being saved, be it for new Grounds, a fleet of Bentleys, or the January transfer period.

Really Tony? Because we got our business done early? Business that has included smashing our transfer record. Also not one mention of any late bids for our star players. If I'm honest I think it goes down as one of the best deadline days ever!

Im pretty cool with every players we have signed.BUT. Really big oversight not predicting our centre half situation. Alcaraz was a mistake no where near the standard.Stones made a FAIR amount of mistakes in the pre season. I think he needs some time to mature he will be great.Even if Jagz and Distan gel again we can't afford an injury.You can't make that level of mistake after making huge investments in the squad.I pray we have secretly signed a centre half.

Hi Guys,

First time I have posted since the whole 'registering' non-sense! :)

So Tom Cleverly. Worst player in the history of the game? Well I can see that many people are stingingly critical of him. However, some of these are the same people that said Gibbo was the worst Utd. player of all time, Barry was Mr. Sideways and was rubbish, wanted to literally give Coleman away after 1 or 2 mistakes in his early days at full back (even offering to drive him personally to another club), slated Naisy for 2yrs even though he had just come back from a serious injury, hardly played, said McCarthy was rubbish and not worth 13m, wrote Eto'o off as a pensioner and goldigger before he had kicked a ball etc. etc.

Once again thank God people who know football are selecting players for our great club!! Otherwise we would be in serious trouble. I must admit this signing does not fill me with excitement (if it even happens), however RM has worked with the player before and clearly knows him better than any of us, so let's stop with all the drama. If the price is right and it suits Everton and RM then who the heck are we to say otherwise?

Also lot being said on here about Jags' poor form. but to say that ''he can't play in RM's system'' is quite simply rubbish as he played in it for most of last season and we had the 3rd or 4th best defence in the league ffs! The truth is that he has been poor since his injury at the end of last season, sometimes that happens after an injury just look at Torres! Jags may or may not improve and yes I would hope that Stones is introduced before too long but give Jags a bit of respect please, he is still our captain and deserves a bit more loyalty. If he does get his form back then he will be replaced before too long but he deserves better support from us during this difficult time!

I have the greatest respect for RM, but we need a strong c/b, plus a second choice keeper who can at least catch a ball, as things stand looks like what we will get is a midfield player who, is, not very quick, not very strong, cannot pass, or head, has a poor first touch, and could not find space in the middle of the outback, BUT HE ONCE HAD A FEW GOOD GAMES FOR WIGAN,

Spot on mate.I just don't see the point in this deal we are overloaded in the midfield department . Its plain as the nose on my face what areas we need to be strengthening.

ssn just reporting that efc officials have stated no deal for this waste of space so we can all relax now. Will not be happy if we do not reinforce our central defence within next hour. It is obvious where we are struggling, RM should be addressing this as a matter of importance. Come on Bobby, sort it out lad

Alan Irwin now on ssn saying there will be no deal for cleverley. Thank god.Also saying that's it with everton no deals in or out.Apart from Duffy that is.Disappointed we haven't tried to get a centre back in.

Every player we've been linked with today apart from cleverly has been ruled out according to alan irwins 'sources' I got the impression a couple of days ago martinez was finished with this window. If we do end up with cleverly I think it will be more out of sentiment on bobbys part because on the grand scale of things I don't see where he fits in. We really needed a cb for me not another midfielder.

Got in from work tonight and just thought I would tune in to ssn to check out their transfer deadline day coverage. can't help to have noticed that regardless of whether activity is expected or not, in the 2 hours I have been watching Everton have not even featured. Should I be surprised?

Just home from work and looking at transfers, I was hoping for some interest in a good centre half. It looks like all the deals are being done around us. This is a good test for RM, can he pull something out of the bag later tonight. I still believe he is the best man for the job and even if he can't bring in another CH he will get the ones we do have playing up to their best.

On a personal level and not what I heard just my opinion why is Toby Alderweld joining Southampton.
I never say that's one that slipped through the net because I think people in football know way more than me, however in this case, WTF. He is better than what we have, available wanting to come to England. Wow

Completely agree would have loved to see him come to us today.

If we can sign, welbeck on loan with veiw of permanent, Holtby with the same clause, and a GOOD 23 to 28 year old defender (albiet not many out there) on a perm. then I *might* be happy. Otherwise, Falcao wouldn't be so bad I guess.
