Ive just listened to bobby martinez on 5 live, have to say the man ooozes class, he is so positive and passionate about footy, and I know its early days but I havn't been this excited and optimistic about the blues for years, and what's impressed me most so far is he's not afraid to make changes, whether that means dropping someone, or like at west ham changing it at half time either way its nice to have a manager who is positive and goes for a win, long may it continue.

I'd just like to wish Jo Thompson a speedy recovery from Hodgeson Disease. The lads only 24, it's really hit home to me as that's my age. Really makes you think what's important in life. I'd like to think all blues and reds will wish the lad all the best and hope to see him on the pitch again soon.

Everton Al. {Ed025's Note - well said al..

Here's a thought we where great at finishing the season with moyes. and still have most of the same team.

But Bobby always finished well with Wigan (just not well enough last season) If he can Champions league here we come.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think I just about understand that. {Ed025's Note - it took me a couple of looks as well keith.. :)

Long shot but you never know Southey, hope we strengthen in Jan to keep our run going

Degsybluenose

Agree0 Disagree0

Yea, I agree with Degsy. We need to stregthen in Jan as I feel that was the turning point last season. After January we just looked deflated and weren't playing our usual fluent football that could have got us into the Champions League. Not only do new signings give fans a boost but they also give a boost to the players as well because they create competition for places. Personally in Jan, I'd be looking to bring in a CB, CM and a ST.

BitterBlue

Agree0 Disagree0

Coincidence that Moyes knew he was going. If he had strengthened the team then a top 4 was a definite possibility but would have made it a lot more difficult to leave and keep Felli .

Agree0 Disagree0

For me I think Martins Indi, M'Vila and Honda. I know the Honda think is dead in the water but it would be a nice dream. Would be good strength for january.

Not a rumor, just wondering if anyone knows why we let Shkodran Mustafi go a few years back? I was always a fan of his and never quite understood why we didn't keep him on. I remember the club said something about him not improving as much as they would have liked, but even so, they could have kept him on a bit longer to give him a chance. He has been one of the best defenders in Serie A this year and WhoScored has just put him in their European Team of the Month, would have been nice if we still had him as a potential heir to Distin.

Eric dier would of been a cracking talent to keep I know he was only on loan for experience but we should of went in for him, these things happen mate, a website saying that doesn't mean he will be missed, he could if had a bad attitude or something, don't want to bring up united but look at paul pogba and ravel morrison they had attitudes (well at least ravel did) so these things happen

Mike-Ox Long

Agree0 Disagree0

Dier would have been good, yeah. Considering we got him on loan twice, I have no doubt he would have been completely up for a permanent move, but hey ho, what can you do. And I'm not saying he is missed, just saying I'd have quite liked it if we gave him a bit of a chance and maybe he'd be the player he is now, for us. It is possible he had a bad attitude, though nothing ever gave me that impression. And Pogba definitely had (still has) an attitude, but many still think ferguson's decision to get rid of him for this was wrong, as they've genuinely lost one of the worlds best defensive mids, and now they're stuck with Felli.

finally signed up and just posting to pose a question for everyone, if you could have one player past or present come back to everton in their prime who would it be? for me it would have to be kevin sheedy

Mike-Ox Long {Ed025's Note - big bob latchford for me mike, he would be like lukaku, but minus the dreads,, :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Got to be Big Nev. In his prime he was the best keeper I have ever seen.
With a keeper like Nev you can expect an extra 12 points over the season.

Toffee ace

Agree0 Disagree0

DIXIE,

Strong, two great feet, quick great in the air, knew where the goal was and a pure winner.

and even babe ruth wanted to meet him

Scousedownsouth {Ed025's Note - i never seen dixie SDS, so cant compare him mate..

Agree0 Disagree0

Degsypulford again. Tricky Trevor Steven for me. His stats are truly amazing. Won 3rd div with Burnley before signing for us and winning 2 titles, then to Marseille where he won the French title and finally to Rangers where he won 7 titles. That is a total of 10 titles in his career with 4 different clubs. Add to that 9 cups and 4 charity shields.
Total = 23 trophies! If anyone can come up with better career stats than that, I will bow my head. I will bet there are not many Blues who realised this one? Unsung hero in my book.
Degsypulford

Agree0 Disagree0

The Scottish Dynamite . Bobby Collins . what a human dynamo .just showed height don't matter when the ball in on the deck . add his running mate Tommy Ring . what a partnership .

Agree0 Disagree0

If we are going for players we have actually seen, I would say Ratters at Cb, and the Worst Ratters at Lb

Scousedownsouth

Agree0 Disagree0

Steven for me too I used to love watching Stevens and Steven down the right side, for me an even better combo than Baines and Peanuts.

SA90

Agree0 Disagree0

Got to be Bally for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

I've not been around many years so I can only judge what I've seen. For me it would have to be Arteta. He'd be the best midfielder in the Prem now if he was in his prime…

Has to be the Golden Vision, but I would like him with Roy Vernon. What a lethal partnership. It's so hard to choose. Alan Ball and Tony Kaye contenders

Agree0 Disagree0

Terry Darracott.

Agree0 Disagree0

One player? Got to be nev. we won the league and our keeper got player of the year from football writers. The man never dived if he knew he was beaten. Honourable mentions Trevor Steven, baines and Rooney

Albo

Agree0 Disagree0

Good question, there is a lot to choose from, I never seen any of the guys from the sixties actually play, the likes of Ball, Kendall etc. Then there were some fantastic players in the 80's, Sheedy, Stevens Southall, Sharpy etc. But for me, if I had to choose a player to come back in his prime (and he wasn't even at Everton when he was in his prime) it would have to be Andrei Kanchelskis. Fantastic player.

My team against Tottenham:

Howard
Coleman
Baines
Jags
Distin
McCarthy
Barry
Pienaar
Mirallas
Osman
Lukaku

I will get a lot of stick for not uncluding Barkley, but I just don't think this fixture is right for him. He has been fantastic this season and I believe he will be a top-top player, but we need someone with experience to play in that role, somebody with tactical awareness and to that can make the right choices. We need to avoid giving the ball away as much as we can because it will be hard to win the ball back against Tottenham and I supsect that they will aim to kill off our momentum, and slow the game down.

howard
coleman, jagielka, distin, baines
mirallas, barry, mccarthy, pienaar
barkley
lukaku

for me mate barkley is made for this game, if osman gets dispossessed once we will be in trouble, he will not run back nor does he have the pace to do so, barkleys aggression and drive is perfect against spurs, his pace and power will be useful against paulinho and vertonghen because again paulinho or whoever is in that holding midfield role will keep osman quiet very easily, osman was also bad last season away, he provided no cover for baines against walker and even though pienaar is back, having that player with enough energy and drive like barkley will be useful both offensive and defensive, we should bring osman on last 15 minutes and hope for the best

Mike-Ox Long

Agree0 Disagree0

Howard
coleman, jags, distin, baines
deulofeu, barry, mccarthy, pienaar
mirallas
lukaku

stop there pace with pace.

scousedownsouth {Ed025's Note - i would not start with del boy, he is a luxury player for me mate, and gives the ball away too easily, hes great as an impact sub, and is very much learning his trade, but not as a starter yet for me..

Agree0 Disagree0

OP's the team I think Martinez will select and a Very Good one at that. I'd be more than happy if that's the team we field. Nothing wrong with Leon Osman either, think he's a very good player. Joe 1878

I like the polls on this, but I just couldn't answer the latest one. Lukaku has done fantastic scoring 5 goals in 5 games but McCarthy and Barry have both been excellant for us. I just couldn't decide. Maybe Barry's tactical awareness and experience may just edge it.

Off Everton for a minute Blues and strictly for the gamers we have on the site.

PS4 or Xbox 1 guys, me personally am going for PS4, well for my boy mainly lol.

Our Ed - forget Atari's mate, no one plays them anymore

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Playstation all the way for me, since the first one years ago. And the new one will be for my lad too, but I like a game now and again, you can't get me off it at times :)

Has to be PS4 for me. Xbox has taken a step backwards with their new design.

Hey guys a question for you all, with Barry on loan but his contact expiring in summer we may have the opportunity to sign him properly. Who would sign him?
Imo he's been a good servant to the club so far and his experience is and would be great, but I would prefer to reserve my opinion until after January. {Ed025's Note - its a no brainer kiwi, if his wage demands are reasonable, get him on a 4yr deal asap..

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Nov 2013 08:15:55
Get him the minute the transfer window opens mate, otherwise we will lose him to someone because 90% of the prem clubs will be after the guy, he is seriously a class act {Ed025's Note - i agree degsy..

Agree0 Disagree0

4yrs? We'd have to wheel him on to the pitch! I would offer him a 2yr deal and hope that we rarely have to play him in his final year. He has a short term shelf life at his age and we would need to look at replacing him fairly soon

Pod

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Nov 2013 09:29:22
I don't agree Pod mate, he is in top shape and its not as if he is bombing up and down the wing every match, I think that could be the difference between him signing and not signing, a 2 or 4 year deal, give him 4 years and let's get him on board.

Agree0 Disagree0

He won't want to be moving clubs every season - martinez showed faith in him and he's built things around him - he aso says he feels part of the everton family straight away and feels at home - not like at City - so I imagine he wil want to stay - not sell himself around for a few extra quid - he will already be ok for money

Agree0 Disagree0

3 year pay-as-you-play deal, on good money

Agree0 Disagree0

A "pay as you play deal", don't be daft. A normal 2 year contract would be ideal. After the first year we could offer him an extension. a 3 year contract would also be good. A 4 year deal, seems a bit long for a player of his age though. But, has shown so far that he could be a vital player for us. A hell of a signing!

barry is a must get, guy has been class for us and is great for our youngsters to learn from, top man, top player and top professional

Mike-Ox Long

Agree0 Disagree0

Like Roberto has said his game has never been about pace. Its all about positioning, for that reason I can still see him playing for us for another 3 seasons after this easy
