squad report for the season

goalkeepers:

howard-8-been very very good, couple of muck ups but certainly an improvement on last season.

joel-5.5-some really bad mistakes and doesn't look the part.

full backs:

coleman-9-i love him, best right back in the league easily, few hiccups defensively but still improving, great season for him.

hibbert-6-barely played but can still do a job.

baines-6.5-been disappointed with him, not at his best but not as bad as people make out.

oviedo-7.5-hearts were pounding when baines was injured, this boy stepped up and did brilliantly, can't wait to have him back, great player and evertonian, love him.

garbutt-6-one sub game, may see him next season.

centre backs:

jagielka-6.5-solid but few mistakes and can't play football.

distin-9-marks everyone out the game and is just so good, love big syl, no one has semi skinned him yet! (poor I know).

stones-8-great footballer and good defender and only 19 what a talent.

alcaraz-7-very unfairly treated IMO, two bad games, yes he hasn't played often but had to play one game injured alongside someone he has never played with and an own goal, been solid in the rest and is a class footballer, like stones' older brother.

wingers:

mirallas-7.5-decent season from him, contributed to 16 goals and is exciting, well done kev.

pienaar-5.5-poor, to the extreme, I know he's been injured but when he has played he has been awful.

deulofeu-6.5-inconsistent and frustrating, very talented though.

mcgeady-6.5-didnt want him, good buy though, degsy said he was poor early on, he wasnt fit! he didn't have that burst of pace he has now, exciting, works hard and isn't scared of anyone, well done aiden.

gueye-6-barely played, get rid.

midfielders:

barry-9.5-personal pots, does everything correctly and him and mccarthy are wonderful, must never split up!, hope we sign him, what a player.

mccarthy-9.5-if he added goals to his game then he would be pots, he is my young pots though, what a player, so ferocious in any game and drives us on.

barkley-6-about 2 good games, rest he has had stinkers, very overrated, hope to see him improve next season otherwise, we have the new rodwell! (but worth more so win win :).

osman-6-i really don't like him but recently he has stepped up, meh.

gibson-6-get him back!.

stikers:

lukaku-6.5-yes he scored goals but is lazy and has a touch as heavy as the hulk, don't buy him

kone-6-missed him, will come good next season

traore-6-unfairly criticized, 'he didn't win a header', its not his game! he likes the ball at his feet and was injured when he played (first time in 3 months ffs!)

naismith-7.5-revelation, never backs out of a header, works hard and changes games, well done nessi.

overall, most of them have been good, some, not so much but oh well, on to next season!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Looks like you havnt watched an everton game this season mate

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - the only ones i would disagree with are jags..8 for me, baines...8, ossie..7.5,and barkley..7.....the rest are about right for me, and maybe 8.5 for naisy..

I will give a report on swans report. B minus.

A long time since we have had competition for places and we have a manager with a horses for courses attitude to team selection.

Not one player is lower than 7 out of 10 for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Your mad mate you give Hibbert 6 an hr has hardly played this season an you give a rock of an England defender like jags 6.5 just because he not that good on the ball hr is a centre defender do you care if hr is good on the ball as long as he does his job an (gets the tackles in)

Agree0 Disagree0

Mirallas?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i think 7.5 was very generous, he had a few good games, but by and large never performed on a consistent level, its all about opinions BOTN, that just happens to be mine mate..

01 May 2014 19:34:01
and he has cost us a few goals mate, he is one of the main reasons rom hasn't scored more, rock or not, you would give joel a 7? really?, I like jags I really do but he is a woeful player who we should sell while he has value

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i like him swan, solid and dependable, ok so he is not the most gifted player, but always gives 100%, and is not on the plane to rio because he is a bad player mate..

01 May 2014 19:41:11
when you are a team who plays from the back, you need players that are comfortable on the ball, we have 2 in alcaraz and stones, you need a brute who is strong and wins the ball, distin, who is an okay footballer, jags is a great defender but he offers nothing but smashing the ball 90 yards and hoping someone will head it, he craps himself under pressure and as suarez showed, he is losing his pace, jags is not a commanding centre back and very rarely offers us anything going forward, he is also easy to beat in the air and regularly his last ditch tackles have covered up poor movement and poor decisions on the ball, again, I really do like him but I don't think he is the type of defender we need

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - very harsh imo swan..

Swan I no people have there opinions but if you really think we should sell jags then you no nothin' about football mate he is going to the word cup as a Everton player and you think we should sell him one word bonkers

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2014 20:40:09
i know he is shakey and I want him to do well but he doesn't suit us anymore, saying that, I said last season (not on here) i'd sell coleman for 5m so meh maybe I will change my mind but at the moment I don't think he should be a regular, he ruins strikers imo by making them target men and doesn't give them space, if we got 8m for him i'd bag it instantly

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - £8m???..your having a giraffe swan, come on mate, you cant even get cleverley for that!..im glad your not in charge of our transfer deals mate..

01 May 2014 21:00:11
cleverley can kiss it and jags is 31 mate, he's not a prospect we can get 20m for, he's not even our best centre back and i'm glad too mate, if I was, osman, ross and pienaar would be gone instantly, thankfully I don't make the tough decisions, I get to sit here and have a good old fashioned, moan, which I like so believe me i'm chuffed I don't actually decide anything, cleverley though :), i'm sorry he's so bad I can't help but laugh, jeez I need to lay off the stella, night!

Agree0 Disagree0

You need to lay off somthin mate now your getting rid of our best young prospects in Ross

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2014 22:10:40
im getting rid of our best prospect? I didn't mention stones in my list of sales

Agree0 Disagree0

I saying this without really looking at the stats it is just something I observed after the Arsenal FA Cup game. I THINK, (im sure someone will prove me wrong) that the only times we have conceeded more than 2 goals Jags has not been in central defence. For all Stones' promise he has been in central defence every time we have conceeded more than 2 goals this season. Martinez is great but his style leaks goals, he is not a defensive coach. So I truly believe that we need Jags in there as he knows how to defend. It can't be a simple coincidence that we conceed more when he is not playing. I have bashed Stones on here before but he has changed my opinion of him in fairness, however he is still not positionally sound and for all his quality on the ball he has been at centre back whenever teams have ripped us apart and Jags has been missing. So please explain that one to me Swan

Agree0 Disagree0

Hey Swan, you really do see players like colours. ie black and white.good or bad. Osman has featured in this wonderful season in every game. You score him the same as Hibbert, Garbutt, Gibson, Kone, Traore and Gueye? You score him less than Deulofeu and McGeady? All of these players added together have featured less than Osman. Both Deulofeu and McGeady have had some terrible games out of the few they have played. I think you scored some of these from your memory of old games or something.

Agree0 Disagree0

Degs take no notice he is talking tripe mate he post some things and you think well that is a really good post an then he makes you think he doesn't have a clue by posting things like let's sell jags an sell Ross I got news for you swan as good a player this kid stones is soon as jags is fit stones will be bk on the bench an why would we sell Ross when teams like Chelsea see his class an chase his signature stones will be a starter but not till distan or jags call it a day. It says it all when swan is sayin he wants to play alcaraz over jags. Not for me never in a million years

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok I will point out that Jags played away at City when we lost 3-1. However all other matches where we conceded 3 or more he was absent and Stones or Alcaraz was in.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 May 2014 09:50:01
He was there for both liverpool games where we conceded 3 or more but anyway i'm sober lads! Oh don't worry this isn't an excuse, but i'm now more clear, yes I was talking tripe and no I don't want jags to go but I will continue about the rest, stones will be back on the bench yes, should he be? Nope and degsy I should of scored kone and that 5s because they haven't played, osman still gets a six, neat and tidy yes recently but the amount of times I've heard him getting cheered off (negatively) when he started is a lot, ross i'm still not convinced about, he's a playmaker that you know, can't do what they should, his final ball is poor, his awareness is awful, runs too much, tries too much, 3-1 down vs palace with a few minutes left and he tries 50 yard screamers with his left foot, which he keeps using to make himself look ambidextrous which he isnt, he doesn't look up and until late april he had no assists this season, that is atrocious, if these 50m rumours are true then i'd sell him instantly, will he ever be worth 50m (ability not because he's young), well the answer is no, some people think he can be better than gerrard and rooney, wake up, he is in the same brackett as zaha, wilshere, butland, shaw and ince, flavour of the month, but because he's an evertonian we buy into the hype, 50m, think about it, yes shakey I do talk rubbish sometimes (most times), I talk out of frustration of a result, or more recently i.e this post, out of frustration because, well, i'm frustrated I dunno, degsy I went into detail about osman a while back, kets go again, doesn't matter how much he's played, he hasn't won us games, doofy loofy has done it twice, mcgeady still isn't fit so i'm not judging him properly until next season, osman, when deployed in a 4-3-3 is good, when in our standard 4-2-3-1 he is poor, be it behind the striker or in front of the back four, he has no pace and no power, which ross has, he has a final ball, ross doesn't so we are really at a loss either way, I just really don't like osman, maybe that's getting in the way but tbh, it really doesn't matter, I will look back in two weeks and change my mind about the entire thing so meh

Agree0 Disagree0

Stones was at fault for all goals in the away derby regardless who else was playing he got his positioning so wrong that night, that's when I laid in to him. He has bounced back and looks far more assured at centre back than right back BUT Jags for me every time when fit and Distin is without any player coming anywhere near him the most under rated player in World football. How he has not been capped is just plain ridiculous. He is incredible, best 5 million our club has ever spent.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 May 2014 11:15:18
Martinez' fault at anfield, not stones or jagielka and distin should have caps I agree, he's better than kaboul, sakho and koscielny who aren't exactly kids so he should have well loads, shame, I would of put him in the toty, what a player and professional

Agree0 Disagree0

Swan it's good to see you seeing sense after what I presume was another night on the ale. We should not be looking to sell either Jags or Ross.
Svenny's correct in pointing out that Distin being overlooked at international level is nothing short of disgraceful. After the season he's just had, despite his age, France should be including him in their World Cup plans. But to have never received a single cap during his career is shameful.
I was always brought up to believe that a good French claret only matures with age.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me Jags.Englands centre half. say no more.
Stones. the kids going to be incredible. great vision and passing.
Osman. if he was a bad player he would of be chucked years ago and in this day and age its very rare a player stays a 1 club player. And before the Ossie haters start he hasn't stayed at Efc because no-one wants him. i'm sure given the chance a number of clubs in prem or abroad would of signed him given the chance.maybe not now at 32 but a few years ago he could have gone if he wanted to.

Nice comments from Jan mucha on his time at Everton. If ever someone might have had a bit of a gripe it's him, 3 years, barely even played, yet he still wouldn't trade the experience for anything. Yes he looked a bit like Voldamort and he wasn't exactly Banks, but good on him, always nice to read.

I heard Bojan on loan next season, he's out of contract at the end of that loan spell who knows?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Imagine if we could get him to within anywhere near of his potential

Agree0 Disagree0

If anyone can it'll be Bobby. Now that would be something to look forward to if it came off.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2014 21:17:34
Yes please. Bojan at goodison would be an exciting prospect. Make it happen martinez.

Do people remember me saying that we would need lots of new signings and it gave me concern that our squad needed a big over-hall and the bottom half of the table was filled with clubs who had most made mass changes? I also mentioned lack of goalscoring players? Well it seems RM is now saying we will need to sign 6 or 7 new players over the Summer. I am not sure if that includes replacements for Lukaku, Deulofeu and Barry should they not re-sign? The next couple of months are crucial as to who we actually sign. If you look at RM's signings to date:
Robles - Jury out.
Aiden McGeady - looked poor at first but has improved in recent games but jury still out.
Arouna Kone - injured and jury still out
Deulofeu - Still a kid and in my opinion jury still out
McCarthy - brilliant signing but lacks goals in his skills.
Lukaku - inconsistent but no-one has scored goals at EFC like him since the Yak. He is not ours and I doubt he will be.
Barry-superb but not ours yet. How many more seasons?
Traore- why did we sign him?
Alcaraz-jury still out. Always seems injured or inconsistent. Has shown glimpses.
That equates to 1 great permanent signing and 2 great loan signings who we may or may not sign again. The rest are so far just numbers.
Now add to this the 6 or 7 that RM is mentioning and we have big changes. Perhaps RM means the 6 or 7 including lukaku/barry/traore replacements? I really don't know. I believe RM has put together a great team for this season and I believe that is due mainly to lukaku/barry and mcCarthy.
Our center forward signing will be the key. We need 15 to 20 goals from whoever we sign. Interesting couple of months coming up.

so negative! you have to always downplay something!, mcgeady wasnt fit at first, in fact, still isnt!, barry will be ours hopefully and don't matter how many seasons, point is, he is boss, mccarthy is sensational, you mention goals again, you said last time we should play one holding midfielder and bench one of mccarry, well look what happened vs palace! not arsed if he scores or not, point is, he's everton, lighten up!

Agree0 Disagree0

I will try Swan. I do tend to go on negatives. probably because I am 57 and have been Blue through all the 60's 70's etc. The Mcarry bit you have a point on. But the goals and number of changes does really worry me. Can't help it. I THINK I know a bit about football and coaching. I see problems ahead. But I am enjoying this season for now. Remember we agreed 10 games in next season. RM will really have his work cut out to bring in 6 or 7 new signings (as well as replacing any outgoings) and then strengthen our squad at the same time. I personally think it is too many and like I said previously, teams that do it tend to suffer for a season. Look at the reds. Exactly the same squad (bar one or two) as the last 2 seasons. They finished below us those 2 and now? ps look at my comments re your scores.

Ben arfa linked not sure as he has the talent but seems to have attitude problems think he would benefit under martinez

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 May 2014 08:16:27
why does everyone benefit under martinez? any player linked suits our play style, from andy carroll to pappis cisse, doesn't work like that, ben arfa can stay where he is, injury prone, chubby, selfish and has one good game a season, not good enough

Agree0 Disagree0

Good player but moody, and don't we have enough wingers?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ben Arfa is a class act who has lost his way under a terrible manager. He is a remarkably skillful player whose day will come. This lad will not go off into obscurity, someone's gunna pick him up and then you'll see what he can do.
