Giroud looking like he's going to be out for a while with a suspected hamstring. Chalk him off the list then.

Really encouraged to see so many of our youngsters coming through a tough period and stand up to the challenge. Kenny, Holgate wouldn’t it be great if Garbutt could come in January and follow suit. Add Keane to that back four with Pickford it’s a back four for years to come. Davies looks like nothing fazes him and Lookman has all the makings of a exciting attacking player like Sterling. The kid who played at Stamford bridge looked promising too. Calvert-Lewin has probably impressed me the most someone else commented on him last week saying he reminded him of a young Graeme Sharp and can see it myself now.
Ross Barkley do you really want to leave with the future so bright?

So revival or not a revival we will see. Chelsea Saturday, then West Brom and Bournemouth. Currently we are on 25 points. At the end of the upcoming 3 games I would like to see us on 30 points. Given were we were 5 games ago, I would take that 30 points.

I'll be pretty cheesed off if we're not on 31 or 34 if we beat Chelsea.

When England U20s won the World Cup in the summer, questions were asked about how many of that squad would get first team football in the near future. Well, the 5 Everton boys are certainly doing well - Kenny and DCL are first team regulars whilst Lookman is now beginning to get more game time. Away from Goodison, Dowell is playing well at Forest and Connelly is now a regular at Ipswich. Add Pickford, Davies and Holgate to that group and Everton are certainly doing their bit for England.

Yes we should be proud of our youngsters. Just finished reading a report of yesterdays game on ESPN about the aftermath of Kenny's tackle and it read.
"The subsequent melee also showed a group of young players unafraid to back each other up, as Tom Davies, Mason Holgate and Calvert-Lewin all rushed to Kenny's aid. These same players often make a concerted effort to acknowledge the fans at the end of matches. Able to mix the rough with the smooth while appreciating the fortunate position they are in, the kids are alright at Everton. "

This 3 man panel thing to investigate diving is an absolute joke. We know from Niasse and his ban and other instances where charges have been rejected that the whole thing is the toss of a coin. In some circumstances they investigate. in others they do not. I watched the Lanzini one and I believe that it was a penalty. irrespective of whether he dived. The FA have introduced something in an unclear way, together with a system of investigation that is also unreliable to say the least. They would be better charging and banning managers who play the system with their post match comments. Mark Hughes has done more harm to football with his bitter comments than any potential Lanzini dive as does Wenger, Mourinho, Klopp and other so called top managers who whinge and moan if a single referee decision goes against them. How many times have they benefitted from last minute penalties that never were or should have had players sent off? The 2 Spurs tackles by Kane and Ali at the weekend deserve retrospective bans. not Lanzini.

{Ed025's Note - im with you degsy..

19 Dec 2017 11:58:55
Have to disagree here Degsy as Lanzini began going down expecting contact as he had over ran the ball, the contact wasn't made as Pieters had pulled out the tackle, therefore this is simulation.
I agree with the Kane and Alli instances and believe both should be banned regardless of whether the referee seen it and dealt with it in the game. Did the referee not deal with the Lanzini incident in the game? Yes he did and now his decision is being over ruled. Diving will not end a players career, tackles like Alli's can.
The only way to progress with other sports is to allow Captains to request a decision go to a video referee, it won't slow down the game anymore than a dispute does when the players surround the referee.

Agree with degsy, especially the Hughs thing. That guy is the biggest moaner in the league and does my head in. Ever since the Lescott transfer that lad has made my blood boil. But I’m going off point.

Lanzini was a pen in my eyes. What I can’t accept is the panel couldn’t all agree if Lukaku kicked a player a few weeks ago when he actually did him twice! Who are these people?

19 Dec 2017 18:08:25
Lanzini started going down Degsy while the defender was still in the dressing room waiting for the game to start. How anyone could call that a penalty and still have a straight face is a joke.

Seeing as you all agree/ disagree with parts of the post. but a couple of you don't think Lanzini'swas a penalty, I will give you my view on it. Lanzini had got the ball past Pieters. He saw Pieters coming in from the side and tried to anticipate the tackle and leap over the left leg of Pieters and in doing so started to fall forwards. At this point Piters pulled out and there was minimal contact with Lanzinis right leg. and because Lanzini was mid air. he carried on falling forwards. I might be wrong. But that's my view on it. Likewise I agree about the 2 Lukaku kick outs that were not punished. Nor were the 2 Spurs tackles nor were Hughes' comments. And that's what my original post said. it matters not if Lanzini was diving, caught, slipped or cheated. The only person who knows is Lanzini. but Likau def kicked out and the 2 Spurs tackles were leg breakers. Hughes has often "brought football into disrepute". and I think the FA have made a huge mistake with the 3 man panel and are investigating a minor problem in football whilst ignoring huge problems.

For me this three man panel is unnecessary, if the aim is to punish people deceiving the ref why not just have all refs at the end of their games review the footage of any highlighted issues themselves if they think they had been had then they can inform the F. A who then apply the 2 game ban. This does however rely on the refs not being stubborn and wanting to save face for being duped.

Linked to my post previously. I feel we are probably where we should be if you looks at fixtures we have played. Only league games.
Stoke home won (expected)
City away draw (bonus)
Chelsea away lost (expecred)
Spurs home lost (not expected but possible)
Utd away lost (expected)
Bournemouth home win (expectrd)
Burnley home lost (defo not expected)
Brighton away drew (not expected but it was away)
Arsenal home lost (like spurs, not expected but possible)
Leicester away lost (again not expected but was away)
Watford home win (expected)
Palace away draw (not expected but away)
Southampton away lost (again it was away)
West ham home win (expected)
Huddersfield home win (expected)
Reds away draw (bonus)
Newcastle away win (bonus)
Swansea home win (expected)

So most of the results would be as expected. The top 6 are always hard to beat home or away and away games are always tougher. I suppose Leicester away and Burnley home where the least expected results.

It was performances during those losses that were the problem. Saints away was poor as was arsenal home.

It was probably a perfect storm scenario, where we had higher expectations after our summer spending combined with a very tough run of fixtures at the start of the season that contributed to the low feeling round the club. We have now got back on track and the players and fans have a lot more confidence. Let's hope we can push on and up the table during the second half on the season.

would love to be told, why a club who are spending 150 million and with top four dreams are 'expecting' to lose games?

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Dec 2017 12:43:13
Because do you honestly expect to beat Utd or Chelsea away regardless of how much we spent.
I suppose I'm looking back on hindsight. I thought we may challenge them also but if i look at our club from last 20 odd years, we obviously struggled against top sides especially away.

geoffjohno - For me the language reflects the mentality: there's a difference between not 'expecting to win' and 'expecting to lose'.

We may not expect to win, but we will still fight 100% to try and achieve that goal.

If we expect to lose, losing is the default - so why fight hard when we should be content with a 1-0 loss?

For too long we've had the 'expect to lose' mentality, whereas if we want to progress we need to ditch this.

Completely agree toffee. The language used was probs wrong choice. Maybe I should have said something like tough game not surprised if we lose.
That's why I said it wasn't so much results that were the problem but the performances attached to them. No fight shown against saints, arsenal, Leicester etc.
The point i was trying to make is if we thought logically about it, we are probably where we would expect to be given the tough set of fixtures we had. Obviously perfomances have improved defensively and we look like we have a bit of steel and fight now so Chelsea and Utd coming up don't seem as bad as we would expect if koeman was still manager.

When you look at our last 10 games, won 6, drew 2 and lost 2 and 1 of those defeats was atalanta when we were already out of Europa league.
Pretty good form and let's hope it continues. I would take a draw against Chelsea, should beat West Brom, although they wil be fighting for their lives and then away again at Bournemouth who also are struggling before the mancs come to town.
Worst case should be 3 points out of those 4 but hopefully 6 or 9 before we head to the reds in the cup.
