If we were to be relegated, we would lose our best players, on mass, we would lose the premiership money on which, our new found solvency is based, and we would lose any hope of attracting the finance, vital if we are ever to have a new ground and have the chance of playing on an even playing field with other top clubs. Just hope those accusing us of being fickle for want the back of martinez have considered the consequences of keeping this arrogant out of his depth, failure. As things currently stand, we are two points worse off than when martainez took wigan down, that my friends, is fact, not opinion.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree. I did not start saying martinez should go till around the hull game. Personally I thought he was great last season. I also don't consider myself to be fickle but concerned. After 7 games this season I thought well its been a tough start to the season. After about 15 I looked at the league and saw a lack of consistancy amoungst most clubs and thought a good run of games would see us climb the league. But things have been getting worse not better a bad run of games sees us 3 points off relegation. I've said before any side can have a bad run and fans will forgive but to be unwilling to change is unforgiveable. It says everything when players are asking to change the tactics.

JCW100: if we were relegated, I doubt that we would ever recover as a club.
We would surely be like so many other clubs with great histories that now - apart from a few brief and infrequent yo-yo seasons back in the top tier - generally languish in the second or third tiers with a cup giant-killing being the most they can hope for or perhaps a promotion play-off.
We would become even more of a feeder club for the higher, wealthier clubs - regularly losing our best young players to them - and having a squad of lower-tier journeymen that would be all we could afford.
Our core support would remain loyal, but our regular home attendance would drop and we wouldn't get the income from that (or TV money or commercial income) to get us going again. With FFP blocking a wealthy Evertonian investing big in us, we'd have no real chance to recover.
Sixty years of top-tier football is in danger of being ended - and no realistic way of ever getting back!
RM and the players have 17 Premier League fixtures (9 home and 8 away) to keep us in the division. The Europa League is nice, but we MUST stay in the Premier League. Relying on at least three sides being worse than us - and finishing below us - is no longer looking a foregone conclusion. Champions League? We were having a laugh!

Just watched Arsenal play in a totally different direct style to win at City. If you watched it marmite man, take notice. If Wenger can compromise so can YOU!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Im sorry but has he not compromised in the last 3 games or was it my imagination seeing Jags and the rest hoofing the ball up to Lakaku? Your the worst kind of supporter in my book don't need your type.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ye cause we have a squad just like the gunners don't we if everyone on here can do a better job than bobby then why aren't any of you the manager of our team. Instead of going behind him an jumpin on his bk how about just getting behind him and just givin him a bit of support. Also ed if eto goes I've been told no one will replace him does this mean one of the younger strikers will be pushed up to the first team bench and if so who do you think it will be

Agree0 Disagree0

Well most of us who are on his back are doing so because even as amateurs we understand the basic concepts of the game, for example.

1 Practicing set pieces, quite useful for scoring goals.

2 playing players in their correct positions to get the best out of them.

3 Adjusting your tactics if the game plan doesn't work.

4 The fact that not leaking goals is as important as scoring them.

5 If you make a mistake put it right after the game not do it again week in week out till January and still insist you are doing the right thing.

If you want to support a man who will not admit we have a problem, and now is even using his time at Wigan as an example of success and that is his plan to get us out of this mess that is up to you. You are entitled to your opinion,

And to answer your question no we are not as good as Arsenal and that is the whole point. Today even Wenger realized as good as they are, they had to go direct and change things around to get a win. (the reason we play the game) And unless our revered manager does the same and compromises his "phenomenal" football philosophy we are in deep crap, no amount of blind support for el Bob is going to change that.

Agree0 Disagree0

Has he changed Mike? I saw the same as you, but he claims time and again there is no change. Is it him, or is it the players just ignoring him? Do you not find that a concern?

If holding an opinion you do not agree with makes me the worst type of supporter in your book, so be it. I couldn't care less.

In my opinion, with injuries and suspensions, the team tomorrow virtually picks itself.
Joel, Coleman, Jagielka, Stones, Baines, Besic, Barkley, Mirallas, Naismith, Lukaku, Oviedo.
Suppose that means Barkley wide left and Barry playing instead of Oviedo. Can't figure this obsession with two holding midfielders and no balance. It's not as if we keep clean sheets.
If we just go for it and the crowd will respond.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

About right, bringing in Barry I mean. Barry had one good season in him and that was last season, the lad has plenty of experience but his legs have gone. We really need mcarthy back and then I think Barry will go to the bench. Incidentally the last person to have Roberto's conviction, Charisma and utter belief that he knew best was a bloke named Cliff Britton. I wonder if Roberto has actually read up on Everton History.

Nervous for tomorrow. Think the atmosphere will be edgy. Looking at our season now we have suffered from predictable tactics and an unwillingness to change from the manager. He says our players need to enjoy their football but following them home and away it is obvious to see they are not and this has to be down to the way they are asked to play. Jagielka is never going to be a ball playing centre back barkley is never going to be a winger and aiden mcgeady is never going to be a premiere league footballer as examples. We need to play tolukakus strenghts to get the best out of him or we shouldn't have spent 28 million on him, if I was lukaku I would be so frustrated this season. The only benefit of the doubt I will give to martinez is we have had a huge amount of injuries but so have other clubs in the league. The question kenwright needs to ask himself now is, is martinez the right man to move out osman distain howard gibson pienaar alcaraz hibbert etc and build a new squad. We have the basis of a good young team in stones garbutt barkley coleman besic lukaku etc but we need to build on it. If we survive this season then then we still need to consider robertos position, I was a massive fan last season but unfortunately I think he is a one trick pony.

{Ed025's Note - i think you may be right sean..

Wholly agree, no matter the result on Monday (really need the points), Roberto has surely shot his bolt and shown like Moyes going to Man Utd, that when faced with a different level (due respect to Wigan) he just has not got it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yep spot on! i'm not usually one for stats but we are a couple of points worse off Than Wigan were the season they went down. The powers that be must be able to see what's going wrong? Although there has been a little improvement as of late i'm still worried about being just two points from the drop zone.

Totally agree Sean, I am dreading tomorrow night, let's hope the lads give it 100% and give us a result.

get a real feeling tomorrow Pulis / WBA will come to spoil and frustrate and get the fans quiet!

Agree0 Disagree0

One thing is guaranteed for Monday night and that is Tony Pulis knows Everton need the 3 points and will set WBA up to stop this.
WBA saw fit to change their manager recently by appointing Pulis to replace Alan Irvine. Unless there are unknown reasons why they did this, then it must be that they were not prepared to be caught in a relegation scramble again.
If Everton don't get the points tomorrow then Bill Kenwright has to make a big decision. The compensation to sack Martinez will be less than losing the TVs money should relegation be the consequence. Obviously Bill doesn't want to sack him because he made the appointment, but he can hold his hands up and say" I made a mistake".

As this is a banter site and we need a bit of cheering up. some Liverpool fan in last night said lambert is as good as Suarez on his day.also if true and eto is on 100,000 a week then glad we have got rid. When everyone is fully fit I wouldn't have him in the starting 11 and that some of money for somebody on the bench is too much for any club let alone us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Get rid of Eto'o?

But I thought he was our gift from the Footballing Gods™

Bobby Shoeshine was surely not spouting nonsense again. No, it can't be that.

Morning all fellow Blue Noses and Ed's.

I've been reading the comments on this site for a while now regarding our plight and Roberto Martinez and feel I must air my own views.

Everton are a massive club with history and in my opinion are in a false position within the Premier League. We have some very big names playing for us on some very big wages so, being asked to adopt a new style of football should not be a problem to a professional footballer. I'm sure all of you out there have worked for several bosses who's way of getting the job done are different but the end result is the same. English football is and always has been Predominantly rough contact pass and move forward, anticipating the long ball (route one.) Suddenly we're asked to play Catalan style which in itself is the same but with more flair, skill and ball control with confidence which the English have always lacked. Skill and confidence. Last season it worked as it was something new, this year it's old hat as we do not have the confidence to multi-task. Defend, possess and attack.
Roberto Martinez's problem, again in my opinion is, this is his tried and tested style which will and does work (Swansea) but needs adaptation to change. (Wigan) Remember British Leyland (later Rover.) They had the foresight to change the name to create a feel of modernisation but never changed the basics of to compete with quality Japanese and European markets. In other words, arrogance. The British Car Market had a captive audience and had no plan "B" when things got competitive. Other Car manufacturers could see the openings in Britain and took the Country's car makers by surprise. Unfortunately the workers and the rest of the British people could also see this coming but as usual, the Managers and Board were not listening. Roberto has the same sort of arrogance, he seems to be not listening to 40,000 Scousers week in and week out along with all other Evertonians and non Evertonians for that matter that this style of Football does work but is easily supressed and needs to be adaptive and changeable with a more pro-active, positive approach.
I do somewhat agree with some postings on here that, we only need to gain 15 points to survive the season but that seems to be falling in to same trap as Roberto's. Negativity.
Everton fans need to be positive, I realise this season so far is not very inspiring but with the last 2 games things seem to have changed a little. Maybe Roberto has been listening (although slightly) as the system has been different and a little more positive. Confidence and positivity will not come back overnight as this takes time but this looks like a start.
To take things forward to the next stage, (hope Roberto is reading this or at least listening) he needs to adapt the team/squad. Aiden McGeady, Gareth Barry, Silvan Distin, Darron Gibson must be taken out of the scenario and the likes of Luke Garbutt and other up-and-coming starlets should be introduced to create the flair and imagination he's looking for. The Board also need to do their bit by tying down the likes of Mirallas and Co to long term contracts. This club needs to be taken forward and needs everybody concerned to do their part to create this feeling of positivity we are all so craving for. It's there, it never went away, it was left to it's own devices with no imagination. Without good strong leadership the club will go nowhere and stay stagnant.
Everton will not be relegated this season. Fact. Everton will be relegated next season, fact if nothing is done, and soon. Guidance, the ability to adapt and positivity in boat loads is what we need and the Chairman to give the Manager the funds to create this positivity.
Just my opinion. Your thoughts!?

Marky Marc. (Brummie Blue-nose)

{Ed025's Note - really good read that mark, and i find it hard to argue with any of it mate...well done..

I agree with a lot of your post, and believe Everton is a massive club, in terms of history, fan base and its standing in the top level of English football, however without a massive investment this club will remain tantalisingly close but will never really threaten the top clubs! we have over the last few years achieved miracles with so little financial clout, even the likes of arse and spuds with more money struggle to break the top three.
Fact is that you can overachieve for so long but this season what has become apparent is at time a real lack of quality from a large number of players when the manager has asked for it. However it is also his job to coach and manage them, and to bring out the best in them, then if they are still not good enough then to replace them, which is becoming all to obvious now.

Agree0 Disagree0

My take is, stating Fact every other sentence does not make it so without evidence to back it up. Fact - Yes we can be relegated this season - evidence - league position, accumulated points, Roberto's comments on defense not important as long as the Team enjoys it's football (this is not Sunday morning league Roberto, with a visit to the pub to look forward to).

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree DM, facts will only be facts when the season ends.

Also it does not matter how positive we think it will not change anything, only dealing with the problems head on can change them, blind positive spin is what has got us into this mess in the first place.

Could anyone help me with this mystery illness, that seems to have robbed our chairman of his powers of speech, not a word on the gathering crisis, or perhaps the illness also effects the eye sight and the poor man cannot see what the other 30-40 thousand of us can see, or is it just that when anyone else other than martinez (THE SPANISH rubbishER) speaks, he puts his fingers in his ears and convinces himself all is well!
