Everton U-18 beat Arsenal 4-2 away tonight to reach sixth round of FA Youth Cup. Well done, lads. Hats off to Kevin Sheedy and Duncan Ferguson for coaching the team to victory against one of the tournament favourites.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

Well done I say, also I heard Matty Kennedy had another great game again, looks like we have a future star their.

Agree0 Disagree0

You can watch the highlights on the everton website - that kennedy look like a really good winger and he's been on 1st team bench a few times now

Agree0 Disagree0

Will probably have to wait until moyes leaves until the kid gets his chance in the first team as we all know what moyes is like when it comes to giving kids their chance.

In the league, we're away to Norwich this coming Saturday, then home to Reading the following Saturday. In between, there's the replay against Oldham. None of these is a given win - we'll have to compete properly and play well - but if we drop points in these two league games, then we risk kissing goodbye to a top six - let alone top four - league finish. My fear is that DM referred to the squad only having to cope with one game a week for the rest of the season - the first choice players starting pretty much every game from now on - and now he may have to rotate the players for these next three games, which has never worked for us due to our lack of quality in depth.

Everyone being really negative the past couple of weeks. The only thing Iv'e saw posted on here that I agree with is that the players are looking slightly tired, but I am sure they will pick up there energy levels soon.
Not interested in talking negative about Moyes, players or the board. All I am going to say is. We will qualify for the Europa, win the FA Cup and David Moyes will be manager next season and Leighton Baines will be our left back. (Fellaini will be off though in my opinion) don't care though as long as we rip someone off for him and then give the money to Moyes to work his magic!
Next up. Norwich. 3 points. 2-1 Jelavic WILL score.

Vellious, Kennedy, stones and Barkley all playing well for the youth team! Maybe time to give them a go and start introducing them into the first team! Got to freshen things up a bit! We are looking a bit stale at the moment!

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Other players I give ago to would be lundstrem and long

Agree0 Disagree0

Lundstram is a top player too, he might not get a lot of notice because he is not a flair player but he is quality, can't half pass a football!

I think all this talk of a replacement manager is premature. I have every confidence that we will start next season with a first class manager in place - David Moyes. As for Di Canio and Hughes - No class and not good enough and a backwards step.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Hughes is the only manager I can't stand more than benitez. that guy was a right person during the lescott transfer I would hate to see him manage everton

Agree0 Disagree0

Does anybody else not think that Weir and Stubbs are bad for our young players. I mean as players they were defenders and learnt thier stuff off Smith and moyes and now i'm guessing thier implementing their own plus moyes negative philosophy on the young players. It just bothers that the likes of Barkley and other good young upcoming players are learning from the like of these lot.

see paolo di canio has resigned, anyone take him in now and moyes out? let him get to know the players, bring some of his philosphy in now and get ready to decide what he wants to keep and what he doesn't for next season? i'm a big fan of how he does things but ofc a manager change mid way through a season rarely works and very doubtful at everton, but I just can't see moyes signing so I don't get why wed keep him till the end of the season if everyone seems to know he's going
thoughts? {Ed025's Note - a loose cannon for me mate, and not to be trusted..

Believable3 Unbelievable5

Why do you think he's a loose cannon ED? I've never actually asked that, he's passionate and wants to win everything, yet has never spent a penny, and would bring an arrogance to this club that's desperately needed, we need someone who removes this peoples club tag that I believe actually hinders us when it comes to big games {Ed025's Note - the arrogance he brings is the problem mate...when things dont go his way, the toys come out the pram!, if he did not get his way, he would up sticks like a shot, but by then he could have done untold damage...its that latin temperament, one to avoid IMO..

For all those touting Laudrup as successor when DM goes, I note that he - like DM - isn't averse to fielding a weakened team against that lot across the park and getting tonked. OK, so Laudrup was resting players for the League Cup final, but DM just doesn't seem to get - for all his people's club slogans - just how soul-destroying it is for Evertonians to lose to that lot when we should be in the ascendancy. For DM to rest players for the league game - and get well beaten - immediately before last seasons FA Cup semi final is bad enough, but then to lose the semi final with a whimper is too much. Oh dear, how sad, never mind.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

I said exactly the same thing.
i can't believe the respect he gives them. to lose 3 in one season is unforgivable imo. I have probably seen around 80plus derbies over the years and last season was the worst of them all. and I saw us getting battered five nil at home one year!

I for one don't think martinez would come to everton he rejected villa and didn't really speak to liverpool he's loyal! I would like to see ian holloway at Everton and also nigel adkins just hope stubbsy doesn't take over! {Ed025's Note - for me...none of them fit the bill mate..

Believable0 Unbelievable6

I wouldn't say he is loyal; unambitious more like. Who in their right mind would want to stay at Wigan? Crap owner, crap fans and crap players.

Mike {Ed025's Note - not a big wigan fan then mike?

Agree0 Disagree0

Holloway and adkins? nah defo not for me either ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nigel Adkins: did well to get Southampton two promotions, but there must be a reason why he was replaced. Maybe not the manager to take the club forward in the top tier level.
Ian Holloway: entertaining style of football with character to match, but his Blackpool team did get relegated, which - to date - hasn't happened to Wigan under Roberto Martinez.

Agree0 Disagree0

How Mike can call Dave Whelan, Wigan's Chairman and owner, crap beggars belief.
Mr Whelan has personally bank rolled the club from non-league into the premiership, a record of which he should be rightly proud and which deserves total respect.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have you ever heard a Dave Whelan interview? The bloke is an absolute clown, although maybe calling him 'a crap owner' was a bit harsh, I don't like the bloke, just a walking rent a gob.

Mike {Ed025's Note - im not his biggest fan mike...but i dont want him, just his manager...if ours leaves..

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah, I know ed, I was just letting the Wigan fan know why I don't like their chairman.

Mike

Agree0 Disagree0

Holloway and adkins NO THANKS.
Would be happy to see Martinez TBH.
i think he has served his apprenticeship and the fact that Villa and the reds wanted him, and his chairman gave permission, suggests that he might be ready for a bigger challenge.
Moyes was an unknown when we took him on and I think Martinez has more experience now than moyes did at the time. Also did a good job at swansea and started their revival. plays with style and would work within budget. I can't really think of anyone else. need a new owner more than ever now!

I think David Moyes will be our manager for a few years yet. By then I hope Karl Robinson of MK Dons has enhanced his rep further because he looks a quality manager based on his philosohy and fact he is only 32.
Hank {Ed025's Note - not a bad shout that hank..

Agree0 Disagree0

Mike, I'm not a Wigan fan but a dyed in the wool Evertonian but I recognise the success in football and business that Dave Whelan has achieved.
You are entitled to your views but these have been formed purely from media interviews and remarks.
The man played at the highest level as a professional footballer and as chairman of Wigan supported his managers, like Paul Jewell, who incidentally achieved no success after leaving, and seems to command a level of loyalty from his managers past and present.
It's a wise man that keeps his counsel when not in possession of all the facts.

Agree0 Disagree0

There is a Wigan board to talk about how great Dave Whelan is. I am not interested in the clown whatsoever. I don't care where he played, who he played for or who he employed to manage his crap team.

just been listening to radio Merseyside, they have been playing an hour long review of our magnificent 84/ 85 season listening to the commentaries and player interviews has had the hair on the back of my neck standing up and I swear I've had tears welling up in my eyes. The best days of my life following the blues all over the country and Europe. How we long for a return to them days beating all before us and picking up silverware. Its certainly picked me up listening to it. Just what I needed.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Wish I was around to remember those days mate when football was proper football.

Agree0 Disagree0

Best atmosphere IMHO was ECWC home semi-final second half against Bayern Munich in 1985. We'd rode our luck to get 0-0 in away first leg and had gone 0-1 down in home second leg. Then we just blew them away in second half to win 3-1. I say 'blew them away' when it was more a case of the Gwladys Street end sucking the ball into the net :-) What a night - I want more of that again! Once a blue, always a blue!

Agree0 Disagree0

Your spot on the Bayern semi was and still is to me the best atmosphere I've ever experienced at goodison the place was shaking. And ill take that atmosphere to my grave. its come close but it will never be beaten I don't imagine the atmosphere that night. I used to stand in the paddock them days and after tricky trev settled it the place erupted I lost one of my trainees in the celebration never found it and ended up walking home with only one trainee on. Happy days. Love to know what happened to that trainee though some arl paraffin lamp was probably walking around Walton with a reebok classic I think they where on one foot.

I see duffy has come out saying he wants more first team football as he is dropping down in the irish national team even if it means going out on loan. I don't blame the lad tbh. he deserves his chance in our fist team but moyes won't play him regulary, just a few sub appearances. It's the same with barkley and vellios don't know why moyes won't give them a chance. barkley can't do much worse than osman at the moment and its the same with vellios as jelavic is struggling badly. If moyes does decide to go which I think he will I think martinez or laudrup would be ideal choices for us as they both like to blend youth in with the old which is what I like to see happen. Anyway heres hoping to another trip to wembley.

Hey guys,

Please explain the love for Martinez?

I don't see anything special, he has about the same funds as Moyes (they've spent 8-9M for the last 3 seasons while gaining 10M back for the same 3 seasons) and is always in the relegation battle like at the minute. and will probably be going to go down.

Please enlighten me?

Believable3 Unbelievable2

He wouldn't be top of my list, but when you watch Wigan games they always play pretty decent football, always passing and moving rather than punting it. I think that's the attraction plus he did an interview yesterday where he spoke a lot about giving youngsters a go - having just played about 5 of them and winning 4 - 0

Agree0 Disagree0

Because he just might get the Everton team to consistently play progressive, expansive, attacking football. I loved the dogs-of-war, which we needed at that time, and I understood the need for a less cavalier approach when we didn't have the players, but we are the school of science and I want to watch the beautiful game.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's the right one, the bright one: he's Martinez. {Ed025's Note - love it mate..

Agree0 Disagree0

He is Spanish and he wears a nice suit.

Mike

Agree0 Disagree0

Is he a good manager or a lucky manager to have kept Wigan in the EPL by the skin of their teeth so far. Who knows for sure, but I'd like DM's successor to have one - preferably both - of those qualities (being good and being lucky) and apply them to inspiring Everton's squad to play attractive winning football for Everton's loyal and patient supporters.

Agree0 Disagree0

I want di canio myself but the reason people want Martinez is simple, he gets a small club from a rugby town playing nice football with rubbish players, he may spend similar to moyes difference is he never moans about money gets paid less and we have the luxury of being able to attract far better players so ofc we finish higher, with our squad Martinez would get us 4th no doubts about it, he'd ditch nev Naismith big vic yano the rubbish players and bring in his own players that can move the ball, he likes football moyes likes hoof ball, Martinez would get players like mirallas showing their flair and pace, he's never paid more than double figures for a player like moyes yet they mov the ball far better ands squads thicker, player quality helps yes but a managers style is far more important
Marouanes mop

Agree0 Disagree0

Because when he's interviewed, he seems to be the right balance of realism, honesty, optimism, and positivity. He's one of the few managers who doesn't come across as ungracious, self-absorbed, blinkered, mindgame-playing, or trying to spin everything. {Ed025's Note - i agree with that mate..

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for the comments guys.

I see bonus's being attractive football, not scared to have a go, Honest manager, would let the youth through etc.

So why are Wigan always fighting the Relegation battle? Something we've NOT done since Moyes has been in charge?

Agree0 Disagree0

In 2003-4, under DM, we finished 17th on 39 points - just six points clear of the bottom three relegated clubs. In some other seasons, we'd have been relegated on that points total.

Agree0 Disagree0

We haven't had to battle relegation as we are a far more attractive team to join than wigan, if you were a foreign or homegrown star and someone said wigan and everton want you, I don't know many whod go let me talk to wigan I want to go there, we are still a very big club, something that wigan could never be even with a sheik, martinez with the extra money moyes gets compared to wigan would turn us into something special playing wonderful football, and ofc wed actually get to see green, barkley, garbutt lundstram etc etc develop, he can bring that young callum mcmannamon with him too if he fancies it, looks a very very good player

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we retain our top players for longer, and when they go they tend to go for quite a bit. a lot of wigan's best players leave either on a free or in last year of contract so they are constantly turning over their squad where as at least we have relative stability

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Guys, your responses have been brilliant.

Although none of you have give me any confidence in having Martinez as a manager.

Thanks for your time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Plus he's won at Liverpool and Arsenal with worse players than we have, but I think jist of it though is that most fans are fed up of watching moyes style of football when we have the players to do so much better.

Who does Moyes think he is? He has won nothing with us. All he has done really, is stabilize the club in and around the top 6/7 been to one cup final and been 4th once and has been paid a fortune to do so.
Telling the fans and the board "I'l see how we do before making a decision weather or not to stay" is disgraceful in my opinion. Wrong move Mr Moyes. Yes, the fans love you, but don't disrespect us or you will lose what respect you did have in a second.
Stay or go, your not bigger than the club. The club will be here for a long time when you have gone.

This site has gone crazy over Moyes comments about his contract situation!
He will sign a contract in the summer, no doubt about it. He is one of the highest paid manager's in europe and is at a great club were is job is 100% secure.
He is forcing the board's hand in my opinion, he will sit down in the summer with them and the first thing he will ask is "How much have I got in the window?
They will defo have something for him.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Needs backin, plain and simple. all this negativity happens every transfer window moyes has always tried to stay positive and put a positive spin on it. it was always gona come to this, what else can he do, I'm happy that the board is being asked the question of ambition because that is what it's about. moyes has ambition, do the board match his ambitions.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Feb 2013 16:07:59
Everyone can make a boob at a press conference and moyse is no different. Foolish to say " it all depends on". etc. But there is no doubt something is going on behind the scenes. Moyse said some time back it wouldn't necessarily take a billionaire to put Everton in a competitive position for the top places and Kenwright must have given him hope that something was on the boil as regards the possibility of new investment. how else did Moyse talk Fellaini into signing a new deal. there must have been a real hope that got dashed along the way. The new investment has clearly has not materialised and Moyse, I think venting his frustration, will no doubt be regretting the tone of his remarks because he does take the fans seriously. I feel almost certain that his pride is such that he really does not want to leave Everton without saying he has won a cup. But if Everton do go on and win the FA Cup things might change and he might feel he can walk away with his reputation secure. However, walking away is a big big decision. as someone truly redheaded and famous once said. once Everton has touched your heart. he knows he may never get a better job and better job security. and those doubts will be working alongside any testing of the waters to see if any clubs seriously start fishing for him in the light of his reluctance to sign a new deal. To be fair to him, though, he obviously feel he cannot take Everton further without a real cash injection. none of us saw 8 million being available to get Leroy Fer so he has clearly pushed the board to some extent and now he wants to see how far they will go out on a limb for him and the club. his only way to do that is to play the game of "give me more cash and I will sign. if not, I am not sure I will". It is natural that seeing what he has this season, he still believess there is a significant gap between the top four and the rest and he has got to that stage where he no longer wants to settle for battling for top six. he wants a crack at the title. The stakes for me are all about how far he can he push the board to take Everton on to the next level. and the next part of the puzzle is all about how the boardroom react to his game of chess and what they are prepared to do. or not do. to give him that opportunity. The other side of the question is now that things ae up in the air. do the majoirty want Moyse for another five years? Undoubltedly he is highly thought of in managment terms and his status is high among his peers. On the whole he has made good signings. probably better in defence than in truly eyecatching attacking talent. but his tactics are questionned by many fans and his loyalty to players who are not top grade. His nurturing of young players is still open to question. Barclay would have been given a run under other managers almost certainly. And then there is his treatment of his forwards. Yakubu scored goals wherever he went and he was not built to run all over the pitch. Moyse appeared stubborn in his decision to not play Yakubu when we were crying out for someone of his type around the box. we bring in a Croatian from Rangers who scored for fun but now so often looks knackered. We do have a small squad but you can't run forwards into the ground. On the whole, I would still like to see Moyse stay. no one works harder at management and he has a steely desire to win which I like, but everyone has his weaknesses. and if he were to got to pastures new, it might not be the end of stability for Everton. Look at Swansea. Brendas replacement isn't doing too bad (allowing for a 5-0 exception!)
Oscar {Ed025's Note - good post that oscar...and i agree with most of it mate...cheers..

Believable5 Unbelievable0

Some good points there.
i remember marcus bent playin up front on his own and it worked to a certain extent. he worked his arse off for us. the yak was never going do the same and jela doesn't look as if that role suits him either. I would love to see velios given a run of games to see if he can do it. on the younger players, I remember moyes saying he was going to built a team with young players but I can't say I have really seen much evidence of that. he seems reluctant to give them much of a run. {Ed025's Note - your right mate..

Agree0 Disagree0

I believe DM was completely out of order by stating his decision to commit to an extended contract was dependent on the team's end of season position.
Despite EFC's more than satisfactory performances over the last ten seasons, for which David Moyes must take much but certainly not all of the credit for, he is still work in progress as a manager.
Remember but for a few seasons managing in the lower divisions DM has cut his teeth with a top team with a great footballing history and tradition.
Team selections and tactics are often difficult to understand and we never seem to have the ability to change our pattern of play when the game is not going to plan.
If we could afford the best striker in world football, he would fail to deliver consistently at EFC because of our style of play. Lone strikers need to possess exceptional first touch skills, irrespective of the quality of the ball played to them, along with the physical capabilities to hold the ball long enough for the midfield players to break forward and support.
I also feel DM is frightened of change, possibly because of the pressure of the need for instant success, which has affected the ability for promising youngsters to be developed into the first team.
Also, he has been afforded total control of all footballing matters, without interference, by BK and financially rewarded by becoming one of the top ten paid managers in world football.
Perhaps he now believes the hype, or should I say mainly tripe, written about him in the national press.
If he decides to go I hope he takes Steve Round and Chris Woods with him to allow the new manager a real chance to take Everton to a footballing style and level that the supporters deserve and have experienced in the past.
Fancy Smith {Ed025's Note - although slightly harsh fancy...you make some fair points...good read that mate..

I believe if moyes was staying he would have openly said so. Think its time the board openly said we are looking at are next move. And if it not about money but about where the club is going. KW is too soft with moyes.
i can't think of too many managers who would get away with this attitude.
look at levy at spurs.
as soon as redknapp made it clear he was interested in the england job levy potted him.
KW is a dreamer and let's moyes rule the roost.
a proper chairmain would say.
" Listen moysie you have earned an absolute fortune here over the last 10 years with no real pressure.
by not signing you are giving out the wrong message to players and supporters alike, I want an answer by the end of the week or we will look elsewhere"
no one is bigger than the club.
Moyes is not being respectful to the club with this attitude.
Personally I would sack him and bring Martinez who will work to a budget and whose teams play stylish football.

Yes, sack your manager whilst we are still in the hunt of Europe and a trophy. And of course, Wigan will just allow their manager to leave whilst they are in the middle of a relegation battle and a game from Wembley.

How can anyone want Martinez. All very well judging him on the odd result, but if he`s so good why has his side conceded over 50 goals in the premiership so far this season. And, it`s not him who finds these players, it`s ex. pro Kevin reeves who does most of the scouting for Martinez, and Reeves was at Swansea before Martinez arrived. So, get Reeves to scout for us and leave Martinez where he is as he obviously can`t sort out a defence.
Bluefish. {Ed025's Note - our players are a lot better than theirs fish, he plays good football for me mate..

Isn't it strange how Neville's contract situation is the same as Moyes, he knows other managers wouldn't give him a game. Way too slow and makes too many mistakes for the Premier League. Should have retired or moved on 2 seasons ago. I believe he will go with Moyes and Round.

Moyes is taken the mickey out of our club with this contract issue. if it was one of our top players doing it Moyes would be fuming, he should lead by example, he should have signed before now but if he wants to leave he should have said before now so club can search for replacement, a huge amount of evertonian are getting pissed off with Moyes over this. he is one of the best paid managers in prem and also in complete control if he moves he might get more money but not the control and pataience at everton. you are not bigger than everton moysie

There is a four year contract, worth aprox, 4mill per year sitting on Moyes desk, =. £16 million pounds. The man is not some sort of god, he is an employey, and ultimatley, we pay his wages. Time then for him to be told, you come in monday and sign your contract, or come in and clear your desk.

Moyes has been and is a brilliant manager and I really wish he could have the money he needs to cement us a champions league space. But he hasn't and to be honest he never will. So either he sticks it out at everton knowing he must raise every penny himself orleave. I personally think he will stay but if he doesn't I think there are three outstanding candidates fir the job. All three are currently doing a similar job with varying degrees of success. The closest to Moyes I would think would be Paul Lambert of Aston Villa. He seemingly knows how to work a budget and maximises player potential. Neil Lennon of Celtic is a good up and comer with a real fiery character and instils that dogged determination which we've all come to appreciate at our own club. You can tell all his players are willing to bleed for the shirt. Again maximises player efforts and play nice enough football. Lastly Roberto Martinez of Wigan gets his team playing really good possession football. But unlike across the park its possession with a purpose. We would play some very stylish football under him and he'd have the better quality of footballer that a club like ours can attract and already has. Anyone of those three and i'd be happy. But i'd be even happier if Moyes signs.
