I like a lot of other everton fans tend to be a glass half empty type when it comes to us and transfers, but for some strange reason this time I'm not.I did receive a bit of info a while back off one of our youth players father(who also is employed by the club),he told me we weren't very far off signing Lukaku. To be honest I didn't believe him for a second as much as I wanted to.but whatever has happened recently the glass is suddenly half full for me,I believe that all this delaying is for a very good reason and not the normal(we're skint)reason.its only my personal opinion but I believe Rom will sign for us and that will then in turn help us look more attractive to the other targets that Roberto is juggling around.i believe great things are on the way again for our great club.NSNO

I've been looking at YouTube clips of Besic and, even though those clips are always 'condensed excellence' (I think I just made that term up) and don't show the players switching off or cocking up, but after watching him play I thought he appeared to be pretty damn good. If anyone else sees it, then you may be as surprised as I was to find that he actually plays CB (but can play DM, as he did in the World Cup). This guy is like Coleman, but as a CB, making swashbuckling, fearless runs forward, passing really accurately, tackling brilliantly and having the pace to race around the whole pitch quickly, hardly ever being caught out of position. Besic is a damn fine talent. If we don't get him after all this hoo hah about 'signing Besic imminent' maelstrom in the rumour mill for the past fortnight, then I will probably punch a wall. Or not. I'll more than likely just have a cup of tea and a kit Kat and get over it. I'll let you know how it goes.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A very highly regarded Dutch journalist can't speak highly enough about him.Like you I've only seen the few World Cup games and YouTube clips which in all fairness make most players look great.anyway the journalists point was about the ridiculous premium attached to English talent and he believed that if Besic was English he'd b worth 12-15 million.

Agree0 Disagree0

Seen him twice. i'm not one to go off a world cup. i.e babb diouf diao and whoever else that mobb signed. but he did strike me as an excellent footballer. Positional sense very good and his awareness was even better. sometimes you can just see it someone. he is one. hope I wasn lookin at pjanic

Just a thought but does anybody think if a manager is holding back waiting on a player to make his mind up if he wants to join us or not, well then maybe it's not the player that's holding us up but the manager, I'm just sick to death now with this Lukaku speculation if you have the funds Bobby spend it, but just remember no player is bigger than the club.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Is this the case stef none of us know for sure wots actually going on behind the scenes of coarse we all want the new signings in now but don't think we need to worry to much yet Martinez will come good I'm sure we will see some new players soon

Don't think missing out on Ba will be too disastrous. Didn't Newcastle have fitness issues with him over Ramadan and fasting? Wondering if this has been an issue with other Muslim players and if it would apply to Kone?

17 Jul 2014 19:03:39
Well last pre season, when Kone had joined, even the Big Man Distin had said he was impressed with Kone even without any food in him. So I think that it'd be an isolated case for Ba. Every persons body reacts differently to fasting. Personally, i'm knackered!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes it did last season with Kone when we 1st bought him.

I know it's irrelevant, because he's already signed elsewhere, but Demba Ba wouldn't have been a bad signing. He was very good at West Ham and very good at Newcastle, where he played as a key part of the team, as well as a poacher. At Chelsea, they just counter, and he doesn't have the pace or skill to manage. Back at us, he'd have been more like his old self.

Money grabber. end of. If he scored 30 goals for us, he would be looking to move on. Not that hw would have.

Demba Ba's agent reckons we'd agreed terms with him but Besiktas came in at the last minute. He also said that 'the financial details played a large part'. Money talks boys. Eremenko being mentioned now too. Has looked decent when I've seen him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Most likely we were only prepared to pay what we thought he was worth!certainly not disappointed we didn't get him!

Agree0 Disagree0

Pleased that we know what a player is worth and we won't get involved in silly contracts, one door closes a better one opens, has been the case although frustrating for 20 years .

Do Everton have any interest in Red Bull Salzburg's two strikers Jonathan Soriano (28) and Alan (25)?

They managed to score 57 goals between them in the Austrian league (Soriano with 31, Alan with 26) and both have Europa league experience, scoring 12 goals (Soriano with 8, Alan with 4) before Red Bull Salzburg were knocked out in the last 16.

Jonathan Soriano has scored 60 goals in 72 games for Red Bull Salzburg since 2012, with 54 in 79 games for his previous club FC Barcelona B.
Alan has sored 50 goals in 72 appearances for Red Bull Salzburg since 2010, with 17 goals in 50 appearances for Fluminese.

I think both players would be relatively cheap in comparison to the likes of Lukaku and Bony. They would also add Europa league experience to the squad which could be very beneficial.

According to quotes from Demba Ba's agent, Everton nearly signed the player - and had actually agreed terms - before he went to Besiktas. Now I'll trust RM's judgement re players coming and going, but I reckon we've dodged a bullet with this player.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agents are only happy when players move sid.I wouldn't read to much into what he said.unless I hear it from bobby I will take it as his agent playing mind games with Besiktas. If it does turn out to be true I agree we dodged a bullet.

New Besiktas signing Demba Ba almost signed joined Everton according to football agent Ahmet Bulut.

"It wasn't an easy transfer, it took a month of talks, " Bulut said.

"But at the end we achieved our goal, Demba Ba always wanted to join but we had trouble convincing Chelsea.

"There were around five clubs interested in Ba, actually Everton had agreed terms with Ba but we clinched the deal last minute.

"Ba was intrigued by the prospect of playing in a country with a muslim majority as well as the Besiktas stadium project and the interest shown by the fans.

"Of course the financial details also played a large part in him making the move."

Bulut also revealed that Jose Mourinho played an important role in ensuring the transfer went ahead.

What I'm not understanding is, other clubs seem to be identifying players they want to sign and then they get the deals done. We on the other hand identify the players, rm said he knew his targets before the World Cup and appear to leave others dictate the situation. I.e Lukaku, he wants to have a holiday before he decides what he wants to do? We should be making the offer when we want if it gets accepted the player either wants to come and play or he doesn't and we move on. The teams around us last year have been getting their deals done, giving their squads time to gel but again we are still waiting for people to make up their minds

Not Everton related but how nice in an age arrogance in footy

Yesterday we brought you the news that World Cup runner-up Argentina gave their World Cup bonuses to a cancer care unit in Buenos Aires.

Today, it is the turn of World Cup winner Mesut Ozil to prove that world class footballers can be good guys too. Before the tournament the Arsenal star pledged to pay for the surgery of 11 sick kids in Brazil to symbolise the 11 members of his team.

Yesterday, on his Facebook page, Ozil updated his pledge after Germany’s victory

Argentina gave only part of their winnings and now Ozil has increased that 11 to 23. All good news.

Good to get some positive news about modern footballers. good post!
