Following my previous post, I should have added that Martinez needs to realise that when Everton fc play well 38,000 Evertonians have a smile on their faces.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - thats why we all have faces like smacked arses at the moment keenone.. :)

On football rumours, mirror.co.uk, Martinez this evening saying When Barkley is playing at his best he has a smile on his face. I've never seen Barkley smile at all.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - he would,nt smile if he seen a chair walk keenone..

Wedgewood earlier was quoting RM saying that he would not budge from us principles and that players had to get back to enjoying their football. In my opinion the only way you enjoy your football is when you are winning and sometimes this means you have to change.
Now I admit I am coming at this from a spectator only. I scored one worldie in a school game and managed briefly pub teams Saturdays and Sunday league.
A little story. I remember watching my lad play for the school. The school team were crap, totally disorganised. They got hammered nearly every week. This one week the teacher was refereeing another game and at half time the lads were 3-0 down. It was obvious what was wrong, square pegs in round holes. Me and another parent totally reorganised the team, told them to forget the first half and pretend it was a new game. They won the second half 1-0 and the kids were buzzing. The person of a teacher went ape when he heard we we interfered believing that kids should just be left to enjoy themselves doing it his way. Bulls****.
In sport you need organisation, tactics and only if you win is it enjoyable and sometimes, however stubborn you are you have to accept change.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That is the point Tedster, if it isn't working you do have to accept change. My worry is that there is no sign at all that this basic concept is in el Bob's head, quite the opposite like the teacher you mention, they must "enjoy" their football his way.

So if there is a refusal to change or even a refusal to believe anything is wrong, what should be done about it?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - its a tough call wedge..if we do fall into the bottom 3...do we sack him?....if so who do we get?....do we stick by him regardless?...

Well Ed that is the million dollar question. I would be of the stick with the manager and support the team school of thought normally. But this is totally different to a bad run of form and results.

If he gave just one sign that he accepted there is a problem rather than this BS about players "enjoying their football" Or made some statement of intent to put things right rather than try to tell us how good Wigan were I would say stick with him.

As it is, I am looking towards the end of the season, if we stick with him and go down what does that do to the club? Will it put us in administration? Could we survive in the Championship if docked 10 points? Never mind come back up at the first attempt.

Can we risk sticking with him? I know it is not the Everton way and I honestly hate to say it, but I would sack him now while we still have a fighting chance.

As for who to replace him, who knows? A stop gap appointment I suppose, although there is not much choice out there, maybe Hoddle or Sherwood on a 6 month contract, if they would do it that is!

Agree0 Disagree0

9 home games left 5 wins. 8 away games left 1 win. 18 more points. Simples. We shouldn't even be considering these scenarios.

Martinez has his head in the sand. He doesn't want to change despite seeing his old Wigan team drop out of the premiership. He puts himself before any club and that means he's dangerous. Will he care if we go into free fall? He didn't shed many tears over Wigan. In fact he just took their better players.

If we get relegated I don't think we'll ever return. There would be a huge fire sale just to keep afloat and that would leave a team in danger of slipping further.

If RM won't change then I believe we need to for the sake of the club and our supporters. I would take Hoddle and quickly before he's QPR boss in a few weeks.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am hoping that this strange silence from BK means that he is active behind the scenes trying to sort out the mess that Roberto with his obstinate belief in his system has got us into. As for sacking him, it should have happened 2 - 3 games ago, as for replacement, Big Dunc with Joe as his advisor. We would see an immediate improvement because I believe Roberto stifles and/or ignores the evidence of his system failure and advice from non-yes men.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - if we did get rid of bobby..i would not like the responsibility for saving us put on the shoulders of dunc no matter how broad they are, it would have to be someone with pedigree for me DM, i remember newcastle trying it with shearer and it never worked then!..

Not only has Roberto got his head in the sand but the rest of Football also it would seem. Watching the Sunday Supplement at the moment and no mention of Everton but plenty on Villas problems yet we are both on the same points. We are a great Club, yet our profile has been eroded to that of an also ran.

Chelsea player Andre Schuurle is available. could probably get him for 15m or so. Worth going for him and trade Barkley, and with the rest of money another CB.

I think Martinez is being too complacent, there being too many similarities with Everton now and Wigan from couple of years ago. As I've said before, should the worse happen then he will just walk away and look for another club, leaving someone else to sort the mess out. The longer it continues it is more likely many more players will look to leave in the summer, (the better players). Then a bigger rebuilding job starts again. He has got to start playing to keep the opposition from scoring. At least one point is better than none at this stage.

No way can we get schurrle

Agree0 Disagree0

You are 100% right Keenone, we do need to tighten the defence, we do need to scrap for every point. Everyone on here seems to see it, the sports press see it, even the players see it. The problem is the only person who doesn't seem to get it is el Bob.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why go for Andre Schurrle when we could get Shaun Maloney? That's the caliber of player Bobby Brown Shoes is interested in.

And he has his next job lined up. He is a shoo in to be the next Barcelona manager isn't he. If not them, then definitely Real Madrid. That's why Kenwrong won't sack him, think of the compensation he will lose out on.

We ain't won a game since 15th Dec against Qpr & I can't see us catching the likes of West Ham, Stoke, Newcastle even palace have moved ahead of us.
Soton the surprise package 4 me playing marvellous footy & lpool have left us behind a massive 13 pts ahead of us when about 6 weeks ago I remember us being above the reds.just goes to show the poor form were in.
If we lose or draw on Monday were right in amongst it

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - your dead right mate..

Thanks to Bobby Shoeshine our rivals are now the likes of QPR, Sunderland, Burnley and Aston Nilla.

At least we pass the ball around aimlessly better than them though, and that's all that matters to The Catalan Clown.

{Ed025's Note - im coming around to your way of thinking mike..im not really,, :)

These guys get thousands of pounds a week they should be able to play any style any shape so I don't see why everyone blames ony bobby I understand some players are put out of normal role an maybe that few can.be forgiven but the rest of the team need to stand uo an take some blame

Bit of a worry when we are talking about survival & should get 40 pts.Sounds like the Wigan way but look were they are now

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - im afraid thats the position we find ourselves in jonsey, and who would have thought that after last season mate?..

The scary part for me is that it appears that el Bob seem to think Wigan was a success!

In tonight's Echo el-Bob says he will not sacrifice his principals for a quick fix.

Here are some quotes from the article.

Asked if he was ever tempted to adopt a more direct approach he said: "Never. The doubt is to make sure that the players get back to enjoying their football." (Kind of makes you wonder about him agreeing to the players request to go more direct?)

"It's no good for us to change around in terms of style or how you're going to win games because it's no good to win one game and then lose the next three." (I would take that as oppose to losing four on the bounce your way you clown.)

"I had it before at Wigan. In the first three seasons we always finished with our aim of staying in the Premier League because we had really good runs and we were very good at what we were doing. (So good you just avoided relegation each year!)

"We won the FA Cup because you get into a position where the team knows how to perform." (And got relegated in the process is acceptable?)

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but if he really believes the garbage he comes out with, I just can not see how we are going to survive this season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - thats very worrying wedge..

Whats got my goat up this season is we don't practice set pieces Bobby prefers to score in open play. I love football

This time last year I'd have been peed off with today's results, i.e. Man utd & Liverpool winning & the other scores in general. It's not a good sign that we're now looking down, not up.
Still, I'm not getting too pessimistic, yet! A win on Monday, a couple of decent signings & we might do a late season surge. It's not like we haven't done it before!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Can't see us been relegated mate think we will finish around 9th at the end, and a Europa final too look forward too.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - at this moment alan...i would settle for 17th and out of the europa in the next round..that may sound pessimistic mate, but i have given up on this season, and relegation would be my worst nightmare..

Yeah but we did it under Moyes, remember how we called him, but for me being old school give me the dogs of war 1-0 wins every time. Big mistake leaving all this in Roberto's hands and now it is to late to get rid because we have nobody to come in.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't see us getting relegated? We have won a grand total of 5 league games. 2 of them we should or could have lost too! Yeah, we are too good to go down and our quality will keep us up. Heard that one too before!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - me too degsy..

I've looked at our fixtures Ed and we should get to 40 points imo. Feel the players have to give us something to shout about this season it has been awful, and a good run in Europe would put the pride back into the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - that would be great alan. but you know what they say..the best laid plans of mice and men...and all that..

Like I have said loads of times. It is the fact we keep drawing games.not the ones we lose. If we had won just a few of the drawn games we would be much higher in the league. How many times e we heard people say we should have won that game or this game? Too many!

Agree0 Disagree0

. just checked the premier league table. we're currently 17 points of 4th spot. didn't realise just how far we'd slipped. there can't be any excuses I'm afraid. I feel we're a lot better than that on paper. what an absolute joke of a season!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - a lot better on paper...its a pity we play on grass..

Lol ed. but seriously. who's to blame here? I blame Bobby, you can say it's the players that go out & perform, but the players are ultimately the managers responsibility in terms of motivation, game style, tactics, team spirit etc. I think some serious questions must be answered here.I think we can safely write this season off now in terms of any European place finish & of course we are out of both cups.that leaves the Europa only, but I'm not holding my breath!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - ultimately the buck does stop at the manager zacki, i realyl hope for his sake he can turn things around..

nice one Mushy, a bit of class.

Austin, Ings & Delf all free in the summer,
any chance of us getting any of these?
or will it be Cleverly & others from Wigan?

Eto on the way, why? were we not in for Defoe?
many questions, but no answers form Lord Lucan & the Marmite man.
same old mushroom management.

I think, as usual, most deals will be done over the last week. But I think the question were all asking is: are we actually going to sign anyone? We've been linked with player after player, and nothing seems to be happening. We must have something to spend, even if it's only a few mil, because we had record financial figures not too long ago. We don't seem to even be going for loans. Any news ed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - there will no doubt be moves behind the scenes IWJB, but although we do have money to spend, most clubs seem to frown on spending it in this window dont ask me why..

It seems to be that RM likes to sign someone from Bulgaria or one of the South American countries that no one can pronounce. Very gifted technically and can do a job.but not to set the world alight. Look through the Premiership and it is full of ex Wigan players at Stoke and other average teams.we have 4 ourselves!

It's 50 years since the death of Sir Winston Churchill.

The battle of Christmas is over, I expect that the battle of relegation is about to begin. Upon this battle depends the survival of our great club. Upon it depends our pride and knowledge of supporters who know their history.
The whole fury and might of the enemy (WBA, Palace and RS etc) must very soon be turned on us.They know that they will have to break us home and away or lose their hope that we will fall.

If we can stand up to them, all blues may be free of fear and the life of their world may move forward into broad, sunlit uplands. But if we fail, then our whole world, (even those who don't like Ossie) including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new Dark Age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the faces of our best players heading off to Chelsea, City and the like.

Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves that if the great Everton FC and its supporters last for a thousand years, men will still say, 'This was their finest hour'.

Given the debate on here lately about selling our young players to raise money for transfers, who would you rather see how? Barkley, Coleman, McCarthy or McGeady (sorry that one was a joke). I personally think we should keep them all and along with Stones. Besic, Lukaku, Garbutt and yes Joel. We have the making of a very good young team.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If we can get as reported the 40 million for Barkley and the money is spent to rebuild the squad then I would say that's our best option. As good as he can be, yet to see it on a consistent basis and at 21 now he should be commanding games with his talent.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jan 2015 20:49:51
HB he's 21, he still has a lot of time on his side. Let's not do a Rooney and make some other club millions. If we sell him half the money will dissapear and with the rest we will buy average players, and remain an average team.

Here's a flash back boys that will hopefully put in perspective that our club is actually in a good position.

3 years ago we had Denis Staqualursi, Royston Drenthe, Magaye Gueye and an ageing Phil Neville and a few others in and around our first team. I'd be surprised if people of that ability would make our reserves team this season. We finished 7th that season. We have the squad to get top 8 and anything less than that will not be a good enough.

It was the second time in 20 years we had a striker scoring more than 15 goals in a season - that's Lukaku who is 21 and just starting his career.

It was our highest league attendance average since the days of Rooney and Fergusonin the same team.

Let's be proud, get behind the boys, show a bit of heart and have a beast finish to this season.

The problem is m8 that team 3 yrs ago might not of had the best player in the world but they new how to defend, an that's why we was finishing 5th so many times, this zonal marking is killing us, no good having class player who can't defend for toffee an create chance, in moyes last yr we had more shot on target an created more, than we have since rm been here the only thing we do better now is keep the ball in are own half its not good enough

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im with you on zonal marking BB...when was the last time space scored a goal?..

17 Jan 2015 11:05:25
Big Dennis Stracq would get in any team, more passion than anyone

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - not for me murf...bags of passion, but a very limited footballer mate..

I am with Bluebeard on this. If a team concedes every game and sometimes concedes 2, then they won't win many games. hey guess what. we haven't won many games. What a coincidence!

What worried me in the press conference was that when questioned about our poor defending RM went on the lines that it wasn't an issue for an attacking team that can score goals, not sure that's what we really wanted to hear at this time!

Agree0 Disagree0

Saying that defense is not an issue in a Team that attacks and scores goals just goes to show that Roberto is blind to the position we are in, it also shows he is going down exactly the same road as he did with Wigan. Meanwhile Bill sits up their in his London Ivory Tower and not a word or any sign of action and worry. Never mind though eh Bill.

Agree0 Disagree0

We don't score enough goals to not worry about defence, we need to go back to man to man marking, if I was bill I tell RM that he must hire a defence coach,
