I'm looking forward to the weekend, no blue's result to depress me, plenty of sport on the telly, football, snooker & darts (talking to Wes "the Warrior" in ASDA this week"
having a nice piece of Cod tonight, steak tomorrow & then a Sunday roast.Still got plenty of duty free Chablis & Corona cigars left from our Xmas shopping trip to France, God life is good!
Then I start to think about our team selection for Monday night.
this goalie maybe o.k. after all,
Coleman & Baines might start to perform,
should we play Alcastrash instead of Stones,
where should we play Barkley,
should Kev play or bring in a young lad from the youth team,
play the KAK or that bloke who used to have the bleached hair,
Or do what the Marmite man does. .
put all the names in a hat & let the wife pull them out for team selection?
bloody hell! that's the weekend f'd.

Well actually the results are depressing, Crystal Palace above us now. West Brom becomes a must win.

{Ed025's Note - there are going to be a lot of must wins before the season is out DM..

This has risen its head again about Barkley playing for the England u21 squad, Why is RM so against him playing for his national team?? If he is picked to play for his country it should be seen as a good thing for club. Think what i'm trying to say is SHUT UP ROBERTO IF HE IS PICKED HE IS PLAYING!.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He talks about this in his press conference today, what he feels is that when you have progressed to the national team and already played in a major tournament it would be a step back and no benefit, also that the space in the U21 squad should be for a player progressing upwards, but he is happy for him to go if Southgate calls him up. The same was said for Sterling.

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you really that concerned if Barkley plays for the under 21's. I would rather he didn't, give him a rest during the summer. Sterling has already pulled out.

Agree0 Disagree0

He played the World Cup so to expect him to go to another tournament when others have the summer off is a Liberty in my eyes.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't worry about Ross having a rest, there is plenty of time for that with him doing a gentle stroll around the pitch on match days this season, he should be well rested for the U21's.

Agree0 Disagree0

People tell me this bloke has been over here since 1995, well maybe so but he still does not get the English, British patriotic train of thought. Barkley will not benefit from a under 21 call up says Roberto. Roberto but England will benefit from a Barkley presence. Sorry Roberto but this extreme slip into a relegation nightmare is solely down to you and your staffs training strategy.

Just a thought but if your allowed over age players in the U21 squad, why doesn't the 2nd choice keeper whoever it may be at the time, play week in week out for them. At least he would be getting regular game time? Even if it clashed with a Saturday Premier league game (which I don't think they do). My thinking is this, keeper in the prem game gets sent off/ injured. If there's no U21 game then 2nd choice keeper will be match fit and ready to play, agreed not necessarily at prem level but better than having sat on his arse for 3 months with only a cup game here or there. If there is a clash then have 3rd choice on bench for remainder of prem game and bring in 2nd choice for the rest of the time the No1 is out.

No point risking having your no 1 getting injured and your no 3 goalie, who is usually number 3 for a reason losing you points. Likewise if your 2 goalie is playing competitively week in week out then he is far more likely to get injured. Think it's as it is for the right reasons to be fair.

What is worrying is that I feel a wave of deja vue coming across from the club, the manager now says he is happy with the squad size and no incomings are needed except maybe a keeper, isn't that Moysie all over until 10pm on deadline day!
what is really concerning is that a team and club that have been built on the stability of a great team spirit and work ethic seems to be faultering so badly, that even given an upturn in performance in the last three games, so many key players seem to be lacking so much self confidence and belief.
I think we all know that an addition or two can be a real catalyst in turning a teams fortunes over this window, and even loans can help given the difficulty in securing quality signings in such a short time.
Second season was always going to be more difficult for RM, but his true worth must now show in these last few months!

{Ed025's Note - good post that wakka..

And that confidence and belief is surely down to Roberto and his Staff. As someone else said earlier, I to believe Roberto picks his 11 players and then shoe horns them into the side at the expense of balance. Last season we had both fullbacks attacking down the flanks and the Attacking midfielders immediately dropping in behind them. This season because of good players being played out of position we do not have that. That is nothing to do with the players but purely down to the obstinacy of one man.

Very interesting reading on the McGeady debates going on. It seems we do have an educated bunch on here. I have picked up the following comments from other posts below: What does McGeady bring to the team? He is a confidence player, who at the moment is low on confidence. He gives the ball away too cheaply. He doesn't track back. He doesn't put may crosses in or score goals. And this is the most important one for me. he is keeping better players out of the team. I am not sure I agree with the tracking back bit. I think he tracks back as much as any other winger.it is the going forward that I have been disappointed in.

The tiki taka passing at the back is not doing us any good other than meaning we have more possession. Possession doesn't win games especially if you are very partial to defensive errors. Look at the stats for chances created and shots on goal with less possession.

{Ed025's Note - totally agree joe..

Agreed it no longer always works even for the best teams that use it!

Agree0 Disagree0

If he played Barkley & Besic together like he did v QPR in the defensive roll, i'm pretty sure the team would perform a lot better. When they got the ball they got rid quickly and created more chances.Bob is trying to get us to play like Barca. I'm sorry but we are not good enough.Get the ball out wide and cross it in!!
