Yeh last year when he had a good game lol

16 Aug 2015 22:25:54
If Stones goes its because he will have said he wants to go. Nothing to do with the board just the player.

If he does go we will get plenty of money but there is no point in keeping him IF this is what he wants.

I'm pretty sure most people on here are older than 6 months old and have seen players leave the club before. Guess what we are still here and we didn't blow up into a puff of smoke.

It's time to start embracing this season people. Football is about putting the ball in the back of the net and for us supporters to jump, dance, sing and worship the 11 men on the pitch.

Forget all the BS that's going on and start concentrating on the important part of football - results. We just had one and won 3 nil. Yayyyy!

Stones is a good guy. He doesn't want to go but all the attraction is affecting him as it would anybody else. Yet, has this affected his performances? NO. It is not up to him. He is prepared to stay and will only go if the Board decide the bid is too good to refuse. Personally, unless a really stupid bid comes in, he will be here for the rest of the season

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Aug 2015 03:30:46
I have to disagree with your first point unfortunately mate. Imo, if Stones leaves it will be solely because the board wantes him to so they can have their share if the money and give less then half it back. The sort of people running this club care very little about the club itself and are only interested in profits. This is why imo Stones leaving will destroy the board with a lot of people as they will no doubt try and force him out once a suitable bid comes in.

Agree2 Disagree3

17 Aug 2015 08:26:22
You're just speculating and being pessimistic. This has never happened before with a player so why would it happen now?

Fellani, Rodwell, Arteta, Rooney, Lescott all chose to leave and asked to. Why would this be any different? This board have never sold a player because of the money offered when it comes to our top players.

Don't just say things because you dislike the board. Back it up. Prove your point.

Agree6 Disagree0

17 Aug 2015 10:08:54
There is no evidence to prove that the board has sold players or tried to force them out to make a profit. The last chairman to do such a thing was run out of town for selling Duncan behind the scenes. Smith was the last to find out and the rest is history

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Aug 2015 16:41:29
It is nothing to do with being negative, you make fair points BlueJohnUns, it doesn't change my opinion on the board. Who agrees the transfers by the way? If someone bids for our player, does Martinez turn it down or the board?.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Aug 2015 17:58:39
Like every other club its a multitude of people and circumstances.

I've never heard a manager or player moan about the way our club handles its transfer activity. It took those players I've mentioned to request to leave the club. That is pretty much that.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Aug 2015 20:22:19
After all the reasurances, that John Stones will not be sold. Will all the newfound Kenwright supporters, concede that we have been lied to, (again) if he is?

Believable3 Unbelievable3

16 Aug 2015 22:01:56
Every player has his price. I wouldn't want him to go, but if his head had been turned I would fatherless him go and reinvest. We are not rich enough to put a player in the reserves to teach a lesson. Lescott, fellaini and Rooney were all business decisions and I can live with that, unfortunately.

16 Aug 2015 22:02:06

JCW you just don't understand do you

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Aug 2015 03:32:51
If Stones goes it will be due to the board, Kenwright, Earl and Elstone all included. I don't really like Kenwright but the blame should be put on all of them.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Aug 2015 07:22:46
Let's get this straight people, we have told Chelsea enough times he is not for sale. The only way he will be sold, begrudgingly, is if the lad puts in a transfer request. If that happens then there is no point keeping him is there? The board will be entirely blameless if he does that. This is nowhere near the PJ era when he sold Duncan behind everyone's back, it will be down to Stones himself.
Many other boards have acted the same as us in similar situations but have relented because the player wanted to move. Spurs with Bale, United with CR, Arsenal with RVP and that lot over the park with Sterling. They didn't want to sell their players but had their hands tied.
So the answer to your question JCW is no. Nobody at the club wants to see him leave but the onus is on the lad himself

Cheers BlueJ, I'm sick of us going round in circles. We have become the most depressed fans on any of these sites because of things that might happen! I'd rather people focus on the great win Saturday, the fact that RM changed his tactics to be more attacking (probably revert to type next game!) and how stupid those who paid a pilot to fly their banner seem right now. Anything else is purely speculation

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Aug 2015 20:17:56
So John stones is now worth 50 million after that performance from Chelsea. What's the biting point?
For me it would have to be 40 mill plus vas done this week so we have time to spend the money rationally. Keep in mind it would mean a minimum of two centre backs but I'm sure 40+ would potentially improve on the 3 targets we are apparently going to get.
Or do we just say forget it after Saturday and say being competitive this season when he still has 5 years on his contract and could potentially be a full blown star by the end of the season make it worth holding out? Where do we think we need to be to keep him long term? Is it just champions league or is it winning things?
I know he is not for sale the club has said so but at what point does it become stupid not selling?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

17 Aug 2015 03:38:33
It never becomes stupid not selling him. He's a first choice Centre Back, future captain, no one out there can replace his qualities, Van Dijk, Zapata and Evans combined couldn't replace Stones. Selling Stones now would leave us having to buy 2 Centre Backs, the one to replace him who will not be as good and the one as cover. The '40m' will probably be halved for Martinez to spend but for scenarios sake let's say they give him it all to spend. We could get a good Centre back and decent cover (again, the replacement not being as good so already our defence is weakened), a good number 10 and a 3rd choice striker. The issue is, we could probably get the cover Centre Back, Number 10 and 3rd choice striker right now. So, for me, selling Stones would only weaken us regardless of who signs. We could keep Stones and improve, much better imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Aug 2015 06:44:46
I agree with swan. Yes every player has a price but that's only when they want to leave. Forget selling him it doesn't make any sense business wise as 'apparently' we don't need to sell as the club is in a good position financially. Yes we sold lescott Rooney felliani as avro puts it in above post, but wrongly saying it was good business, no they all wanted to leave so we got tje best price at the time. Just don't get why John Terry being subbed has anything to do with us, he plays for Chelsea, that's there problem. They have been told Stones is not for sale so if they are after a CB then they will look elsewhere if what we are told is true.

Mourhino taking terry off seems like a sign that they'll really go for stonesey. I will be holding my breath, just hope RM sticks to his guns, and the board of course

Believable0 Unbelievable0

16 Aug 2015 19:37:20
The club has stated he is not for sale so to sell him now would make a mockery of the whole club and fans. Don't think it will happen this season at least.

Agree1 Disagree2

16 Aug 2015 19:54:35
Good thing is there are 2 weeks left till window slams shut, substitutes his best defender at halftime looses 3-0 I think stones value goes up a bit now let's see how desperate Mourinho can get

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Aug 2015 20:13:12
I would think that everyone from Barcelona, Real Madrid, Man City and Utd would be enquiring about him now. He is certainly as rare as hens teeth. I said he reminded me of a more physical Bobby Moore. Last time we had a reader of tackles like him with the same power of recovery was The Rat. If he goes this window we will certainly get top dollar. but money means nothing in the bank.it is pure talent that we need. Imagine what he could be like when he is 26 to 30.

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Aug 2015 20:15:20
I truly enjoyed the 3-nil thrashing of Chelsea. however, it makes Jose Moron-ho likely desperate. He will bid for Stones, so if we must we can earn a Kings ransom if possible. Silly money (if RM gets to spend it) could help the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Aug 2015 22:13:14
Jose is not daft it would not suprise me that he took Terry off today just to ruffle feathers at our club. He has always been good at mind games however we hold all the cards with regards to Stones and after his performance on Sat could ask 50 million if we like let's just see his smug face then. COYB.

Funnily enough I find myself agreeing with Degsy again, Stones will only get better, he is easily one of the best in the league right now, imagine him in 4 years time?. Also, as he gets better his value will only increase so cashing in now would be silly.

We've been hearing this for ages now mate, the papers will not be satisfied until he goes. Considering the 'done deals' (according to the Fail and the Reflection) of Mirallas, McCarthy , Coleman, Baines, Barkley and Lukaku and the fact they are all still here. Also considering the Fail did an article late July saying Stones was closing in on Chelsea move and could be gone in 48 hours (still waiting) and that also failed. I'm pretty confident, considering the move makes no sense to Stones or us right now, I see it as unlikely.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Aug 2015 17:23:14
One thing from yesterday that has been largely overlooked is Martinez saying we need 2 more players. He's been saying a no10 a centre half and a striker. When Holgate signed he said he wasn't reagdy for the first team so i'm not counting him. What worries me is if he's changing what he's saying in one interview to the next, have we even approached anyone yet? He told us he knows who he wants but how far down the line can we be with negotiations if he doesn't even know how many he needs? Great result yesterday Rom back to his best coyb.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

16 Aug 2015 19:44:05
He may have revised his ideas after Kone seems to have hit a bit of form, so maybe no striker, just a 10 and CB?

16 Aug 2015 20:19:03
I hope not stevie. Kone's still got a long way to go and if lukaku gets injured were still really short up front.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Aug 2015 20:20:40
Said he needs 2 more does that mean we already have one done and I don't mean young Holgate maybe one already under the radar like del boy and rom 2 years ago you never know

16 Aug 2015 16:12:12
Great performance yesterday. I was negative last week about the transfer activity over summer, which I maintain. But surely someone at the club can see we are not far away from having a really good squad. Get 3 more players in cb cf and a winger and let's have a real go. We can either look at yesterdays game and say we have enough already to be ok or we can look at it and say with a few more players we can be class!

The protesters have been around for years from the days of Catterick over Alex Young being dropped, to the more recent times of media based protests. These are the same protesters that, and it gets passed on through the families, that said keep Everton at Goodison ahead of Kings Dock, it became keep Everton in the City as opposed to Kirkby, n now its revamp Goodison time again. Its the same ones that forced the badge issue, how childish was that, kept talking about traditions, when there wasnt one, the badge has changed over the years of our existance, even Ruperts tower hasn't always been there and indeed our arguably greatest footballing team of all never had a badge 69-70. So one thing we must always remember as fans, "those who don't understand, don't matter "!

Believable3 Unbelievable1

16 Aug 2015 14:55:41
Good post Howie! And I definitely agree about the badge issue, Ridiculous!!

I'm tired of all the negativity, pessimism and finger-pointing! Some people just aren't happy unless they are having a moan. You see certain names on here after a defeat or supposed missed transfer throwing insults about and tearing the board, the manager, players etc. apart. then when we win or are doing well those same names disappear only to magically reappear after our next defeat. It's pathetic!

Agree3 Disagree2

16 Aug 2015 17:40:34
Everton did not miss out on Kings Dock because of protests to stay at Goodison, they missed out due to no finance being in place. 'Ringfenced' money suddenly disappeared and we missed out on having a waterfront ground on an iconic skyline, i'm sure very few protested against that.

I Havnt got a clue about who owns what but why don't the board sell off a small amount of the club to the fans.

We are the people's club after all and If I had a large amount of expendable income I would love to put money into my club.

I think Barca did something similar and it worked for them.

Sell off 20% and we could start renovating goodison.

Did anyone watch Toffee TVs video on Goodison being Rejuvenated. They made a point about the panels on the free school being put on goodison and I think this would be a excellent idea

Thoughts?

Words absoloutley fail me. Ex Everton player Alan (never heared of him) Tonge says Ross Barkley is far too good for Everton and should sign for Manutd immediatley! The press didn't want to know him last season when he was struggling he he two decent games and they are trying to sell him again! i'm getting sick to the back teeth of the media witch hunt in this country when it comes to our players. This no mark has obviously been asked the question about Barkley and his answer is put to print straight away. what's the odds the nationals will have him heavily linked to big money moves before the weeks out?

I honestly don't know what the lads who organised the banner over St Mary's were hoping to achieve but I except their right to protest against what they perceive is wrong at their club, how else are we meant to show our discontent?
All I hope is that as supporters we don't get too involved in protesting and stop doing what we are meant to do and support the team.
Anyone who has read any of the few posts I write will know I never wanted Martinez and if am honest I will probably never change that view
But every player who gets picked and pulls on a shirt deserves our support after all it's not his fault he got picked
We need 3 maybe 4 players to add to the squad for the season but if we don't get them we still have a squad that's worth getting behind.
Let's not become an embarrassing media circus
If you have followed Everton for as long as I have then you would know it's nowhere near as bad as the press would like you to think it is
So let's keep our dissatisfaction to Pages like these and leave match day to support the team

Believable4 Unbelievable0

16 Aug 2015 10:37:42
As a few posters have said already, these protesters are showing a lack of class. Talking of the board not backing the club is inaccurate, stoke have just broken their transfer fee at 12 mil, we are at 28mil! The board has backed the manager and it has before. We may not agree with the manager's tactics, but that is a separate matter. I do agree that the board appear to be dragging their feet over the ground, but I know that money is tight and I don't want the ground to be at the expense of team and premier survival. I like to think that bk has the best interests of the club at heart, more so than the glazers, venkys etc. When city win 3-0 away it is expected, but because of our resources toffees I will be buzzing all week. To quote Ron burgundy, Everton stay classy.
