So it's started already first game of the season away to prem new boys and plenty expecting us to cruiz this game wake up this is the premiership 38 hard games de ja vue from last year Norwich away 2-2 remember looked off the pace we will be ok although I'm gutted barkley is going to be out for long time we will get better with games under are belt watched arsenal as well they looked of the pace and were fortunate to get 3 points against a side that have had a nightmare 48 hours, and of course Manchester United all I have been hearing is they will be fighting for title don't make me laugh they have some good players but they will be in for a fight to make top 4 never mind winning league the person responsible for there down full is none other than mr ferguson himself if you look at the players they bought over last 4 or 5 years not many have been good buys he wanted to go out on a high regardless of how they would be set up for moyes sorry moyes you inherited a side on the decline and should of seen it coming the last season utd won the league was as poor a title winning side as I've seen but people only saw what ferguson achieved rather than the future he left for the new man

dont know why everyones being so doom and gloom, yes we should have had the game won, but away to a newly promoted side are the hardest games to have on the opening day, doesn't mean our season is over, look at arsenal last year on there opening fixtures, at least we got off the mark with a point, come on boys onwards and upwards next week agaisnt arsenal, didn't look anything special today and all our boys should be fitter than today!

After today's showing, it is painfully obvious we need a quality replacement for ross. I know this is probably unrealistic, but I would love to try to sign Isco on loan. It looks like his opportunities will be limited because of the singing of James Rodrigues. He is the type of player we need to reach the champions league. Any thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So far from realistic it's unreal

I'm sure the management team are aware of what is needed, obviously we need cover for Ross and another striker, but maybe another defender long term can't understand how jags looks so devoid of confidence!

time catches up with everyone, unfortunately, it seems to be catching up with jags, wish it was not so, but it was there for all to see at the w/cup

Are deffence can't defend set peaces to save ther life's sort it bobby are deffence look wobbly and tha was only Leicester big boys will bully us + do not like stones ryt back :( looked lost

Believable0 Unbelievable0

There is a pattern emerging when John Stone is played right back he pushes too high and we are left exposed. That's how Liverpool destroyed us at analfield last season and again today He looks comfortable in the middle On todays showing maybe it's time he was given a run in that position

Agree0 Disagree0

He needed to play right back threw need rather than choice

I`m trying not to be too negative but finding it very difficult.

Howard 6
Baines 6
Distin 7
Jagielka 5
Stones 6
Barry 5
McCarthy 5
Pienaar 5, (Mirallas 4)
McGeady 6
Naismith 5
Lukaku 4

We looked very tired and devoid of any real ideas in the final 3rd.
Howard Did what was needed, Don`t fault him for goals
Baines did well in 1st half but was very restricted 2nd half. WHY?
Distin Steady Eddy.
Jagielka Continued where he left off with England in the World Cup Exposed time after time.
Stones Did alright, his speed helps him out when he gets caught out.
Barry Was wasteful with the ball looked slow and cumbersome most uncharacteristic.
McCarthy Not the powerhouse in midfield he was last season looked tired.
Pienaar Squad player some neat touches and movement in 1st half tired and made way for Mirallas- okay looked busy without any real penetration or end product.
McGeady took the goal well but FFS stop cutting inside and then passing the ball back, loads of trickery and speed but is so frustrating.
Naismith worked hard took his goal well as he normally does but nothing extraordinary.
Lukaku 1st touch shocking looked well below par ring rusty hold up play poor but on the plus side he can surely only get better.
We were away to a club newly promoted with a point to prove and surely pumped up on their return to the Bigtime, I`m not overly disappointed by the result, 1 point better than a defeat, it`s the way we were unable to shut the game out, kick on at 2-1 and kill the game off. Watching Robbie deliberating and being too slow to make changes, seeing our £28,000,000 (that`s a lot of zeros) record breaking signing toil and labour fruitlessly for 90 mins.
Anyway, rant over onwards and upwards it`s only the Gooners next week, how bad can it get?

Well that was disappointing. Not the point, this was always a potential banana skin so a point is a reasonable result but the performance was awful. We looked totally unfit. Only Mcgeady was able to run at the end and he had to because he kept giving the ball away. We couldn't defend anything in the air and following on from the corner debacle of last year this could see us lose a lot of points this season. Barry should have been sent off too which could have made things even worse. There's a lot of work to do before our next match or we'll get absolutely crushed. RM needs to get it sorted ASAP

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah but there centre back should have walked for the deliberate handball stopping Lukaku having a clear one on one with the keeper

Agree0 Disagree0

Lukaku was knackered after the warm up. no way would he have got to the goal from the half way line. Didn think it was a red at the time or now I seen it again. Barry should have walked.

Concerned with how we looked defensively. Awful at set pieces and just looked a bit shaky all game. I really don't like stones playing right back, it just doesn't work and we should know that from the anfield debacle.
Thought some of our play was nice. Annoyed at how once it went to 2-2 we found another gear when prior we were trying to shut the game out with niggling fouls and slow play. One goal lead is never enough in this league to do that.
Not an awful start but with our fixture line up it could well be a bad 2 points missed

we all know about the undoubted talent of ross barkley and the posts here show clearly the concern about the effect his injury might have on the start to the season for us. this got me wondering-and there is no hidden agenda here- what people thought about the idea of building a team around barkley and his (current) great ability and immense potential for the future; foolish not to do it or too risky a strategy?

Surely to get march fit you have to play matches? Put the belgians on and then when they tire replace them! Hopefully by that time we're 3-0 up!

Slept on this one and just cannot fathom out how a player damages a knee just 24 hours before the season starts?
Surely, Friday's training would have been 'light' as it's surely too late to start thrash muscles to build up fitness?
Cannot see RM sanctioning a full blown 7 v 7 game with tackling included?
Finch Farm's pitch is like a bowling green so he hasn't gone down into a rabbit hole!
Some questions need answering here as young knees don't go just by sprinting.

Some on here have already posted that many players did not seem fit in pre season games, let's hope for something positive this afternoon.

{Ed025's Note - come on mushy...we all know these things happen mate, its disappointing yes, but not the end of the world..

Just some explanation ed

{Ed025's Note - i just want us to enjoy it mushy, i dont do doom and gloom mate..so we have lost ross for a bit, its not the end of the world, in fact sometimes the lad can be a liability, besic may come in and steal the show, ossie might play and score a whopper? who knows...im just saying forget all the negative theories, lets just wait and see how we perform and we can have the inquests then..

Despite Barkley being resigned to the training, I remain confident in my third season as a Blues fan.

this team is better off than this time a year ago. It is deeper, experienced in playing with each other and in RM's system. I think midfield is our deepest area and we can take the hit.

As Barkley is under 21 and has been at Everton for years he doesn't have to be registered in the 25-man squad for either the Premier League or the Europa League - which means he won't be filling a registered squad place while he's out injured and he'll remain eligible to play when he's fit again.
If it was one of our over-21 players who was out injured, there'd have to be a difficult decision about whether to name him in the squad (hoping he'd return to fitness soon) or omit him and bring in a replacement (at least until squad re-registration at the end of the January transfer window).
For example, I'd expect Oviedo - who might not return until September/October - still to be named in the registered squad.
If a player was definitely out injured long term (say the entire season), there'd surely be no point in naming him in the registered squad and wasting that place. Of course, the squad has to registered at the end of each transfer window - and there cannot be any squad changes (apart from emergency goalkeepers) in between the transfer windows, which makes it a tough choice for the manager when considering registration of injured players. Do you use a valuable squad place just in case the injured player recovers or do you bring in a replacement (if only a temporary one until the next registration deadline)?
