Use our rumours form to send us everton transfer rumours.

I know he isn't an out and out natural attacking midfielder but seeing his willingness to run and undoubted slick skilled feet do you think Mo Besic could throw a shift in behind Rom? Or do you think Naisy or Osman will just get played for safety?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - tough call that jay..

I think we'll go safe myself. if it was a midfield 3 of besic barry & mccarthy I think mccarthy would be the advanced one. Great engine good passer excellent brain an is powerful an quick running with the ball.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Aug 2014 00:06:57
Id either play mccarthy behind lukaku (so he can make those runs in behind we saw against southampton and hull), naismith behind lukaku or lukaku on the right wing with naismith operating as a false 9, allowing naisy, kev and rom to interchange on the counter (worked both times against arsenal and man u), he will probably do none of them and suprise us all, el tactico

Agree0 Disagree0

He's an ex centre back so defensive mid should be as high up as he gets, got to be Naismith at the moment, if I see osman il be gutted, no offence to him

Agree0 Disagree0

He won't be playing Lukaku from the start. I think we will struggle to score today sadly, however it might just spur the club on to bring in another attacking option that we obviously need

Agree0 Disagree0

If Barclay is injured and out for 8 weeks potentially, who would blues like to see come in as a replacement loan/buy? Maybe Kagawa? Dempsey? Just to get the ball rolling as it were.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wouldn't mind seeing us go for Loic Remy. He can play in Barkley's position plus he can be used on the wings or up front. He'd give us another option if Lukaku gets injured/loses form too as he's proven to be a fairly prolific striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Aug 2014 22:26:22
Which players would you NOT want to lose through injury and in which order.

For me:
Lukaku
Howard
----------
Barkley
Barry
McCarthy
Mirrallas
----------
Jags
Besic
Coleman
Baines
----------
Pienaar
Naismith
Mcgeady
Distin
Some of these rankings not necessarily just on ability but on whether we have cover for them

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Losing Howard would be a nightmare, unless Joel learns to catch! I'd hate to see McCarthy out of action as his presence is immense. Also any injury to a defender that leaves only Alcaraz on the team sheet. That would be very bad.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Aug 2014 23:58:54
I'd move Distin further up the table, alongside Coleman, as I think Distin has been quite solid at the back and still has decent pace. I'd possibly also swap Mirrallas and Besic.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree that losing Howard would be the worst loss, as Robles hasn't inspired confidence and our other keepers are too inexperienced. I'm sure we'd concede more goals without Howard.
Shortly behind Howard I would say that losing Lukaku would be the next worst thing, as our other forwards - who are hard-working (Naismith) or potentially promising (Long) - don't give us what Lukaku does at the moment imho. I'm sure we'd score fewer goals without Lukaku.
I'm fairly comfortable that the squad can cover the other positions in the team - such that we could rest/rotate the players this season - but it's also pretty clear to me that we have preferred first choices for each position.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Aug 2014 05:26:48
I forgot osman - probably somewhere 3rd or 4th level - sorry Ossie!

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Aug 2014 05:29:04
This shows to me though that we still have a squad small on quality players - reckon we still need two or three quality additions to the team if we going to progress and be a threat

Agree0 Disagree0

Based on cover and ability if everyone was fit at the start of the day
Howard
Lukaku
-----------
Mirallas
Coleman
Barkley
Mcarthy
-----------
Everyone else

In a way we are lucky this didn't happen in a match the injury would off been a lot worse plus we have cover its not the end off the world coyb :)

As Victor Meldrew would put it,
Would you bloody well believe it?
We lose Barkley on the last training session before the bloody season starts!

{Ed025's Note - crap happens mate..

15 Aug 2014 21:08:33
I see luis Enrique, the new barca boss has come out and said that everton tried to kill Deulofeus flair and vision? A weird one that as it does not sound like what I have heard from barca before about us being a good place to send youngsters and Martinez being a top class coach. Wonder if we will see another barca youngster back soon with that being said.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - it was a false TWITter account clarkey, put on by a red supporter...looks like the village is missing an idiot mate..

15 Aug 2014 23:36:46
Apparently the supposed quotes from Barcelona were reported by the Daily Mail (who've since removed it from their website) and then it spread through social and other media. This just goes to show that stories aren't being checked for accuracy - they're just being regurgitated by the media.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - typical of the press in this country sid..

16 Aug 2014 06:56:11
You must know the Daily Mail's motto?. "Never let the facts get in the way of a good story".

They told so many lies about my former employers it was a joke and of course, their witless readers just suck it all up!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - the daily fail are noted for it mate..

Hi Ed
If the news about Ross is true do you think we'll look to get another attacking midfielder in. I know there was a lot of discussion that we needed one anyway, but given this news do you think it will force Robertos hand or force a change in set up and tactics?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - we will need at least a quality loan to fill in AB..

15 Aug 2014 20:54:08
Its hard to see any silver lining in this cloud ( Barclay injury) but it could force a move for an attacking mid we need cover there as well as a strker. thgfest

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - people are guessing as to the extent of his injury, until the scan we wont really know..

From what I've heard, he's out for 6 to 8 weeks Ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - just a guess NSNO, he has not had a scan yet mate..

15 Aug 2014 20:13:54
Great just great on the eve of our first match one of our best players gets injured, I hope it's not like last year we got bombarded with injuries and a lot of our big players were out at the same time really hamstrung us it did especially at Anfield God I hope there is no repeat this season.

Barkley is out for up to 6 weeks. For those of us worried about squad depth in the attacking third were about to get some answers. It will be intresting to see the line up tomorrow. I wonder are we about to see besic put in next to barry and mccarthy? Bring it on.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i expect so sheeds..

Is Coleman fit for tomorrow? If not it will be interesting indeed to see what the squad will be, if Rom and Super Kev are not fit either. Can't wait to see Besic rip the opposition apart if he's as good as the promise he's shown.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - good luck to leeds as well degsy, big club who im sure will be back..

Does anyone know what's happened to Jake Adelson, the young Australian prospect who joined our academy a couple of years ago? He's still listed as a player on the official website, but I haven't seen his name in our teams for any of the U-21 or U-18 pre-season matches. I haven't seen any reports of him being released.

Just a thought but if we're competing with Chelsea for a champs league place, how come we are happy to take a player who can't get into their team?

Obviously they don't see us as a threat.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Atsu is hardly going to displace Hazard from their team.

I've got to say I think Bill K deserves a big well done for the way he has again supported the manager in funding the players he wanted, even smashing our transfer record, without sinking the club in a mountain of debt.
He gets a lot of knocks on this site but yet again the club has maintained a pretty even keel without a major investor (only god knows why we havn't found one yet) and is probably a shining light of an example to clubs outside the top 6 of how you can prosper.
Who knows if we have another good season it could eventually be our turn!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i would love to think so wakka, bill takes a lot of stick from certain quarters, but for me if more clubs were ran like ours, then football would be in a lot better place mate..

If we did get a buyer, i'd like Bill to be kept as chairman, abit like Chelsea with Roman as owner and Buck as chairman. IMO we have the best chairman in the league without a shadow of doubt.

Agree0 Disagree0

Youve said it, he has spent all that money without getting us into debt, how? because in reality we haven't spent much, as its all to do with money from sales coming into the club. Moyes was always in profit as to sales in and out, no dofferent with Martinez, though he might be a little down on the + and - margins. We have the same squad as last year except Besic and Atsu on loan. So to be fair, he hasn't had to spend much, and from what I gather with the profits on sales since 2003 and the new TV monet we've still plenty left to spend. Hopefully we'll see that in the next 2 weeks, as the squad is still well short on numbers, more importantly quality in depth. So good luck BK and RM in the next 2 weeks, should be interesting as it will define our season, when you think of injuries suspensions African Nations and all the competitions involved.

Agree0 Disagree0

Howie the big difference is that Lukaku, Barry and Besic are now permanent signings at a cost of £34m, perhaps next year Atsu will be the same and someone else can come in on loan?

Agree0 Disagree0

Youve not read my post properly, they haven't cost £34m, think about it.

Am I alone here by feeling a little uncomfortable by this giant mural (or whatever you call it) of Bobby which will be unveiled on the side of the main stand? As much as we all love/admire him I could think of three very successful Everton managers who could take that pride of place on the side of the stand before Bobby. Personally I would rather see the new club crest like the past ones occupying that space.

I agree, also, if we were a one season wonder, it will look silly come may, now on this site i'm normally mr.sunshine positive but I have this fear in my head that we may begin to stumble

{Ed025's Note - mr sunshine positive??..i think i will have to delete this post, as it is obviously someone pretending to be swan..

That can't be Swan. It must be an Ugly Duckling.

I think it was simply just because we were replacing the badge and decided to honour Martinez. Moyes is still honoured with the 'people's club'. We could look like fools if things go wrong this season, but I don't think we've dropped everything to lavish him with adoration, we simply took advantage of the free space to offer our support.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi think you're missing the point here. The club have said that the picture will be changed throughout the season. are we proud of Roberto has done, he'll yah, given us hope, dignity and a future!

Agree0 Disagree0

How will the picture be changed throughout the season? Do they just mean that by the end it will have glasses, a moustache, fangs and devil horns in sharpie? (Although if I saw anyone deface a picture of Martinez I think I would resort to murder and/or harsh language.) Or will it start to loom out charismatically in 3D to inspire passers by?

I will be closing entry to the Fantasy League today at 2:30 pm UK time
A big thanks to all the 355 people who joined the league(As of now)
What I started as a small league for all liverpool fans and where I didn't expect more than 20-30 guys has now snowballed into a cross page competition
I'd like to thank all players for their enthusiasm and cooperation
I'd also like to thank the eds for allowing such notices here
Lastly but most importantly I would like to thank TJRed without whose ambition direction and perseverance this league would never have gotten so far

Good Luck to all and Hope you have a great time (losing to me:-D)

What do people expect to happen to john lundstram?, I know there has been talk about him for a while, I have been impressed with him for england under 19s and I remember numerous people coaching england levels below the senior side were comparing him to gerrard, but he struggled at yeovil and couldn't buy a start for leyton orient, he's 20 now, decision time at the end of the season surely (he will be 21 then), do we still think he will make it or has he just not progressed and will end up being sold or released?t

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - its hard to tell swan, but i agree that this is a make or break season for him, its hard for a player trying to shine at clubs like yeovil and blackpool as they dont have the quality around them, so it will be very difficult for him i believe mate..

On loan to Blackpool

Agree0 Disagree0

It just goes to show that it really is a massive step-up from youth or reserve football to league football - even The step-up to the lower leagues. You're playing against grown men who have the experience, toughness (mental and physical) and determination that makes them hardened professional footballers and the young player on loan has to adapt quickly. It takes more than youthful raw ability to make it imho.
If just one of our academy youngsters makes it to our first team on a regular basis every couple of seasons, then that's a result. The rest will, I'm afraid, prove not good enough, but many should have a reasonable career eventually - albeit at a lower league level.

We can register only 25 players aged 21 or over (that's born before 1st January 1993 for the coming 2014-2015 season) to be eligible for selection for Premier League matches. Of those 25, at least 8 must be "homegrown" - which means that no more than 17 can be "non-homegrown". In addition, any number of players classed as under 21 (that's born on or after 1st January 1993 for the coming 2014-2015 season) can be selected for Premier League matches.
We currently have 9 "homegrown" players over the age of 21: Hibbert, Baines, Jagielka, Duffy, McCarthy, Barry, Gibson, Osman and McAleny.
We currently have 13 "non-homegrown" players over the age of 21: Howard, Robles, Coleman, Oviedo, Distin, Alcaraz, Besic, McGeady, Mirallas, Pienaar, Atsu, Naismith and Kone.
That leaves 3 places in the registered Premier League full squad. Barkley, Stones and Lukaku are still classed as under 21 by the Premier League regulations, so don't take up places in the full squad.
The Europa League full 25 man squad works on a similar 17/8 split. However, for the registered Europa League squad, a player under 21 must have been with us for two years otherwise he must be included in the full 25 man squad in order to be available for Europa League matches. That means Lukaku and Stones would have to be in the full 25 man squad. Assuming all of those mentioned would be registered, that just leaves 1 place in the registered Europa league squad. Other under-21 players who've recently joined us (e.g. Galloway, Byrne - and hopefully Henen) would also have to be in the full Europa League squad in order to be eligible, as they haven't been with us for two years. All of our other under-21 players that have been with us for over two years (e.g Barkley, Garbutt, Browning, Hope, Long, etc.) would be eligible for Europa League selection without having to be in the full squad.
Also, the Europa League full squad's minimum of 8 "homegrown" players must itself contain a minimum of 4 "club-trained" (i.e. came through the ranks at Everton), which we currently have in Hibbert, Osman, Duffy and McAleny.

The bottom line is that if we register all of our current players, then we couldn't accommodate too many other players in our registered squads, so all this clamouring for extra players - permanent or loan - just isn't realistic imho. Maybe 1 extra player in the EL squad and 3 extra players in the PL squad is feasible, but we have to be careful about exceeding the permitted annual increase in the wage bill and about contravening FFP re expenditure (transfer fees and loan fees) versus income.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - good info sid..cheers..

15 Aug 2014 12:57:50
Good Info, Sid. I think 3 more players should be enough, though, to be honest. And chances are they won't be 'marquee', so the wage bill shouldn't be a problem.
